We came for the Christmas pop-up bar and magic show, our waitress said she didn't know what we were talking about.. that was a bit odd, we saw it on our way out. It looked like it wasn't open despite the Facebook event page saying it was. Our service was good throughout the dinner, the magician/mentalist I had seen at a previous Yelp event, he was outstanding once again. He performed at everyone's individual table. The restaurant was clean and offered different seating options. I ordered a pineapple, spritz, and the chicken sandwich with fries. The food was solid, the French fries were delicious. I didn't see a happy hour menu :/

I have often wondered why there aren't enough rooftop bars here in the area. High stakes was a good experience over on. The service is commendable, the food is acceptable and the ambience is definitely a breath of fresh air. Good place for drinks and food. They validate parking which otherwise can be a headache in the downtown area. There wasn't much clarity on who had the authority to validate the parking tickets, but they finally figured it out.

Met a few friends here for an after work kickback event and I was impressed with how nice the staff was when I entered the restaurant! We were greeted and sat at a table and within a few minutes we were greeted by a server. Our server was attentive and anything we asked for was brought to us right away. For food, we decided on the wings & Buffalo chicken dip. Totally forgot to snap a picture but i thought the wings were okay but a bit gummy for my taste and the Buffalo dip was pretty good but I didn't enjoy the chips that came with it! I ordered a specialty cocktail that was curated by the event host and my first drink that came out wasn't good however the young lady who was in charge of the bar at the event decided to re make my drink! The restaurant did have some specials for $3 but it was mostly canned drinks, like vodka waters and high noon which wasn't my vibe for this occasion. I love how gorgeous this restaurant is and the views were epic, we even caught the sunset! If you're looking for beautiful views and great service, I suggest you try this place out! I'll definitely be back.

We stopped in for a birthday celebration drink at the bar. The drinks where great. It was decorated for Christmas. The view from the rooftop bar was beautiful.

Surprisingly fabulous..? Came here on a whim for a birthday dinner and was shockingly incredible! Pros: - best service we have had in a while! All of the team was exceptional and so quick! - outdoor seating vibe was the best atmosphere - birthday surprise: glasses of champagne filled to the brim and a very very yummy dessert! Cons: - wish the steak and frites had tiny shoe string fries (but fries themselves were well seasoned and crispy!) Overall for a hotel restaurant this was wonderful. We both enjoyed our entire meal! Came on a Wednesday night and would come again!

We stopped here for brunch after checking into the Tempo hotel. Really cool roof top spot. The server was great, made good recommendations. We started with Deviled Eggs then had the Jefferson Street Breakfast the main. We also had espresso martinis from the bar. The food was delivered hot and the portion was size was good. Not to mention the view of the city is nice.

how cute- this bow is not actually on my head.

Considering the food, it was ok a little on the bland side for the tomato dish. The fries were very good, and so was the old fashioned bread pudding. The bread was like a giant cinnamon roll, and it was so soft and gooey. I really enjoyed the fantastic decorations and loved how detailed they were. As you can on the photos, even the skis had the name High Stakes printed on it. They even had pashminas and fur wraps on each dining chair. Very elegant, yet cozy and inviting.

Stunning views, great ambiance. We came for vibes and got a bottle of Sauv Blanc and a few sharables. Slower service but it was a bit busy. The food was tasty next time would need to try an entree. Portions were big so glad we shared.

The current menu. We had the shrimp cocktail, the deviled eggs, & chips and guac. They were terrible. Good luck with the rest of it.

