We came here recently for a client lunch and I honestly couldn't decide what to order - everything sounded so good. We ended up starting with the hummus. It was delicious and VERY garlicky, almost reminiscent of toum. The 3 of us ate it all up! For my entree, I ordered the Yucatan pulled pork on tamal. I love tamales so my biggest fear is a dry one but this one was delicious. The pulled pork went perfectly on top, I wished there was more of it! The place is tiny with just a couple tables inside so we got ourselves a nice outside table. The server checked in on us to make sure we weren't missing anything. Unfortunately, we forced him to come back a few extra times because we were busy catching up and hadn't look at the menu. Nevertheless he was very nice and understanding which we totally appreciated. Definitely some place I hope to come back to again with my husband. Check it out!
Another wonderful visit at this adorable restaurant. This time we had the pleasure of Robert serving us, and from start to finish he made sure we were well taken care of. We've been coming here for quite some time now, and the consistency of the service is simply unmatched. They may be a small space, but the love and passion they pour into what they do reflects not only in the food, but in how they treat every single person who walks through their doors. Robert really owned the floor, warm, attentive, and so knowledgeable, especially when it came to wine. My boyfriend knows quite a bit about wine and he was genuinely impressed by the depth and passion Robert shared. It's rare to find that kind of hospitality paired with real expertise. What we ordered: Spanish Octopus Ceviche Tostada - This is a must every time we come. No words. Just order it and thank me later. Ratatouille Chile Relleno - Absolutely loaded and HUGE. I had maybe three bites and had to box it. Still excellent the next day! Yucatan Style Pork on Banana Leaf Black Bean Tamal - Not my order but my friend really enjoyed it. Lamb Shank Special - My boyfriend's dish and he loved it. He did say it would've been even better with guacamole and tortillas, but still a standout. Chimichurri & Artichoke Hummus - Courtesy of Robert, and we're still talking about it. So, so good. Flan - The perfect dessert. Not overly sweet, just silky, light, and the ideal finish to the meal. Another unforgettable visit. We even told Robert to keep us in the loop for their next food + wine pairing event in December! If you want food made with heart, flavors that make you pause, and service that genuinely makes you feel welcomed, please come here. Consistently one of our favorites!
Alejandro, 1 of the 3 muchachos, was our server. He recommended a wine to pair with our food. It was a great choice. He was informative, attentive, and very friendly. We sat on the shaded patio and ordered chilaquiles, a breakfast burrito, and eggs Benedict. All the dishes were inventive and delicious. The ambiance was chill. Understated elegance in a casual setting. We could not figure out why there weren't more diners in the restaurant. If you're in the neighborhood, please give this restaurant a try.
The service was outstanding and the atmosphere was great. This place will surprise you, the drinks were good and there's many options, cocktails , wine , beer. They have a cute set up for brunch!
Came here on a Thursday night and the place was packed. There's ample parking, bar seating, small tables inside and an outdoor patio with larger tables. We ordered the pork belly tacos and the breakfast burrito. They made a cheese quesadilla with fries for our daughter. Food was excellent, service was friendly and ambiance was cute! Can't wait to go back and try other things... though the pork belly tacos were SO delicious, I don't think we can return and not order those!
One of my favorite restaurants in Orange County. This food is TO DIE FOR. I usually eat the steak bavette tacos that come topped with chimichurri and chorizo...I upgrade my side to rice and beans and always have to get a side of their homemade habenero salsa. You have to experience this for yourself. The ambiance feels European and the service is excellent! This tops Javier's any day. The place is unique with character. Various decor on the wall, a bar, and a DJ set up. It's a bit cramped inside, but adequate. They also have a good size covered patio for seating. We visited on a Sunday morning for breakfast. It wasn't packed at all. Service was decent although our server was abrupt and not as friendly with our group as he was with the "regulars" he was attending to, he was professional. I say regulars because the few patrons that walked in and greeted with smiles and a friendly, how have you been was not the same greeting we received. The food was good, a bit overpriced for the portion size but I understand everything has increased. The menu selections for breakfast were slim but adequate. Good selections for spirits.
Great spot for brunch!! I'd like to come when they have live music too!! Service was top tier!! 10/10!! The food was great too! Especially the onion rings! Very savory and crispy!! I got the BLTA, that was a 10/10. My boyfriend got the huevos rancheros and he liked it all, just the chorizo was a little too spicy for him. I wanted something nonalcoholic so I was offered a lemonade, I usually am very picky because I do not like the fountain lemonade but our server told me it was freshly squeezed. I tried it and loved it! I had to get another one to go!! I highly recommend this spot!!!
They have WHITE SPANISH ANCHOVY bruschetta. Just like the kind in Spain. It was layered with diced tomatoes, olive oil and herbs. So yummy! We had the muchachos salad with barramundi and the shrimp tacos. The barramundi was huge! Spiced with savory coating and grilled. Huge side salad with a citrus dressing. Delicious! The 2 tacos had 16/20 size shrimp, 4 each taco with a mound of guacamole and cojito cheese placed inside a blue corn tortilla. Mixed green salad on the side. My favorite would have to be the barramundi fish. It was so flavorful and tender. I can definitely taste the quality in the food. Excellent service. Very friendly. Hint: they will let you customize tacos and get 2 different tacos in a dish or do à la carte. DJ on Friday nights and big outdoor patio. Dog friendly!
Tres Muchachos Wine Bar & Kitchen is a hidden gem on 17th St featuring mouth watering tapas and wine tasting in a cozy, hip and eclectic atmosphere. Small and family owned, it features unique and bold Mexican and Spanish tapas, a great variety of wines to choose from, and absolutely outstanding service. The Tres Veggie Tempura is unlike anything I've ever tried. Crispy zucchini with summer squash, eggplant and queso cotija was surprisingly good. Pairing it with a Schlumburger Brut sparkling wine from Austria was perfect. The Spanish Octopus Ceviche Tostada paired with a French Leoubre Rose was delightful. Then we had Yucatán Style Pork Tacos marinated in achiote and yellow manzana peppers, paired with a Lambrusco...fantastic. But nothing prepared me for the delectable Braised Denver Steak marinated in red wine! Reminiscent of a tender slow cooked short rib, this meat was complete with a creamy saffron risotto that transports you straight to Spain. The portion is less tapas and more main course so pace yourself accordingly . We finished dinner with a Belgian Chocolate Mousse with Berry Coulis that capped a beautiful evening, with a DJ spinning Santana classics in the background. Perfect evening all around. Great for date night too. Definitely a must try!
This review is long overdue. I first visited because of seeing they offered breakfast all day. Showing up on a Friday night, we were a little overwhelmed, but the server was so down to earth, informative, and inviting, we settled in. We loved the quality of the food, the service, and the background of how the restaurant began so much, we returned for a birthday dinner, which did not disappoint! Thank you so much for taking care of us! We can't wait to return and try the specials of the day! Oh I have to mention, that was some of the best hummus, and thee absolute flan, I've ever had in my entire life. Like flourless chocolate cake flan, and I don't even usually like flan lol
Stopped by here during my lunch at work. It's a quaint sports bar type mexican restaurant with seating both indoors and outdoors. The paella was delish here as well as the cerviche and yucatan style pork! Every dish was packed with so many different flavors! The environment was also both cozy and lively.. the server was also very attentive and personable. I had a great experience here. :) parking is a bit difficult but it's worth the struggle to dine here.

