My family and I spent a day at Yellowstone national park and had our Airbnb near this place. Kind of sucks because this was the only place to eat at near our Airbnb. Anyway, this place is a bar as well so their dining room is combined with sit down tables and the high top bar tables where people are drinking. We came around 7pm Saturday night with a party of 5 and waited for a 20 mins for a table. As soon as we sat down, I noticed how loud the atmosphere was with the people drinking being rowdy and loud. No worries though. The waitresses were nice. My 2 year old though started to get a little cranky due to how loud it was so we just quickly made our orders and ate our orders as soon as possible. I on the other hand ordered the bison burger. Medium well. It was really good! And the fries were fresh and crispy. Even though I couldn't hear my family talking over the table because of how loud it got, we all still enjoyed our food. Great spot in Island Park for food. There's also a lodge attached as well. Mornings are usually pretty slow but seems like lunch and dinner can be really busy - we also were here in the winter so just less people in general. The food is delicious - the breakfast burrito was one of the best I've had. The tots were crispy and had great crunch. read more

This review is for the fly shop and guide service, not the lodge or restaurant. The fly shop is very nice, well staffed, good selection of everything you need (or forgot to bring with you) with friendly service. The guide service was great as well. We fished for 3 days with two different guides. Both were personable, good boatsmen, fun, and professional (e.g., timely, nice boats/trucks, prepared). One put us on to more fish than the other which I think was a mix of experience and water. My only real concern for this area is that **all outfitters** are limited in how many boats they can put on a given stretch of water which has some negative effects for anglers: (1) short runs of about 5 miles or less which results in (2) the guide needing row upstream to slow the descent which in turn (3) makes it more work to stay in a dead drift and not cross lines and (4) there must be some sort of draw to figure out which clients/guides get the good vs. less-good water and I'm guessing senior guides with frequent clients win in that draw. Overall, I'd use them again. Shout out to Ben in particular for not only being fun but teaching us and putting us on to some great fish. read more

Tonight was a huge disappointment. We made reservations for our anniversary. There was no social distancing--every table was packed and close to others. The air conditioning was on too high so it was quite cold inside (and outside). It's very loud in here and there was an obnoxious show on the tv. They sat us at a table right in front of the kitchen so we felt like we were in the way of all the servers. Not romantic at all. Our waitress told us they were out of chicken cordon bleu and halibut--of course the two entrees we wanted and the only chicken and fish options. So I went vegetarian with tomato basil bisque with a house salad (love the Parmesan cheese) and my husband ordered a huge steak with a baked potato. No seasoning on the potato or sautéed mushrooms. Meh. Service was way off tonight. Our waitress didn't clear dirty dishes, refill our water, or ask if we wanted dessert until at least 15 minutes after we were finished with dinner. We passed. ************* I've eaten here several times, so I'm surprised I haven't reviewed it yet. The food and service are always great. Make reservations on weekends and holiday They have tables inside and outside next to the river plus seats at the bar. They have a banquet room. Nice views! When I hire a guide, I hope I'll be paired with a pleasant, patient individual who can share his/her experience fishing the area waters. Instruction on technique, recommendations regarding proper flies as well as identification of local flora and fauna are a bonus. Beware of Kevin Darby of Trout Hunter, Island Park, ID. On a one day float (with my 19 year old son), I was repeatedly chastised by Mr. Darby for failing to meet his expectations. "...I can't believe you just did that!...Really? I mean really?...You'll never catch anything fishing like that...What did I just say? WHAT DID I JUST SAY?...LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME...!" This treatment continued for 4 hours (until I refused to continue fishing.) I was pleased (and puzzled) that Darby only offered words of advice and congratulations to 19 year old son, a fly fishing newbie, who accompanied me on the trip. While I may have been fishing badly, I was in no way attempting to provoke Darby. Yet, when I brought the incident to the attention of shop manager Rich Paini, after offering to refund the day, he felt compelled to tell me that, "Darby is a very popular and highly requested guide among women. Clearly your personalities are not compatible. Unfortunately, this occasionally is the case between guides and clients as it is in all life situations." Huh? I've been a College Studio Arts Professor for 35 years and I've never treated a single student in this highly offensive manner. Then, blaming your guest for the behavior of your guide? I'd skip Trout Hunter entirely. Go with Max Anderson at Gallatin River Guides in Big Sky, MT. He's/ they're awesome. read more

This is a great place with a friendly, attentive staff, wonderful food and the patio is pet friendly and has the Bison Burger. Both cooked to perfection. I like the fact that they offered salad, soup or french fries as sides. The dinner menu looks great as well. If you are anywhere in or near Island Park this place is worth the drive. read more