First of all park on the street! Even if you get a ticket you'll feel less robbed than we did when we parked in the garage with no signage that states that you were going to get charged the full $42 because no one was on duty even though they have a ticket reader which marked our time (incorrectly because it didn't adjust with the time change) and when you call their customer service from the ticket booth they won't let you out until you pay the full fee and then they give you a number to call to discuss your "issue" with the office. I'll let you know how that goes... If you're going for the view, It's just ok. You're a block off Nulu on Market so you're missing the fun. no people watching and uninteresting buildings and limited sunset views. But if you just want a drink on a nice day and you don't mind yelling at each other over a television, there are couches and an open airy outdoor space. But if you're going for the food, don't. The online menus are incorrect. They changed the menu to an extremely limited very generic bar food menu. (See updated ones I posted) Super disappointing food. Guac and salsa were Costco-like. Chips stale. Shrimp cocktail super generic. And not very fresh. Deviled eggs were small and topped with fake bacon. This was March madness week and the tv had speakers far from the tv. So we couldn't (and didn't want to) watch but had no choice but to yell at each other over the sounds of basketball. When the ONE table who was watching it left, would have been nice to have it turned down. They didn't. I heard the brunches were nice and the food is a lot better. After this experience, I'm not willing to find out. Our waitress was kind and attentive and explained the menu was changed months ago. Too bad it was not mentioned online or here on Yelp. TL;DR: For a place that's seems so nice and has such great potential for being an amazing outdoor space it was just so disappointing to just have limited appetizers that weren't even good. I guess if you're just going to get drunk or you're already high, as apparently several patrons were because we could smell the marijuana in their vapes. Then maybe this food seems edible. And getting ripped off by the parking garage on the way out really topped off a less than stellar evening.

Great spot, fun vibe, and lots of potential long term once it's presumably through some growing pains in its early days. The menu has good variety (both food and cocktails). Some are outright hits (baked potato rolls are a must-try) others need a little something more (pork schnitzel was quite good at the core but needed a sauce of some kind, as the delectable potato puree didn't quite offset some dryness by itself). Similar comment on the cocktails...some true winners (brown butter old fashioned and all of the clever and fun long shots), and some that were a little less so. But, to be clear, worth exploring both menus. Love a rooftop spot, ambience is vibrant (I've only been in cooler months so haven't really gotten the open-air experience). Service is excellent, friendly, attentive, and helpful. Was a little disappointed to see a few chipped dishes--to be clear, nothing dangerous, and the kind of thing you'd see many places, I just don't expect it at a higher-end spot. On the whole, a very nice addition to the burgeoning NuLu scene!

I want to start by saying how fabulous Colleen was. She made us all feel very welcome and gave great suggestions. I will say the blistered tomatoes and ricotta was probably my favorite thing of all. I think the rest of the food was just so so but the beautiful view really helped create a beautiful ambiance. If you were staying in this hotel and wanted something convenient, I think it would be a great option, but I would not come out of my way to come here.

Alli C.

Wow! Ventured down to high stakes for a friends birthday and had a great experience. First off, our server Colleen was THE BOMB. All the best recommendations, super attentive, and open and honest and accepting of our very rowdy group. Some of the best service we've had in awhile! High Stakes is new and still working out their menu, but those loaded potato rolls and the corn bubblers were the most interesting and tasty food I've had in awhile! Those are MUST ORDER. Cant wait to come back and try more of the menu!

Robert P.

We had a great evening sitting on the rooftop patio enjoying a few drinks and dinner. Our server Tatiana was awesome and very attentive. This was our first dining experience at High Stakes and we will definitely be back!!

