Love this winery. Paulette is great at communicating to meet up to pick up my wine. Beverly was very patient on the phone while explaining all the specials. And Stacey was kind enough to open up the winery after hours so i could purchase more wine. This is a true working cattle ranch with such beautiful grounds. Bonus: they have a RV resort with hook ups!! No need to drive all the way back into town

On an unsuspecting little bend in the road between Los Olivos and Santa Maria lies Tres Hermanas, which at first glance looks more like a ranch than a winery. You won't find the manicured, well-watered, golf-course-like lawn of a Fess Parker here, but that's probably a good thing in dry-as-a-bone California in the summer. Save the water for the grapes! :-D Of course I loved the Syrah, but you knew that. The rest of the wines were pretty much standard Santa Ynez Valley fare, which is to say excellent. I had been to a few tastings by the time I rolled around to Tres Hermanas, so maaaybe my judgement was a little impaired, but nothing truly stood out - just another excellent wine tasting in the valley. And the server was so friendly - I'm embarrassed to say I forgot her name - was a great host. It didn't hurt that I was the only one there at about 4pm on a Wednesday. There are a few advantages to having midweek days off . . . :-D

South of Foxen vineyards and north of Zaca Mesa, Tres Hermanas is located near a bend in the road and is pretty hard to miss. The tasting room was spacious but had a lot of knick-knacky stuff for sale. They had a small rat terrier (similar to a Jack Russel) greeting people as they entered. The room had a very rustic/barn look. I was really expecting to find something interesting among the 6 wines we tasted, but alas, nothing really stood out; nothing really popped! So, we left without buying anything. This is probably not a place we'll revisit, but I don't regret giving it a try.

One of the most BEAUTIFUL grounds/Park etc!

This was our first visit to this rustic tasting room, and we had a nice experience. It was a Friday, right after opening, and we had the whole place to ourselves. The service was friendly, and my wife and I shared a traditional and custom flight. We thought that the wines were decent, some better suited to our palates than others, but well-made, nonetheless. We were fortunate to meet and speak with the owner who happened to be bringing in supplies and got a little more detail on the wines, than we did from our "winerista". He also mentioned that his niece opened a winery in Los Olivos (Story of Soil), which focused on wine styles a little out of our wheelhouse, but we thought we'd give that a try as well, and it turned out to be a fantastic recommendation. Costa De Oro is a nice place with wine varietals for everyone's tastes. I recommend you stop in and give them a try when you're passing through the area.

Wes' incredible amount of knowledge, and painstaking explanations (without being boring) of the entire growth, processing, and history of the winemaking and vinting process was nothing short of a wonderful journey into the heart of California winemaking. Like I told Wes when we set out on our tour, I'm no oenophile. I simply know what I like when I taste it. Wes was patient, inquisitive, and not high minded about wine and how and when it can be enjoyed. I really appreciated the thoughtfulness and thoroughness with which he constructed the tasting, and the accompanying culinary pairings. For those considering the tour, the Ranchos De Ontiveros grounds are a little further out there, but you'll be rewarded with the majesty of the Santa Maria valley and the bucolic surrounds which envelop the landscape. Between the setting and the awesome educational experience through Wes, you will undoubtedly feel privileged to have spend a wonderful couple hours in his and the vinyards company.

But how could I possibly pass up the chance to go to the holy site of some of the best Pinot there is, Bien Nacido vineyard. We split a tasting and I had crackers and cheese between small sips of wine so that I could handle it. The first pour was a lovely Chardonnay but we were there for Pinot Noir. The second pour was a Pinot from their sister vineyard about 6 miles west - Solomon. This wine was a nice surprise. A solid and a little light - this Pinot was excellent on its own and paired particularly well with the Manchego cheese they have for sale at the tasting room. The next pour is what we came for - Bien Nacido Estate Pinot '22. The grapes were from various blocks around the Bien Nacido vineyard. This wine was more substantial than the second pour and had some heft and earthiness to it. We loved it of course. Because of my chemo situation, my stomach preferred the lighter Pinot. My taste buds preferred the Bien Nacido Pinot. Both wines would be welcome in our wine collection and it was a privilege to drink their wine at their vineyard. Our server knew everything about everything Pinot in that area so we learned a lot too! This was one of my bucket list adventures!

We sat on the patio and the views are awesome. Wines were solid but the group as whole didn't find the price point to align with the taste. The tasting fee is also the highest in the area. Where things were really disappointing was the service. Our young lady who served us was not very informative or friendly. She enjoyed time on her phone which also meant there was times we were wondering if we would ever get our next pour. Worst part it wasn't very busy. Our group felt that maybe because we used the wine passport for the taste that it turned her off. Definitely can't recommend going to this place given cost and quality of service. I guess given how famous this place is we would get more of an experience.

We came with our pup, and Google Maps took us up Tepusquet from the 166. Don't do it. Just don't. I love a good adventure, but this didn't make any sense for being any faster or more efficient. It's windy, narrow, and steep. Poor June was car sick from the drive. While the drive had some great views, we were anxious to get to Cambria. Upon arrival we noticed that the tasting room was uphill from the vineyards, providing a great view. I will say that the tasting room was cut into a little crevice so the views from the deck are limited. However, there is a beautiful private tasting area on a hill (when you turn into the winery parking lot) that would be a fantastic spot for good views. The wine was nice, plenty of variety. And I appreciated the unique guidance of wines from the staff. By providing your preferred wines and notes they will create a personal tasting menu. We also opted for the charcuterie for 2 which was perfect. Plenty of bites to accompany our tasting. Because wine is so unique it's always difficult to review, so I prefer to focus on the experience as a whole, and Cambria nailed it. We would definitely return and hang out by their fireplace.
