Maybe we just caught them on a bad night, but we were pretty disappointed. The Cheesy Garlic Twists were incredibly dry, practically inedible. They were so hard the bread may have been over a day old or microwaved. The pizza was okay, but nothing special. The toppings on both our pizzas were sparse and pretty much entirely on one side, like they were just thrown on haphazardly leaving half of the pizza just sauce and bread. We'll probably give them another shot but so far we're not real impressed with their food, but the beer is good. read more

Their pizza "best dressed" is quite possibly the best pizza I have ever had. Regardless of deep dish or thin crust, the flavor combinations on this pizza were amazing. Not to mention the crust was perfectly flavored with a hint of salt. The trophy wife is also my go to beer. Their location is pretty nice also, off the beaten path but not too far. The bar and inside seating area is super nice, I believe they added a few more tables outside for more room. Anytime I'm back in Raleigh I make it a point to stop by and have both. To me, Trophy is more like 3.5 stars, but I can't make that selection, so I'll round up. I'll start with the good: The pizza and beer. The pizza is always fresh, and they're always trying new concoctions, which are mostly great. I have enjoyed every pizza that I've had there, so it's hard to recommend any in particular. Just order what you think looks good, and you'll be happy. Unlike other pizza places (looking at you Mellow) they are able to combine vegan needs with pizza. Most places are happy to pile veggies atop a pizza crust, but it all just falls off in practice. And when that happens, my wife looks so sad, as she tries to eat pizza like a normal person :( But at Trophy they are able to use a sweet potato base that manages to have some stickiness. Trophy is also (and primarily?) a brewing company, so it almost goes without saying that their beers are top notch. I particularly like the Double Death Spiral IPA. It packs a lot of hoppy flavor, without having the cloying taste that a lot of other higher-alcohol beers have. Similar to the pizza, they're always cycling in different beer options. Another one that I really like is the Head of Class IPA. One time my wife got a beer that came with a Samoa girl scout cookie attached, and it was also really good. Alright, so here's my not so happy thoughts about Trophy. It's packed. Always. It's comical to drive past Trophy on a Wednesday night when a local running club meet there. They're out almost to the sidewalk. So, you can't assume that you'll be able to get a seat in trophy until about midnight. I've wished that they could expand somehow, but how knows, maybe that would break the spell or something. Most places, if you buy a growler, it's more economical than drinking at the bar. Not so at Trophy. They sell you two pints, and that's that. I wish the growler was larger, and that it had some price break for buying multiple to go beers. I'm just saying it's not a good financial decision to visit trophy at 12:00 on a Friday night to get a few growlers, you'll be set back pretty significantly. And the price is not really a problem. But it's hard to keep the bill down at Trophy, because how can you go there and not get beer with your pizza? The beer goes so well with the pizza after all. Annndddd, next thing you know, you're looking at a $50 meal for two people. So, is it really a good look to spend $50 on a pizza dinner? Ambiance is crowded but, it's fun to observe all the hipsters and trophies. For the most part, their beer is vegan. The servers and bartenders have been accommodating and friendly in my experience. Eating at Trophy takes a long time, because eating pizza takes a long time, it's just the nature of the beast, so I don't go there if I'm in any sort of hurry. read more

This brewery has is not just for beer but also pizza. They have so many creative pizzas that can satisfy anyone's taste. The ghost pepperoni pizza is really spicy but so good! If you like spicy I would order this. For cheese lovers they have a grilled cheese pizza that is delish. We have ordered several of the pizzas and all of them are excellent but since my friends and I like a kick the spicy one is our favorite. When you get there grab a table because it is first come first serve. It is a fun atmosphere and they have some outdoor seating which is perfect for a nice day. read more

Five-star beer with two-star pizza. But we went there for the beer, so here you go, Trophy, take four stars. Inventive and tasty beers at a reasonable price with efficient table service. I had a gose and my tablemates grabbed a high gravity IPA. Both were tasty. Non-beer drinkers raved about the sangria. Cool decor inside with some nice shared-space tables. We parked out back, which was open and free post-5pm on a Monday. Pizza was very disappointing. Dry, not a lot of toppings, too much crust. Not good fresh or leftover. I really enjoyed Trophy! I am a craft beer fanatic so while recently in Raleigh for a wedding, I explored the local area. Trophy was listed as a must see on the beer circuit. I wish that I was hungry because the pizza looked delicious. So I only had the beer which was good and reasonable priced at $5 a pint. The location is great near NC State. Parking is limited though which is surprising for a mid-sized space. I definitely recommend a stop here for a brew. read more

Haven't tried the food - it may be able to push this review to 5 stars - but the beer is definitely interesting! "The King" is a "peanut butter and banana sandwich" dubbel and tastes eerily like Jif. The bar is full of beautifully restored wood from the area and their tasting flight holders are made of barrel staves. Inside is small but cozy, but while the weather is good the place to be is the outside seating area. Perfect for an after-work pint. read more

