I got the Tropical Dragon Passion Smoothie, and it was pretty good. You can edit and swap items on the app too, which makes it easy to customize the smoothie to taste. One complaint is their use of styrofoam/polystyrene cups. I thought these single use styrofoam cups have been banned in PG County since 2016, where this shop is located. Would prefer if they used a recyclable option, or if they allowed customers to bring their own reusable cups instead. read more

I came in for a smoothie as a quick snack. I got the peanut butter cup smoothie and added strawberries to it. It tasted good, so there were no complaints there. However, my issue was with the employees and their choice of conversation. Between the use of a word that rhymes with "cities" to describe female anatomy and a detailed explanation of the health benefits of eating a placenta, I was shocked! I don't mind conversations like that with friends or family if it comes up. But I don't expect to hear conversations about eating placentas or making soap out of it and giving it to coworkers without telling them what it is by the people preparing my food! Tropical Smoothie Café, College Park, MD, emailed me receipt for a $24.96 order of four smoothies and a fat burner add-in that I didn't order. The order was to be picked up in 20-25 minutes. I called the restaurant to cancel the order, since it was fraudulent. The employee I spoke to stated they couldn't cancel the order, even though I could confirm the name and card used, and when asked for her name, she would not give it, but handed the phone to the manager. The manager stated the same - there is nothing he could do. Since it was ordered online, it's between me and the online app company Level Up. I did contact the app company Level Up and my bank and both were polite, helpful, and concerned. Where Tropical Smoothie Café employee and management were apathetic, unhelpful, and didn't see any problem with providing an identified case of fraud and theft with stolen merchandise, even when they knew well in advance of the theft, and instead shrug it off as not their problem and they're not going to get involved. As someone who is and will always continue to be supportive of the restaurant industry and sympathetic to the unforgiving environment small-business owners and franchisees suffer even in the best economies, I'm shocked by how poor this company's customer service skills and attitudes are. They seemed amused by my problem, and annoyed that I was calling them. A very bad way to do business and I feel sorry for anyone invested in this company that is so poorly represented by employees and managers who think this is an acceptable way to behave towards customers As an admin note: They could've helped me. I come here every so often but I mainly come during October to get the pumpkin pie smoothie. If you like pumpkin pie you have to give it a try when its available again! Other than that, If I come at a different time of the year I get something random. For the price, this place is really nice. And she's like "oh I didn't know that". And cashier told me she's gonna serve her first. I go to the tropical smoothie in DC on South Dakota all the time. I went to this one for the first time and I will never return to this one. The wrap was ok. The smoothie (chia banana) had a date seed in it so I was spitting out pieces of a seed while drinking my smoothie it also was more watery than when I had it before. They also wanted to charge me a $1 for subbing chicken for vegan I never paid for the sub. I have seen to get the vegan chicken is 50 cents not a $1. I was not satisfied with this one. read more

On 10/10/19 I accidentally placed an order thur their phone app as I was driving thru this location. I just started using this app & truly didnt realized that the phone auto selected the closest store. I thought I was placing the order for pick up at the Columbia, MD-where I've always purchased from. When I realized of the mistake, I called the college park store and asked to speak w/the manager the guy told he was not in, I asked for the name-he said he was not in..I explained my situation and he said well its done and we cant cancel order. I asked for a courtesy and to again speak w/the manager or I would call my cc company to chargeback to which he hang up on me. Called back 4X, he answered claimed he was the manager & said he was gonna refun w/in a wk, which never happened. When I called back a wk later, I was told that the manager was not in and that it was not a male, but a female. I again asked to please speak w/the manager or owner but was told they don't know their schedule. I complaint to corporate and they sent me an $8 dollar gift card, but my transaction was $19.37. The lack of professionalism, customer service has stopped me from sponsoring any of this locations. I've mailed the gift card back and told them to shove it up their....."-"(you fill out the blanks). I've deactivated the app on my phone and will never ever use any of these facilities from any location. I have options as a customer. This is a great place to eat. The staff is always friendly. If you ever have trouble finding something to eat or drink the staff always have great recommendations. After you order the items never take long to get made. Only reason why I deducted a star is because seating is a little scarce if it's a little busy since the shop itself isn't super large and they do skimp on the sauce and bacon at times.
