I've never met a hotdog I didn't like, ha, and this place did not dissappoint. 1st my boyfriend ordered one: Sabrett with chili sauce and onions. I didn't get one at first but took a bite of his and went back in to order one. I tried a fat free with jalepenos, chili sauce and onions. Both were delicious and I think I could easily eat 3 because I literally vacuumed it down in about 30 seconds. It's take-away only and it looks like the line gets crazy but when we were there, we just walked right in and got our hotdogs. We were staying in Wrightsville Beach for the weekend and decided that hot dogs sounded like a good option for lunch as a walk from the beach. Trolley Stop seemed like it would be inexpensive and decent enough for lunch. It was very convenient from our hotel, but with 4 stars on Yelp, I expected more. The hot dogs themselves were what you would get at a gas station or ballpark - boiled, not all beef, and on a soggy bun. The toppings were good but weren't good enough to compensate for the lackluster dogs. My wife and son like their hot dogs plain, so they took a few bites and didn't eat the rest. We ended up buying french fries from the place next door instead. Overall, it didn't end up being a very inexpensive or filling lunch. read more

The guy who owns the place is a local legend and hooked up many a free dog when I was working at the place next door. All the people working there have been pretty cool but it seems like a new crew every year. Good prices, especially for beach food and I never really got the appeal of the cold dog, but I guess it is unique and they have more kinds of dogs available than I ever thought possible prior to going there. Such a fun place to stop for a quick lunch! All hotdogs are $3.75 and they have a ton of different varieties to choose from, including: all beef, beef and pork, turkey, and veggie. Lots of benches outside to sit and bathrooms near by. I'd recommend getting two hotdogs. read more

OK To say I love Trolly Stop, is an understatement! It has been a staple of my diet from as far back as I can remember! It is the first and last place I hit when I'm in town! Where to start? Most people think the only way to get a proper hot dog is either from a vendor in NYC or at a game! Luckily this is not the case at all! Trolly Stop blows those out of the water! If you go in the summer expect a line, and it is walk in and out type place, there is no seating inside, so you'll have to take your food outside and sit at one of the benches located outside on the sidewalk. But really that only add to the charm that is the one, the only "Original Trolly Stop!" During the summer, I'll admit it, I usually go to the either the one Downtown ILM or off College, because I m not big on lines, but if I have to, it is well worth the wait. And for those of you who either veggie heads, or hot the hot-dog type, they do have a few other options (but Hot Dogs is really why you go!) And if you're a pink lemonade fan, their rocks! The Trolly Stop is one of my favorite places, and I don't just mean one of my favorite places at Wrightsville Beach. They are one of my favorite places EVER! I've been coming here since I was a child, and it hasn't changed much over the years, which is a big plus, as the hot dogs are just as good now as they were then. They have a simple menu, friendly service, and really great hot dogs. What more can you want? Yes, they are cash only, but their prices are really reasonable, so you shouldn't have any trouble scrounging up the cash for a hot dog or two. My favorite dog is the North Carolina dog - mustard, some very tasty chili, and delicious cole slaw top what I think is the perfect hot dog. Simple, but delicious. I have never been here when there wasn't a line, but the line always seems to move pretty quickly and the wait is never too long. read more

Overall solid restaurant but sadly mid. Lots of other stores clear. The food is alright but nothing to write home about. And it's not worth the people. Overall the atmosphere was ok but the store is small and cramped and I felt bored just being there. There are no fries which made me mad. Also it's hot. U would've thought they hated the French the way they had no fries. The pickle price was outrageous and due to the current administration inflation has run rampant across our country. COVID-19 Warning! The hot dogs here are good, but you have to wait 30-40 minutes in close quarters. This would be fine if the "safety" person Christian did his job and kept the area clear of his 7-10 mask-less buddies that refuse to put on a mask or leave. So if you come here be ready to receive all of the germs of a throng of insolent teen-agers sitting just a few feet away while you wait. Attention all hot dog fans, Attention. This is Nova top yelper telling you that this place is a must visit when at wrightsville beach. Just a hop skip and a jump from the beach (near the north pier). So far I have tried 4 different varieties to which I have not been disappointed. My personal favorites are the "All the way" and the "German". It is pretty fun to be kicking some cold ones back on the beach, grab some dogs from here and watch people near you on the beach wish they had the same idea. A must try eatery if you're on the beach all day and need something to scarf down! They offer a plethora of differently dressed dogs, as well as vegetarian options for those interested. I didn't get to try many of them, however, the American Hot Dog was super yummy. Just make sure to grab some extra napkins because it can get messy! The Stop itself is decked out on the inside with classic polaroids dating all the way back to the early 90s and serves up friendly and fast service. The Trolly Stop is a shadow of what it used to be. It doesn't have the good local dive kind of feel thanks in part to the dirty laminated word documents taped to the fridges, franchise location listed t shirts, stacks of Lyft cards, and Harris Teeter store brand items. The hotdogs were pale like they sat in a warm water bath and they were about room temp when served. The "homemade" chili sauce was loose and runny so was the hotdog on one of the kids dogs. Maybe later in the "season" for tourists it's better but the natives I know that grew up on them now don't come here and don't recommend it. We went as a group because a friend had tried to stop here last year based on google reviews (despite what the natives were saying on the walk down). It's doubly disappointing that after the sad hotdogs I got to listen to the locals (WB born since the 60s and 70s) I was with talk about the history and memories of the founders and how great it used to be before the current owners (mid 90s) seemed to tweak things and then franchised it out. This location is cash only with an ATM built into the side of the building. This seems to be a place resting on laurels and location as opposed to continued good service and food. I aged 10 years just waiting in line for a mediocre hot dog. I'm all for safety and personal protection from Covid but they basically require a hazmat suit to let you enter the store. Trolly stop is an icon in WB. The dogs are really good and you can have them made 78 different ways. There are 13 signature dogs, but they also have 6 different types of dogs (regular-which is a mix of pork and beef, all beef - sabrett, burger - which is hamburger shaped into a hot dog, turkey, sausage and veggie.) They steam the buns and the mix of ingredients is just something that you don't see very often. For example, I had the Mexican, which is a sausage dog with salsa, jalepenos, bacon, mustard and nacho cheese. It was incredibly tasty, but probably something that you only want occasionally, given the suspect nutrition numbers. Quick tip - trolly stop only accepts cash. read more

The atmosphere is fun and simple and there is outdoor seating but you can carry a hot dog with you making it a perfect quick snack. The location is also perfect and is really close to the beach. First, this place takes cash only....and you may need coins for parking meter. Secondly, the hours that are posted on apps for this hot dog place may be incorrect. For example, if the app indicates the place is closed at 5 it may be that they are closed from 5-6 to restock and reopen at 6.
