The food is okay but it's overpriced and not as good compared to some of the other places. What really brings this place down are the staff. Not very cordial especially the ladies. Im a huge deli sandwich fan. Been here a grand total of four times (not in La Mesa area often) but have been super impressed everytime. I had breakfast here Saturday morning before going on a walk. I ordered their Trolly Stop Deli breakfast sandwich on wheat and I cup of coffee. The sandwich was good but it had a few draw backs. The bread was only toasted on one side and the bacon was not crispy. It was well stuffed (see photo) with eggs, 3 eggs in fact, that were fluffy and cooked through properly. The coffee was average on the weaker side. The place was nice and clean and the employees were, how can I put it, perhaps a little on indifferent side. To be more direct, I did not feel like a valued customer, but I did have a descent sandwich. I really wanted to give this place a 4 star rating but the mishap on the bread, bacon, and weak coffee, I have to say a 3.5 rating would be appropriate. read more

OMG, I can't say enough how scrumptious the pasta salad is... I could just eat it all day! I've had a sandwich here, it was okay, so I'm not as sad to see that they've downgraded their meats since I only come here for the pasta salad. Came here because I was in the mood for something light. I saw that this place had great reviews and wanted to try their best sandwich. I ordered the Club Sandwich with avocado. The sandwich came with this amazing pasta with ranch and parmesan. The sandwich was just as phenomenal. With a Sobe drink it ended up being around $10. Love this place! I always get the pastrami sandwich and my husband always gets the killer club. My 18 month old is the PICKIEST eater on earth but he looooves their pasta salad. I actually bought a jar of the dressing and the employees told me to dip veggies in it for my son and it worked! This place makes you feel welcomed and at home. Definitely my go to sandwich spot! I've come to this sandwich shop since I was in high school, and it's honestly a La Mesa staple for me... but lately every time I come in, I feel like more and more of a nuisance.. This sandwich shop caters to a lot of regulars to which I'm not really I come in periodically but I've been coming long enough to see a multitude of people that Have worked for the small business. the sandwich makers are usually really nice and honestly most of the time everyone really is. Lately I placed my order and most of the time when I get home somethings missing or I feel like an inconvenience for asking for some thing, the food is good but at this rate I have paid for products over three times that haven't made it in my bag .... it's a small thing but at the same time at reaffirms the feeling that I'm not as important as a regular customer. read more

Not sure about what people are saying about the bad attitude of staff. I ALWAYS find the staff friendly and accommodating. Quality meats, cheeses, great breads and many choices make this little place far better than the other place nearby. Their cold pasta salad is tasty without too much sodium. And it is cooked to perfection (the pasta). Sure it takes time. Good things always do. And they have tons of to go orders called in so take your place in line (or call in ahead of time if you are in a hurry). The first wrap my wife got had tomatoes (she doesn't like tomatoes) and she took it to them and they replaced it in no time without complaint. The cookies they have there are some of the most amazing cookies my wife and I have ever had. The meat and cheese were (seemingly) purchased straight from the deli and they slice it in front of you. The food here is delicious, however my experience was spoiled by the poor customer service. I grew up in San Diego and loved eating here almost twice a month! After moving away, i made a point to visit when i came back to San Diego. Unfortunately this visit was not the same. As i placed my order the cashier seemed bothered as he asked me my option, and snapped at me when i asked a question for clarification. The staff was all younger males and they seemed to be unhappy about being there it was evident by the vibe in the room and It reflected in their work, my food wasn't great. I didn't receive utensils with my order, when i walked in to ask for a set, someone from behind the counter, without looking at me, or addressing me, barked "there are utensils in the bag" as if i wasn't intelligent enough to look for them first. Over all the experience was so poor i won't be coming back, i would prefer to remember my experiences from the good old days. I would suggest hiring people who understand customer service. read more

So. The deli food here is pretty top notch! I haven't really had a bad sandwich here and the pasta is great, however, my sister came to visit (she is a great cook) and thought the pasta needed some extra seasoning though. So, mostly this review is for the staff. One particular person who is always there. Today came in with my sister who is visiting. Had to request a table be wiped off. The lady who I asked seemed to be bothered that I asked and offered an excuse "we've been pretty busy" prior to wiping the table. And it's not so much the situation of the dirty table but her demeanor, which seemed to me and my sister as if we were bothering her. Even though by this time, the place seemed not so busy. Which is also how she seems normally even behind the counter. I have seen her be nicer to people who must come in everyday or quite often. With others she doesn't smile, she doesn't seem like she is happy that you are coming in. While I was in the Deli writing this, she walked out and the owner came out to deliver food. Now, mind you - when he is in the back working - I only hear her yelling out for people to come to pick up their food. Even if they are all the way outside. She will not leave that counter to take it to them. I thought this odd at another visit and now know it is, considering the proprietor does it. Anyway - he came out and delivered food and was chatting with many of the people in the area. I then decided to ask him about her - he said she hadn't been there too long, he knew her attitude was sub-par BUT it was also hard to find good workers. Well, I reminded him, that just because someone isnt physically stealing from you and you catch them, does not mean that someone else isn't harming your business in another way. I don't go in here as much as I think I would if this person (and I totally forgot her name as it was over a week ago that this conversation took place) 1. was either friendlier 2.didn't work there or 3. wasn't the "face" of his business when I did go in. Again, no complaints about the food. I usually take mine to go and enjoy but this time the experience my sister and I had was worth a sit-down and write a review type. read more
