Parking can be a bit tricky since it's in Lafayette so mostly street parking. We came as a party of 5 without a reservation on 3/14/26 and were told about a 45 minute to 1 hour wait. Honestly, it went by pretty fast since we just walked around and talked. There are also benches outside if you want to sit while you wait. Once we were seated, the ambiance inside was so nice; dim lighting, cozy, and just a really good vibe overall. Shoutout to whoever was on aux because the music was hitting they were playing Mac Ayres, Gabe Bondoc, lots of R&B . The music added to the atmosphere without being too loud, even though the place itself was lively. The food was AMAZING. We made a reservation for Sunday brunch & karaoke for 12pm. We did have to wait a little bit until we got seated. Once we got seated, we were able to order cocktails right away. We tried the Pilita Corales & FPJ. Both were delicious but a little on the smaller size. We ordered adobo sticky ribs, sizzling sisig, lumpia, pandan pancakes, steak & chicken skewers & for dessert tres leches & turon. The sticky ribs & sisig were SO GOOD. Lumpia was ok. I feel like the pandan pancakes could have but a bit sweeter and definitely needed the sauce. The chicken skewers were ok flavor wise and soft. The steak skewers were a little tougher to chew. Great vibes with the music, homey seating, bar area, outdoor patio, etc. Us fam of 4 came here for brunch on a Sunday, and there was something for everyone. We were seated after several minutes (with reservation), and right when we were being seated and getting our menus, our initial assigned server immediately asked what we'd like to order. We just sat down and haven't looked at the menu yet, so that was a bit odd. She never came back to us LOL. The person at the bar came by and took our food and drinks orders and all was smooth sailing after that. I tried their whiskey cocktail - the Serena. Pretty good and they did not skimp on the alcohol. I'd definitely come back to try dinner (more food options) to try more of their cocktails since they're amazing. Food-wise, we tried the following - Traditional Hot Cakes - my son didn't choose a flavored pancake, but he enjoyed the classic one. Presentation was lovely, and he finished it all. Ube Hot Cakes - my daughter enjoyed these as they were not too sweet. BBQ Steak Skewers (Pinot BBQ on the menu) - $2 more for it being steak. So good. I really enjoyed these and I'd try more of their skewers next time. Flavorful without being too salty, and quite tender as well. Rice bowl with sausages and garlic fried rice - forgot the name of this dish, but was good. Just a tad bland without the sauce and whatnot. Appreciated the sausages with the casing and linked. The pickled onions/veggies gave it some needed acidity and such. Lumpia - we all shared these and enjoyed them. Def needed that sauce. Yum! Adobo Fried Rice - I enjoyed this style more than the garlic fried rice. This was side item, and I'd def get this again. Bonus points here since the kids tried a bit of everything and enjoyed the food (a real blessing since they're quite picky!) I haven't had much Filipino food in my life, but I hear a couple coworkers talk about it quite often. I always go into Filipino restaurants with a high standard because I grew up eating my grandma and mom's fantastic Filipino cooking. I must say, Tropa is the best Filipino restaurant I've been to in a long time! The food and service were excellent, and the ambiance felt very welcoming, much like Filipino culture itself! On to the food! We had a big party and pretty much tried most of the menu, lol! But my favorites were definitely the sisig and lechon kawali! Finding their location was ok, they are located next to other businesses and share a parking lot with those other businesses. The parking lot does go in and around to a back exit Our friend saved a reservation and we all made it in time except for our friend that made the reservation. There wasn't an issue and our friend came 15mins after we sat. They sat us near the entrance near the restroom but it was a large table in a private sided area. We had kids so it was nice that they were able to move around. Ok so for my 1 star off was due to the many mix up orders that became extra charges. Our friend that was late had ordered around the time our food started to arrive. She asked for the side of rice she ordered to feed her kid. Our server brings it out but then when her main order was ready they brought another rice but we said we already got it but they insisted that we were wrong and ordered another one. My other friend just took it just to end the back and forth. About our server, she was nice but a bit much. She would suggest to order more or both. Mind you, it's pretty pricey so for her to try and upsell with guests that have kids is not the best suggestion. She would also but in our conversation and tell a whole story. I mean, it's nice to chat with your customers but to tell a whole story when we don't even know her was a bit much. We really wanted to sit outside but it was already full and the girl band One Voice was there having an interview. Food was delicious and leftovers were good too I'd suggest them for dates or small get togethers even though they did accommodate for our large group , I feel like smaller groups will enjoy a bit more than taking a big