Oriental Food Market has been here for decades. Haven't been here for many years. Ownership change happened in between. Unsure what shop looked back then. Now it's only display shelves. Not much decor. Prepped food ready to grab n go. Greeted courteously upon arrival. Told owners I would browse before deciding what to buy. Browsing casually, Noticed prepped food in trays at front left. Rest of store are the usual Filipino groceries. Didn't see any veggies, meat or seafood. Wasn't looking for it. Just a glance at the aisles. While browsing, I decided not to buy anything to cook since I dislike cooking and cleaning up. Also not to buy prepped food either. Wasn't going to eat it right away. Noticed Filipino desserts near cashier station. Picked lst 2 I saw. Didn't browse all options. I could slowly eat them over many days. Bites: Biko (rice cake) 7.99 -made from sweet rice, coconut milk, brown sugar. Chewy, sweet addictive taste. Suman (rice cake) 5 pieces-9.99 -sweet rice mixed with coconut milk, sugar. Salt. Wrapped in banana leaves, steamed. -slightly sweet. Chewy. Good for snacking. Looks like a mini Chinese tamale. Sweet rice is native to China & Southeast Asia. Filipino rice cakes have similarities to Japanese mochi, Thai mango sticky rice (khao niao mamuang). All use sweet rice, other ingredients differ. An Ilocano Turoturo place with legit rice plates. We did a Laing and Insarabasab (Ilocano sisig) and a Pork adobo and Bistek combo. The star and my new found love is their rendition of sisig, loved the use fresh peppers, onions and ginger with ears and face. The market is minimal with lots of authentic staples. Oriental Market can be found on Clayton Rd, across the street from Min's Kitchen, and just a bit down from where The Cheese Steak Shop is. Just note, though it's called an oriental market, which is technically accurate, to be more specific this place is a Filipino spot, takeout food and the mini market wares included. Parking is pretty easy to find here even though it may not look it from the front, but there is parking to the side of the building and also in the back if needed, so keep that in mind, but most likely won't need to really use the back. While the place is actually decently sized, just note that the shelves are pretty bare and there's just not much actually on those shelves. Maybe just 1-3 bags of each item, and there's not many items there. Looking at past pictures, this may just be how it is now, but just be aware, it's less market now and probably more of just a takeout food place as that seems to be more of a focus here. They have a small selection of dishes which they told me they rotate every so often as far as specific dishes in the spots. There's not a huge selection, and if I were to compare it, I'd say their selection of food is about the same as if you went to Mama Lumpia's counter and that's basically where they're at. Not too much to choose from, so just know this going in if you're planning to takeout something. Pricing wise for the food, it's not too bad, but will be more expensive than some of the other options around, especially with it being takeout. But they do a good job stuff the container to the top, so that's a bit more helpful at least. Not expensive for Filipino food. Some of the stuff looked good, as I will go back and try some of them in the future, but today I decided to just go with the adobo pork. I feel the adobo pork was just okay. The flavors actually weren't too bad, and the meat was pretty tender and not dry, but the fat part I feel could have been cooked a bit more as it was too chewy for my liking, and not the best pork belly I've ever had for sure, and certainly not from a Filipino place. But again, portions were good. Will I be back? I can say I'm interested. As far as a market goes, it's really not much there, or at least not much there nowadays compared to pictures of the old, so probably wouldn't be my first option for market stuff when there's 99 Ranch and Seafood City around. Would I come back for the food takeout? That is probably more likely as I am interested in how their lumpia is, and perhaps try some of their pancit, or even the spaghetti which they didn't have on that particular day. This must be one of the most OG Filipino spots I've been to. When I think of a "Filipino store", this place illustrates it to the T. Ambience of a store with lots of original Filipino products, plus an eatery (and the food is great because it's cooked home style, with 100% Filipino love), just like in the Philippines. They're being modest with the "oriental" name, but essentially this place is 100% Filipino. And being Filipino, service is always great, you don't have to wait for anyone to greet you