Tropics is a restaurant lounge and bar that has become a go-to spot for my Retro Fitness crew when it comes time to celebrate birthdays and other occasions. We have been going there for years and it has always delivered a good time. The vibe is fun, the music is generally solid, and there is a dance floor to make use of if you are in the mood. Fair warning though -- the speakers are close and the floor can get crowded, so be mindful of where you position yourself or you will be hearing ringing for days afterward. I have actually started considering bringing earplugs on future visits to protect my hearing. It is that kind of loud. As for drinks, I cannot speak to those since I do not drink alcohol. What I can tell you is that the water was perfectly hydrating. The DJ does the usual DJ things -- occasionally cuts a song too early or drops something you are not feeling -- but overall the music selection works and keeps the energy up. I would not come here for a quiet meal. The environment is not built for that. But as a place to gather with friends, celebrate something, and have a genuinely good time, it is a solid local gem. read more

The two stars is for the cooking crew and the staff. The management and the servers are absolutely ridiculous. Horrible and slow service, inconsistent answers. Check out my photos. Came here for happy hour. They had mandated that you order minimum of 8 wings per flavor. My party couldnt finish the wings so we asked to take it to go. First server tells us a Togo box is $3, then he ran off, the second server tells us oh you can't take these to go, then also walks off. Why do you, as the restaurant, get to dictate if I take my food to go so that I don't waste it? This is also in addition to: ranch, blue cheese, celery, which usually comes wings, are ALL $1 additional a piece. As a very social drinker and infrequent indulger of fried, yummy bar food, the last time I frequented Tropix Bar & Lounge was in 2017/2018 on a very short date. FF to 2025, I'm happy to not have to go on any dates anymore and even happier to have shared a fun night out with Retro Fitness Zumba people. Tropix brought the best atmosphere with its cool little party area in the back of the establishment. The bartender who first served me while I waited at the bar (since I got there early) - I think his name was Martin - was very friendly and polite. The blonde female bartender - not very much, but I also didn't deal with her very much. I had two drinks which were made to my liking (I like a little ice in my drinks), and the food was also pretty good (shared one of the Samplers.) It was typical bar food, but it hit the spot. The music was great, we were there celebrating one of the Zumba instructors' birthdays so we danced on the dance floor and had a great time, overall. I believe Gary the owner was also there and was greeting patrons and making sure everything ran smoothly. The place was pretty decently packed for a Saturday night. Many people in other reviews have mentioned the pricing. IMO, they are reflective of current outing prices. $7 beers (~$4 for a club soda was a bit ridiculous, but $15 for a Jack and Ginger Ale is pretty standard.) The only thing I'd note for sure is that gratuity is included which always annoys me, but in this case, it was well deserved. I actually didn't notice it right away and ended up tipping Martin in cash. Once I saw the bill, I told another male bartender that I tipped cash and he right away said no problem and refunded me the amount of the tip I had added onto the card (which I very much appreciated, obviously.) My go to wing spot! Hands down. A local go to place for me. They never fail me when it comes to wings and their calamari. The frozen drinks? Potent! lol but if that's your cup of tea like mine, go for it! The people are the bare always so sweet and quick. The music is fantastic- but do keep in mind if you rent the balcony, you will hear the same music Mr DJ plays downstairs. Additionally, if you're hosting a party, with an additional fee(?), you can include their bar finger food like mozzarella sticks, wings in a gazillion sauce flavors, onion rings, etc. Hubs and I actually ordered Yuca fries and a Guacamole before we even knew she'd have all these little bites. The cocktail menu has everything but an ocean to paddle your toes in. Plus, these folks have a $5 off Check-in offer on their signature pitcher of Sangria- which was tasty and packed real strong. This place has been around for at least 15 years and I've walked by it many times. Recently, I finally decided to go in and give it a try. Tropix is much more spacious than it looks from the outside and in the summertime, they even open up an outdoor seating area on the roof. Amongst the typical Irish pubs all over Queens, this place really stands out with a fun, tropical decor. The food is just okay and is the usual bar food (wings, burgers, nachos, etc) but it was still satisfactory with good portion sizes. The burgers in particular are big and the food is brought out quickly. The drinks are more unique with a diverse selection of colorful and tropically themed cocktails. And you can get most of their drinks on the rocks or frozen. Combined with the very laid back vibe and the friendly staff, this place was great overall. read more

