There are zero rails or ramps to enter the cabins. The entire facility lacks accessible toilets, bars to help you get up from or lower yourself onto the commode. I literally got stuck the first time I used the toilet, not being able to grab onto anything to help get up off of it. If you plan on bathing there you are out of luck. The shower in my cabin was literally 2 1/2' - 3' wide by 20" deep. No way a shower chair could fit in there, it was way too small. With only the shower head terminating from the wall, sans a hand held shower wand, it proved quite a difficult task to get clean. With zero bars to hold onto to get in, out of, or to steady oneself while within the shower. It was a quite scary ordeal worrying about slipping and falling. The doorways to the bedrooms and bathroom are not wide enough to get through with a walker or wheelchair. Within the bedrooms, there is very little clearance from the bed to the wall. Since I cannot climb stairs, the only place I could sleep was in the downstairs bedroom, or in the living room on a futon. I was left with the futon due to there being two of us with physical limitations. I needed two people to get the futon flat, suitable for sleeping. I looked in the pantry and the bedroom closet in vain, as there were not any sheets, pillows, or blankets available for the futon. The pathways around the resort are not paved so you will have to contend with gravel, compacted dirt, inclines, and grass that are not conducive and quite difficult to traverse with wheelchair, walker, etc.. The resort is quite beautiful and stunning. Other than the difficulties we had with the lack of amenities, we had a fabulous visit. It is too bad that the deficiencies limited what we could experience around the entire grounds.

So let me take another tack and make sure that this is the place for you. First off, Mountain Meadow Resort isn't for everyone. If you can't be unplugged and off the grid, this place isn't for you. Seriously, there is no wi-fi, your smartphones are only useful as cameras because there is no cell signal, and the generator that provides electricity only runs from 6:30am to 11pm. Bookings typically go from Saturday to Saturday so if the prospect of not being able to check your texts, voicemail, e-mail and social media for a week gives you the heebee jeebees, then this place is not for you. Second, this place is remote. The resort is most definitely in the WILDerness. In the four years that I've gone I've come across black bears and been within spitting distance of a rattle snake, rattle going off, coiling and ready to strike. The nearest medical facility is 2 hours away by car. And that's not counting the fact that you could be half a dozen miles into a hike away from the resort and your parked car when you get injured. If that seems a bit too off the beaten track for you, then this place is not for you. ...Still reading? Then you must be adequately intrigued as to why people go and keep coming back to this wonderful place. And if the you're not scared off then you will likely fall in love with this place as I have. Read on if you want my attempt to add information you might be hoping to gleam from reading these reviews. This is a family run camp. Decades ago a group of families bought the place and ran it together. Their children now run the resort and while you're there you'll likely see the next generation starting to help out as well. Staff all have a direct connection to the resort via family, being visitors in years past themselves when they were younger, or being recruited by one of the first two categories. What that means is that your initial visit feels like you're an interloper at a family reunion, but on repeated trips you begin to feel that you too are part of the family, because you truly are. That sentiment permeates through and is felt not just by my wife and me but by my kids as well. I would love it if my kids worked here when they're older and if I could spend extended time helping out after I retire, whenever that is. Days can be spent on hikes, strenuous or relaxing. Obviously the former will reward you with amazing views. Unlike, say Yosemite, you could do your whole hike and never come across another group. If you do, it certainly will only be a handful. There are lakes to swim in and vistas to take in. The resort is positioned so that you can make a day hike where others will often have to backpack in and out. Sometimes you'll be tempted to backpack yourself and maybe stay over a night or two but what always draws me back is the food - homemade and delicious. Dinners are amazing. Lastly, the kids love it because of the independence and being outdoors. The "kids dinner" before the "adult one" is as much a highlight for the parents as it is the kids. More importantly my tech savvy kids being raised in the heart of Silicon Valley have no qualms with Mountain Meadow being a "screen free" place. And that alone makes our annual trip worth it.

