Excellent food and friendly staff! We ate early so we didn't see the flamenco show they have here. We had a friendly waiter named Marcello. He gets an A+++ for upselling the menu. He started out asking if my husband and I would like to share a pitcher of sangria. I really didn't want to but found myself saying yes. (Marcello is quite charming.) One of the reasons I chose this restaurant is because I read it had good vegetarian options. There were really only a few and nothing really appealed to me but I chose a rice, eggplant, and broccoli dish. I was really curious what it was going to look like. My husband ordered mofongo with shrimp. I never expected my dish to be prepared like one of those rice mounds, the way you frequently get rice in PR. It was sooo good ... delicious! As an added surprise, there were three amarillos on the plate, which I love so much. I was wondering why we didn't get any bread but Marcello brought it with the meal. I thought it was a bit cheap - two rolls in a basket. But it came with an aioli spread that was very tasty. Probably better that there weren't more rolls becasue I surely would have eaten them. Back to Marcello - before ordering he tried to get us interested in appetizers. I didn't bite. Then it was paella for 2 but I'm a vegetarian and my husband isn't. They also have vegetarian paella but not something my carnivorous husband would really fancy. It seemed after that, Marcello was not as friendly anymore and never even once during our meal came and checked if we needed anything. After we ate, he tried to sell us on desserts. Again, no. I felt the initial friendliness that he had shown us when we sat down had somewhat cooled. But after we paid and my husband gave him a 20% tip, his friendliness went up again and we spent a little time chatting with him. All in all, he was a good waiter, service was good, and food was great. But Marcello, if you see this, don't take it persoanlly if people just want an entree and that's it. read more

Absolutely fell head over heels for this little gem in Old San Juan! Found this place for the first time a couple of years ago and come back every time I'm in the island visiting my family. Hands down the best Spanish food and tapas you will find around and they also make amazing signature Puertorrican dishes. Portions are big and beautifully presented. They make the best mojitos too, from scratch! Sangria is also very good and tastes really authentic. If you're interested in having Puertorrican food, order the mofongo, holy shit. We stopped in here mid afternoon on a Saturday while touring Old San Juan. Our bartender, Eric, was attentive and very kind - the kind of customer service you'd love to have everywhere. A bit pricey but worth it when splitting it with another. The portions are quite large. The other clients were very lively so it definitely added to the experience. The good news was that it wasn't very crowded (probably a sign) which allowed me to just sit in the corner quietly by myself and read while eating. The only awkward thing was the service... when I made it clear to the waiter that I wasn't really interested in him flirting shamelessly with me... I got ignored for the rest of the evening. Several good things about this place. Pros: cool location, things to do after dinner (especially by the water, tons of dancing on the boats). Portions are huge here and the dishes are yummy! Awesome entertainment. Flamingo dancers for almost the entire evening. They go around and ask for everyone's names and where they are from and later during their performance they say your name and thank you for coming. Pretty cool. It wasn't too crowded for a Saturday night but when we were getting ready to leave, it started to get a little packed (around 11 p.m.). Service was ok. Our waiter was blah, no personality. This was one of my favorite dining experiences during my stay in San Juan. Our waitress was perfect from beginning to end. I wish I remembered her name. The food was delicious. My girlfriend and I stopped in here while walking around San Juan for dinner. We were lucky enough the catch Juan Carlos' guitar and flamenco, which was definitely the highlight. He is an amazing artist, probably the most talented person I have ever seen in person. The food was good but not outstanding. It would have been a slightly above average experience if not for the live music and flamenco dancing, which takes it over the top. We ordered several different tapas dishes which were larger than we thought. Also, the service was a little sluggish. For the entree's I had the lamb chops medium well with a baked potato out of this world. I was full after 3 but because they were so flavorful and juicy I had to eat all 5! Note: if you are wanting to see a flamenco Dance and music show, this is not it. The guitarist for this show is a stellar Flamenco guitarist. That being said, the show here is more about HIS life, guitars around Latino America, and flamenco quitar WITH back up dancers (which only closed the show with maybe 3 flamenco "tablaos"...the beginning and middle of show dancers back up dance to guitarist diff. Latino american music...they were good but not what you would usually see at a traditional flamenco show.) This is more of a VARIETY show. The establishment needs to change the name of show to the guitarist name. As for food. Tostones, fried plantain, and sangria where great, but the seafood paella, was not. The mussels tasted muddy, the lobster was rubbery and not cleaned .the best part of paella was the rice. But i must say staff was attentive and did not charge us for the lobster. I really hate to write a bad review. But i was very disappointed in not seeing a traditional tablao. Wish this establishment would be more clear about the show. read more

We didn't do the research, just looked for places near our hotel, and left with huge grins. What a fun night! The flamenco show was so completely engaging, funny, and my kids were in love with the experience as well. The decor is fun and the staff are really friendly. The menu has a lot of tapas items so we were able to try different local and Spanish dishes. I would skip the grouper ceviche but we enjoyed trying the different stews and seafood platters. We started off with warm rolls straight out of the oven with Aioli, which was perfect. For our entree, we had Tapas de Madre so that we could sample several things and it was delicious! The spinach dough pillows and beef sauce with vegetables in the middle were my favorites. Their red wine sangria is amazing!! Triana has a beatiful entrance full of Spanish decorations. I loved the Flamenco dancers cut-out to take pictures. The tapas I had were good. It was a bit pricey though. The show was a mixture of comedy & Latina women dancing to songs that were from Latin America initially. I was a little frustrated because I love Flamenco music as well as dance. This place was fantastic! My boyfriend and I were just wandering the streets when we decided we were hungry and we saw this place on the corner! We were craving some local cuisine and we definitely found the right place. Our server made wonderful recommendations too! My boyfriend ordered a local Puerto Rican dish called Mofongo (which is fried plantains) with steak, and I ordered the freshly caught Mahi Mahi topped with some wonderful mango something or other, and a side of fettuccine alfredo that was so large it could've been a serving in itself and it was so unbelievably creamy and delicious I couldn't even finish it and I had to bring the leftovers back to our hotel for a late night snack. We were both on a passionfruit kick as well because it's so fresh and delicious and so we both decided to order passionfruit daiquiris as well. And they were so delicious we could've sat there drinking them all day if were weren't about to explode from eating so much food. And as if we weren't stuffed enough, we also requested an order of Tres Leches for dessert. The little restaurant was cozy and had fun little trinkets and photo opportunities at the front entrance, too. If I could swing down to Puerto Rico for lunch, I'd definitely come here right now because I'm having a hankering and salivating just writing this review. read more