group. Tropa sounds fun. I haven't been to too many Filipino restaurants. This made for an exciting highlight to our day, enjoying Filipino cuisine on our first trip to Cali for the year. With a very unique L shaped restaurant design where the once smaller restaurant appeared to have expanded into two additional retail pads, the location is quite as unique as their food. Today, our party of 9 was accommodated outdoor seating on a nice brisk Saturday morning, but with heating lamps working in our seating area it wasn't too chilly. Our waitress was courteous, accommodating and attentive to our needs, water, tea, alcoholic beverages secreted here and there. During this outing I'd have the Tapsilog which is a marinated beef, served with garlic rice, two over-easy eggs, pickled red onion and a side of spicy vinegar which is great for dipping. Fritzie would have the Bangus-silog which is described as a calamansi garlic and marinated fish, garlic rice, picked onion, cucumber and spicy vinegar. There were many other meals around the table, some the kids enjoyed, delicious drinks and sides entrees like the Tortang talong which is a breaded eggplant dishes, seasoned and sauced wonderfully and I tried their Ube pancakes which were delicious! Big fan of Ube. Sorry no pictures this time around Yelp fam, just take my word for it. Just a filipino girl who loves her filipino food. Planned galentine's dinner here and it was everything. We were a party of 7 so they sat us at the large table tucked away. It almost felt private. We were seated right away, had reservations. The staff was hospitable, attentive (our water cups were hardly empty) and Tita Rocky even came by to say hi to our group. The decor was on point, serving ware came correct and the food was delicious. We enjoyed some cocktails, 7 dishes (adobo sticky wings, gambas al ajillo, oxtail kare-kare, sizzling sisig, lechon kawali, fried petrale sole, and the arroz ala valenciana. And two types of dessert (bibingka and turon), in addition to the one we brought. It was enough food for the 7 of us, and we walked out with happy tummys. This restaurant offers a contemporary take on Filipino food--quite special for this area of the East Bay! A classic breakfast dish was the Bangus-silog, a whole, butterflied milkfish, marinated in calamansi/garlic and deep-fried, and served with spicy vinegar on the side. Came here for Valentine's day dinner and it was very easy to make reservations online via Open Table. They have both indoor and outdoor seating as well as a separate indoor dining area, which is where they sat us. We felt kind of far from where the main dining area, bar and kitchen were, but the other room felt private and intimate. Though we were in a separate area, we appreciated our waitress consistently checking in on us, refilling our waters, and explaining the menu to us as it was our first time at Tropa. Mother's Day brought us here, and while the service was pleasant and prompt and the ambience perfectly fine, the food unfortunately missed the mark across the board. We started with the Kinilaw, the Filipino version of ceviche. It lacked the brightness and balance that make kinilaw special -- barely any seasoning, no noticeable ginger, and missing the signature sharp sourness from vinegar that gives authentic kinilaw its character. Next was the Sisig, arguably one of the most beloved Filipino dishes. Sadly, this version fell flat. It arrived not sizzling at all, missing that crispy, caramelized layer you expect from a hot cast iron plate. Flavor-wise, it was bland, oddly missing onions, though topped with crispy garlic. The Tortang Talong was probably the biggest departure from tradition. Instead of the classic roasted eggplant folded into egg, it was thinly sliced eggplant coated in batter and fried crispy -- more like an appetizer than tortang talong. It feels like this restaurant is trying very hard to make Filipino food more "upscale" or approachable to non-Filipino diners, but in doing so, it loses the authenticity that makes Filipino cuisine so good in the first place. If the goal is to introduce Filipino food to new audiences, authenticity should lead the way. If you're looking for authentic Filipino food locally, I'd recommend Isla in Pleasant Hill or FOB Kitchen in Oakland. Better yet, head to Daly City or anywhere in the Peninsula -- that's where you'll really discover authentic Filipino cuisine. read more

Every menu item we ordered was packed with flavors, especially the garlic fried rice, bangus silog, and adobo spare ribs! The sugary sweet, juicy meat fell off the bones! The pancit bihon was nostalgic of how our elders made this for us, growing up, and tasted just like how my mom makes her version at home! Service was excellent. We were checked on frequently, no matter how busy Tropa was for Sunday brunch. I appreciate the owner's mother visiting our tables, chatting with us, asking us how everything was going, and thanking us for dining there. I was brought back to college days with my cousins, with classic old school R&B playing, as we enjoyed every bite of our Filipino brunch. I decided to give it a try for a date night with my husband, curious to see how it would live up to the buzz. We started by ordering the steak Pinoy BBQ and had our eye on the fried petrale sole, but were informed it was unavailable and instead recommended