I've been coming here since I was a little kid. This place is old school, and if it's one thing they do right it's a classic hot dog, white bun, pork/beef mix, with an accoutrement of toppings to please. Wash it down with a pink lemonade with crushed ice. Bam! Go for the signature dogs such as the Wrighstville, North Carolina, nuclear, or surfer, just some of my faves. More recent additions such as the Chicago are the bomb too. My mouth is just watering as I write this review, subsequently waiting for tacos in Portland, OR. I really do love the Trolley Stop and make it a point to visit each time we visit Wrightsville Beach. Hubby and I visited for lunch on Saturday 6/13 after hanging out at the beach for a bit. I ordered one Chicago Dog and my usual Wrightsville Dog, which I believe has 'secret sauce', mustard and relish. So. Good. Usually this place is packed when we go, but we were the first in line this go round. I love their hot dogs because they are so unique and the service is also fast and friendly. I was back in Wrightsville Beach for Memorial Day weekend so it is a no brainer that I needed to hit up a college favorite--Trolly Stop. It is cash only so keep that in mind but dogs are $3 so you can probably scrounge up the change. I got the Mexican dog with salsa, jalapenos, and cheese. I believe some other toppings were involved but I can't remember them. You can choose from turkey dog, all beef, standard dog or veggie. They have toppings to please everyone. What a great place. A little bit of a wait until you get inside to the air conditioning but they have a great selection of toppings and kinds of hot dogs. I had the Chicago, Wrightsville, and chili cheese Trolly Stop Dogs and I had to try the Burger Dog. Everything was great and despite being in the expensive area it was only $2.50 per dog. I have been a customer of Trolley stop at Wrightsville Beach for over 20 years. It is still the same as it was when I was a kid. Trolley Stop has the best chili cheese hot dog. I have had some good chili cheese hotdogs in Ohio at Skyline and Gold Star but Trolley Stop is better. read more

This was a family favorite since the 70's, and we would even rent houses based on proximity to Trolly Stop for our daily lunch treat. The hot dogs were high quality and the chili was excellent. We were so excited to come back, but it was a huge disappointment. Buns are still nice and soft, but the hot dogs were not good quality and the chili was terrible. Standard chip choices and some good cookies, but if hot dogs are the only thing you make, they should be outstanding. We will not be coming back. Ever. read more

Mine was ATW (All The Way) because it is fair way for me to test hot dog quality all over the places I have been visiting to. For services... pretty fast and getting my order within 5 minutes. Lots of awesome here. Of course I've been making hotdogs piled with leftovers since I was a kid, so this place is like my dream business. Since they've been around for 30 years in NC (and I'm 34) it is like an unfulfilled destiny to pile slaws, cheeses, chili, pickles, onions, jalapeno, bacon bits, deli mustard, kraut or anything you can get your hands onto a dog. 4 types of dogs (vegetarian, beef, beef and pork, fat free) too make the combos exponentially exciting. After 5-8 hours on the beach screwing around, drinking beers, getting suburned....nothing is better than a 3-4 pm stroll down to grab a handful of dogs for your friends and some cold drinks to revive your senses. Of course thats this Wrightsville location but they are downtown (open till 3am), Carolina Beach, Southport...all over the area. I've had dogs all over the world but this is a top 3 atleast, if not #1. Steves Snappin in Denver and Yesterdog in Grand Rapids are others that come to mind... read more

Ordered an all beef hot dog (gluten free) and nachos for $6.50. Hot dog was extremely small, it was drowned by the bun and sauce and the nacho cheese sauce was thick and cold.