Everything was absolutely delicious, but the burnt ends appetizer was the standout--our waitress recommended it, and she was spot on. They were incredible! What made the experience even better was the outstanding service. Our waitress was so kind, patient, and calm with our young boys, which made our meal relaxing and enjoyable. The entire staff was welcoming and attentive, creating a warm, family-friendly atmosphere from the moment we walked in. The restaurant has a fun, inviting vibe that perfectly complements the amazing food. Between the exceptional service, great atmosphere, and unforgettable meal, The Eagle has earned a permanent spot on our list of must-stop places whenever we're passing through Louisville. But we walked away disappointed…read morebecause of a major service lapse, curious food seasonings and discrepancies between menu descriptions and actual dishes. We arrived mid-afternoon on a Friday. We had a choice between sitting inside or being seated at a picnic table on the covered deck. We were assigned a high-top table in the dining area past the bar, where a few guys were watching a soccer match. The brine-soaked fried chicken is Eagle's specialty, so we ordered it. I thought the chicken was good,. So per the menu for the three-piece fried chicken meal, you can only order either all white meat or all dark meat. Interestingly, the two people at our table that ordered white meat still got a drumstick with their meat. The last I checked, drumsticks were considered dark meat. For an appetizer, we ordered the hush puppies. They had a nice crunchy texture but were very spicy hot. We also ordered the spoonbread. This was my favorite dish of the day. It was served warm, had a great texture and a light maple flavor. With our meals, we could get two sides. We requested the collard greens, green beans, fries, grits and mac & cheese. Only the mac & cheese was good. The collard greens were way salty and the green beans had odd and unexpected seasonings. Our dining companion was put out, and understandably so, that the menu said the grits came with white cheddar cheese. But instead, though the grits maybe had cheese, they were also loaded with loads of diced jalapeno. They were so over the top spicy, none of us could eat the grits. The fries were strongly seasoned with oregano. WTF? Our entrees came with biscuits. The biscuits were tasty, but unfortunately, because they contained too much shortening, fell apart when buttering them. And that leads up to the service lapse. After we received our check, our server completely disappeared. We waited a half hour for her to re-appear, gave up and asked another server to cash us out. He disappeared and we waited some more. Finally the red-headed server re-appeared and breezily explained she had been out on the deck the whole time. No apology or anything.

There are also picnic tables out front. You get a faint whiff of the grill/smoker upon entering. Kylie was our bartender and she was fabulous - knowledgeable, friendly, and answered all of our questions with patience. Wife ordered a mango margarita and doesn't like a lot of tequila, so Kylie went half and gave her a shot on the side in case she wanted to add more. It was wonderful. I had a couple of beers. We started with the fried mushrooms, which aren't what you would expect. It's two large portobellos cut into chunks, battered, fried, and served with sun-dried tomato mayo. They were great. I then ordered a duck taco, brisket taco, and a side of Grippo Fries with smoked mayo. I'd never tried duck but that taco was smack-a-lackin'. The brisket taco was also good, and the fries were fantastic - sweet and spicy, fresh cut, and crispy. Wife ordered a pork belly slider and truffle fries. She enjoyed the slider but didn't care for the fries - just not her thing. The portions here are large. A side of fries will feed three people. We took a hefty portion of them home, as well as some of the mushrooms. We could've sat there at the bar and spent 3 hours socializing and enjoying a smattering of cocktails - love the setting. Look forward to going back and trying one of the burgers at some point.

This place is quaint, nice location (on a corner ) decent seating, not a big outdoor dining area, the bar is long and has the memories of the old day saloon. Now the food; terribly good! Menu isn't extensive but good items and variety that will satisfy anyone's appetite. It was Father's Day but as soon as it opened they were quickly filled with patrons and people kept coming; even waiting to get in. The fries in duck fat were awesome. Since so many baskets of fries like this for a long time. The smoked wings are great, meaty and savory. I had the pork belly tacos; my only disappointment was you only get 2 per order. The fine combination of ingredients were splendid and the pork belly so tender. My wife had the bbq pork sandwich on pretzel bun. Very good tasting and this was with no bbq sauce on it. If you're in the area, do yourself a a favor and stop in. I can't wait to go back ( as we live in southern Indiana) so might be a bit but definitely want to try a few other items.