the fried bangus, along with fried rice and a few drinks. Having grown up eating Filipino food, I found the dishes to be... fine. The fried fish was good but fairly standard--something you could find at many Filipino spots without much distinction. Unfortunately, the steak was extremely tough, to the point where it was difficult to chew. We let the staff know, and to their credit, they handled it professionally and promptly replaced it with chicken, which was a much better experience. The drinks were definitely a highlight--well-balanced and enjoyable. While I'm not sure we ordered the standout dishes on the menu, the food overall didn't quite live up to expectations for me personally. My friend and I sat in the patio, which was nice. The heaters came in clutch. Food was extremely flavorful. The pork belly was crispy and the sauce on the ribs was solid. I felt as if I were related to the family as the pictures were reminiscent of my own family. We had the pandan pancakes, fried plantains, fish with garlic rice, and the sisig and family-styled it. Everything was delicious but the fried fish was a bit of a challenge to eat. My friend who's been here multiple times invited us party of five for Sunday brunch. Ambiance was great. Loved the mismatch chairs and table (it works) and they have outside dining under this beautiful tree (I heard it's great to be seated outside with the lights on). Service was excellent! But maybe because my friend knew the server. She was awesome even though the place was packed. Always checked in if we got our orders in. We did have to flag her and a couple of other servers for water refill. They should have left a pitcher or carafe of water for the small glasses. Now the food: it was delish!! Ube pancakes were fluffy (prob needed more cream), garlic rice was superb, salmon and steak skewers were amazing, the bangus sisig was huge and we shared them. The combination of carrots, snap peas, cabbage, onion, garlic, soy and fish sauce topped with calamansi produced a very flavorful and delicious dish. A must order selection. Turon - 5/5 The banana was fruity sweet, and the spring roll wrap was perfectly deep fried and very crispy. The coated caramelized sugar was not overly sweet, and blended well with the banana. Drove from Sacramento to experience the buzz - proud to know a filipino restaurant doing well in a city like Lafayette. Made reservations, was able to enjoy the bar vibe prior to being seated. Friday night and the place was full, nice energy with the flow between the main dining room and the clean outdoor seating area with a beautiful, draping tree to add to the ambience. Cocktails were about $18 each so was expecting greatness. The pandan/coffee drink was surprisingly pansdan - pleasant and memorable and caffeine free! Fried sole- great presentation, good flavor. Tortang talong- yes, a classic reimagined and done well. The mango salsa was a perfect topping. Lechon kawali- was disappointed instantly when I saw that there was no crispy skin on a dish that is absolutely known for its crispy skin. Might be okay for some, but don't order if you're expecting a crunch. Atchara- ordered a side (about $6) - for a tablespoon of this, i'll pass next time. Turon- sarap! langka wasn't too sweet and the turon's temp and crunch was perfect. Would come back to try the kare kare and brunch! Best of luck to this Lafayette gem. read more

Came here for dinner with friends on a Friday. We did make reservation and glad we did because this place was packed and busy,parking lot was full. For those wondering they do have a small bar seating. The place has indoor and outdoor seating. The place is inviting. For cocktails we tried the Duwende and it was so good. We ordered a few things to try sisig,lumpia,beef BBQ (this was my fave),kinilaw (another fave) and garlic fried rice. For dessert we had turon and ice cream. It's so exciting to have a nice sit-down Filipino restaurant in the area! Tropa offers Modern Filipino cuisine for dinner Wed-Sat and Sunday brunch. I have now been here twice for dinner, and enjoyed both of my meals. Service was good. The food, overall, is very good. The highs are extremely high, even though not every dish was a hit for me. Here's what I've tried so far: -Adobo Sticky Ribs (5/5) These are out of this world amazing! You need to order these. Perfectly cooked and tender meat with incredible flavor! -Oxtail Kare Kare (4/5) I like all the contents of this, the amount of and quality of vegetables and meat it comes with, but the sauce wasn't quite to my liking. This is a personal preference, but I wanted more peanut flavor with the sauce. I would also prefer traditional bagoóng served on the side with it, instead of the more sour, more liquidy version it came with. -Pinakbet (5/5) This is the BEST Pinakbet I've had in ages, and my Filipina mom agreed! Fresh tasting veggies, excellent flavors. I can't wait to order this again. -Arroz a la Valenciana (3/5) Unfortunately this was too spicy for my mom to eat, and there wasn't a warning on the menu that it was a spicy dish. I ate this but didn't enjoy it. The quality of the seafood could have been better, too. -Side of Plantains (5/5) Delicious. I believe this place will eventually reach 5 stars for me, but it's currently 4 stars because: -Not every dish was a hit for me. (but the dishes that were good were