First time here and I'm unimpressed. You are greeted by service without a smile, or more likely not greeted at all. The appearance inside is unimpressive, looking like a place where bare minimum is their goal. Bare minimum decor, bare minimum cleaning, bare minimum ambiance and personality. I had a Chicken Pesto Flatbread, and while the flavor was decent, it was served barely warmer than room temperature with a cold inside. The flatbread has what looks like grill marks but I imagine they come out of the package looking that way, because they were perfectly straight lines rather than following the curve of the folded bread. I can't imagine this ever saw a hot grill press. Cheese inside was cold instead of melted. I got the sweet potatoes side, and while they came out hot, they were very bland despite being billed as "Maple" potatoes. Wife had a Chicken Chipotle Club flatbread, which again had decent flavor but was cold and unimpressive in presentation. We also tried the Paradise Point smoothie (strawberry/banana/pineapple) and it was, to repeat a common theme... unimpressive. Generally bland in flavor, we didn't drink even half of it. The whole experience was bland and unimpressive from the decor to the staff to the food and drinks. NOTE the door was open and the only sign on the door said to be patient because of them not being fully staffed- there was no one else inside, we were ignored for 5 minutes. I asked if she was the manager on staff and she said she was for the moment... and proceeded to say the manager was aware of what she was doing... We visited one of these in Greenville, SC and liked it so much we were thrilled to learn that they had one in Winston. The Veggie Hummus Wrap is amazing! All 3 of the smoothies we had were also delicious! Updated: This location has the worst service I may have ever experienced! Someone needs to step in and help this place. I came in for the first time in over a year and will probably not come back for a few more. I'm not sure if the AC was broken or they just didn't have it turned on but it was uncomfortably warm in there. The staff showed no customer service skills and looked annoyed to even be talking to someone. I made the mistake in looking up and saw atleast 10 ceiling tiles discolored from water damage spread out across the ceiling. The vents were covered in black dust and the ceiling tiles around it were also covered in black dust. 2 tiles were actually missing. The trashcan was over flowing, the floors were filthy, and there was a ladder lend up against the wall in the dining area. The whole place just felt gross. These people are not the friendliest people around. I didn't come to make friends. They are respectful and effecient and accomodating. I ordered the Acai smoothie with pomegranate, raspberry, strawberry, ice, and craberry juice instead of water. 24 ounces for close to $6.00 is a good deal to me. Water makes it less sweet. I used to live in Chicago for a short while and the young lady , Geneve is from Chicago so I get it however people expect friendlier service and they have a right to get it. Kudos to Tropical Smoothie Cafe for using real ingredients in their smoothies! This is a definite must-have for me. I can't stand going somewhere for a smoothie and have a blended smoothie full of additives and concentrate juices. They're always full of added sugars and hidden ingredients. I placed my order over the phone because I had to cut my lunch break short today. The lady on the phone took my order and was very polite. My order was totally ready by the time I got there, with the exception of my smoothie, which they made fresh. I got the Thai Chicken Salad, and the Island Detox Smoothie. The smoothie had fresh kale, spinach, mango, pineapple, banana and ginger. Nutritionally speaking, this is one of the best options if you're looking for less calories and sugar. Although the young lady making my smoothie told me that you can get any of them made with splenda or honey to lower the sugar count. The Island Detox was perfectly tart and smooth. I love the texture that the crushed ice gives it. You can also add supplements to your smoothie for added protein or nutrients. I will definitely try the probiotics, fat burner, and immunity booster. My chicken salad was also great. For all of those complaining about pricing and portion sizes, American standards of portions at restaurants are typically skewed. I thought the portion was just right. As for the prices, they are a little steep, but you get fresh ingredients, made to order. I find no room for complaint with this place. I have visited this establishment several times. I have not once been acknowledged or spoken to when I enter the shop. If the workers are busy making smoothies they wait until they are completely done making the smoothies until they come to the register and say may I help you. That is it. There is never a manager around to speak with about it. I have worked in the public sector all my working life oh, and it seems that service from these young people it's getting worse and worse. I have just decided to stop patronizing this business, and have chosen to just go to the Juice Shop exclusively, where I am greeted enthusiastically as though they are happy to have my business. As much as I come here I should rate this 5 stars out of preference. But as much as they have continually improved it, the food would make it a 4 if I factored it in. But I will factor that out of my review score total instead and make this review based on the smoothies which I think you should come for anyway. So with that said I will get the food out of the way first and say that it is a 3 out of 5. It has good enough flavor. But it really doesn't always taste the freshest nor is it anywhere near affordable enough for what you get. It's a shame really because the smoothies are amazing. Now as for the smoothies, definite 5 stars. They huge, don't have fillers like ice, use fruit instead of juice, and still right at $5. There are options that have different types of proteins, including whey protein. (Not sure about the whey brand though) They have an app you can use, either to pay or order with. I do have it for easy payment. (You earn rewards) However, it has been bad at ordering ahead. Last time it didn't send them the name of the smoothie I ordered. It only took them a second to whip out the smoothie but none-the-less I think I'll call if I want to order in advance. I've had good/less so good experiences with the employees in the past, but that seems fixed now. It's rare to have anyone that bad in the last few months. Horrible experience! This place does not know how to treat loyal customers. Recently went in and ordered 2 flatbread sandwiches and 2 smoothies, JENNA (Genevieve) was very rude at this point. She had an attitude and was snobby. To our surprise when we got home, the order was wrong! It was also made very poorly. Half of bacon on one flatbread. Skimpy on the ingredients. One of the flat bread had tomato and lettuce when we specified not to because of a known food allergy. When we got there the same woman JENNA (Genevieve) ignored us then told us to wait. We stood there and she continued to find tasks to do including helping other people. Had I not noticed the sandwich was made wrong this could have been a bad allergic reaction and complete fault on the store and employee makings the food. Finally she addressed us and was rude didn't apologize for making the sandwich wrong (even though we knew she did it on purpose cause she got smart and was having a attitude tossing things around while making the sandwich). Long story short we asked for a manager and name of employee and another worker kicked us out the store for harassment. She then said she was the owners daughter and we had to leave or she would call the police. We were not yelling, cussing, threatening all we did was bring back an item that was made incorrectly and asked for a refund! We stood our ground and waited for the cops to come, they were shocked that the store would call them for such a stupid reason and they wouldn't just give us our money back. Cops were completely on our side and they waited with us until the owner came to give us a refund. Apparently no one in the store knows how to give a refund and they refused to call to get instructions. The owner seemed irritated that such a small situation amounted to squad cars being in front of her business. This situation was completely racist, as we are people of color in the south. I'm glad that the end result was us getting our refund as we requested. We come here 4 times a week at least and they truly lost valuable business. Before the manager came one of the employees said "oh your the best customer ever " in a sarcastic voice. This place has horrible customer service. Several reviews show this. They are going down the drain because of employees who are racist and cannot make orders right. Will never come back and will share my experience with everyone. Better off going to JUICE SHOP on Stratford road. They have a 4/5 stars on yelp. There are also a couple ratings on here that's skewed. This is a great place to come for a smoothie even though it's a chain they seem to have a rotating menu and use variety of different fruits and vegetables. They also have a food menu in a matter how many times I've tried it I've never liked it so I stick to the smoothies. The avocalda is my favorite hands-down.
