I usually don't take the time to write reviews but needed to after my experience today. I went in for no chip manicure and regular pedicure. The pedicure took less than 20 mins. I didn't think this was possible. She didn't file my nails, she didn't massage or exfoliate for more than 15 seconds per leg. Next came manicure and it was a complete disaster. Because they were rushing to either leave or have another appointment, my no chip was a mess. She applied 3 layers of the polish and it was bubbled and not right. I told her to stop but 2 other women came by and kept suggesting other colors. They added a 4th layer of a different polish and I told him to stop and remove it and be done. I was as kind as possible but I became enraged when I was charged for removing the no chip and for having a basic manicure. they charged me $50 for a pedicure and a non finished no chip manicure. Instead of apologizing and not charging me for the manicure, they insisted on charging. I am so upset and will absolutely never go back and will never refer anyone there. Customer service was complete trash and I am so upset that I have to go to a different salon to fix the damaged nails I have from having 2 soaks and 2 scapes in an hour. Super disappointed. After brunch with my girlfriends in Lincoln Park, I stumbled upon, with the help of brunch mimosas, Tres Bien Nails after my previous no chip red sparkle nails from a different nail salon started to chip and the sparkles would not come off my nails. This salon is incredibly clean and pulls the supplies out of the antiseptic bags, which was a relief. Stella did a great job scraping off the glitter from my nail beds and it did not hurt, unlike usual. She did a great job and was extremely professional. The pedicure and manicure were well done- they even give you a little shoulder massage at the end. I didn't have cash tip so paid the entire thing on card- which is nice that that's an option even if they prefer cash tips. I came here with my friend on a Friday night for mani pedi, made an apt by calling earlier in day and thought they did a great job. Overall very happy with the end result only complaint is they don't have dip powder which I prefer to use when traveling or have an event and can not have my nails chip before. My back is in really poor shape. Standing on my feet in flats with NO arch support 5 days a week is killing me. As I was hobbling home yesterday, I stumbled upon a shop with a large sign in the window that said 'Chair Massages. 10, 15, 20, 30 Minutes'. ::: angel bells ring::: I was immediately sucked in by some supernatural force. $15 for 15 minutes of pure bliss with a dash of torture. I knew those movements were helping me, but MAN. I think the whole shop could hear the echo of her pounding on my back. Alas, I sat up feeling lighter and pain free. And today.. I like that they're perfectionists, so they'll fix any little issue on my nails during the service without me having to ask. So after a rough couple of days I decided that I was going to skip a night class and go get my nails done instead. Having lived on Armitage for over a year I had always seen Tres but the view inside always put me off. It looked dark and somewhat dingy, but after coming to yelp and seeing the good reviews I thought maybe I shouldn't judge a book by it's cover... but apparently that saying should be reserved only for books as this place was exactly as it seemed. The wait wasn't long but when I did get to sit down for my pedi and put my feet into the tub I realized that it wasn't a jetted tub but rather two hoses, so automatically disappointed but whatever right maybe I just got the bad chair. Well then the technician started doing what she does and it was fine until she dropped the pumice scrubber on the floor and then while my feet were still in the tub put it in there to wash it off... EWW. However it wasn't till after that I realized that the same pumice scrubber wasn't just mine but something they use over and over again (and it didn't look like it was going to be santitized or anything after it got used on me)...DOUBLE EWW. I went on to get my manicure since I had already scheduled it and it seemed as if all the tools were clean so no issues there but the actual paint job is very shotty, the layers don't match up and on some nails it doesn't go to the edges. Now I know that it was a discounted night (Wednesday's mani/pedis are $35) but I doubt that the service and cleanliness is significantly better on other nights. Overall, I will never go back and won't suggest it to anyone. I should have made the trek over to Abere on Wells and for the same $35 gotten a clean and nicely done mani/pedi. read more

This has turned into my go to nail place in Lincoln Park. The $35 Wednesday special is a good deal for what you get (a legit mani/pedi plus a mini back rub!) If I'm coming on Wednesday, I always make an appointment, but otherwise it's usually fine to just walk in. They have tons of pedicure chairs in the back. It's a little cramped to get back there, but once you're seated it's all good. I also love that they label the nail colors on the FRONT of the bottle. No more having to lift up every bottle and check what the polish is named! read more

