We ordered an awning for our new business. The entire process from beginning to end was fast and easy. Although we're on another island we found communication quick and easy. There was a mix up on our new phone number and they unpacked the box to fix it before shipping out. The awning was amazing and easy to put up. We found out that our phone number still had the last four digits messed up (utility companies fault) and Tropical J's sent us new ones and walked us through the process to switch them out. So I opted for (Tropical J's) to fabricate one and it came out so much better, fit better then perfect. Now I will be getting all my replacement polin deck ovens belts from them. Called this place on a Tuesday morning and spoke to a girl that took all my info and what I needed done. I'm not sure if my job wasn't big enough, if they're too busy, or maybe they don't need the business? I called back Wednesday as no 1 returned my call the day before, I was told that they usually take a couple of DAYS to return calls? Today is now Thursday and still no one has gotten back to me but ok, I opted to go with another company because this is no way to do business in my opinion. read more

I'm going to echo what Kevin T. said about this place. I have almost the same exact story. I called and emailed in on a Friday with all the details of what we needed them to do for us. She said she would pass along the information and that someone would be in touch. Monday came and nothing. I called and emailed again and was promised that their "sales manager" was taking a look and would call me back. Monday came and went but a response from tropical J's sure didn't. Tuesday morning dawned and I emailed and called again and was told that they were working on it and "Trying to find who they gave the information to" and that a sales manager would call me back. I told them that I had a very important meeting at 4:00pm and that I needed the quote to present to my superiors. I was then told by the girl that answers the phone that she just spoke with the "sales manager" and that he would call me as soon as he got out of his meeting and that I would have an answer in time for my meeting. At the time of writing this review ... it is now 4:40 and I have heard nothing! I missed having the information for my bosses and that made me look terrible! I called 5 times trying to get someone on the line after 4pm and the calls go straight to voicemail. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place like the plague. They care nothing about earning your business at all! I suppose they have an entitled mentality and could care less about actually service their customers. read more

We had our lanai rope and pulley awning installed in 12/17 and have been more than satisfied with the awning and the service provided by Tropical J's. This week, somehow the rope needed to be put back into place because of the incorrect way we had been raising/lowering and when i contacted Tropical J's, i was amazed as their super duper quick response to our issue. THE BEST!! I bought two umbrellas & bases 13 years ago!!! - and just now I am getting two more....I'd say this is amazing longevity! Most outdoor umbrellas here in Hawaii need to be replaced annually due to sun and rain. Yes, these are more expensive - but the quality and durability cannot be beat. The two old umbrellas still work, by the way - but I am ready for new after 13 years. You will not be sorry with Tropical J's umbrellas! read more

This was the second set of umbrellas we purchased from Tropical J's. Our last pair was nine years old and had several burns from cigarette butts, so we were due for some new ones. They connected us with Jordan and he came down to our shop for a site visit. He gave us our fabric and pole recommendations and then sent us some custom drawings, so we knew exactly what we were purchasing. Since our umbrellas were custom the production took some time. Jordan did an excellent job giving us status updates along the way, so we never felt forgotten. The installers were extremely prompt and courteous to our customers and they made sure the poles were securely fastened into place and even came back to make sure everything settled just right. I will definitely be calling Tropical J's back in another 9 years for our third set of umbrellas. read more

I love my 3 House dogs! When no humans are home we have a fenced kennel area for my dogs on the side of the house. There is a roof but wind and rain can still come into the kennel area from sideways. I used to use a tarp stapled to my eves and the other end was tie wrapped to my fence. It did the job but looked like poop. I contacted the owner Gary and gave his some pictures of the area and measurements of my tarps that I was using. I told him what color I was looking for as well. I was so happy with the quality and the professional look of it...and it was very functional. Gary made a channel for me to slide the custom tarp thru (some type of hard rope like material was sewed at the end of the tarps) so I could attach it to the eves of my roof with screws (and no staples), the other end is still tie wrapped to my fence. The business is ran by Gary, his wife, and kids. They are so nice, professional, and accommodating! They make everything CUSTOM and the quality is way better than anything you'll find in the United States. From what I hear from others, they are the largest and best on the island....i certainly will recommend them to my family and friends. read more

My family needed to fix an awning that needed new pulleys and a new rope. I started looking at different companies that did that type of work. I called Tropical J's and spoke with Jeri. Jeri gave me a quote by lunch that day. Jeri is professional, friendly and knows her job. I did not meet the installers, Alwin and Edwin, but I was told they did a great job (and very quickly). They did small fixes that weren't on the order to make it work better. My last note goes to Kuu Shoaf, who was very friendly and helpful. I would go back to Tropical J's and I would recommend them as well. read more