with a Hello Sir or Hello Maam. I love this place! First timer as we were visiting a neighboring business.I've been wanting to stop in, but it was always too late or they were closed. We had a long day out planned, so cooking was out of the question. We love pancit and they had it! What made things even better was that the cashier offered bilo-bilo (Ginataan) AND it was still warm!!! Needless to say I got both and we will be back! Amazing "home-style" Filipino food at this small Oriental Market. It has limited food selections (like Panda Express servings). I had their chicken Afritada, pork adobo, pancit, pork sinigang soup and fried bananas. Everything was delishes. This is my new go-to place to get Filipino food. Next time, I will try their lumpias. The chicken lumpia is great! Shanghai style and I got 100 pieces for about 60-ish dollars. Pretty small shop but they also have most Filipino pantry staples here. You can also grab Filipino breakfast and dinner plates too. Service was really attentive. Love this place. read more

I found this little gem driving to a Glass Shop up the street on Clayton. I decided to look it up and was surprised to find out that it was a Filipino market and deli. The family tried an order of Shanghai Lumpia and Lechon . The lumpia was on the higher price end compared to other Filipino food service places but they are good. Fried pretty crunchy with a nice flavor and good filling. The Lechon was roasted perfect on the outside and was tender on the inside. The best Lechon and sauce we've had is from the Jeepney Guy (Food Truck) who participate in the annual Oakland Eat Real Festival. The Oriental Food Market is a solid second (which is pretty good company). On the next trip through, we will try the Adobe and some other dishes. I found this little market while looking for Filipino restaurants close to Danville. This was in Clayton, about a 20 minute drive. It has a small market with groceries and a little area where they serve food. I had the longanisa along with pork sinigang, pork adobo, and pork lumpia. Everything tasted really good and you can't really beat those prices. The longanisa was freshly cooked and the sinigang was perfectly sour. The lumpia was so good I ended up buying a small frozen bag to cook at home. The only thing I did not really like was the pork adobo, it was tender and cooked well, just a little too sweet for me. I like it more on the garlic sour side. The lady in front was really nice and explained her husband did all the cooking and prepared everything fresh and don't use MSG. Another market felt almost like the seafood city. I was looking for something for dinner and saw this place on Uber eat. Order Pork Sinigang, Lumpia Special (bite size), Lechon Paksiw, Pansit (Pinoy noodles) and To-si-log. Everything was good and the price was reasonable. This review will be about the hot food 2-entree lunch special. I really wanted to like this place. I grew up in Hercules and I've always loved Filipino food, and I wanted to support a local business. However, there were a few issues. First and foremost the yellow menu they have hanging up with their food options is very confusing for a first-time customer. Definitely should be re-designed. I wanted to order a 2-entree lunch special. While all the meats they offer are listed, most are only for breakfast, not lunch. When I attempted to order pork adobo and tocino. I was told the tocino does not qualify for this special. When I asked which entrees qualify, I was told only chicken and pork adobo. This seems silly because the point of having multiple entrees is variety. When the only variable is different meat with essentially the same sauce, that's not good. Fine, I ended up getting both pork and chicken adobo with rice. When it came time to pay, my total came out to less than $10 which is good value. However, I tried to pay with a credit card and was told there is a $10 limit. I really dislike this business practice, mostly because it's against Visa's merchant agreement, but I ain't a snitch, I just don't support it. My view is just to be upfront. If you don't want to pay for credit card transactions, just be cash only. Or build the price of credit card transactions into the items you sell. I mean we are still in a pandemic so wouldn't it be safer to use a card anyway? Just saying. I took the food and ate it at home. The adobo in general was underwhelming. Lacked flavor for sure. You basically needed it to drown in the sauce, but even then you only got a little bit of flavor. I didn't really get any tangy, garlic, or soy flavors. The combination of a confusing menu, limited variety for the 1 or 2 entree specials, credit card minimums, and food that was edible, but not flavorful were what prompted this review score. read more

