Wow!! First time here and I'm in love! This was the best hands down chicken salad I've had. It had such a unique taste I can't describe but it was extremely delicious. The pasta salad was also excellent and I learned they make their own in house. Extremely delicious meal! I'll try a sandwich next time!

This is the Club on sourdough. Who doesn't like bacon? Pasta salad on the side. Yummy cookies too.

We've been coming to trolley stop over 10 years they make the best pasta salad in San Diego, we stopped by yesterday for lunch and split a sandwich and pasta salad between me and my husband the portions are so big it fed us both we were stuffed. Highly recommend this deli you have to try their pasta salad

The blaring background music is all about "my Bit$h, your Bit*h, dat Bit$ch all this while eating. No escape. Both the soup (very watery) and the Mac salad meh. were below expectations. Portion on the R.B., less than generous, I made one half bigger and threw away the other half of the bread. They call your name and you go get your food at the counter. I was the only customer. Why bother tipping. I should have gone across the street to the farmer's Rest. Subway, right next door, gives this place a real run for their money, as I returned to my car I noticed Subway was way busy. Now I understand why.

Chicken Italiano - one sad slice of chicken

Sandwich wasn't bad, but it only had one slice of chicken. Super disappointed to pay for a chicken breast sandwich ( Italiano) and only get one slice of meat. It just felt like all bread no meat. What deli only puts one slice of meat in their sandwiches?

Trolley Stop Deli perfectly encapsulates many of the best attributes of downtown La Mesa: it encapsulates the absolute best of what local businesses offer. This speaks less to the priorities of the city in deliberately supporting local business, and more perfectly speaks to how incredible the food, service, and charm truly are. The fact that it not only staves off a nearby chain business selling similar items but absolutely thrives whereas in many other places the soulless chain establishment would have forced the local eatery to close its doors, further speaks to its excellence. This is a place I have been wanting to try for a while but hadn't gotten around to until recently. When I came in, I at once felt the local charm. The place has a quaint but significant ambience: it connects itself to the community with a mural depicting the nearby trolley stop, along with some vintage knickknacks that don't clutter but add to its simple but effective charm. The service was extremely friendly. Even during the apparent lunch rush-hour, they were incredibly kind. Not only that, they were empathetic to my unfortunate time restrictions and were extremely prompt. The food far exceeded my expectations, though. Not only was the price reasonable, the food was incredible! They were extremely generous with portions, all the ingredients were absolutely fresh that few other places in recent memory have come even close to achieving, and it was absolutely delicious. The wrap was exceedingly fresh. Even hours after having had my food, I still crave it. All of the flavors balanced each other out. I cannot emphasize the freshness enough. The steak soup was warm, party, and the meat was incredibly tender. I was more than won over from my experience here. I will definitely be returning.

Ordered for pickup and they game me the wrong order. This isn't the first time it has happened. Paid almost $20 for this

If you're hungry, these sandwiches will not disappoint. The only miss for me was their BBQ Chicken Sandwich. [Grilled chicken breast, sweet barbecue sauce, melted provolone cheese] I was expecting bold, smoky BBQ flavor, but it was surprisingly sugary sweet and didn't stand out from an average bbq chicken sandwich. It wasn't bad, just only memorable because it was southern sweet tea sweet and not as tasty as the other items.2/5 stars The Down side.. Ordering time and Price $$ & BBQ Chicken Sauce. Order-ahead ,way ahead because even though its a great sandwich ,we ordered 6 total and we wound up waiting up to 1 hr 10 minutes for my order quoted at 30 minutes for pickup we stood by the counter for 30 mins still waiting for the food to be done after giving the 43 minutes before we even arrived for the pickup. Gourmet prices for a 8 inch sub, and that BBQ chicken sandwich take away 2 stars for total experience. THE LIQUOR STORE The attached liquor store was an amazing addition with an impressive selection that honestly could make BevMo blush. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and eager to help. I met Chilean aka Chillin and he had many suggestions and nearly everything I was looking for--except my favorite Sandeman ,10-year 20-year or 40-Year Tawny Port or Sandeman White Port. No worries though, because the tequila, whiskey and Gin I wanted that evening were well stocked and easy to find, and well priced. 4/5 stars for no Sandeman Product in the entire store. IAfter reading about 30 5 star reviews of this place wanted to give this location 5 stars ...... so here's goes. Overall, Cheers Deli is well worth the visit for its incredible sandwich variety ,outstanding liquor selection and genuinely welcoming staff. I'll definitely be back for round 2 before the summer is over.--4/5 stars