Every time I have gone to Tresbien Nails, I've had a relatively good experience - a decent manicure and a decent pedicure. However, this place is pretty expensive for the services it offers. Definitely hit this place up on Wednesdays for the $35 mani/pedi deal... you can't beat it! I know a lot of the reviews of this place have talked about the staff being less-than-friendly... this may be true, but I sort of prefer it this way - I don't need to make small talk while I'm trying to get my relax on. If you're looking for a friend, I would suggest finding a different nail place. When I saw the prices, I decided to add on an eyebrow waxing too. Seriously...$15 for a manicure and $15 for the waxing? Are you kidding me?? The manicure was fantastic....I was surprised with the apres-massage but most importantly, the manicure was phenomenal! It was well done and lasted a long time. This place is great, my new go to for nails. Got a mani pedi recently and they have a great selection of OPI nail polish colors, that's a plus. Their rates are very reasonable. And they have a separate area in back to get the pedicure, very relaxing. Then for the manicure I liked how they used a hot towel and really take their time to do a good job. Nice little back massage at the end. And then you're done! Seems pretty quick too. They have a wed special, $35 mani pedi. I stumbled upon Tresbien Nails one day after getting my eyebrows waxed at the Benefit Boutique just down the street. Reasonable prices and the ability to walk right in and get a manicure lured me in. Most recently I came by with a friend to get pedicures together. After a less-than-ideal experience at Mojo on Milwaukee, we decided to try this place instead. Overall we had a really pleasant experience. There was no wait at all, even though we were a little early for our appointment. The pedicures are done in a room with two chairs, so my friend and I were able to chit chat through the whole service without disturbing anyone or being forced to eavesdrop on other customer's conversations. The service itself was gentle, pleasant and efficient. I am both sensitive and ticklish, so I didn't mind that the foot-scrubbing, scraping and massage portions were relatively quick. My toenails turned out really beautiful. The shoulder massage I got while my toenails were drying was a really excellent finishing touch. I just received a $35 pedicure (not including tip) in 18 minutes in a back room with no natural light or ventilation. The woman who did the pedicure was nice enough but it was so rushed and not enjoyable. She slapped lotion on my leg just to wash it off with a hot towel. The back massage while my nails were drying lasted a good ten seconds before she asked me to pay. The place wasn't even that crowded to justify rushing me out of there. Overall it is an OK place to get your nails done. My no chip nails are already chipped on Sunday and I got them done on Wednesday... I paid $60 and the nails were very stripey. However my nails never look good for longer than a couple of days, not to mention feet and skin. They sort of do the feet care very quickly. I like Tresbien Nails. I actually got the best mani/pedi of my life here from someone named Kim? I can't remember if that was her name. Anyway, both my hands and feet remained chip-free for WEEKS. I have long, natural nails and pretty much whenever I get them done I go for a french manicure. I'm very picky about the white stripe on the nail.. she did it perfectly, just a little past the natural white of my nail. I'm also picky about the color on the nail, and she chose the perfect pink, not too red or sheer like some places. I loved it so much that I asked what the name was, and now I ask for Essie Mademoiselle wherever I go. :) I'm not giving them 5 stars because as someone else said, some manicurists are better than other. One time I got stuck with the most unpleasant woman... I also wish they would scrub my feet a bit more, as nasty and calloused as they are. But it's a good place to get your nails done in the LP area. They also give a brief shoulder massage which is niiiice. read more

I've gone here lots of times and have been generally pleased with the quality of the mani/pedis. Like any place, some manicurists are better than others. As I do not usually plan ahead, I just take whoever I get and I've never had a bad manicure here. They do get busy on the weekends so sometimes there is a wait. Nice back rub as your nails dry. I always use this salon as the perfect example of customer service. The owner really knows how to treat customers (although I've seen some negative reviews about the manicurists - which surprised me). Let me stress that they do *not* make you pay before the job is done. You can either pay before they paint your nails (so you don't ruin the manicure - this is why they do this), or you can pay afterward. It is completely up to the customer. The prices are not only good, but the service is above and beyond. While your hands or toes are drying, they give you a complimentary shoulder rub. When you are dry, they spray your nails, and if you've received a pedicure, they take off the separators and then help you with your shoes! The owner will also help you with your coat/purse to make sure that you don't ruin the polish. When I told him that I was due to give birth in a week and that I would probably not return for some time, he gave me a $55 gift card! Then, when I returned, he asked my son's name and my birth date. He then proceeded to add $45 more to the gift card! I have been going here ever since we moved into the neighborhood (2007) and will *only* go to this salon. Awful, just awful. I'd give zero stars If I could. I am a mani/pedi lover so I'd consider myself a seasoned guest. I am not fussy but I think my experience was disgusting. My pedicure was VERY RUSHED ( it lasted exactly 18 minutes?!?? WTF! ) & very painful. My tech was cuticle cutting crazy and made me bleed. The massage was essentially non existent, and my heels left in the exact same condition they arrived in due to the lack of buffering. She got nail polish on my sandals, and just left it there! I had to ask her to remove it! I went on a Wednesday and the special is mani/pedi combo for price of only pedicure...the pedicure was so awful, I declined the manicure bc I feared for my cuticles.
