When we finally got called back after 30 minutes of waiting, the team member who took us to the exam room immediately said they can't even help us with my daughter's issue. This is after waiting six months to get in here, my optometrist sending notes on my daughter's issue, and no one catching that when initially accepting the referral but instead wasting our time. I immediately demanded a refund of the office visit copay we paid when checking in, and the billing lady at the front desk was confrontational and then went into an office where I'm assuming the office manager was and I could hear the office manager making all sorts of comments yet did not come out and speak with me. They told me insurance requires my daughter to be seen by an ophthalmologist to refer her to another specialist after all. No one knew what they were doing and the ONLY person kind enough to apologize or understand my frustration was the initial team member we met with. They charged us for an hour exam (which was only that long because of how long they took to get us back and all the back and forth; we only met with the doctor for 10 minutes at the most), they were not kind, they were dismissive and rude, made us pay for additional retinal images that my optometrist could have shared with them, and then we had to wait even longer to even see the doctor. Worst doctor's experience of our lives. And after a month of not hearing about her referral, when I called to check the status, both people I talked to were incredibly rude as well, did not apologize, and interrupted me multiple times. I would not recommend this place to anyone; the worst.

I've been a patient at Carolina Ophthalmology for the last several years (see my separate review of…read moretheir office). And I've been a glasses-wearer since, well, third grade. Growing up, I stubbornly refused to sport them and would only put them on when trying to read the clock -- or the chalkboard. (It's a wonder I graduated, really.) I was finally able to get contacts in high school (oh, happy day that was). But the worry of losing one in gym or remembering to pack eye solution for vacation and so on was always an annoyance. I wanted to have LASIK but it just really wasn't a financial reality until recently. Even better, the office was running a special that came to $1,000 off or so. I know you may be thinking: discount eye surgery? Eep! I've always been a patient of Dr. Scroggs and so when I had my initial consultation, it was my first meeting with Dr. Bryan -- the LASIK surgeon. I felt like I was in very good hands the whole time. Pam first talked to me about the procedure and then showed me a video. I had my eyes examined and a cornea scan done, plus a sit-down Q&A with the doctor, and was declared a good candidate for the procedure. The worst part of the whole thing has to be a tie between being forced to wear my old-prescription eye glasses for a month leading up to the surgery (not a vanity thing, but a practical thing -- I haven't kickboxed since March!) and having slips of paper put in my eyes for five minutes to test tear reaction. Yes, it's as uncomfortable as it sounds. Anyway, the good news is since :that's: the worst part -- the day-of is really easy, breezy! Be ready for some final eye scans, a shower cap and some Valium. Yes, you'll be awake in the OR (but it's only 40 seconds each eye. And was basically painless. Dr. Bryan talked to me the entire time, let me know what was coming next and encouraged me through the parts that might have been a little scary otherwise. Plus they give you a stuffed animal to squeeze! -- I remember in my valium-ed state being very disappointed that I didn't get to keep that 'gator). But I did get thorough post-op instructions and a travel kit full of eye drops. The doctor called me at 5pm the same day to check on how I was doing. And though it's only been 24 hours since, I can see better than I ever have. Had a follow-up today, and still no stuffed gator, but I did get a tee that reads: Guess what I'm not wearing? How cute -- and dare I say... yelpy. ps) I have some $200 coupons for LASIK that are good through the end of June. PM me if you're interested. I was one of those people who waited until the last minute to take advantage of their vision…read moreinsurance benefits that were expiring soon... I had been meaning to go to the eye doctor's and get new glasses or contacts (if I didn't need new glasses since my insurance only pays for one or the other in a 12-month period). In the past, I've always gone to the places at Walmart or wholesale stores like BJ's/Costco. Now that I'm a fully functioning adult, I decided to do more research and choose a local practice. It was honestly hard to pick a local eye doctor, since there are many reputable ones in the area. It was ultimately between Rosenstein and one other for me, and I arbitrarily picked Rosenstein because it was literally 5 minutes down the road! They have an online booking system called PatientReach, so I didn't even have to call to make an appointment. When you make an appointment through PatientReach, you can include a comment, and I noted that I'd like to get a regular eye exam done, and potentially a contacts exam done if my vision is stable (enough) since last time, and there is no need for me to get new glasses. I made an appointment mid-November, and couldn't get a spot in until the second week of December (do not procrastinate like me if this would stress you out!). My appointment was with Dr. Gretz. Before seeing her, I got a few "tests" done really quickly by a staff member. Then my actual eye exam was performed by Dr. Grezt, who was pleasant and listened to my concerns. I did explain that I'm interested in getting contacts but only if I do not need to get new glasses. My vision was stable enough, and I did get the contacts exam done as well. She brought me to the optical department where Austin walked me through the process of getting contacts (should I choose to do so). Austin explained that I'd have to come back for a training session where I would have to put in and take out contacts three times. We also reviewed my insurance benefits, and I was told what my out-of-pocket expenses would be ($10 copy for eye exam, $60 copy for contacts exam + training, and up to $300 coverage for contacts). Optical department was more flexible in scheduling, and I was able to come back the same week for training (which was harder than I thought). I had to go back a second time to finish my "training." Then I was given a few different trial sets to use for the next week or so, before I met with Dr. Gretz again to finalize my contacts prescription and order new contacts. When I met with Dr. Gretz, I complained of the contacts drying out my eyes, and she gave me even more contacts to try. This put me back a little bit in terms of ordering, but I appreciated having 5+ contacts to try (I have astigmatism + dry eyes so this was basically me being extra). Since it was close to the end of the year, I called to finalize my order and made a payment over the phone. Once your contacts (or glasses I assume) are ready, you get an email notification, and you can pick them up any time during their normal business hours. Thank you for reading my novel. But on a serious note, thanks to Rosenstein Vision Center for making the contacts journey not as scary (both in terms of ensuring that I do not poke my eyes out and for explaining/interpreting the insurance for me)! The ladies at the front desk had me checked in within record time. Because I had already completed my paperwork, things went smoothly. I was then ushered to a large, lovely seating area, where many other patients were waiting. The office is massive, containing several doctors, as well as a vision center to pick out eyewear and procedure rooms. My technician and doctor were absolutely wonderful. Initially, the tech took a thorough history and did some tests. She was very pleasant, moved with intention, but not rushed. She was communicative, but not chatty (IYKYK), and had me very impressed. I was well-handled and wondered what was left for anyone else to do. Lol When the doctor arrived, he was even more thorough than the technician. He double-checked her work, then began a discussion with me about my eyes and their health. He did some more evaluation and put me at ease. I remember thinking, "This place is amazing!" At the end, he gave me advice and then said, "That's it," with the most amazingly warm smile I had seen in a while. It was genuine and read like he really enjoyed his job. I mean, WOW. That did it for me, folks. I had already been impressed by the place, but the smile sold me on GO. I am a patient for life! Greensboro Ophthalmology is officially Kiesha Speech approved.
