Yesterday I visited Tres Bien for the first time with my 97-year-old mother who is in a wheelchair. In addition to accommodating her, which is no small feat, they were exceptionally kind, patient, and they did a beautiful job with the manicures and pedicures we received. I mentioned to another patron how happy I was with the service. She replied that she goes out of her way to patronize the Tres Bien nail salon because they are such nice people and give such great service. I told her I had a patient in 45 mins and just wanted a quick mani. She did a hand massage and proper cuticle tx and color came out great. I have been to this nail salon quite a few times as I work right down the street. I'm always pretty impressed- good selection of colors, nice nail technicians, clean environment, and decently priced. The nail technicians don't really make conversation with me and instead talk to one another- which is fine by me but may bother others. My only issue is that I went to get a polish change recently and the lady doing my nails wasn't gentle at all. At certain points, I felt like I was getting a procedure rather than a relaxing polish change. Also, I don't love how my nails don't last super long when they do them. Definitely good spot for a quick mani/pedi. Not favorite nail salon out there, though. read more

I originally fell in love with another mani/pedi spot in Chicago, but have been going to Tres Bien more often strictly due to convenience. I've had Shawn (Sean/ Shaun?) the last two times I've been there for my pedicures and loved it. He was thorough, even though I was cutting it close to closing time for them, and addressed parts of my feet that had really been bothering me. He also gives great massages, which are my favorite part of a pedicure. The owner/ manager is very friendly and accommodating. I've gotten no-chips done and removed there, but do not know about their other services to give it 5 stars. Definitely worth a trip for a pedicure with Shawn! read more

Great spot for a pedicure. I got a no-chip and the color looks great but it's too early to tell if it will last. I love the look of this salon. The pedicure chairs are in another room in the back which is nice because you can relax with minimal noise. They've got a huge selection of magazines which I appreciate since I only ever get to read them when I'm at a salon. My nail tech, Sally, made sure everything was comfortable during the pedi and even put up with my over-the-top ticklish feet. They have great color options for the no-chip and a couple different brands as well. I was in an out in about an hour but never felt like they were rushing through the process. They take cards but you cannot add gratuity so bring cash. I will be back! read more

I've walked by this place countless times, as it happens to be a few block from my apartment, but never stopped in. A few days ago I walked by, and was considering going, but decided I obviously needed to consult yelp to see what others had said, and shockingly no one had yelped about it yet! At that point I was just excited about the possibility of being the first reviewer at a Chicago place, rather than my normal way of cheating and writing about random places in Michigan (or Florida). I made an appointment yesterday before leaving work, as they have a Wednesday special of $35 manicure and pedicure and I thought they might be busy, which they were. I got there, didn't have to wait because I had an appointment, and had a lovely manicure-pedicure experience. My feet are happy to have a nice shiny purpleish-pink color rocking on them, and even happier to be all pretty after a winter hidden in shoes. My tendency to fidget and chip off all my fingernail polish means that I usually just get clear, which I did, and all was good with my fingers too. Oh, and while you're waiting for your nails to dry, they give you a quick shoulder-neck massage, yeah! Everyone was friendly, and a lot of the other people there obviously were regulars as multiple people said goodbye to their manicurist/chair massage person by name. I'm generally a 'do my nails at home' girl, and just go to a nail salon more as a feel happy or have a nice time with friends situation, so I may not be there all the time, but I'll definitely go back again. There was the added bonus of being near my apartment, as I was able to toss on my shower flip-flops from my gym bag, and book it home in the chilly Chicago evening weather without my toes freezing :) read more

I am extremely loyal customer of Tres Bien Nails. They have a great selection of Essie and OPI colors. Their Wednesday mani/pedi special is pretty decent. I usually call 30-60 minutes in advance and I always get in with no wait. Some of the girls are better than others, but I have been going to this place for over a year and have never gotten a flat-out bad manicure. Very convenient to the Armitage brown line. read more

I was very happy with the manicure ($15) I got here. Good selection of colors (mostly OPI and some Essie, with the latest colors represented). The mani was streak-free (I got a very dark color, so it's easy to tell), and it didn't chip at all for at least 3 days. Went here on my lunch hour with a coworker to get a mani/pedi. It's convenient to where we work and have been wanting to try it. We got in right away and were seated in a nice quiet area away from other patrons. It was SUPER quiet, no music was playing so it was almost uncomfortable. The technicians didn't talk much either; which can be a good thing. I don't like a lot of talking but at least some relaxing music would be nice. The pedicure went really fast; almost too fast. I like a long massage with my pedicure. And I seemed to be getting different techniques than my friend. The same thing goes for the manicure--super fast, not long enough massage... Overall, not the worst experience I've had but definitely not the best. The one bright spot was the quick neck massage you get while your hands and feet are drying. I live down the street but have never tried this place so I figured, why not try? Based on other reviews I did the Wednesday $35 special. It was definitely a bargain experience. The mani/pedi itself was fine. The part that worried me more was the sanitation. You don't get your own kit. They do put them in the sanitizers; unfortunately the one I sat by wasn't on. Add the fly buzzing around my face and the cobweb in the window by me and that sums it up. I don't know - I don't mind paying a little more for a more calming experience. read more

