First of all, they have a coupon when you use your Yelp app! Pay $5 for a $10 coupon that lasts a year...can't beat it and why try. You can present the coupon or your Yelp App. Nice, huh? The décor is really cute with globes and neat geographical art. I wandered in on a Monday, so it was quiet. People wandered in behind me, so by the time I left, there were several tables of people enjoying the atmosphere and food. I sat at the bar and enjoyed a well made, well priced martini. The crab cake appetizer delivered three cute cakes with a plentiful field greens salad. Perfectly portioned for my palate and hunger. I loved the light dressing. I appreciated the crusty outside and juicy inside of the crab cakes, but why was there shell pieces in my cakes? When I make crab cakes at home, I use the legs and claws and never have pieces of shell. Did they use the daggone knuckles? How else would you have shell fragments. Well it put me off the third time, so I ordered dessert. The cannoli were really sweet and nice on the tongue. They had a cherry compote (perhaps bourbon cherries) and freshly crushed almonds. I love the ambiance of Tresetti's but I am still a bigger fan of Tremayne's other restaurant in downtown, Concetta. The restaurant is big and airy with plenty of white-flocked tables in two separate dining rooms (plus the patio and the bar area) which makes it feel intimate and fancy. But the food, while very good and consistent, sometimes just leaves a teeny bit to be desired. I got a pulled pork sandwich this last time and it just was too saucy and too sweet. Partially that's my taste but it seemed overdone. The fries were delicious. Caesar salad was generously portioned but too heavily-dressed (and the dressing was a bit too fishy.) My mother enjoyed her chicken salad and my sister her portobello sandwich, so it could be just me. Good service but they took a really long time to bring us requested things and the restaurant was barely starting to fill up during our early lunch. Again, I can only pick out small things - we always really enjoy our experience and the French bread and cornbread muffins are delicious - but it's why Concetta wins out for me for fine dining in Modesto. However, one thing Tresetti's trumps on is the rewards program and the birthday reward (a free lunch or dinner entree in the month of your birthday!) Nothing beats it. read more

Very Very good! Had a wonderful meal last night. Started with the gumbo in which the waitress said they've been selling for 49 years!! I expected it to be bland like normal fancy places pretending to have authentic food; but nevertheless it was beyond amazing reminded me of when I was in the bayou in my younger years. Followed it with the chicken cordon blue that blew my absolute socks off the gravy and the cheese made a taste combination I've only experienced in the most prestige of home cooked meals. The chicken tasted fresh and the ham was actually smoked as advertised. The staff is very efficient and courteous. We stopped at Tresetti's Restaurant in Modesto, this Saturday at dinner time before seeing ABBA (also excellent). We just drove in from the Sacramento area and did not think about reservations. The limited staff at Tresetti's worked hard to fit us in for dinner, the food was excellent, the waitress fit us in her schedule, served us a wonderful meal, excellent wine and had us out on time to get to our reservation. We all know how hard it is to get help now ;(... we were grateful, she worked double time to see that we had a wonderful meal and were out in time to make it to the ABBA production. Appreciated they were able to do a private lunch on a weekday for a friend's celebration. Let me tell you, hands down the Burrata appetizer was one of the best things I have ever eaten. The cheese was creamy and soft. The berries were fresh and sweet. I didn't use the bread due to an allergy but honestly, this appetizer doesn't need it. It took my party of 10 over 20 minutes to even be acknowledged even though we had a reservation. After we were seated, we were told there was only 1 menu available. 1 menu for 10 people! Mind you there was only a handful of people in the bar area. The waitress/barmaid was rude and even after she took our drink order, it was a good 20 minutes to get them. Another 20-25 minutes before we got to order appetizers . When she brought our food, several of my guests reordered drinks.. of which were never brought. My clam chowder was salty as heck and it tasted n smelled fishy. Oh ..The bread was good. My husband Had to get up and go ask for the check 2 times. This was my wedding party and I was so embarrassed & disappointed I suggested this place. We might of ordered more drinks if the 2nd ones had come n we were going to order dinner had things been better! Planned on spending a few hours together after the wedding... That was ruined.. This is one of the best restaurants that I have been able to find. The food, service and feeling of the place was great. My daughter and I went there for dinner before a show at the Gallo. I had a beautiful pork chop with a mango salsa and my daughter had the salmon with couscous and fresh carrots. My pork chop was so juicy and cooked to perfection. The mango salsa was a nice spicy addition to it. There was so much I could not eat it all.For dessert we had the most beautiful carrot cake with a fresh whipped cream all topped with Candied carrot slices. This carrot cake was so delicious nice plump raisins in it with a great cream cheese frosting. A place I will definitely return to. Service was great. Even at the end of our meal. I want to like this place, I really do. We have given it a few tries, but it just is kinda bad. A groupon popped up and we live walking distance, so we decided to give it another shot. The atmosphere is good, it is a pretty cool space. we were seated promptly. Wife ordered the drink special ($9 fruity thing), which our server likely forgot, because she was chatting with another table and gave us an "oh crap" look and hustled off to get it. Glass was supposed to have a sugar rim, but we didn't get that...so... Ordered filet and lobster, and the spicy swordfish special. both got salads....salads were ok, not great. While waiting for meals, I checked in on yelp and got a "free wine, or well" thing. When the server happened by, I showed her and she said if we were using a groupon (I hadn't told her), we couldn't have that too. She kinda made us feel like we were trying to use EBT at a country club....even though they are the ones throwing the offers out there. Considering we bought the two most expensive entrees on the menu, with salads and their "special" drink...it felt that a glass of house wine they offered wouldn't be an issue, but I guess I was wrong. Food took awhile, which is ok for this level of restaurant. Server didn't keep drinks full, instead focusing on chatting up the table a few over. When we got our food, it was stunningly average. My swordfish was overcooked to a point of dry and despite supposed "spicy" feature, was very bland. My wife ordered her filet mid rare, and got well done. It was a shame, the steak was decent quality, just flat out overcooked (at $40+). Lobster tail was rubbery. Sides were forgettable. Overall, pricing is fine dining level. Atmosphere is good. Service is low / competent for the level of place. Food is marginal. Our groupon was $40 for $22, and without it, we would have spent $100 for a $40 meal. This was our third dining visit and we wanted it to be good...it just wasn't. Will go back for drinks on occasion, but there are better dining options within a block. read more