This lodge has the best guides for one of the best trout fishing spots in the world, Henry's Fork of the Snake River. We had never fly fished before but with the help of our amazing guide, Karlie Roland we were catching Rainbow Trout within the first few minutes of hitting the stream! I'm serious that with Karlie's coaching it was that fast. The first day we caught rainbows, whitefish and D caught five including a brown trout. The lodge has comfy rooms, an excellent restaurant and an amazing bartender! The shop is fully stocked with flies, clothing and rods and reels. You can purchase your fishing permit there as well. The WiFi needs improvement. read more

COME EARLY FOR BRUNCH! Do not arrive after 10AM as you may not be able to get seated. This place is bumping and both times we've gone, we've seen them turn away patrons due to lack of tables before close of breakfast hour. Other than that, this is worth the wait! Staff is cream of the crop! Food is some of the best I've had, and very reasonably priced! We have been multiple times now and have had the Man of Sthiel, Buffalo Steak breakfast Sammy, Biscuits and Gravy, Huckleberry Pancakes, and the chipotle burrito. We'd recommend them all. This review is for the restaurant portion of Trouthunter. If you walk through the restaurant (or around the back) you will find a great patio with a lovely view of the river. There is not a visible road on that side of the restaurant and you can enjoy the fields of cows, running water and mountains from your table. We saw a golden eagle fishing when we were there. The food is just ok for normal standards, but good if you consider that there really isn't much else in the area. The fries and wings seemed like they were frozen instead of made on site, but they still tasted like fries and wings - not bad or anything, just standard. . Mushrooms on the mushroom bruscetta (I think they were wild) were great, but the bruscetta as a dish was sort of weird - the bread was too thick, like garlic bread or something and the dish didn't really go together. The steak sandwich was big enough to share. All in all nothing was *great* but the prices were reasonable and the view made it worth it. Good beer selection and friendly service. read more

It was getting late and we were looking for a decent place to eat at. This place came up and it had pretty decent reviews so I was like why not try it. We drove up and the place is a little confusing. It was dark outside so we thought they were closed but they weren't. We walked up and just sat down. There were a handful of people there so it wasn't too busy. Our server Karisa came up to us and she was really nice and helpful. We weren't too sure on what items to order and she recommend the burgers and the Salmon. I had the soup of the day which was amazing. My burger was great and huge. I also tried the Bloody Mary and that was very well made! Best Bloody Mary I had the entire trip up North. I was searching Yelp for a place as you exit West Yellowstone park. It gets a little confusing because this is not only a restaurant but also store and I think also a place you can stay. Anglers were the main crowd in this restaurant. The restaurant part is called Last Chance Bar & Grill: which is a little fancier than we imagined. There is an attached bar but we luckily caught right at the end of lunch. It is fine dining in a causal atmosphere. Snagging a seat by the window that overlooks a beautiful river let us relax and take in the sun coming down in the sky. We crave burgers a lot but I am glad that I got one cause we had not eaten most the day and the size of the patty was not going to scare me off today. I wanted the Last Chance Burger: Lettuce, tomato, onion, toasted bun, choice of cheese - and normally I am not a cheese girl but this time I did. The fries are nice thick cut fries. Hubby got Hickory Burger House-smoked BBQ sauce, bacon, onion rings, toasted bun, choice of cheese. The burger was stacked! We both devoured our burgers. Very juicy and tasty. We watched lots of anglers come in and start to get drinks as their fishing day was done. We had to keep moving on our road trip but was happy to find this little stop. This is one of the best places you will find in the area. We have been stopping here for years on our way to Yellowstone or saying at the Herriman Ranch to get in a family fly fishing trip. The food, drinks, and service here are great in the restaurant and the fly outfitter shop does a great job of keeping up on what is working in the local areas and carry anything you may have forgotten to bring with for your adventure. I haven't stayed in the Inn portion, looks like a few nice rooms with great views of the river. Really nice family run place that remembers us year after year. read more

She put us on fish in tough weather conditions. I am a better fisherman because of her, she's a great teacher as well as guide. Found this amazing place for breakfast. We ordered french toast, buscuit and gravy, pancakes and omlet. Our waitress was super nice and friendly. She suggested a couple of places for us to visit here at island park. My husband said it was the best buscuit and gravy he's ever had and my boy ate ALL of his french toast - very rare sighting. "Grizz"is the best guide I have ever had in 30 years of fly fishing out here. Fly shop - aloof, arrogant, unhelpful douchebags. They act like you should be honored to be in their presence. Ignorant cashiers selling overpriced schlock to gullible tourists. One guy literally sneered at me for asking if they had any Gink. Apparently it wasn't the cool floatant last year. Steak was good, not medium rare as ordered but medium well. Service was ehh, had to wait 20 min just get water, then another 15 for drinks before we even ordered food. I felt like there must be another way in only to be disappointed. The rooms were roughly the price of the JW and although the scenery was gorgeous you shared the entire balcony with the entire floor of guests. The food was....well it's Idaho so maybe romain, iceberg, and arugula lettuce is all the same to the chefs but again awkward when ordering a salad and you're not quite sure if it's a joke or not.