Seriously a hidden gem! I love me some good Filipino food and this Oriental Market has it! So, apparently this place has been in operation for about 20 years now? Um WHAAAT?! How have I missed it? Well for one thing, it's located in a random strip mall off of Clayton road. I've probably passed it by like 100 times and never even knew it. But alas, it's been found! It's owned and operated by a husband and wife team. I decided to stop by on a Saturday for lunch. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner and specialize in classic Filipino favorites such as adobo, longanisa, tapa, tocino, sisig, spam, and lumpia. Breakfast is served all day... yaaasss, ALL DAY bay-beh! Since I was feeling lunchy, I went with their one item plate of chicken adobo and rice and ordered a side of lumpia. Dayuuuum! Now, that some goooood chicken adobo right there! The chicken was nice and tender and super flavorful. I loved the mild sweetness of the adobo sauce. They make the tiny lumpia here but they were nice and crispy and didn't fast frozen which was a plus. The prices for a meal here are dirt cheap! You could potentially have a filling meal here for $6 or less! So awesome! This is definitely a to-go situation. They have two tiny tables inside, but I think they actually charge you a $1 if you decide to eat in. Kind of weird, but it's not like there's much space in there to eat anyways. In addition to Filipino food, they also sell many Filipino grocery items, offer cheap air fare to the Philippines, and I believe that they also do wire transfers here too. Lots of services! I should also mention that they cater. Ordered 2 full trays of Lumpia (shanghai) for my sons birthday and they even ordered chicken or pork lumpia. Since my wife has a pork allergy I asked if they fried it in 2 separate fryers, and she assured me that they did. Unfortunately the day before the pick up, the lady called me (sorry I forgot your name, but you where amazing) and their 1 fryer was not working. I just wanted to say thank you for even taking the time to reach out and tell us that the fryer was down, 2nd we did not regret maintaining 2 trays all pork instead, in fact my wife took her allergy medicine and ate it. Feeling Filipino food tonight. Not many around here but we found a good one. This one's inside a market and is a little fast food pickem Filipino spot like many others. They aren't open too late and we didn't get there til 6:30 so I knew we'd miss out on a couple things since they don't make things to order. They didn't have lechon kawali or Cebu lechon. No lumpia either. Call ahead to get those. No adobo. But it's more our fault for going to late. But they still had some good stuff. Sinigang, diniguan, and fried chicken skin. The chicken skins were really good, crispy, with good coating for frying. The diniguan could have been a little more sour but it was still good. The pork was cooked perfectly, tender and soft. I placed a party tray order from here for the first time. it was local to where I was throwing a party for my daughter. I ordered rice, sisig (daughter's favorite filipino dish. pancit, lumpiang Shanghai, and Turon. the lady that took my order is super sweet. I didn't pick up on time and I think they were calling me... so busy setting up the party. Great spot to grab a quick bite to eat. I had a pound of lechon (roast pork) which was about $16/pound. Also had the rice with one item, picked a beef stew (I don't know the real name), which was $6.99. There were 8 options to choose from, I don't know the names of anything, but there were beef, fish, chicken, and pork options (not really any veggies). My girlfriend and I agreed that the food was excellent. The lechon had that wonderful crispy skin, and juicy meat. The skin is VERY crispy, and some parts quite thick. By nature, its a little fatty, but that's where the flavor is. It came with a fantastic dipping sauce too. The beef stew dish was also great, the beef was tender and the sauce was great. Ok sized portion, the two item combo for $9.99 seems like the way to go if you're hungry. Service was excellent. Very nice lady working the counter, she also gave us a few samples to try, which were also delicious (in particular there was a pork stew that was especially good). Tons of parking on the side and in front. To-go only, nowhere to eat inside or outside. The store itself is quite small. Seems like its mostly Filipino sauces and seasonings, and some canned goods. My review is for the whole Lechon. My husband and I got married about 6 months ago. Due to COVID, we had to cancel our reception at our venue and instead we had a tiny reception in our background.
