This was a pretty good place for ice cream. I was staying at the Sheraton Coconut Beach and this wasn't too far away. I had two flavors: Lychee and Blueberry Cheesecake. The lychee was nice and interesting- creamy with pleasant fruit flavor - it was a bit on the sweet side; the blueberry cheesecake was alright - I really only tasted the blueberries and the cheesecake flavor didn't really come through for me. The customer service was good and attentive. This was one of the very few places for dessert in the area so if you are craving ice cream, this is one of the few options. We were really excited to try this place as we had a hankering for some ice cream rather than just the shave ice we had been eating most days. Unfortunately, the flavors were rather muted. Got a double sundae during my stay twice in the same week! The first time I did not get a cherry though, which made me a little sad but, the ice cream quality and the freshness and cleanliness of everything in the shop was top notch! Beware that during your stay in Hawaii, it appears the shop owners tend to go by their own time or "Hawaii time." The sign on the door stated that the shop opens at noon...but we arrived at 5pm one day and they weren't fully opened yet. I would be disappointed had it been closed when I arrived so, beware you may arrive and it may be closed even when it's supposed to be open. Oreo cheesecake flavor was absolutely amazing. 10/10 no notes everything about it was perfect. The flavors, the texture, the amount of oreos, and the elevation beyond just a classic cookies and cream (which is the best flavor) were executed flawlessly. They have a lot of variety there between fruity flavors, tropical flavors, asian, chocolate, regular flavors etc. I got the dragonfruit sorbet because i actually enjoy the fruit even though it normally has no taste and its gorgeous pink. Enter and Tropical Dreams looks much like any other ice cream shop I've visited. Look more closely and you can see and feel the difference. The employees radiate a warmth reflecting that island vibe the locals are known for. Waiting for my turn in line I also see them moving swiftly as a team to take care of the customers in front of me. Gives me some time to think about what to order. So many flavors to choose from. Hawaiian ice cream made by Tropical Dreams on the Big Island is my fav brand. I discovered this brand at a San Diego shop named Hammond's but I expect it to be fresher here. Mango lychee sorbet had a strong sweet mango flavor with a underlying lychee flavor. I never tried this mix of flavors before but it's really good. I love the icy fruity texture. Lemon cream was like a frozen lemonade flavored ice cream. It was rich and creamy with lemon flavor. Flavors I tried were cold and stayed frozen till the delicious dessert melted in my mouth. I hate when places have mushy ice cream that melts before I'm done. I met the owner Erik who graciously gave me a tour of his shop. I saw the industrial cooler in the back where the ice cream is frozen at 14F. The freezers in the front are at 20F so the ice cream can be scooped easier. The pints are priced at $14.75 while a scoop was $4.75. I love buying pints so I can relax at the hotel for a late night snack. The flavors I bought that were in pints were: POG sorbet tasted much like the Meadow Gold POG I purchased from Costco in the 1 gallon container. Rich, sweet, and fruity flavor with icy goodness. Lemon cream with blueberries was an ice cream I'd never seen before. Like eating lemonade in ice cream form. Blueberries gave it a hint of sweetness to contrast the tart lemon flavor. The ice cream is thick and rich so it's better I don't ask what the butterfat percentage is. Tropical Dreams is a very friendly family owned and operated franchise/business and I'm glad I found it. An added bonus is it's less than a mile from our hotel so I can easily restock when I run out of ice cream. :-) read more

This ice cream shop is super cute with amazing flavors not available on the mainland such as taro. I tried the new mango cheesecake flavor. It was so creamy, smooth and sweet. It hit the spot. My son had a chocolate ice cream with gummy bear toppings. The sales clerk made my son's day when a few of the gummies slide off his ice cream as he was handing it to him so he gave him a small cup with a few gummies to make up for him. I was happy to see they had sorbet and vegan options the staff that was there was very kind and helpful I giving recommendations and letting us taste a few flavors. I grabbed the açaí sorbet which tasted truly like açaí in a light and sweet refreshing taste. I wish I could find this in Dallas! My husband had the Cookie Monster and he said it was great.