Cruising around in Forrest hills for a place to lounge and grab a bite to eat along with drinks, I stumbled on to this restaurant Tropixsssssssss. We didn't realize how early majority of places close on a Friday night but thanks to Tropixs for being one of the only open late night spots to enjoy yourself with a lively night. As we walked in the music was pumping, definitely a A 70's and 80's musical vibe. Felt like I was cruising down ocean drive in Miami, in a drop top. The staff was exceptional, friendly, on top of things, very timely with all that they do. Inside of tropixs gave a Caribbean, tropical wooden vibe. I ordered the call me a cab which was recommended as one of their strongest frozen drinks, it as in actuality strong and very good, I then followed up the Henny colada it wasn't my favorite but it's passable. I also ordered mozzarella sticks which was tasty. After two drinks I was tapped out lol, the liquor started to hit. I stuck around for about a hour more and vibed out to the music. I. Awesome place for a good time! Besides the bar there is Good size room for small gatherings. Great atmosphere good DJ Friday and Saturday nights plays all kind of music especially Latin also there throw backs are good. Service always friendly on point. Came here to meet up with a friend to watch some playoff football and do some work on our laptops. All of the seats fill up, but not overcrowded. They were running some HH specials, where they were serving 12 wings for the price of 9 wings ($14). I got their Jack Daniels flavored wings, which were pretty decent. Had the pleasure of meeting Gary- the owner of Tropix; who even came over to chat with our group. It was 80's music theme night and the in-house dj spinned some golden 80's oldies. Food was surprisingly tasty, I especially liked the Honey Garlic Chicken Wings (well marinated and crispy). The table also ordered a few plates of fries that came out piping hot and crispy as well- bar food that actually tasted good. It was an after-work get together so my colleagues all ordered drinks (I don't drink alcohol), no complaints from them though. Some magician guy even came over to the table to show a trick or two, pretty decent. Recently we decided to celebrate my hubby's Bday here we had the upper VIP area & it worked out very well to rsvp we had to put down a deposit of $250 & then it's a 2 bottle minimum no biggie basically anything after that is on you. We had a couple of bottles, Johnnie Black, Tito's & 1800 Silver, this comes w a mixer each, additional mixers on u. They also gave a complimentary Moët. For food we had Chimis, Empanadas & Wings all Delicious & were quite the hit at the party. U can bring decorations & a cake which we did, VIP area is a great size we had plenty of room for us our party was a small gathering of 20 u can fit up to 50 with out probably feeling jammed packed. Our waitress for the night was Michelle she was attentive at staying on top of getting additional juices & asking if we needed or wanted anything else. I also had my own bday celebration here a few years back in the below VIP area & that was a lot of fun as well. Gary the owner was great at breaking down & explaining the cost. U have food & drink specials everyday, Tropix steak is delicious, Empanadas, Chimis & of course the star of them all the Wings now with 29 flavors they are delicious , good size, great tasting sauces hard to go wrong here! I told some coworkers to Tropix to have a good time and we definitely did. I partied here regularly for a few year pre covid. We all had such a time. Gary reserved an area for us. Ryan, Kelly, Mishy and Dasha were great. Sorry if I left a timeout. Very attentive. The food was good as always. The music was good too. The vibe was great. The service was great. Highly recommend this place , I had my daughters 30th birthday party here last Sunday April 21st 2024. The owner Gary and his associate were so kind and made this event memorable! We rented the upstairs lounge decorated it, ordered the food and drinks ( the food was delivered hot, and drinks on point) and everyone really enjoyed themselves! Most importantly, my daughter her friends and my family were satisfied with the party results. I've been coming here for years and it was always great the Chicken Wings were amazing as always with a few new sauces, the frozen drinks mixed with the decor we thought we were in Miami for a minute. And when I say the drinks were soooo good, I usually hate frozen drinks because they're not as strong or they're not sweet, they were prefect! And once again as always the customer service is always great, i went during the pandemic and there one bartender, one servicer and probably one chef and it was all one guy lol, he was amazing and was working his ass off, but we had estephanie this time and she was so amazing!!! Had a private party here used the Havana VIP room and it was a great time. The staff is amazing everyone is really friendly even if they aren't for your section. We were late since dinner ran longer but Gary owner he is awesome he came and spoke to us as we arrived just made us feel welcome. He answered all my pesky texts and let me have balloons delivered. I've never had customer service at a space like this before. Everyone in my party had a great time and said they would be back. My family who had food said it was great as well. Decided to meet some friends there for the start of the NFL season. Definitely good to see a solid bar in an area surrounded by franchises. Good vibes in there. They had a DJ playing Caribbean, Hip Hop, Latin, and top hit music which i liked he was also engaging the crowd. They had a Corona bucket special of 5 coronas for 16.
