If she finds something in your eye that doesn't sit well with her, she makes sure she's satisfied it's safe before she sends you on your way. The staff are all so friendly and helpful. The front desk, intake and even checkout, all seem happy to see you! Their communication vehicles include not just call in but also texting and email. The texting option works well even with scheduling an appointment. You really can't go wrong trying them out! The Personal details required far exceed that needed for a straightforward eye examination and testing. Recently my elder mother went here to get her eye exam. My mother is on a fixed income and had provide her insurance info ahead of the appointment (as expected). She arrives for her appointment and wasn't told until after her exam that she needed to pay. She wasn't told that her insurance didn't cover all of the cost at check in. I do not recommend this place especially for senior citizens. Mind you she didn't get her prescription. read more

I was happy with the care I received here. I needed an annual eye exam, new glasses, and an updated contact lens prescription. The appointment went very smoothly, with barely any waits. They are very good at assigning staff members to do the basic testing and questioning. Even when the doctor arrives, they have an assistant that documents everything on their behalf. Dr. Nakagawara is a fast-talking, witty doctor with a great sense of humor. She drops knowledge every now and then, without sounding condescending. For example, I didn't know that contacts will never be as clear as glasses, and that my colored contacts are thicker than my clear contacts, which explains why I sometimes feel dryness with the colored ones towards the end of the day. They have good quality glasses frames to choose from. I ended up splurging and going for a Tom Ford frame- no regrets! They look great on me and I'm looking forward to wearing them the next 2 years. read more

I am at a total loss. I went here and was sold bifocals I did not need. I also was told I needed a glaucoma test. At this point I decided to go to a specialist. My eye pressure is fine as is my reading vision. Very disappointed and out a lot of money. I tried to switch doctors within their service they didn't call me back. I was told I had to wait months when I did call back if I saw the doctor I was not happy with they would see me right away. Both prescriptions were incorrect. I went to another doctor. I also have no signs of glaucoma and did not need the test suggested to me. read more

I had a great experience here. Scheduling my vision exam was quite easy. The eye doctor did a thorough exam and was very friendly. I ordered a pair of really nice prescription sunglasses. They processed my insurance and had upfront pricing so I knew what my out of pocket cost would be. I came back to pick up my sunglasses and they made a couple adjustments for me. This was my first time going to an optometrist in 11 years (due to having LASIK) and I couldn't recommend BCVC enough. The staff was incredibly friendly and professional. Went in for an appointment with Dr Patel, which was fine. I felt like I was being rushed through with very little explanation of what was going on, but chalked it up to Covid, and that they wanted to make sure people weren't over exposed. I then worked with the person to pick frames out, and then waited two weeks to get glasses back. Immediately upon putting them on, I knew something was off, but it was a change to my prescription so I expected it to feel a little different and drove home with them on. Before even reaching my house, I had a massive headache and realized that there was a significant, and inconsistent distortion in my vision. whatever the "boost" was that they insisted I needed, (but refused to call a bifocal) was positioned too high for it to be usable, and I literally couldn't look more than a couple of degrees from center without my vision becoming horribly blurry. The glasses are clearly made incorrectly. The office suggested that I just try to wear them for a few days to see if my eyes would adjust. Why would I want my eyes to adjust to bad glasses? They then said that it might be that my eyes were just measured incorrectly and asked if I could come back in to get this corrected. I wasn't looking forward to taking another few hours out of a work day, but I agreed, and they said they would get back to me with a new appointment date. A week went by with no response, so I reached back out to them, and was told that they were overwhelmed, and would try to get me in with another doctor, but couldn't commit to a timeframe. I said that as fine, but that in the meantime I wanted to get these glasses refunded because I'd spent over $400 and couldn't even use them. They called me back and said they'd only give me a partial refund.... For a bad product that they sold me that I can't even use. I'll be contesting the charge with my bank, of course and I'll update my review later if they come to their senses (See update below), but this place is a mess. You're better off going somewhere else. Update: I called a few times until I reached the office manager, who explained that the reason for the partial refund was that they ordered special lenses, and were hoping to cover that cost. They wanted to try to schedule another appointment to try to "fix" that, potentially including a complete "re-do" of the testing and measurement process. I explained that I'd been trying to set that appointment up for a couple of weeks, and that this was just more time than I could commit to, and that I'd still be waiting several more weeks to potentially just be right back where I was. I suppose they agreed, because they agreed to refund the entire amount once I'm able to drop off the glasses. Hopefully doing that today or tomorrow, and will wrap up the review then. I'll tentatively add another star now, in the hope that I just drop the glasses off and get my money back. read more

