This was a fun place to check out while we were in town! I can't believe it but I forgot to show my Yelp discount when I went to pay, even when I had it ready! It was my fault however when I mentioned it to the cashier she seemed very unaware of the Yelp 20% off check in. Either way the cold brew was interesting and something different. It would have been nice to have a bigger selection of pastries other than just the keto donut which was all I could see. I enjoyed my cold brew and the lemon poppy keto donut said was not bad. I am sure that people on the keto diet would be thrilled to have this option! read more

Been going to both the Coronado and Imperial Beach locations for a long time now. Trident and Better Buzz are by far my favorite local coffee places. Given the IB location you could definitely bring your bike, grab some coffee, go for a nice ride, then grab a beer and lunch at the brewery next door. Easily make a day out of it. When I'm at Trident I also pick up a can or two to enjoy at home. The community is lucky to have a place like this available to them. read more

We stumbled on this jewel while riding outer bikes on the Imperial Beach\Strand bike trails. I had the best flat white I've ever had. They have a excellent coffee and they are careful about the origin, wanting to make sure workers are treated fairly. I heard one of the managers talking about getting ready for a buying trip to Central America. We purchased a couple of their canned coffee for the road, and you can also order on- line. Check it out, it's an incredible concept and they're good people. read more

This is a cool spot. They specialize in nitro cold brewed coffees and roasted coffee beans to take home. I wanted a cappuccino but they do not make espressos, but they will warm up coffees they have available if you want it hot. I had a light roast, the Link in the Chain (Organic Ethiopia Yirgacheffe), which was light in the coffee flavor but offered subtle hints of chocolate and fruit. They don't steam milk so you have to use the little packages of half and half. You can enjoy some nitro cold brewed coffee on the spot or you can purchase canned varieties to enjoy at home. They offer Wi-Fi and some good seating inside. If you like cold brewed coffees, this place is worth checking out. read more

I'm neither a local nor a cyclist but I needed a snack and a latte midday Saturday in IB. I totally lucked into this place. My latte was great and the donut was, too. Lots of choices snackwise and drinkwise. Nice staff and service. There were a few other non-cyclists besides me and the vibe inside was very chill. Couldn't be a better location to stop and have a coffee after cycling around the Silver Strand or the Bayshore Bikeway. I was slightly skeptical when I saw they only offer cold brew, but after a few sips, it all disappeared. They have a cornucopia of cold brew concoctions, medium, dark and even special flavors, and you can even have them hot!(hot cold brew, not oxymoronic the in the least!). The customer experience is also friendly and fantastic, and they are veteran run! Love! Found this gem through a Yelp Elite event and dang, how have I not been here before? The service is incredible- so friendly and patient when explaining the menu. We ended up getting a Lavender Latte with collagen. So good! I love that they have so many add-in options, such as: MCT oil, Collagen, Adaptogen Mushroom, and functional ingredients. Also all of the pastries are KETO or vegan. You guys have to come check them out. A big plus, it's veteran owned! read more

Glad we were able to go try out the coffee here! It was well decorated, really nice ambiance - loved all the nautical theme, and the nautical coffee names! We had two choices - latte or espresso - and they had multiple choices for which milk to use. I do feel the flavor got lost in a bit of the bitterness of the coffee, and it didn't hit home like some do. The staff was kind and friendly! Omgomgomgomg!!!! I'm learning to do long distance outdoor cycling and so friend said this is their break spot along the strand. Ok, can we please just worship how *insanely* decadent and delicious the keto donuts are!?! I was expecting something dry, chalky and bland but these donuts makes me to neverrrr ever want to eat normal donuts ever!! My husband and I have been coming here for a long time (even throughout covid to help support). It's been a long time since we last visited because the drive is 30 minutes for us. Although, this morning we thought "why not?!" We typically get the El Capitan and Son of a sailer. Which we got this morning as well. Never experienced the lack of friendliness or lack of customer service here prior to this morning. But whomever was working this mornings shift left such a bad taste in my mouth that we will not be coming back. First of all who greets their customers with a "what do you want" and after I picked my option he doesn't even look at my husband and says "what else?" He also gave me an attitude for changing my order from a small to a large. Like excuse me? I'm sorry I'm upselling MYSELF for your business. This is a coffee shop. If you didn't know coffee in the morning is supposed to brighten ones day. If you aren't a coffee person or a morning person or simply not made for customer service then maybe you shouldn't work here. read more

Meet the Business Owner: Eric J.

Serving as a Naval Officer, Eric Johnson started brewing his own cold brew coffee during his final tour of duty in Iraq. He noticed how coffee and tea act as a bridge between cultural differences. All of the chaos of conflict would pause between him and village elders for a brief moment while enjoying a nice cup of coffee or tea together. Two cultures born a world apart were communicating on so many levels without saying a word- that was it! Eric had found his calling and thus set out to create Trident Coffee Roasters.

My husband got the chilaquiles, corn tamale, refried beans, eggs. My son had the carne asada plate, daughter had chilaquiles plate and my 7yr old had the kids breakfast. We all enjoyed our beverages; maya Chai, Hibiscus Aqua Fresca, tropical , and OJ. We were all extremely pleased with the flavor, quality, and quantity. The order to table was timely and the waiter was attentive and accommodating and patient (I switched up my order 3x.. I had a hard time choosing) We definitely will put this on our rotating breakfast spot to enjoy after a nice Sunday Service.

