How is this place still in business? For years this was a decent diner. No longer. Seems it was sold and new owners have run it into the ground. Place was empty. Shelves (usually filled with cereals fruit etc) empty. Rotating pie display empty. Tables empty. Bathrooms filthy. Now "cash only" no cards. They had an easy to miss sign on door. Seems like they have no merchant account, and are on COD with suppliers. Waitress (owner's 'niece') could get you nauseous--had multiple dangling nostril charms on chains hanging from inside her nose, not exactly appetizing from a food handler. We should've left, but we ordered grilled cheese sandwiches. Literally two slices of bread and one tiny slice of American cheese inside that didn't even cover the bread. No pickle. No chips. No nothin'. Two slices of toast and a mini-slice of cheese. If this joint is still open by the time you read this, run the other way. One star 'cuz you can't leave none. read more

Alone on Thanksgiving, so I ordered a turkey dinner and an open pastrami Reuben. Per menu on Uber Eats, turkey was supposed to come with mashed potatoes, vegetable, cranberry sauce and choice of ice cream or jello and choice of milk or cola. However there was no ice cream as a choice, just jello, milk or cola. Chose cola which I didn't receive. The "vegetable " was about 2 tablespoons of cut up red peppers. There were no mashed potatoes--just two pieces of white bread on bottom of container topped by gravy and then turkey. The "open faced Reuben " was not open faced. It was a sandwich with no cheese on it and I had asked for a side of thousand island dressing which I didn't get. They had no pastrami so subbed with corned beef. I took 2 bites of sandwich and realized the corned beef was on its way out--going bad. Yuck! I spent $40 and I should get a refund of at least $20! Haven't been back here in years. While some of the faces were new, the food is still the same. Makes me a little nostalgic. Everyone is always pleasant & have no problems with customizing orders. The layout hasn't changed at all. They have a genourous size dining room, along with a bar top & side booths. It seems the breakfast menu has been reduced & prices have increased a tad. I'll blame it on n covid. The price of everything has increased. I didn't mind too much. I'd like to see this place remain in business. Of course I came here with a large appetite for breakfast. While the French Toast wasn't actually stuffed they were scrumptious after I had to assemble the toppings. I wasn't really pleased about that. I guess food that makes you work will taste better. I was pleased that there were 3 thick slices. Other places will only serve 2. I was also pleased with the fat piece of sausage, instead of the standard 2 little links other places give. So either Management has been reading the reviews or new hires are in the spot because aside from some visual changes that could be made and upgraded here, I had an overall good experience. My waitress was on point from the moment I entered the restaurant. Greeted me, sat me down and before I could even sit down, she was already asking what I wanted to drink. I had a delicious Turkey and Cheese. omelette that was flooded with cheese. I tossed some salt and pepper on that bad boy and went to work without punching the clock! Tore that thing up and the eggs weren't overcooked and all dried out. Even the crispy grilled potatoes weren't over cooked! Just a fresh potato bite with great chew. The Bacon had a nice low sodium flare with a decent amount of crispiness. Very little fat at all and not crazy greasy. My Belgium Waffle was soft and the batter was sweet, which made for a nice overall bite with their third party syrup but this leaves us to why I arrived and why they received only 4 stars vs 5. I was here to review their pancakes. I did not like the taste. The batter had this flavor as if oil was poured straight into the batter. It was very off-putting and though they had a decent amount of fluff to them, it was not enough to carry these pancakes to the finish line. Hell, I was done with them before I even began! I recently visited this place, and I must say, it was a thoroughly disappointing experience. Despite the restaurant not being crowded, we waited over an hour just to get asked what we would like to drink When the waiters were bringing out the food to other people it looked unappetizing and poorly prepared. It was clear from the presentation and the quality has significantly declined. Years ago, this place was a goto during overnight, known for its service and dishes. However, it's evident that the restaurant is now under different management, and it's just not the same anymore. The entire experience from the long wait times to the good food was very disheartening. Given this recent visit, I will not be going back. It's unfortunate to see a once-great spot to go at night time by go downhill so drastically. Tips are given when satisfied and I can guarantee there was nothing satisfying about the food at all. I ordered decaf coffee which they don't have. I had water which tasted like chlorine. They recently updated their interior with new floors and booths giving the place a fresh look. Very good lunch and great service. It wasn't very busy so we're we're seated right away and our server was professional and attentive. He checked in often to see if we needed drinks, etc. I had a burger and she had an omelette. Both my French fries and her home fries were really good. Well done like we requested. I didn't leave here saying it was the best burger ever - but it was a good diner burger and not greasy at all. The food is your typical diner fare, and they have a really large menu. I typically go in the odd hours of the early morning or super late at night (being that it's a 24 hour joint) and it's usually pretty quiet. Service is always good, and folks there are genuinely quite nice. I like to pick a quiet booth and drink my coffee while I write, and this diner gives me plenty of space to do so. I usually go for the standard appetizers like some wings, or a quesadilla, but trust me when I say it's a large menu so you'll have a bit to choose from. We had a late lunch, staff was extremely helpful. The ambience was relaxed. Cool