The food is amazing, the flavors are carefully combined to give each dish an authentic taste. The service is beyond amazing. This place is 100% recommended. Absolutely wonderful, laid back little place, tucked away in a little corner of a smaller plaza in Costa Mesa. They've made the most of the intimate space with comfortable seating, good music, decor that could be described as social media modern (not sure if that's a term but I believe it gives a pretty good idea of what to expect as there are cute instagrammable/TikTok ops if that's your thing) & immediately conveys a harmonious atmosphere of good energy. Went for a late lunch on a Thursday, just myself and a girlfriend. We ordered the octopus ceviche as a starter as well as the hummus and a peach sangria. Ceviche was shareable, lightly seasoned, ingredients were clearly fresh. Sangria was light & refreshing and thankfully not cloying like some can be. The hummus was so so good, we probably could've eaten a vat of it, not overdone or overpowered with one spice but a flavorful medley of spices, coming together beautifully for an interesting flavor profile. For the main dish I ordered tacos, couldn't decide between the pork belly and ahí tuna, waiter suggested I try both (and who am I to disagree?) so he brought one of each on a platter- I can't say enough good things about how delicious and tender the pork belly was, also loved the ahí tuna taco, which reminded me a bit of Poké but with a more robust protein portion wrapped in a blue corn tortilla (Latino/Asian fusion). My girlfriend ordered the Muchachos salad with chicken, overall she enjoyed however wasn't fond of the feta (personal preference). We finished off with the stuffed churros & ice cream, which sealed the deal on our overall flavorful experience. As far as service, our waiter was attentive, refilling our glasses without needing to be asked, ensuring we had everything we needed, providing suggestions when asked & also engaged with us in meaningful and knowledgeable ingredient & cooking technique conversation (we just returned from foodie paradise Mexico City & we were eager to chat). This place is a gem and it was shear joy to eat here. We went in feeling okay but the food, ambiance & service left us filled with happiness so contagious we couldn't stop smiling & dancing. read more