Trophy is one of the reasons I am really sad to be leaving Raleigh. This place is fantastic, and worth every bit of your time and money. First, the pizza. I personally believe this is the best pizza in Raleigh, and very possibly the best I've ever had. I believe the crust tastes fresher and tastier than other places in town, and their topping combinations are unique and delicious! They also have daily special pizzas where they can showcase really creative flavors. My favorite of the standards is Most Loyal. The way the honey compliments the chicken and pesto is just magic. The beer is excellent too! Just like the pizzas they make lots of one-offs so there's always something unique to try. Follow them on Twitter- they post their daily pizza and beer menu. Trophy is a spot that gives Raleigh a nice local feel to the city. The concept of the place is simple, but it's simplicity is what makes it so good. If you like pizza and beer this is the place to go. My only advice is don't go here hangry because it's always crowded and tables are first come first serve. Sometimes you have to play the waiting game and really fight for a spot at the bar or a table. That's honestly the only thing that holds me back from going here more. Trophy is expanding in Raleigh so this problem should change for everyone soon. The beer options are always great and the specialty pizzas are delicious. They do a great job of rotating beers and pizzas on the menu, so every time you come you can expect something new and different. Some other reviews talk about this place being too packed, but we were there for a few hours around 930pm on a Saturday night and didn't have a hard time finding seats at the bar (plus there were 6+ tables open). Didn't eat (wish we would've because the pizza menu looked great, the pizzas smelled great, and no one around us had any left - so they must've been decent) Only drank, tried 3 beers (ipa, citra saison, and hoppy wheat), enjoyed them all. The bartenders were friendly - TVs available to see but also easy to ignore if you're not looking to watch something. Since visiting Trophy for the first time two weeks ago I have been back 4 times! They rotate their beer selection frequently, but everything has been great and the bartenders are very knowledgable. Both of the coffee porters were excellent and I went during beer week to try their limited edition brew aged in red wine. The new, bigger patio is great for hanging out and laid back enough to bring your dogs and spend some time. The Bibb salad was phenomenal and for $6 a really great deal. read more

Beer is great, pizza is great, service is okay. First time I visited, we sat at the bar and just had a few beers. The bartender was extremely friendly and knowledgable. The second time we brought friends and sat down for dinner and beers. Service was very slow and not very attentive (ie water refills and bringing beers when we were finished with ours) but it was very busy, so maybe understandable. We had pizza and it was delish. My only criticism is that there weren't many vegetarian options for pizza (we had to ask for no meat on my pizza - and I hate doing that because it messes up combination of ingredients!) The beer selection is always good, should be they are a brewer after all. Seating wise it's super cramped inside the bar area. There is a side seating area and thank god they opened up more seating right outside as the place on many occasions appeared to be about to burst. The beer is awesome! The second time I was in here they explained that it was the first time they had all beers on tap from that specific location. The beer is well quality however, I was a little disappointed to find the darkest beer served at that time (December) was a brown ale. This is just a personal pet peeve where I like to drink darker warm beers in winter. They also serve uniquely crafted pizza. Most loyal is my favorite and the new kid is pretty good. Don't be afraid to try new pizza, even if it sounds weird, it's good! The salads are awesome, we always share a small, is big enough for two! The service is straight forward. read more

Best Dressed pizza is SO good. Salads are also great, had the Mixed Greens salad with pecans and champagne vinaigrette, plus goat cheese and red onions, was the perfect mix of flavors. First off, the pizza here is great. I love it. But, the frustration the flows from attempting to find a table is mind numbing and angering. If you're getting pizza to go, this place is awesome. But, they have a first come first serve seating policy with no organization whatsoever. I don't mind sitting and waiting for a seat for any amount of time needed; however, at Trophy, if you're waiting and someone leaves, you pretty much have to fight the other people waiting for the seat even if you were waiting the longest. GET A BEEPER SYSTEM OR TEXT SYSTEM!!! This is 2019 almost 2020. Make some kind of organization to decrease seating frustration. Until then, I'll probably not go back. I am a hurricane refugee. I am from an old family in Raleigh, but haven't been here in 40 years. A family member has a house in Cameron Park and I was looking for good pizza close by. What a nice surprise to run across this place. The beer was great, pizza was excellent, and the salad couldn't have been fresher. The attentive staff were awesome with the exception of the bearded guy with the man bun, not so much. A little condescending and pretentious. Other than that , it was great. I love me some Trophy. Small but solid beer selection with a rotating menu. I think it was something like 5-6 beers, all very reasonably priced (in my opinion). I highly recommend the foliage saison. One of the better beers I've had in awhile. It has that craft brew vibe (visible tanks, chalkboard with the beers, lots of staches) mixed in with a neighborhood feel. Service was great.
