Came here for brunch last week and had such a cute place. The restaurant itself is adorable and feels like a cozy little home, which made the whole meal feel really comfortable and charming. I ordered the eggs with bacon, and my boyfriend ordered the eggs Benedict. The Benedict was honestly the best I've ever had. The hollandaise was amazing, and I'm usually not even a big fan of hollandaise, but this one completely changed my mind. I would definitely order it again. YUMMM I also loved the seasoned potatoes. Having lived in Orange County for 20+ years, I was excited to see this restaurant pop-up on OpenTable when I was looking for a place to go for Father's Day. We booked a 6 PM reservation and were seated promptly upon arrival. We placed our order by 6:10 PM and by 6:40 our appetizers still had not come. It also took about 20 minutes to get drinks, including water. They were out of the drinks (beer) that we ordered and they were also out of the first two entrées (ahi, then scallops) that I tried to order as well. What are entrées finally did arrive. I was disappointed to see that my soup had congealed on the top because it had been sitting in the back and ready for too long before it was brought out to me. Overall, the flavors were good and the food was decent my husband and I haven't yet decided if we think we'll make a return trip based on this experience. He had the fried chicken and enjoyed it. I was conflicted on writing this review. Normally, I don't post if it wasn't anything less than great (especially for small businesses) but I had to share this experience. This has nothing to do with the food and the service. Our server was wonderful and accommodating. The food was quite good and we would have visited again. The rudeness of the owner was beyond words. We were seated with 4 kids and 6 adults. My child is 4 and was hitting his utensils on the table to make music. The owner immediately reprimanded him. She suggested giving the kids pencils and papers as an activity. I thought that was a great idea and said, "yes please". My son, like most children, began hitting his utensils again while waiting. When she saw, she said she would not give the kids the activity if they didn't stop. She then proceeded to snatch all utensils from the kids. I should have said something at that point but I didn't want to ruin the mood. We were celebrating my nephews 8th birthday. After that incident, my husband went up and gave her a suggestion about their menu. He was getting something from the car and didn't witness what happened with the utensils. He has a hard time reading and told her. She proceeded to say, "well we have 5 stars. Then added sarcastically, "well Happy Mother's Day to you too." Rude and uncalled for. I am not good with confrontation and we should have left the restaurant. However, I did not want to penalize our waitress and the other staff who have been great. The owner ultimately left the hostess area but I could hear her telling others that something was wrong with the atmosphere. Obviously that was directed at us. I like to give people the benefit of doubt but not from this type of treatment. She might have had a bad day but you can't act on emotions as a business owner. The thought also crossed my mind that she may have been racist. Needless to say, our birthday lunch was ruined and we couldn't help but discuss the treatment. Our waitress apologized on behalf of the owner but that was seriously inexcusable. read more

Super cute spot! On the outside it looks like an house, but on the inside it's a full restaurant with a bar inside and a small patio out back. We started our brunch with a spicy Bloody Mary which was delicious and my husband had an old fashioned which he said was excellent!!! Bartender was busy and made great cocktails. The bee's knees is just that!! My husband and I were looking for something new to try and we are so happy we landed here. We were greeted by the owner and seated right away. We were there for breakfast but so happy we could order from the lunch menu as well. We tried the fried green tomatoes which were delicious! I got the lump crab cake with the potato hash. The crab cake was perfection, slightly crispy on the outside and had a great flavor. Potato hash was well seasoned. Love the little baguette toasts with the jam. Came here on a Thursday around 9:15am and was able to sit wherever we wanted as it wasn't busy I'm impressed by their crab cake hash as it was a good amount of crab and the potatoes were soft and seasoned well. I cannot believe I lived near Newport for 3 years and had not heard of Tupelo Junction!! This place was incredible!! Adorable little southern kitchen with amazing food. Our server was really great -- sweet and funny! Our table ordered