We dropped in on Oaks night and even though it was pretty busy we were able to grab two seats at the bar. The only downfall of this was the time of day and the position of the Sun blaring through the garage door windows blasting me in the face however that cannot be helped or avoided, just a heads up for anyone who is super sensitive to the sun and arrives around sunset. I started with a Sunset Spritz and looked over the menu, there are so many great options to choose from and I was really torn on what to get but decided on the blackened Mahi Mahi sandwich (you can also get grilled or fried, but the bartender recommended blackened) and an order of sweet potato fries. The fries come with a side of a smoky pineapple chutney of some sort and even though I'm not a huge fan of anything that's really smoky it was absolutely delicious and a great combo. Seriously 10/10 recommend. The sandwich was also fire! I am extremely picky about sea food, especially since I used to live near the cost so it was always fresh and it definitely did not disappoint. I was so full when we left lol My husband got the beef sliders as his entrée with a side of regular fries tossed in roasted garlic pepper. I tried them and they were just OK. The sweet potato fries are definitely where it's at! And Lastly, a ground beef loaded nacho. The chicken was extremely dry and the nachos were so greasy. I know, we went to a burger place and nobody ordered a burger... maybe a bad move on our part. Also, every small sauce was $1 and you receive about an ounce. I was a bit surprised when I got the bill and none of the chicken came with any sauce. In all, It's cute enough and in a great location. I don't know if this is a thing they do at Doc Crow's, but in my opinion the bartender excessively kept asking me what I wanted even while I was still looking at the menu. My top-tier chum who literally went to the school of hospitality and I spent most of the afternoon on a bourbon tour and a post-tour distillery so...food was needed. And quickly. In our mild defense, we didn't really know how the day was going to go or when we were actually going to have dinner, which made it a little tougher to pre-plan, but no research went into this at all and we paid for it. We wrapped up our bourbon adventures at the Angel's Envy distillery probably five or six blocks from here. Instead of being grownups and doing at least a quick/impromptu recon for spots, we literally just walked outside and down W Main St until we hit something. And we hit this, which was right on the edge of the main tourist area, pretty much Louisville's equivalent of the Times Square/MSG area. And as someone who works and used to live in NYC, you'd have to do a lot of convincing to get me to eat in that particular area - it's overpriced and the food/service just tends to not be very good, which makes you wonder what the appeal is for tourists beyond the convenience. But regardless, it's always struck me as an odd way for a tourism spot to put its best foot forward (or not). Doc Crow's is enormous, and when we were brought further into the restaurant to our table, I think we literally walked through three or four large rooms and navigated through multiple passageways. If you told me this place took up an entire city block or close to it, I'd believe you. Beyond the size/scope, there's nothing really distinctive that separates it from the myriad of other restaurants you'd expect to see catering to out-of-towners. It was the Friday evening of Memorial Day Weekend, so a place that I suspect is usually pretty busy was even busier and louder than that. Maybe not the greatest recipe after a bourbon tour, but who can say. On the app front, we got the Crispy Salmon Bites, which were fine. Not an item I typically see on a menu, even one with more of a seafood bent. I thought the cornmeal/panko breading was the right call; I'm a big catfish aficionado, so I'm of the opinion that cornmeal is underutilized, at least in the Northeast where I come from. Otherwise, nothing really mind-blowing there; probably would have made sense for it to be a different type of fish given the prep (I think salmon is best raw in a sushi roll or grilled), but it could have been worse. I don't think a ton of thought went into this on my end, but I went with the full rack BBQ ribs, along with a side of mac n' cheese. Again, okay, though not as flavorful as I would have hoped and I thought the ribs were on the dry side. Not their fault, but I always regret getting the full rack in hindsight because ribs have a deceptively significant amount of meat on the bones and a half rack is a very decent portion by itself; I am a work in progress just like everyone else. The mac n' cheese was also pretty dry, which I think you can see pretty obviously in the accompanying picture. Tasted and felt reheated at least once or twice. The service was pretty efficient given how busy it was, but our waiter was just on robotic autopilot. Not remotely personable and everything I said to him was responded to with, "For sure, for sure." Maybe he was having a rough night to start the holiday weekend, but it felt like he was just going through the motions and just checking off some boxes there. I went into this already predisposed to not like the generic tourist trap places, so grain of salt. But my recommendation if you have the time/bandwidth (now that I'm a cagey Louisville vet) is to bypass this area if you can and find something tastier and more interesting in the Highlands neighborhood. That's where the real ones are.