I bought 2 pairs of glasses here in the summer which cost more than $1000, Yesterday, I went in looking to get one of the frames adjusted. The lady at the front desk immediately said they were all booked up so I had to leave the glasses for adjustment. She suggested they could get them close and then adjust further when I picked them up (more on that later). This the first time I have ever had to drop off glasses when just wanting an adjustment-usually I can just wait a few minutes until staff is available. By the way, there was no other customers in the store. Overall, I felt like there was a significant lack of customer focus. Then later in the day I went in to pick up my glasses, the same lady was there along with another lady. I said I was here to pick up my glasses and the other lady immediately said "Name?" in a slightly challenging voice. The first lady just handed me my glasses because she had dealt with me earler. When I asked about seeing if they needed adjustment, the other lady immediately said, "Well try them on the first and see" in a rather challenging way. I just smiled and went to the mirror. They looked OK but when I looked up, both were gone. Overall, I not only did not feel welcome or served, I felt unwelcome and challenged. Pretty much a total lack of customer service as if I was bothering them and they were going to make me pay by waiting and not helping me. Needless to say, I won't be returning which is a shame because the doctors and medical staff are good. But the reception staff has turned me off. Bye! read more

I been going to this practice for years and was seeing Dr. Esther Nakagawara. I had a confirmed appointment on 09-Sep-22 for an eye exam. The day of the eye exam about an hour or two before the appointment they sent me a text telling me that I was required to pay for their additional exam which would cost $80 out of pocket. In the past, this has always been optional and I have always declined it. This appointment they tried to force it on me to make extra money although it has nothing to do with a basic exam for glasses. I declined and they cancelled the appointment. I think asked to speak to the Office Manager. I spoke to someone named Erin who identified herself as a Supervision. Erin repeatedly refused to provide her last name. She is a white woman with blonde hair. She assured me the Office Manager would call me, but she never did. I then went up to the practice in person and Erin again refused to provide her last name and the Office Manager, Jackie Kotlarz had left for the day. I then went to another practice for my exam and then made an appointment back at Brier Creek Vision just to pick out some glasses and have the new prescription filled there. The appointment was confirmed on 13-Dec-22 with no issue for 16-Dec-22 at 1:45 pm. I received a call today (15-Dec-22) at 1:29 pm that they are cancelling the optical appointment and refuse to see me any further because I wouldn't pay for their $80 test. I then asked several times to speak to Jackie Kotlarz, Office Manager, but she refused to come to the phone. I was speaking to the receptionist at this time, but I could tell Erin, the "Supervisor" who would not provide her last name was standing right next to her because she kept asking her questions and told her that I wanted her last name. Please again note, that I have gone to this practice for years and never paid for this test, but all of a sudden it is an issue. This practice is extremely unprofessional and I will be escalating this further. . I felt this was partly racism because these are all white woman and the Office Manager refused to even speak with me. I would not recommend this office and I will be reporting them. read more

I visited the office a couple months ago and saw Dr. Esther Nakagawara. I needed a contact exam and a new supply of contacts. Overall, the visit was ok but I always wonder what other fees offices will charge to compensate for taking patients with insurance. Although I've been wearing contact lens for years, there was a fitting fee for the same brand I've been using. No explanation really would've been sufficient so I paid it - I just wish it didn't exist. Otherwise, it was a pretty good experience. read more