Originally I had planned to leave a one-star-review, but there were a few good things about my first experience at Tresetti's that one star did seem a bit harsh--I realize that two stars isn't a vast improvement but the 'Meh. I've experienced better.' description for two stars does in fact sum up my experience. I'll start with the negatives: * We did not receive a cocktail list, even though it would appear that they have one, especially since, on the daily specials menu there is a featured cocktail. I would've loved to try something other than my usual. A minor grievance, but one nonetheless. * The entree my partner had ordered was misspelled on the printed 'daily special menu'. Another minor grievance, but attention to detail is important. * My soup was forgotten, at first. My partner and I ordered our appetizers (his, an appetizer, mine, the soup) before we even decided on entrees. His arrived in a timely fashion, but mine was forgotten completely. Unfortunately, before it was apparent that my soup was not arriving, our entrees made their way to the table and I was quite hungry at that point. I decided that I would just make a note for later on to have it removed from our bill if it was present there. * I ordered the Grilled New York Saltimbocca, and requested (when asked) that it be cooked mid-rare. I cut into the center and it was cooked well done. When I notified my server, she promptly had it corrected, but the replacement, although less well done, was still barely pink. As I waited, she brought over some chicken soup but I declined in favor of receiving the french onion I had originally ordered back during the appetizer course. By this time, my partner had finished his appetizer and was tucked into his main course; when my entree arrived, he finished my soup but the pacing of enjoying a meal together was somewhat skewed and I was still working on my entree when he had finished. It's also worth noting that this particular steak was fatty and grisly, not what I expect from a New York strip. As for the Corvina, it was very tasty, but under salted. But the experience wasn't all bad. * Our server was very pleasant, and quick to remedy my entree woes. She also took care of our drinks for our troubles. * While dining, I noticed that as the tables were changed, they also changed the tablecloth so that new customers would have a pristine table and that small attention to detail was charming and appreciated--again, attention to detail is important and this was lovely to see. * The interior is modern and minimalist and very pretty. * They were willing to correct my order and still maintain a sense of professionalism. * The menu is appropriately priced. * Their take on french onion soup is VERY good. I'm not sure if another visit is in the cards for me and mine. I'd like to give it another chance, but I don't know that I'd bring guests along for a second visit. read more