I was just at Tresbien on Saturday to get gels and they did a HORRIBLE job. I paid $70 (including tip) and one of the tips broke in less than 12 hrs. I don't think they did them right either -- I am no nail expert, but you're supposed to end with a coat of the gel, not clear nail polish!! She put three layers of gel on and then kept scraping it off. A lot of the tips are exposed now AND they didn't cut my real nails down either which means it is easier for stuff to get under them. They look absolutely disgusting. I will never go there again. read more

I go to Tres Bien for mani/pedis a lot-- they are the best and most comfortable place in the Armitage neighborhood for the price. Great selection of polishes, efficient and since I hate spending an hour or more on my NAILS of all things, I love that it's no problem for you to get a "same time" mani/pedi. The polish doesn't always last as long as I wish it did, but this is Chicago, not NYC, and the standards for manis/pedis just don't compare. Now, the REAL gold at this place is the massage. At $1.33/minute for as long as you like, you can get a really excellent (if no frills) deep tissue massage. I discovered just how great the massage here is one day after I was walking home from an hour-long deep tissue massage at ANOTHER nearby, fairly upscale, and well respected neighborhood salon-- which I happen to like a lot in general. However, as I was walking home, I lamented that my masseuse at the other salon had not made the progress on the knots in my back that I'd hoped for. On an impulse, I ducked into Tres Bien and requested a 20 minute chair massage-- yes, this was immediately after I'd just had an hour long deep tissue massage down the street. Anny did my chair massage, and honestly, she did more for my back in 20 minutes than the previous hour session had come close to doing. She has some serious STRENGTH in those hands and she applies it well. I've been a regular of her's ever since and I've even gone in for the full hour plus table massages which are also great (if, as I said above, no frills in terms of the amenities and styling of the massage room). All I can say is my shoulder blades and my wallet thank me every time I go by-- with or without an appointment. Definitely ask for Anny or Moki. read more

I had two nails that needed to be repaired and I have to say the technician that I had (Ani) was fabulous. First time at this place this weekend with two of my friends. I called on Friday and made an appointment for 3 pedicures on Sunday morning. We arrived, picked out our colors and within minutes we were all rolling on pedicures. This was your basic pedicure, but the massage part was pretty good. The technicians were quick, efficient and didn't interrupt us girls gabbing about celebrities! :) We were all happy with the results. A bit pricey for just a pedicure ($35) as you find find places that will do a mani/pedi for that price and not just on Wednesdays. I must admit, I came in a bit late in the day- about a half an hour before close on Saturday, however, my manicurist, Grace, was very sweet, took her time and was very detailed in her work. The gentleman who sits up front is generally always friendly, but the manicurists not so much. Also, the mani/pedi was sub-par. Not the best, but fine when you're in need for a manicure. The only reason I took 1 star off was for the high price (my service came to $45 for a manicure/pedicure plus tip). Otherwise, my experience was pretty much perfect. Yuna did my service and I feel like she's my salon soulmate--she's very attentive to detail and a perfectionist, which is exactly what I need in my nail care. I hadn't gotten my nails done professionally in probably half a year, so I was in pretty rough shape. Also, I'd been keeping my nails rather short for the sake of ease, so I didn't give her that much to work with. Nevertheless, I got a fantastic service--very thorough pedicure (I'm so sorry for whatever I must have put her through with my gnarly feet) and my toes are adorable now. Lovely foot and calf massage. My hands were treated just as well, plus I got a little bit of free nail art (just small flowers, but it's pretty cute). I'm not even a nail art person, but she managed to make it look classy. She was good-natured, listened to exactly what I was looking for, and did impeccable work. The place is clean, has a great ambience, and all the staff seem kind and engaged with their customers. Everyone was attentive and worked well together, and I just liked the whole vibe. Good nail salons are hard to find (I live in DC and was only in town for a visit--I haven't yet found a salon in DC that I like as much as this one!) and I would be happy to come back here the next time I'm in town, though I might have to try to take advantage of a discount because it does feel a little steep. I came in to get my no chip fixed because a week later it was almost all off and my manicures usually last 3 weeks. They fixed with same color for 10 dollars.... 2 peeled completely off 14 hours later.... I came in and The owner insisted on giving me the same polish that was obviously faulty TWICE OR I could pay 20 dollars for a new color/brand.
