My favorite place in PDX! Fun place with tasty food options for people with a variety of dietary needs. Make sure to check their hours before you go.
Was exploring the area for a new lunch spot. Passed by Tropicale and liked the vibe. The outdoor patio was festive and bright on a gloomy day, so I stopped in and checked out the menu. The staff member at the bar where you order was friendly and helpful with suggestions. Went with the happy hour "2 tacos and a beer" deal. Took my order number to a table, along with a Victoria Cerveza. Chosen solely for its beautiful label, it was light and refreshing. Not long later two colorful chicken tacos arrived with a side of a deliciously smokey sauce. These were great tacos! The patio filled up while I was eating, cute pups passed through and friends gathered drinking tropical cocktails in pineapples. Felt good to be there. I'd gladly come back.
Good place to have some fun on a sunny day. Drinks were pretty good, food could have had a bit more spice but did the job. Walk up service, was straightforward.

The food, the vibes, and the service were all on point for my first visit! This is in a food hall corner situation with 2 other eateries sharing an outdoor dining space with heaters and a fire pit. While I don't love the lack of option to sit indoors, I can see how this would be appealing in the summertime! They have a small but intentional menu of food and drinks. Unfortunately no drinks for us during lunch on a workday but my friend did mention coming here for drinks before and being impressed. You order inside and they bring food out to you. Help yourself to water station right outside and bus yourself afterwards. Service was so friendly and he took the time to explain and recommended the menu items. All of us enjoyed our food and I really enjoyed the heartiness and satisfying flavor profile of the dishes. Prices were also very reasonable. Come get your lunch/dinner/drinks on!
I got the octopus and the NA pina colada while my friend got the tacos. We shared a chips and salsa plate. The flavor was fantastic for all items. The service was nice, they brought the food out to us and we cleared our tables. The restaurant has open door seating which was nice for the warmer weather we're having. There are also other restaurants next door (our other friends liked their food from Friendship kitchen - Vietnamese, rollin fresh - sushi, and the pie spot) and nearby so it makes it easy to have everyone try something they enjoy. The tables I believe are shared with the establishments and were sticky and a little dirty which was a negative. There are 2 restrooms as well.

Given the good reviews, I decided to order takeout from here. Unfortunately, this wasn't a good experience. I purchased an order of chips and guacamole. I also got the Los Maduros Con Carne. First I was given the smallest amount of guacamole I've ever seen for an order of chips with guac. It isn't as if I ordered a side of guac but the actual appetizer. The guac was also just off. Had an odd taste, no spice or even a hint of salt. The chips were really good so that's one plus. I've had Maduros Con Carne (and similar items) before. This was by far the worst I've ever had. The plantains were barely fried and were extremely slimy. The cochinita was super dry and again had little flavor. Though there was a lot of it. They put a dollop of salsa that was alright. I wish there was more of it to bring some moisture to the thing. Maybe this is a one off. Or perhaps it's not the place to get delivery from.
This Latin/Caribbean place has an amazing, fresh salad! So delicious! I had it with shrimp and they were seasoned, cooked perfectly. The staff is so friendly, happy. It's nice to be in a place where people enjoy what they do. The outdoor vibe is also so relaxing and fun.

Love this spot for patio dining! Definitely a great summer spot with yummy mixed drinks (non alcoholic options too!) The proteins are marinated super well with lots of flavor. Love the veggies in the salad with the quinoa, it's filling without being heavy. The salad had amazing salsa on it but not much dressing otherwise. Friendly counter service. I've come during the winter once and the patio is heated but brr it was cold and nowhere to dine inside, so keep that in mind.