So happy to have discovered this place! The food was amazing and the service was excellent. Thoroughly impressed with this perfect taco Tuesday spot! Their selection of tacos, local brews, & dairy free food options set them apart. They have a chic indoor seating & roomy outdoor seating for warm socal days. We had the spinach, garlic, & artichoke hummus-probably the best hummus I've had in a long time! crispy fish tacos ,roasted pork belly tacos,al pastor tacos ,roast porchetta sandwich and Yucatán pork on Oaxacan black bean tamal. The Yucatán pork was super flavorful. Another favorite. Will definitely be coming back. read more

Tres Muchachos was "Bussin"! This teacher from LA/SFV was visiting and hanging out in Costa Mesa with her family and decided to try this place out based on previous yelp reviews, cuz Yelp always "nail it"! Andddd "sheesh"this place was "phenomenal"!! The Ceviche Tostada was "fire" but wait the Rosemary Hummus artichoke was delicious and definitely totally "lit"!!! Next came the Pesto Seafood Wine Pasta, Yucatán Style Pork Tamale, and Al Pastor Chilaquiles, literally we were ALL just drooling and enjoying the delicious tasty food!! Just came back from a NY trip and didn't get to experience the great flavors of culturally inspired type of food like this that chef prepped today!! We are of Hispanic heritage and what we/I had today was beyond that of authentic Mexican heritage food!!!! This being my 50th bday month, the dinner experience today tops it all!! Alejandro, our server was "on point" to keep us well fed and taken care all the way to the end, donde dicen hasta el " desempanze" which means just to get the digestion going after all the delicious meals we had, with the last drinks he brought us!! This place is incredible! Went for brunch with my girlfriends today and we all loved our whole experience. The service was outstanding, the food was incredible and there's even a full champagne menu! Will definitely be going here regularly. I had the special lemongrass pork chop and it was so delicious!! I did a deep dive in Orange County, trying to find a restaurant that has really tasty and unique food, and I stumbled across Tres Muchachos. The pictures and menu sold me. I have to say the food was absolutely amazing, but the service was really what sold me. Alejandro was one of the best servers I have ever had. He helped us decide on our wine choice and was passionate about what he was doing. In addition, I read the menu incorrectly and he was beyond accommodating and helping me with my food. The cooks also made it happen. They had a DJ, which I was worried was going to be too loud, but it was a perfect volume and add a fun ambiance to the whole experience. If you want a unique experience with bomb food, definitely try Tres Muchachos read more
BEST FISH AND CHIPS EVER!!! 10/10 you need to come and try. The fish was cooked to literal perfection!!! Each piece was perfect and crispy on the outside and flakey on the inside. We got the truffle fries and they were chunky, delicious, and beautifully cooked. The decor is the CUTEST and the service is impeccable. Our waiter gave us some mini fried sardines that were out of this world - on the house! He also gave us an extra fish because we had three people with us, even though you normally get two. Food tasted unseasoned, needed salt and pepper. Staff was really friendly and attentive. Nice vibe with a live DJ, maybe a good place to go for drinks. I was just looking for fish tacos while in route to the beach and this was the closest place. If I ever came back I'd try the desert but not the food. Both my and my girlfriends food taste unseasoned. read more

Tres Muchachos was named after the owner's 3 sons (how cute)! and specializes in South American cuisine. As with many other restaurants in LA, I'm always stunned by the presentation of these dishes. I've never seen tacos served in a black tortilla with newspaper in their takeout containers! Reminiscent of fish and chips. Unfortunately, I did feel like the tacos were very expensive ($8 per taco) and I didn't get that meaty juiciness I crave when I bite into a taco. Between the two I ordered, I liked my fish taco more than the al pastor. Service was really good, so I could see myself coming back for more fish tacos if I'm in the area! read more

So why is this place not a michilin Star restaurant? It should be! Someone nominate it! Seriously this place taste much better than taco Maria and cost half the price for same quality meat and sides. If you like taco Maria, you'll love this place. I wish I found this restaurant sooner. Artichoke and hummus dip taste superb. So good and so refreshing appetizer complimentary from the chef. Octopus ceviche was very fresh and tender. Toastada bottom was crunchy and not oily at all which is great. But nothing compared to the pork belly taco. Pork belly cooked to perfection. Moist inside, crispy outside. Put together with the perfect sauce. Just perfect. My new go to high class taco place. read more