This was the first and last time I will step in this restaurant. My friend and I felt we were racially discriminated last night when we went in to get dinner. The hostess said she was going to walk through the restaurant to see if a table was open. When she came back another white couple came in and they completely disregarded us as if we did not exist. They took the white couple behind us and sat them down. I tried to intervine and let the hostess know are still here. She completely ignored us. They sat us down in this broken down tall table on the other side of the door. We waited for the waitress to come, so we could excuse ourselves and tell her we felt so disrespected and it was rude to even have this kind of behaviors. After a mediocre meal across the street from this establishment, I was about to return to the Doubletree to sit in the lounge, have wine, and feed my addiction (Sudoku, not the wine). It was still light outside at around 7.15 and the heat had dropped to a pleasant level. Tresetti's had some tables outside on the sidewalk, and I decided to check it out. Inside the door I was met by a sweet hostess who thought it was no problem to just sit outside and have wine and sparkling water. She even asked me if I wanted some bread. She grabbed a wine list and accompanied me outside to any table I wanted. A few seconds later she cam back with bread and napkin/flatware. The wine list was ok, though a little short considering that there is an adjoining wine merchant. Prices for reds were $24 through $40, except for the half-bottle of Opus One for $80. Sparkling wines were not well represented. Veuve Clicquot was the only Champagne at $30 for 375 ml. I had questions about two of the reds. I couldn't tell the origins of those. When I asked the waiter, he had no clue. He left and after a few minutes returned with both bottles. He showed me and told me his boss recommended the second one which hailed from Italy. Great! He started pouring; I already had my hand outstretched to taste. But he never stopped. He just poured the whole glass full. It is more of a ritual, I know. But at $40, I expect just a little more knowledge. I asked for the largest bottle of sparkling water there is. He asked if it had to be Pellegrino or if it could be any sparkling water. I ordered whichever sparkling is biggest. He brought a beautiful blue bottle. After tasting and finding it rather flat, I noticed the bottle said Spring water, not Sparkling. Not really wanting to deal with my genius, I didn't complain. After another few minutes, he came back again. It was 7.30 and he was leaving. He was hoping I could pay. I did. It took me about 2 hours to finish my wine and water. The tables around me slowly filled up. It became quite Felliniesque. I noted some of the statements I overheard. One woman to another, "My brother is a schizophrenic." A man to a woman friend, "I can drive. Last night I had a picher. I'll be all right." Another man to a woman, apparently a first date. "A scallop is like fish. It looks like a little 'making a little circle with his fingers'. I guess she liked fish since I could smell the scallops when they were brought. And they really smelled like fish! During these two hours, the waitresses that replaced my waiter never once came by to check on me. read more

Was actually intimate; we had no problem having a conversation despite the buzz of the bar. Props for that. Dinner... The cheese plate. I asked if we could add salami. No salami, so they added extra everything else instead. Walnuts, almonds, cheeses, the works. Very nice. The bruschetta trio. Loved the pesto. The tacos. Nailed it. All w a really nice Pinot Noir. L and I enjoyed a great dinner here. I suppose I must be Bay Area food snob I never guessed that Modesto would have such a good restaurant. I hadn't made a reservation, even though the information that the conference provided on local restaurants said I should. The hostess was concerned that we didn't have a reservation, but found a table for us anyway. Before we left every table was taken. Our dinner, with two cocktails each, was pricey, but well worth it. I had the grilled vanilla bean brined prime rib of pork. It was topped with a spicy pecan butter, served with buttermilk mashed potatoes and succotash. The rib was the size of a small pig. I also had the onion soup. The pork rib was very tender and the vegetables were wonderful. I was able to have a nice breakfast with the leftovers. The onion soup was good, but not the best I have had. L had the grilled Australian lamb chops. The chops were in marinated in molasses with roasted garlic and extra virgin olive oil, then topped with a mint demi glaze and served with truffle scented mashed potatoes and braising greens. She had the soup of the day, lobster pumpkin bisque with lemon cream frache. There were pieces of lobster in the strange soup. We both thought my soup was better, but by the time she finished it she said that hers grew on her. I like her chops more than my rib. read more

Very nice and a place we have wanted to visit for dinner, but never could get in, So we went for lunch and it was great. Service was friendly, menu had lots of choices and here we were right smack in the middle of downtown Modesto. They have Italian, Mexican and American traditional. Italian with a flair in that there are small twists and accents to traditional food. Bread is served, along with jalapeno and some other red pepper tiny muffins. Delicious. Even the simple hamburger my wife had was great. My onion soup could have been better with more onions it but the flavor was full and the seasoning unknown, but tasty. My french dip sandwich was stuffed with great beef and the au jus was delicious, not the salty residue usually left over from prime rib cooking. This version was light, fresh and flavorful.