EXCELLENT). -On our first visit it was over 90 degrees outside that day, and it was still hot when sitting inside during dinner. We were sweating and we could see visible sweat on our server too. We didn't stay for dessert because we wanted to run home to our AC. -On my second visit (on a Saturday night at 7:45) , even though I made a reservation, we had to wait over 25 minutes for our table. And when we finally got our table, it took another 8-10 minutes for someone to take our order, so I was pretty hungry at that point. I'm still really happy that Tropa exists, since I've desperately wanted a Filipino restaurant in the Lafayette/Walnut Creek area. And I will definitely be coming back! Solid 'modern' Filipino spot in Lafayette. Came here on a Sunday towards the end of Brunch, waited about 40 mins for a party of 5 with no reservation. DJ was dropping spinning nice 90s-00's hits so it was a nice vibe. The outdoor seating fit the larger parties, so we were outside on the shady patio. We ordered the bangus-silog, mango salad,sisig, adobo fried rice, adobo sticky ribs, steak and chicken bbq sticks. The bangus silog was really delicious. Large bangus (enough for two people for sure) that was nice and crispy. I at all of the bead since it was so crispy. Came with a suka mix of vinegar and red onion along with two sunny side up eggs over rice (with pickled veggies). The mango salad was a nice way to break up the heavier foods. A little tangy with hints of sweet from the mango and an almost umami taste. The sisig was solid, came with an egg to break up and mix in. The chicken bbq skewers were good too, good chat with s hint of the glaze. The steak skewers were kind of tough, I believe they were sirloin. The strips were longer so maybe if they were cut into smaller cubes? Also they didn't really feel pinoy bbq. The adobo sticky ribs were a little too much for my wife's palette, not sure if it was the sweetness or the tang. My kids liked them though. For desert we had ube ice cream. Really good service, our waitress checked on us as well as an owner and the head chef. I'll definitely go back and try the pancakes and one of the specialty drinks. Good place for a Sunday brunch. Recommend making reservations. The place was filled with a great ambiance. Our hostess wasn't too attentive and was on the phone most of the time when we arrived and when she got off the phone left us waiting until a waitress came to help us. She could have been friendlier, but I overlooked that. We got seated and were promptly approached by our waitress to order. It was a busy Sunday for brunch so it took awhile for us to get our food. Our Sisig came out and it was quite impressive with a sizzling platter. However, we were left waiting for the rest of our dishes and rice which rendered our sisig cold. The flavor was ok but a little salty. The adobo fried rice was a little underwhelming and like the Sisig a little salty. What was surprisingly delicious was the tortang talong. We were a little apprehensive since on the menu it said it would be served with tomatoes, cucumbers and mango--all of which aren't typical for the dish. We had a family dinner at Tropa in Lafayette, a party of eight total. Because we had made separate reservations, we were seated at two tables - but we were accommodated right away, which was appreciated given how busy the restaurant was. Food highlights: * Oxtail Kare-Kare - This dish tasted authentic with a touch of American fusion. The peanut sauce was well-balanced, not too heavy and my mom especially enjoyed it. * Lechon Kawali - Thin slices of deep-fried pork that were surprisingly not oily at all. Crispy, flavorful, and just hit the spot. * Sticky Adobo Pork Ribs - A fun twist on the classic. Different from the adobo I'm used to, but tender, tasty, and memorable. The restaurant was buzzing with a mix of guests - not just Filipino diners- which made me proud to see Filipino food embraced more broadly. We had brunch here the other day and really enjoyed it! We were seated outside in their adorable patio area, which had ample shade and outdoor heaters. Service was super warm and friendly, and I appreciated everyone checking in on us throughout our time there. We shared the Adobo Sticky Ribs, Sizzling Sisig, Garlic Fried Rice, and the Sweet Toast. Tropa in Lafayette was a great find! The food was flavorful and well-prepared, and the cocktails were fun, creative, and deliciously strong (in the best way ). Come with an appetite! Reading through previous reviews, I thought I might try the Sisig and the Adobo Sticky Ribs. Either item is tasty, although I would lean towards the Sticky Ribs. The garlic rice was outstanding, and the Cucumber Mango salad was an excellent accompaniment. My son had a Melon cocktail, which I tried. I would order this drink although I can see how it could be "dangerous" as it's so very smooth. There was a large group of "20 somethings" nearby having a loud, lively time, but after a while it just became background noise. Glad to see folks enjoying life! Solid. The salmon belly skewers were a hit. Also, can't go wrong with a whole fried petrole sole. Breaded eggplant with mango salsa was unique and pancit were good too. There were a lot of pork dishes that I'll need to try another time. Cocktail reminded me of a White Russian with coffee liqueur. Service was not rushed but not slow.