Room 10 in the tastefully restored midcentury motel was our choice because it offers arctic AC! Seriously, this small LG unit is quiet and effective! The two queen beds were perfect. We pushed them together to make a giant family bed for our two enormous beasts. Don't worry, we are seasoned travelers and brought king sheets to put on top for the dogs. The mattresses are memory foam! We love them as we have a tempurpedic at home. The train is far enough in the distant from this room that it's quite pleasant to hear the sound across the river. Make your coffee and stroll over to view Mount Shasta from the benches provided in the morning, but the really photo op is just after sunset when the mountain glows. Note, the pine tree sap will drip on your vehicle if you park in the designated spot for room 10. If you back in, it gets on the windshield. Nose first, not so much. We travel with windex and microfiber cloth, so we were prepared. What's nice is all the options for a stay at this resort. If you want a cabin with a hot tub it's available, or an Airstream, the have rows of them. It's a nice walk down to the botanical gardens and the river. This would be an ideal location for a group event. Many folks recommended coming back in the Fall, so hope to return again.

We've been going to railroad park resort since the 1990's and eating there every time we come through town - 2-3 times a year. They used to make a great steak, with a deep dark sauce with mashed potatoes and veggies. I recently ordered the steak - $58.00 - making it the most expensive entree in the area (including the high end places in Mccloud, etc) and it had no sear. was under cooked. Had no seasoning. No sauce. The potatoes were rubber and the veggies were gross. The pork chop was similarly under-cooked and had the same sides -so same feedback. I looked for a manager to talk to and couldn't find one. So I messaged them on facebook and they told me I could come by any time and talk to the cook. Where was the cook the night I was there? I was told there was no manager to talk to. I only eat their when vactioning and can't just pop in. I live 5 hours away. If they're going to raise their prices from $40 to $60 for a steak - they need to up their gave. Instead they dropped the ball. The food isn't worth it and they don't care.

We ordered a couple glasses of pinot noir with our dinner and when they arrived they were noticeably warm like 80-85 degrees like they had been roasting in the sun , not a pleasant room temp like they should be. We also ordered a large caesar salad that we all split and the lettuce was warm like it was sitting in a window soaking up the sun, plate was not chilled and even if it was it couldn't have cooled down hot lettuce, salad was light on dressing , the halved petite romaine was very bitter, i've purchased this lettuce at costco a couple times and stopped buying it because the petit romaine tends to be very bitter, i love the consistency of the smaller denser heads of lettuce but the bitterness is unpleasant .....hopefully the chef is tasting his food and can see what he thinks. My wife ordered the pasta with shrimp and loved it! My dad had the rib eye and said it was pretty good but maybe not 57$ good. The pasta dishes were 10/10 amazing , reasonably priced and generous in size , the warm wine and salad is an easy fix, it was a nice treat after a week of camping and cooking to not have to , so highly recommend giving them a try for dinner during your stay!! Mountain scenery was incredible from the campground!! The pool was a little crowded at times but we enjoyed a couple hours of pool time both days. I had this property recommended by a friend and decided to try it. The good things were, it was…read moreclean and they allow pets. The rooms all run along a wooden walkway facing the parking lot. I was notified there would be construction from 9 to 5 which wasn't a problem for me as I was arriving after 5 and leaving before 9. What was a problem was that the parking lot was roped off so you had to park on the outer edges rather than in front of the room, I was in 18. This was a bit of an issue for me as one of the reasons I booked was that just coming off of a knee replacement I wanted a room that I could park directly in front of. If they had disclosed this, I would have gone somewhere else. Secondly, the pillow situation was pretty horrible, old feather pillows which flattened down to nothingness, no support at all. The heating unit was one of those old wall units with a really loud fan, so couldn't keep that on. Hot and cold water difficult to get in shower, so either scald or lukewarm. there was no space to put items above sink on tiny shelf. I would not stay there again.