We took a cruise. San Juan, was one of the ports of call. We were very excited to return to Puerto Rico. We had been there once previously, but did not get a chance to go to old San Juan. Our main goal upon entering was to explore the culture, rich city, and have a cultural culinary experience. We read some of the restaurant menus where we were, and decided on Triana's because not only did the menu look amazing. The waitress also said they would be having entertainment. After walking around a bit, we return back to Triana's and sat at the bar to have some cocktails before dinner. The bartender who was just beginning his shift came over to see if we needed anything. We ordered a a couple of more cocktails as he was serving us. A conversation in sued. I commented on how amazing the architecture of the building was, and how cool the really old marble floors were even though they were cracked. He gave us a bit of history about the building telling us it was an old bank, and in the basement there is even one of the old fashion safes where they used to have a bar and serve drinks, but it got wiped out during one of their many hurricanes. He seem to have a chip on his shoulder, but when he said that he worked full-time as a contractor and came to work at the bar at night I just figured he was tired until the conversation hit a brick wall. we asked him where he was from originally which opened the door for him to give us his entire Puerto Rican heritage, which also let him into the fact that it's very hard for the Puerto Rican population in Puerto Rico because of all the "gringos" that are coming there to purchase "their" real estate, and how the government has screwed every country in the world I was a little surprised at the way he was being so disparaging first about not only his country but Second making racial slurs in front of customers who are coming in there to patronize that restaurant. Also considering that Puerto Rico is America duh !! Whatever I was on vacation and didn't wanna get into a political debate with a 20 something year old. We decided to go sit down at our table we ordered octopus and the cod. Fritters, the food was absolutely amazing which is where I would give the five star review our waitress. Rebecca was also absolutely amazing. She deserved a five star review the older gentleman who came on stage one Carlos begin to play the guitar we were amazed at how awesome he was, he had two flamenco dancers who joined the stage and they were also great very beautiful to watch. In his dialogue, he talked about how he was invited to the mainland of America to perform on the Ed Sullivan show, and with that brought him much attention to the point where they invited him to go to Las Vegas to be the opening act for many very famous entertainers, such as Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Junior, Frank Sinatra, etc. This was all really interesting and we were having a great time until he too decided to start insulting the white population insinuating that we didn't know the difference between Cuban music and Mexican music, and that we knew perhaps a few words of one song, and we didn't even know where that music originated from. I'll bet you he wasn't insulting the us when he was the opening act for these very famous people. And if he was opening in all these glamorous places, why is he strumming a guitar and some corner bar in San Juan? I' m not quite sure if this is the way all of Puerto Rico is and I'm also not sure why they think mainland Americans are so stupid but they can keep their culture. I can go somewhere else and be treated much better and I can bet you if we made a disparaging remark about the Spanish / Indian / African which is what the Puerto Rican ethnicity is made up of they would've had a lot to say and very loudly! read more

We did not have dinner, we sat at the bar and had some tapas! Everything we ate was great, especially the manchego cheese. They had a some wonderful wines as well. Luckily we were there for salsa lessons! This was just awesome. We had a blast dancing with another family. The leader made it easy. I would have given this place a Five Star except we had one minor incident which almost ruined my birthday night. And this problem was when we came to check in for our reservation for the Flamenco show, after having eaten two previous excellent meals there. They wanted to seat us at the back after we had guaranteed our reservations for the front. My BF thought it was a racial thing, but I tried hard not to dwell on that. (when we showed up, the young lady asked us if we had reservations and we said yes and gave my name. She looked puzzled, she walked to the Maitre D, they confèred over the seating chart while whispering in Spanish and she tells us to follow her. She offered us a seat towards the back which was not what we had reserved during our second meal during the day in anticipation of the flamenco show. Needles to say my BF had a sour taste in his mouth and I just tried to smile it off. When we refused, she smiled and showed us to our original table reserved and we sat down) So, with that said. The food is great, I mean really delicious. The Flamenco show is a must see. Highly entertaining, the music is beautiful, the dancers just watching the joy on their faces while they dance makes you want to leap up and join. And join we did. We happen to have been there celebrating my 35th birthday dinner and all birthday and anniversary celebrants were called on stage to learn some hip and hand moves. Boy was I happy. Wine selection is really good but bloody expensive, so know your wines before ordering. The staff is professional but I would suggest going during the day. read more

We walked past this gem after a day of sightseeing and were told that they had a dinner and show. After walking all day we planned on staying in for the night but I'm so glad we made it to Triana for dinner. Juan Carlos Garcia MC'd and performed with his guitar exquisitely. The dancers were fantastic. We had the Cod Croquetas and Paella, both were delicious. We hope Triana remains a staple in Old San Juan. Highly recommended! read more