This place is a gem when it comes to neighborhood spots. It has a casual, socal vibe that is more about the food than anything else. The atmosphere is great too, but you'll be especially treated to the top notch drink selection and homemade cuisine that's curated by the very personable, friendly owner Alejandro. We had octopus ceviche, which is the best I can remember having (and I'm always ordering octopus ceviche wherever it's on the menu), then we had the pozole, a wonderful chicken stew that was prepared by the owners mother in the kitchen. She waved and smiled at us while we sat at the bar and chatted with the owner. Everything about this place feels wholesome and fun. It's a perfect addition to 17th street, which has a little ways to go when it comes to cool stuff. Can't wait to go back here! read more

This was our first time here. It was recommended by someone and I'm so glad I took them up on the suggestion so, my girlfriend and I took our friend here to celebrate her birthday. What a great choice it was! 1st, the food and service here shows that the owners really care about every detail. They do their best to create a wonderful dining experience for the customer. The choices in expertly-crafted and well-thought-out dishes is admirable. I had a hard time deciding what to order only because anything I would've ordered would've been great. As a foodie and a decent cook, myself, I was extremely pleased with each of the dishes I shared pictures of. Yes, we shared everything so that each of us could taste every thing. We've ALREADY booked a reservation for next Sunday (Mothers Day) and there will be live mariachis! Our server, Chivo, and Enrique were incredibly friendly, generous and took every measure to make our dining experience perfect. I mean it, I couldn't have asked for a better time here today. I'm looking forward to next weekend so I can try some other options from the menu! read more

SERVICE: The service here was stellar. The server was so nice and answered any and every question we had regarding the food and restaurant. The kitchen also sent over some tortilla chips and artichoke dip on the house. AMBIANCE: The restaurant was relatively empty for lunch on a Tuesday which surprised me. The decor is very Instagram-worthy. There is indoor and outdoor seating available. FOOD: The menu is predominantly Mexican food, but sprinkled in there are other types of dishes like Greek, brunch, American, etc. The food was very flavorful and the portions were huge so it's great for splitting with friends. The shrimp in our salad was perfectly cooked, the octopus ceviche tostada was overflowing and the pork tacos were very filling. I could've done without the beans in the tacos, but other than that they were good. read more
It is great to see another local restaurant make its mark in my hometown--this shopping center has seen such a big revival in the past 5-10 years that it's now become one of the coolest places on 17th St and in Costa Mesa. The food is outstanding--very well done and high quality--but the service is just top notch. Owners Robert and Alejandro are really really friendly, and they go out of their way to make sure you are welcomed. This friendly service alone will make Tres Muchachos a regular neighborhood stop. The food portions are pretty big, so fair warning here--you will be full! The fish tacos had huge pieces of fish--this is not like regular tacos where you get a bit of meat. Here, you get what looked like 6-8 oz of salmon that went waaaay beyond the size of the blue corn tortilla. Their Salsa regular is very good--tomatillo based with smoky chilis inside--outstanding and very mild in heat. You can ask for hot salsa and they'll give you two different habañero options: very hot and waaay too hot. I mixed them with the regular salsa, and I thought the combined flavors were outstanding--good amount of habañero heat, slightly vinegary, and slightly smoky. Glad to see this place doing well--lots of regulars swing by here and are all greeted with friendliness. They had a DJ inside playing some music on Friday night too...overall a really great vibe here! read more

Had really high hopes for this place after seeing the ratings but was disappointed... The steak tacos were completely unseasoned. No flavor what so ever. We also had the anchovies bruschetta which was okay, the anchovies overpowered the dish in my opinion. The pasta wasn't bad but for the price point I was expecting more. The service was good which is why I am still giving 3 stars. read more

Why did I wait so long to check this place out?? Food was amazing and the service was excellent. The Al pastor Chilie Relleno was so damn good! Every element of the dish was cooked perfectly. I love that they split the dish for us, sending out two perfectly composed plates. We'll be back for sure. read more

Love this new spot! Service is over the top great and the food is absolutely amazing. The owners love what they do and you can tell. They have outdoor and indoor dining and an amazing menu with so many tasty options. Must go again soon! My fish sandwich was so yummy and fresh. This might be my fav spot in NB. The food is amaaaaazing. The hummus is delicious, the onion rings have just the right amount of crisp, the tacos are so flavorful and the hot salsa is perfect for an extra kick. Everything I've had here is just so good. I don't know who the chef is but they know what they are doing. The combination of flavors works so well and you can tell a lot of thought went into their fusion style menu as well as their effort to execute the dishes. The service is above standard as well. The servers pay attention, come around often to check on you, and are very friendly. They don't rush you or make you feel like a nuisance. The ambience is fun; it's a small restaurant but brings such a cool and relaxed vibe. Major bonus = they allow dogs on the patio. We'll be back over and over again. read more
