We were in Greece last April and I've been searching for the Greek salad that is closest to the food I had in Greece. Troy is close but needs much more cheese. Our selections were flavors we hadn't tried yet. There was enough food for four people. My daughter and I tried our best to eat for the other two invisible people. We had a pleasant feast. Of our order, the Saksuka fried eggplant and potatoes was nice and different. For my meal, I had the Iskender plate: beef gyro topped with spicy tomato sauce. I needed more spice. First of all we didn't like the service and the treatment with the customer. We went there for the first time and as new customers we expected a nice welcome, for everything we asked they said "they only serve in lunch menu" but we told them that we will pay the extra amount if they make it for us, they accepted and it turns out that all they are interested in is money, not satisfying the customer. I mean, for the money they accepted to prepare the lunch meal but they could do it without the extra payment to satisfy the customer and make him their permanent customer. Anyways! Then they brought the cutlery which was a failure! The fork was dirty. And they didn't even apologize for that. And the "iskender" food was also a disappointment, the bread under the meat was old and the sauce was not from fresh tomato but from tomato paste (which makes worse the particular taste of the food). And the "tantuni" (wrap) tasted like nothing. It had nothing to do with the original tantuni. Also "ayran" (yogurt drink) tasted sour (which means it is old, not fresh) and was awful. Anyway, they lost at least their new customers. A total disappointment. read more

Unique location/building in a strip center but once we walked in, got a warm greeting from the hostess/waitress/server. It's a limited menu but seems very authentic Greek food. We enjoyed a hummus appetizer that was some of the best I've had. The pita bread was sliced very thinly and limited in portion but I actually liked that. It's too easy to fill up on bread and this helped us focus on hummus with less bread. My companions ordered the gyro plate the twice and I took portions of their food. With the hummus that was plenty for three people. Again, a very small pita service but it was accompanied by rice and a crisp salad with pickled cabbage - yum. The gyro meat was thinly sliced and delicious, maybe a bit oily. Still and authentic tasting meal presented with a smile and really all very good. Not your typical overstuffed gyro with a load of fries. This was more home cooked feeling. I wish they gave a little more tzatziki but I guess we could have asked. If I have to criticize anything it would be my hot tea. I was expecting something aromatic like a cardamom or something like that but it was a basic black tea with no special flavors. The food didn't wow me enough for this place to be a destination, especially at its price points - but I think the place's vibe and principles (locally sourced ingredients, etc) are notable enough for it to be successful in this part of town among neighborhood residents. Troy provides something that no other places have yet provided in this part of town - a relaxing and comfortable place to mingle, study, and explore an ethnic cuisine. As for prices, they may have better offerings during happy hour, or deals, to attract a wide variety of customers to its benefit, but I wasn't able to take advantage of it when I came to visit. The closest similarity to this place I can think of at the moment is Opa in South Austin's South Lamar district. A great addition as a neighborhood joint to meet up with friends. read more

I believe it is family-owned and I can tell they really care about the quality of service and the quality of their food. Everything was absolutely delicious. The falafel appetizer was small but mighty. None of that fake, over-fried green balls you sometimes find in town. The hummus it came with was fresh as well. I ordered something I've never heard of before, the Iskender kebab which was "Prepared from thinly sliced gyro topped with warm tomato based Iskender sauce over pieces of pita bread and top on grilled tomato, green pepper, generously pouted browned melted butter. Served with yogurt on the side" It was light, warm, and the meat was so good. My partner got a combination of meats, rice, and salad. We will definitely be back and we'll spread the word! I had another errand on Mesa today, so looked for a place nearby from which to pick up lunch. Troy's reviews were great, so I placed an order. First the ordering experience was really great. I was able to order directly on Troy's website, there were good descriptions for all food items, and most had pictures. Super great bonus was that I was able to complete and pay for the order with Apple Pay. When I arrived at the restaurant a few minutes before my promised food readiness time, I was super impressed with the cozy vibe of the place. Post-pandemic this is definitely a place that I would like to come to eat at in person. I also noticed right away that there was a table full of bags ready to go for take-out. In my mind this was a good sign that they had a lot of other orders. Even though I was early, my order was just being bagged up as I arrived, and was handed to me with an offer of plasticware and a smile. When I got home I was incredibly impressed with the food. I had the lamb kavurma. This dish was bite size pieces of lamb in a flavorful sauce served with rice, a salad and half a pita. The salad blew me away with the quality and variety of leafy greens. Most places don't put that much effort into their side salad. The quality of these greens was like that at a high end farm-to-table establishment. The rice was yummy and dare I say "buttery." The lamb was tender and while I thought the portion was generous enough to have leftovers, I found that I had finished it all! This hidden gym does everything right. Delicious food, great service, some Turkish wines underpriced for their quality I mean, really. We enjoyed a bottle of Kav Angora for $27. Small mom and pop Turkish restaurant sharing the same parking space with a gas station. It doesn't look like much from the outside and is easy to miss. In fact, the few times I have been there, it's been pretty dead and my visits have been around closing time on the weekends. It's cute on the inside with various tea sets as decor. I've had Turkish food before in Germany but never in the states. I have to say, the food here is as high quality as the ones I have had there with some caveats. I've tried the Beef Iskander in the past and I highly recommend it (10/10). If some variety is needed or you wanna sample, then the Mixed Kebab Plate should be the choice. It comes with Kofta Kebab (9/10), Chicken Tantuni which is chicken cubes with some spicy seasoning (8/10) and beef doner (6/10..way too salty for my liking). Both my wife and I agree - Our favorite dish is the Lamb Kavurma which is just perfectly seasoned, coming on a bed of salad and rice. BTW, we love the simple salad there - it's quite fresh with a lemony taste to it! Service while not professional, has been warm and homey as you would expect from a mom and pop shop. Prices are slightly higher than what I remember from a year ago. I believe it used to come with a complementary dessert which it no longer does. And don't expect any leftovers. With that said, portions are still reasonable for the price and we always leave satisfied. I don't know of any other authentic / non fusion Turkish restaurants in the Austin Area so this place is truly a gem and I hope they are able to stay open and give all of us foodies a chance to try out some authentic Turkish cuisine! read more

I've passed this place a million times but never thought to try it because it is so inconspicuous from the outside, but a friend suggested it and it was a very pleasant surprise. The mezze sampler was great, as was the shrimp skewer + Greek salad, and my friend said his Turkish chicken meatballs were really good, too. We ended with pistachio baklava that were not too syrupy sweet and Turkish coffee, which was served in a beautiful little silver dish. The restaurant was really charming inside, too. So we ordered three meals for two people last night from Troy and they definitely gave us less food then the first time. We paid $82.55(included the driver fee) for three meals. That wasn't enough at all! We only got half pita bread for three meals. There was a bit meat in Iskender kebab . They all taste good but so pricey for such a little meal. Hands down the best Mediterranean food I have EVER had. All the meet ya were seasoned to perfection. I got the Troy Mix (I cant remember the exact name) but it's pretty much a sampler of 3 meats and a side salads and rice. I did not get the rice so they doubled up on the salad. On a quest for authentic flavor - Troy is something distinct for sure. Right at the entrance, their humbling presence is just a start! I tried their İskender kebap and and let me tell you, it is a mix of flavors worth trying over and over. The Buklava is also a must, especially for those with a sweet tooth - simple and delicious. And let's not forget, the humus, . Lastly, I had the chance to try Ayran, which is a yogurt based beverage, which has taste of something like a yogurt beer.