really genuinely worth the hype, insane food and drinks are fantastic too. got the chicken, shrimp and veg taco, cleared my plate, husband got the verde pozole and he loved it. read more

yummy pina coladas! The pina colada king for sure! Fair warning theses pineapple are like little rum bombs! Yummy AF Shrimp Tacos with mangos and red cabbage are tasty AF! Service is on point and the staff is super friendly! The musica out side is bussin! Only outdoor seating is available means it's super seasonal for them! Make sure you tip them well! We want to keep them around for the long run The whole vibe is chill and very tropical! Great atmosphere all together! Keep it up! Oh if you're big like me, you might want to avoid the blue plastic chairs. They're a little wobbly. read more
We planned to stop in just to get drinks on the way to a show at Alberta Street pub but ended up getting some food as well. This place is awesome and we decided it's definitely worth a second visit. The drinks were great. I really wish that I got the pina colada because that was the absolute star of the show. From our antojitos order, I loved the smoky ranchera salsa while my husband loved the guacamole. We shared the pulpo; it was great- cooked to perfection, and there was a really nice, chewy flavorful chorizo that it was served with. If we had more time we would have ordered more. We definitely plan to be back. Note that the area is not very large, so you may have to wait for a table after ordering. This is not the type of place you hang out after you eat because of that. But, that said, it is a very cute outdoor area, and they keep tables clean with folks bussing regularly. read more

Tropicale in Portland is like teleporting to a beach paradise without the airfare! The drinks are pure magic potions. Their Piña Colada? It's like drinking a vacation! We stopped here just for drinks but I cannot wait to go back for the food! It looks so delicious. The drinks were so delicious and came out so quick! They have a nice outdoor patio with a ton of seating. Definitely an Instagrammable spot! And love all the other restaurants right by Tropicale if someone wanted something different to eat. read more
This place was so cute. It was in a plaza full of other shops, so definitely check them out! I got a classic pina colada, with a really cute presentable cup! It's nice that they also offer a non-alcoholic version. Their menu also offers a few flight options. read more
Stopped in for some late lunch tacos. The line wasn't too long and the service was pretty quick. I really enjoy the walk up bar vibe and their little covered patio area is quite nice. We did not have to wait for a seat which was for sure a plus. I got pork tacos and they were fantastic. I won't lie $10 for 2 tacos feels a little steep to me but oh well. I also got a virgin pina colada, I got the 16oz and it was amazing. I guess you have to get the largest size for it to come in an actual pineapple but mine was still very cute and yummy. Overall even though the taco and sauce were great I probably wouldn't come here again due to the price. I absolutely enjoyed my meal and the service, no hate, just not really worth it to me to go again. read more

How does one go to Tropicale and NOT get the pineapple? :P Tropicale has been on my list for ages and I finally got a chance to go with some friends! You know your girl got the pineapple pina colada because she could not resist the whole pineapple l o l To be fair, it did taste DELICIOUS. I was a bit troubled by the server who brought it over and sloshed a fair of the drink on the ground before setting it down; but alas, happens to the best of us. Of course, we were all snackish so we had some chips/salsa/guacamole as well as some tostones. My friends all grabbed some tacos but being vegetarian, my option was arepas or maduros. I went with the arepas which were good, but not great. They were filling and the plate was huuuge but they could have definitely benefited from some seasoning, even a little more salt? They just needed some little zap of flavor -- which I achieved by using the dipping sauce the tostones came with. Parking is street parking and can get quite tough so plan accordingly! This place is right next to a couple of other restaurants so you can do a food hop or come with people who want to have a couple of different cuisines. read more
It seemed like everyone was having their cocktails in the table area, so we decided to place an order too! We got three mocktails, a Pina Colada, a Whole Piña and a chef's creation. We ordered mocktails since each of us coulnd not have alcohol for different health reasons. Out of the 3, our favorite was the Whole Piña. It was fun to receive a drink in a pineapple shell, and the refreshing pineapple slushy was what summer is all about: it's delicious, not overly sweet and full of pineapple flavor. If you have tried all the drinks on the menu, you can always ask the chef to bust out a custom drink for you as well. The custom drink that we received had an orange/mango flavor, and it came in a dainty cocktail glass with a slice of orange. Overall, it's a fun place for tropical drinks and I can't wait to try their food next time! read more