multicolored leds and lots of mirrors. Food gave a very home cooked meal feeling. The waffles were light and airy. Longing for the days when business owners understand what it means to operate a business. Especially when it comes to food service. Customer service, cleanliness, menu variety are my top 3. DIdn't happen at a place that use to be one of my favorites pre-Covid. I knew when I pulled into the nearly empty parking lot that something was very wrong. Any time of the day you could drive by or go inside and see the regulars. Nothing. No one. The once vibrant dessert case bursting with colorful baked assortments. GONE. Clearly the restaurant had changed hands. Upon sitting againt my better judgement, I was given a slimmed down lack-luster menu. Unappealing but I was trying to grab a quick bite before an appointment. Ordering the meatloaf with mashed potatoes was a ridiculous letdown. One, the previous owners following the high standards (in their heyday anyway), offered a full meal including a potato and vegetable. Bread meant a bread basket, not a mini parkerhouse roll that I had to beg seconds for. Mind you the food mediocre, the meatloaf was ok but looked and tasted to be a mix of several ground meats they found a hard time browning. They gave three slabs of it probably to cover up the fact that they couldn't figure out how to make mashed potatoes. These were grainy like they made them with cold water, no butter or seasoning. slopped in a small bowl. A vegetable side would have maybe softened the blow but you get either potato or veggie not both. Sub-standard. I asked for a rootbeer which the server is rubbing his face, touching his phone which quite literally he couldn't live without. He never asked how my food was, nor asked if I wanted a refill on the $2.99 rootbeer. He didn't care and this is the face of the restaurant. This is who these current owners value as someone who can follow through from greet to doggie bag. No sir! Unacceptable! By the way when I asked for me bread the server simply brought out another mini roll with 2 butters. Thankfully I wasn't charged for it. Overall I say avoid this restaurant like the plague that it has become on the downtown East Hartford commercial business area. You can do better at one of many restaurants. ANY OF THEM! When I received my order it wasnt secured at all, neither was my drink. The container was just handed to me. No bad or anything. There's only so much fun you can have an old-fashioned diner. Especially if the food isn't any good. Sometimes the food has been adequate, but last night wasn't the case; and my wife and I have been to this restaurant maybe a dozen times in the last 4 or 5 years. The BLT that I asked for, came without chips and came without a pickle, unceremoniously plopped down on a plate, overloaded with too much bacon and lettuce. (You would think that I would be pleased that there would be a lot there; but actually it makes it difficult to eat). My wife decided to order the meatloaf dinner, and frankly the two meat loaf slices, drowning in too much heavy gravy, tasted like dog food. There were no obvious onions and the texture was unappetizing. For the record, they never brought the rolls or the salads to the table, that were asked for. I know that sometimes I don't take pictures because I either forget or I'm just too lazy but in this case, there was nothing that I wanted to take pictures of. This is a place that's been around for a long time, and you know as well as I do, that sometimes the people in the kitchen don't do as good as other people in the kitchen might do. I arrived around 7:30 AM for breakfast, and was the only one there apart from the server who was on her phone and a sizable person who was passed out at the bar, head down on the counter. Some garbage and wrappers strewn across the floor, run down look and feel, and a mild grease odor. Certainly a place of former glory. In fairness, the breakfast was OK. Why did I stay? I'm not sure if the interior of Triple-A has had a face-lift over the past 30 years, but let's give them the benefit of the doubt and say they've had one. Today's menu was very frayed and worn out, but that might be a badge of honor indicative of a massive 24-hour diner that has been around for well over 30 years. Triple-A stacks up favorably with any New Jersey or Long Island Diner I've ever been to, serving everything from all day breakfast to burgers and sandwiches and fancy entrees, and decadent desserts. We made a lunch stop today for a chef salad and a breakfast platter. My Chef Salad ran $10.50 and was a very large plate of fresh salad with egg halves and 4 big pinwheels of ham, roast beef, cheese and turkey. No complaints here- it was a very good value. My wife ordered two eggs over easy with home fires, rye toast and Canadian bacon ($7.95). The eggs were cooked perfect, the potatoes were yummy and plentiful, and the Canadian bacon came in big thick slabs. Service was OK, nothing horrible and nothing outstanding. Our big brunch with coffee and soft drink refills ran a very budget friendly $23.50. The weirdest part of this review is that I first ate there thirty years ago! You have to know what to order. I've read negative reviews and I've also eaten there many times high closing my eyes and pointing at a random item on the menu. The fries never disappoint. The burgers are always clutch. Omelets are okay. Again, it's a diner. It's open 24/7 and they make everything. I went with my fiancé and her brother and his girlfriend. The food was decent but there were a couple things wrong. One order, the eggs came the wrong style - sunny side instead of scrambled. The most frustrating part, however, was that I order an open-faced sandwich topped with sirloin. When the waitress brought it out, it was just meat on a plate. The waitress, who was very nice and polite, assured me that the cook swore that an open-faced sandwich has no bread. Clearly, a sandwich should contain bread. Regardless, I will state that the waitress who served us was very nice and tried her hardest to figure out why my sandwich didn't come with bread. If it wasn't for the kindness of our waitress, we might not have stayed. Another person in our party also mentioned there were many flies in the bathroom.