We tried the mazapán and Mexican mocha, they were both good. Again, i prefer the stronger coffee flavor so for me it was subtle but still good. The flavor of mazapán was there but again, subtle. Of course all I found was Starbucks close by and I truly hate Starbucks for they're so acidic and I like more of the mom and Pop shop. Man did I hit the jackpot! Not only is the Coffee fantastic with some great original recipes but this bad ass coffee shop is women run out of her apartment "hence the name". Now I get to go sit in less traffic with a smile on my face and a warm cuppa Joe in my hand Of course I had to order two different recipes. I got the cinnamon dolce and the rosemary iced latte. They are both perfectly made with the perfect amount of coffee to sugar ratio. She also had milk alternatives for me, so I got both with oat milk! Opting for the Midnight Vietnamese Coffee, I appreciated the thoughtful option of choosing between hot or cold milk--a small but significant detail in personalizing the experience. The coffee itself had a rich and balanced flavor, with the unique addition of MCT oil and charcoal powder complementing the espresso and condensed milk. However, the drink was served lukewarm (I opted for hot milk), which slightly diminished the overall enjoyment. While the quality of the coffee was commendable, the service left room for improvement. What an amazing find! So first things first this is their brewery and Roaster location. They specialize in nitro cold brew which has become my favorite way to drink coffee. If you're a Expresso coffee drinker who adds a ton of milk and sugar this may not be the place for you. But that's ok just walk 50 feet in any direction till you hit the coffee shop with a green sign. For me I actually like the taste of coffee and drink it black most times. One thing I've noticed is with cold brew is more favors of the coffees come through, it's less acidic and has more caffeine then drip coffee. They have over a dozen different coffees from all around the world with different roast profiles. Just love what they're doing here, plus it's a family owned and operated. They're directly sourcing their green coffees, roasting in house (love that) so many coffee shops I end up at get their beans roasted by a third party or some off sight location. The staff was super friendly and helpful. I ordered their flight option where I got to pick any four. Had an organic Ethiopian which was a light roast, it had this amazingly great blueberry taste. A dark roast Peruvian great flavor. Ambrotos which was a medium roast Brazilian with MCT oil was super creamy and smooth. Lastly I had their Mexican Chiapas, medium roast brewed with chocolate cocoa powder, cinnamon and orange peel was also a new favorite. As for the location it's self well it's really cool and and the view and walk around bike way village was beautiful. Trident Coffee is absolutely fantastic--both the Imperial Beach and Coronado locations. I haven't been to the PB spot yet, but I have zero doubt it matches the same great quality (because the others are so good). What really stands out is the coffee itself: it's low acidic and incredibly delicious. It's the kind of coffee you can actually enjoy without that harsh after-feel. I also love that they make it easy to stay "health-minded" without sacrificing taste. They offer functional add-ins like creatine, collagen, MCT, ashwagandha, and more. Plus, the coffee boxes with adaptogens and nootropics are such a clever idea--like everything is curated for wellness from the start. And let's talk baked goods--almost all of them are gluten-free and keto, which alone is enough to make us come back again and again. The options make it feel like you don't have to compromise. The staff at both locations are also truly wonderful: friendly, welcoming, and ultra helpful every time. You can tell they care about their customers. I discovered Trident Coffee while riding on the Bayshore Bikeway, and I am blown away by the quality of their beans and the deliciousness of their cold brew coffee. I highly recommend the "Son of a Son of a Sailor" (SSS) cold brew; it is truly exceptional. The flavor is bold and complex, with a smooth finish that leaves you wanting more. In addition to the delicious coffee, the service is top-notch. Jaryl, who helped me with my order, was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. He took the time to explain the different types of beans and brewing methods, and he helped me choose the perfect beans for my taste. Do you love cold brew on NITRO?!! They also can steam the coffees if you want it hot. You Definitely have to come to TRIDENT COFFEE, they have so many options of light roast, medium roast and dark roast coffees off the tap! They also have 3 teas...... ask about there off menu drinks as well :) it was my first time a week ago and i got a flight and BRITTANY was huge help, she explained all the coffees and teas on the menu she made it easy to pick and chose what ones i wanted to try in my flight she was very knowledge and didn't rush me. Just had the best mocha ever at Trident Coffee! The perfect mix of chocolate and espresso, super creamy and delicious. The barista really nailed it. What a great find!! Their protein (and gluten free) donuts can actually be a light meal because they are packed with protein and nutritious ingredients - and yet they taste great. They are filling and freeze well also. Sebastian has been wonderful in responding to questions and requests, and customer service at both locations is extraordinary. read more

Also worth noting the oat milk they use is planet oat, which isn't my preferred choice. Overall, solid coffee spot with solid beans. It added texture and actually gave that s'mores flavor instead of just tasting sugary. My only thing was that the actual latte base leaned a little watery, but the flavor overall still made it enjoyable. Presentation wise both drinks looked so good when they came out. The cold foam, toppings, everything just looked handcrafted and honestly way better quality than what you would expect from a mall coffee kiosk. This is definitely one of those spots where if I'm at Plaza Bonita, I'm probably stopping by for a drink before heading out.