the biscuit with jumbleberry jam, cinnamon apple beignets, dungeness crab cakes, huevos rancheros, and fried chicken salad with cornbread. Everything was a hit! The jumbleberry jam was to die for, so flavorful. Obviously, the beignets were delicious, especially paired with the creme anglaise and caramel. I came for the crabcake Benedict but when I got there, I think it was it was closer to dinner time so when I asked for crabcake, they offered the crabcake salad and oh my goodness it was amazing! Loooooove me some Tupelo, we always have a good time here breakfast lunch or dinner it always is just right. Dinning here is always easy as people don't know about it so usually have space and attentive wait staff. We went big with a gift card and ordered the fried chicken salad to start, then the sloppy Joe and the pork. All of which are just fantastic options. The only thing I would love to see here is a new menu item, I have had this menu multiple times and it's all so good. But man a nice weekly special or something new would really excite me. Saw some enticing Yelp reviews and we gave this place a go. It's ok. Hits on some, misses on some. It's on the Lido side of the Balboa peninsula, so parking could be a bit of an adventure when it's busy. We lucked out and were able to get one right out front. Small joint set in an old school house. Small bar with indoor and outdoor seating. We got the seared ahi, fried chicken salad with cornbread, and the jambalaya. We started with fried green tomatoes and capped it off with the apple beignets. Good variety of drinks available, though no beer on tap. Bottles only. Fried green tomatoes came with corn salsa. Solid. Seared Ahi was decent as was the fried chicken salad. Jambalaya was sub par. Came with clams, mussels, shrimp, sausage and chicken. And the requisite rice. I think they should keep it simple and just go with chicken, shrimp and sausage. Also, some bread woulda been nice with this dish to soak up the broth. Ok. The beignets. Not the usual, light airy type. These were more like burnt, deformed cake donut holes. Overcooked to the point where the bits of apple were crispy. Service was friendly, but a little slow. Pricing is a little high, but on par with the area. If you come here and raise the 4.5 star flag, hey it's all good. For us, just ok. read more

Loved this place. Tucked away on a small narrow street, is a gem! Great breakfast, lunch, or Brunch spot. We were party of 7 and everyone loved their meals. We ordered the Chicken and Waffles - seriously crispy and juicy chicken. with a delicious waffle and side of gravy, the breakfast wrap, looking hearty and flavorful, and a traditional 2-egg/bacon breakfast with probably the best cornbread I've ever had! Tupelo Junction is tucked into a neighborhood in Newport on the peninsula, rather hidden. We arrived a bit after 11:00 am for lunch and it wasn't crowded, which I was shocked with all the tourists in Newport, but it was a weekday too. We sat inside, as it was a bit chilly on a very overcast morning and a lovely ocean breeze. We were immediately greeted and our server brought menus over and took drink orders. She was so sweet and friendly, offering her favorites and other popular dishes on the menu. We scoured the breakfast and lunch menu and made our decisions. Mr. B wanted breakfast and he went with the Eggs Benedict which was served with potatoes. Hey when in a Southern restaurant, one must go a bit Southern. So I ordered myself the Southern favorite of Fried Green Tomatoes served with a corn and tomato salsa. The food came out pretty quickly and was nice and hot. Mr. B loved his Eggs Benedict, the ham was fork tender, you didn't need a knife to cut it and it was full of flavor with perfectly poached eggs. My Fried Green Tomatoes were scrumptious. Battered in a cornmeal batter, they were very crispy without being greasy and the tomatoes were melt in your mouth tender. The salsa was perfectly salted and I absolutely loved each and every bite. Tupelo Junction is a new favorite, we will be back for breakfast, lunch and even to give the dinner menu a go. There is a decent amount of indoor seating with a very nice patio. Parking is street parking, so on weekends I imagine it is difficult. You pay by the Newport Beach parking app. Instructions are posted on signs if you don't already have it. The food is good, which is not easy in this area as it can be super touristy. The food is not cheap, but it is yummy. Their Chicken fried steak is not made from frozen - which in SoCal is a news worthy event. The staff is good. Very attentive and not pushy for you to clear out at the end of your meal. The coffee and OJ were great. The bathrooms clean and parking is OK, can be tricky on the weekend. read more