Caveat: I haven't eaten much food here -- yet. We have a new bar in our repertoire! The outdoor heated space is super cozy and cute, they've really done a nice job boxing it in but leaving open air for circulation. I was warm enough without my jacket, both times I went, which is so rare on heated patios. The drinks are GREAT -- I've tried both the alcoholic and alcohol-free version of piña colada (omg), the hibiscus toddy, the champurado, and the Oaxacan old fashioned. I was so excited to see they had champurado on the seasonal menu! It was thick and delicious and warming on a pouring Sunday evening. I've had the chips, salsa, and guacamole (twice) -- super fresh chips, I love the pepitas on the guacamole, and one of the salsas was smokey and so tasty with the guac. I'm also a huge fan of their service system, where you order initially inside, but they give you a number with a QR code that links back to your table, so you don't have to get up again to get more drinks or food. Happy Hour has now become a rarity in my life, but after coming here, I need to make it a priority. I met some friends here and we sat outside, and had the best experience. We ordered the Los Maduros (had 2 orders, as it was to delicious for just one) and chips and guac off the Happy Hour menu. Along, with 3 beautiful and delicious drinks- Pina Coloda, Hibicus Maragarita and the Pina Pina. Everyone loved them. You have to go up and order and then they bring the food out to you. The staff was super sweet, and speedy. I joked with our server that she twitched her nose, as our food would magically appear seconds after placing our order. read more
Piña colada review only Happen to have come across this after walking around Glisan. We had lunch before it so unfortunately were too full to try their appetizing looking menu. Definitely a 5/5 for their piña coladas. I love that they had virgin coladas built into their menu & pricing system so that we could have our son could enjoy it too. Really loved the fact that you could choose from different sizes. But overall they were absolutely delicious and it's such a cute location. read more
Found this lovely little Mexican-flavored hideaway on my way to see a band at the Laurelthirst pub down the street. Really nice happy hour, with a tacos n beer combo special for under $15 the night we went. My chicken adobado tacos were excellent, with a nice portion size, pickled red onions and a killer salsa that had a nice heat yet not overpowering. So good with my Pacifico. Super casual, picnic table-heavy setup - the only seats are outside under one of those wood and clear plastic roof type pergolas - but that's pleasant enough on a warm summer night. But that's also why I took a star off. This is kind of a glorified food cart in a sense; go inside and order at the counter (behind which is a kitchen) and a genial server will bring it out to you on the patio. It works great in good weather and there are two other food businesses that share the patio space so you have options too. It's a cool little spot, low key and basic but with above-board meals from the limited menu. read more

One of my favorite spots. We enjoy the set up of ordering inside or using the QR code from the patio. The service is always welcoming and friendly. The drinks are fun and every time I must pay extra for the actual pineapple. The patio is covered which helps no matter the weather. This place is super cute! It's conveniently located in a little corner with other restaurants, wine bar, and even a pie spot nearby. Service was quick - you order at the counter and they'll bring it out to you. The drinks were delightful and refreshing, especially on a hot day. We ordered the spicy mango marg, tropi tropi, and mar de amores. I'll def come back and try the foods. read more

The service here was friendly, and our food was prepared quickly. The outdoor seating was pleasant and it wasn't too busy for a Saturday evening happy hour. We got the happy hour special of two cochinta tacos and a beer for $11. We liked the blue corn torillas, and the tacos had a good amount of meat, but we thought the marinade needed to be bolder and maybe another textural element to the taco. read more
Went at 6:30 on a Thursday on a beautiful day and of course it was busy but the servers were fast to bring out food and drinks. Overall, the food was just okay. The pina colada was alright, everything was very expensive and the portions were small. The pina is $17 and it tastes like pre mixed and barely any liquor. The presentation of the food is nice but the portions are too spendy and too small. Trying to be upscale but having us sit on sticky broken wood tables outside. My experience was just okay. The servers and staff were great, very friendly and answered all questions. read more