I'm a little heartbroken about this because I had a 5-star review drafted up for this place that…read moreread: "Grove Grinder is the GOAT of neighborhood sandwich shops. Over the years that I've been coming here, I've been pleasantly surprised to find that the quality, portion size, and price point has kept pace with inflation and remains the best sandwich option in East County." I'm certainly not the longest-running customer of this spot, but I have been coming to Grove Grinder ever since I moved to the area four years ago. I kept coming back, wrote rave reviews in San Diego food-related social media groups and threads, bugged food influencers about them, and sent many of my friends and family their direction because I was that big of a fan. My husband and I have taken these sandwiches on roadtrips and plane rides, grabbed them in the middle of household chores, and picked them up for each other when the other is too tired or sick to cook. The reason why I'm ultimately knocking this review back and heavily questioning whether I should return has to do with a disappointing experience from my last visit with my husband that we now think was part of a larger pattern. The past couple of times we saw this person at the register, we used my name for the order. This time, though, my husband gave his name instead and the person at the register gave him some attitude about it and asked "You're *really* going with that?" I don't understand what their problem was with his name, but both the person in the front and the staff in the back refused to use it. They called out everyone else's names (and they usually call out mine when I order) and we noticed that our sandwiches were looking skimpy compared to how stacked we know they can come. My husband uses a nickname that might not be the name he was given at birth, but is a name he has used for over 20 years and might as well be his "real," name. We don't want to make assumptions, but most of the staff has always been at least a little cold towards us at best, slightly rude at worst, and even though this experience might seem relatively small to some, it's ultimately the straw that broke the camel's back. We suspect that their distaste for us might be politically motivated. We know it can't be personal because we've been nothing but polite. It sucks, but it seems to be that if they perceive you to not be "their people," your money isn't as green at their establishment, even if it spends all the same. I loved this place and felt lucky that they're close to my house, but feeling disrespected and like the staff are trying to fire us as customers is enough motivation to take our business elsewhere.

I had to tell the girl multiple times while she's busy cutting avocados instead of just taking a minute to say, can you give me a second and having me repeat myself! And then I told her after she asked, anything else, I said, can I just can I get pepper? She gives me salt and I look at her and I said I didn't want salt. She said, do you want me to take it off? How are you supposed to take salt off a sandwich when one you cannot see it? Instead of just listening like when I'm speaking to you your too busy doing other things because you wanna be quick. You put salt on the sandwich when I asked for pepper. Those are not the same things. Their employees need to do a better job at focusing on what the customer is saying, versus doing 20 other things. I don't care about you taking longer to make my sandwich. What I care about is me not having to repeat myself three times because you are not listening. She asked me multiple times too. If I wanted anything else needed anything else? Well, I can't even get you to put pepper on my sandwich. And you expect me to believe that you're going to make my order correctly. They were running two back-to-school sandwich specials with one for $10.99 and another for $16.99. Personally, almost $17-$20 for a sandwich didn't really feel like much of a special. The service was definitely the highlight of my visit. The cashier was incredibly friendly, offered great recommendations, and the woman working behind the deli counter was just as welcoming. I ordered the: *Jerk Turkey Sandwich: you can choose from white, wheat, sourdough, a roll, or an onion roll for an additional $3. I went with white bread. I was expecting more of a deli-style hoagie or Subway-style sandwich, but it ended up being served on two slices of sandwich bread. It tasted good, but it honestly reminded me of something I could easily make at home. There just wasn't much of a wow factor. The sandwich came with pickle spears and your choice of macaroni salad, potato salad, or another deli side. The side portion was fairly small, a couple of bites worth, but the macaroni salad was great. My total came to nearly $15, which felt pretty expensive for a sandwich on sliced bread and a small side. While I really appreciated the friendly service and enjoyed the food, I didn't think it offered enough value for the price. Overall, it was a decent lunch, but not memorable enough to make me want to return.