My son suffered a serious concussion while at college in his first year and after going around and around with specialists in Charlotte for almost a year with little improvement; a friend recommended Dr. Susan Durham. Wow! She prescribed glasses with a prism, and I think we finally see a light at the end of the tunnel! He still has a way to go, but this will definitely help. The office staff is amazing, every patient that arrived was acknowledged by first name as if they had been coming there for years. It was very welcoming from the get-go. The tests were very thorough. Aaron made Noah feel very comfortable while working with him. He explained what they were doing, in terms that Noah could understand. Alma is unlike anyone I have ever met, she was an extension of Dr. Durham, working side by side, knowing what she needed, you could see that they worked together well. Usha was also wonderful working with the schedules and insurances to get us set up with the appointments. I know I have missed a few people, and I apologize.... It had been a few years since I've had an eye exam and I figured it was about time to get my peepers checked. I called requesting an appointment for a new patient and they had one available within the week, which was fantastic. A receptionist emailed me the forms that I needed to complete and I was able to fill them out, scan them, and send them back to her. I really appreciated the ease of the new patient forms. I arrived a few minutes early to my appointment to ensure that I didn't have any paperwork. They made a copy of my insurance card, and got me started with the essential check-up stuff right on time. The retinal picture machine is a pretty helpful technology, it's a bummer that insurance doesn't usually cover it ($39 as of June 2015). From my retinal picture, I learned that I've got a freckle on my eye which likely isn't an issue but worth following up on. Definitely wouldn't have learned that without a retinal scan. They don't do the dreaded 'puff test' for eye pressure, but instead use this device that taps your eye softly and quickly about 5 times. I'm someone who is sensitive about my eyes, but the device worked like a charm with no pain or irritation. Dr. Patel was very patient and took time to explain everything she was doing, which I strongly enjoy. It's nice to have a doctor that can explain things to you in a simple manner, rather than someone who spends no time explaining at all or is too academic to be helpful. I got my eyes dilated and checked out some of the glasses they had available while I waited for the dilation to occur. I'm usually a Warby Parker glasses guy, but they had some impressive frames around the $200 price point. Overall I would highly recommend Brier Creek Vision Care for any eye related needs. They were prompt, helpful, and conveniently located for me. read more

Well, I was there two and half hours for an appointment. Eyes were dilated. Got a stern lecture from Dr. Patel about wearing contacts to sleep in despite the fact my previous eye doctor recommended the brand I was wearing to sleep in giving I work 24 hour shifts. I switched to the contacts she recommend and didn't have good luck. The prescription was also off as my eyes did not get "better" in one eye and in fact the original prescription I had, I had clearer vision. I called back to see about getting the original brand in my original prescription. Pending update of review after return call, I'd say I've had much better and less argumentative doctors elsewhere. I suffered from chronic migraines, headaches, neck, back and shoulder pain, double and blurred vision, fatigue, and major clumsiness. On top of this, I got a concussion July 2017 and my cognitive function was not returning and I was experiencing severe sensory flooding. I could not handle noises, crowds, light, or even a lot of touching. I went to see Dr. Susan Durham and was diagnosed with binocular dysfunction and post traumatic vision syndrome. She said I could have had the binocular dysfunction since my first concussion when I was 8 years old! This would explain a life time of migraines, headaches, neck, back and shoulder pain, fatigue and clumsiness. I took so weird tests including walking with some interesting glasses and several hundred dollars later, I had a new pair of blue lens classes. I just went back for my 3 month check up and I still have the binocular dysfunction but my post traumatic vision syndrome appears to be gone. Also, my migraines and headaches and my neck, back and shoulder pain have decreased. My double and blurred vision is gone. My sensory flooding has calmed down tremendously but I will not be attending any concerts any time soon. And the most interesting thing, my clumsiness is better. And those who know me, say I should wear a helmet, live in a bubble, it was bad but not anymore! This place is not cheap. It is an investment! Especially for me who has taken the "specialist tour" a couple times without significant reasons as to why I was having all these problems, it was well worth the money. On top of all of this, they are a group of caring individuals. Always polite and sincere, it is a warm and welcoming environment. They have a very nice office and Dr Durham is extremely professional and very qualified. She takes the time to explain what she is doing and doesn't make you wait. My recent appointment was at 8:30 in the morning and I was in an examination room on time and my examine was complete in about 1 hour. They are a full service Eye Care facility with an optometry department, but there is no high pressure to purchase your eye glasses or contacts from them. I highly recommend them read more
