As others have stated large portions do not make up for the lack of real BBQ taste, flavor or texture. Brisket was dry. Pulled pork was stringy and largely flavorless. Just a lot of pork without any burnt ends, smoke ring or spice. Mac and cheese was cheesy and decent. Slaw seemed like industrial run of the mill variety you might get from Sysco. Food is delicious, been here 3 times and everytime food is good. I've only eaten their sandwiches. I live down in Plantation and anytime I'm up this way for work, I make sure I stop in for some BBQ. If they were down south I'd probably try everything on the menu by now. read more

Finally a great barbecue place and it's not affiliated with some disgusting food chains i.e. Parks barbecue. I've had the pleasure and good fortune to travel and lived in various places affording me the luxury of trying foods associated with them and ribs of course being one of them. I lives out west CA., mid-west, Chicago, all eastern states multiple times and no ribs are delectable, meaty, and worth every penny as Troy's. I say call in advance after knowing what why're offering via the net and menu, and take your food to the beach for a sunset meal and bring plenty of napkins and hand sanitizer. Stopped in for lunch. Totally not what I expected. When they say down home and southern they are correct. Had the beef brisket sandwich and my Husband had a pork sandwich. The meat was so tender and moist. The sauce was off the chain. The lemonade was so sweet and cold. Friendly staff. We are willing to visit again from Wellington. read more

4 stars-wtf??? This is definitely a 5 Star BBQ joint. It is amazing. We ordered the brisket sandwich, rib sandwich and beef rib...all fantastic. The Mac n'Cheese is perfect-cheesy gooey goodness. The corn bread also perfect-not too sweet not too dry. But let's get down to the bbq-smoky loveliness that brought out the natural meaty flavors of each meat we tried. Loved the bbq sauce...tangy goodness. All sandwiches were on super soft potato bread/buns to soak up the meaty juices and bbq sauce to create an unctuous totally awesome sandwich. Made a second trip to the new location. Heard they added a couple new sauces to complement their great menu of tasty meats. Ribs, pulled pork and brisket must be the best in Palm Beach County. Succulent, juicy and plenty of it. Finally, I don't have to drive to Tom Jenkins for good BBQ. Excellent staff great service. Love the soul music playing inside too read more

This is my first negative review and I feel bad putting 1 star but I'm a big brisket fan and this was the most disappointing meal I have had in a while. The meat seemed very low grade, possibly previously frozen, and was a dry odd brown color. The crust was a mushy rubbery mess you can't even eat and it was full of big nasty fatty blobs not a quality marbling of fat I see in good brisket. Dry and not as tender as a good brisket with a mediocre flavor at best. Thankfully their bbq sauce was decent and I just used that to moisten and give it some flavor and mask the d grade beef flavor. The sides of candies yams and Mac and cheese were all I ended up eating. And the Mac n cheese wasn't even very good either. Yams were decent but u out sugar on anything and it's good typically. They were a little hard and chewy in my opinion. Over priced and low quality. 4 of us tried it and none of us finished it. I gave 3/4 of a $50 meal to my dogs. Hope their ribs are better than the brisket but seeing as he smokes at 350° I doubt anything of his is worth paying for. That's oven temp not smoker temp. Can't express my disappointment enough. Food is five star. Service is 0 stars. They're just not properly organized. Items listed on the menu should be on hand to a customer that requests that item. I've went there several times and got used to asking what sides do they have today vs looking at the menu. The food is great when they do have it. I have drove off several times for reasons such as no order taker at window. a one hour wait on ribs, Troy went to the store to get some bread and we don't have change. This is a roadside barbecue, one picnic table outside under a tree. BUT!! The food is awesome, you can buy a meal, or by the pound. The rib tips are suculent little bites of wonderful that are a little cheaper than the babyback, but just as good! Greens potato salad baked beans , slaw, mac and cheese, and sweet potato pie!! I pass by the other places to go to Troy's. For the reviews that mention the way the chicken sandwich is served... that IS how its done in a soul food kitchen, a chicken sandwich has a piece of chicken and two slices of bread, and maybe some hot sauce. I live in Fort Lauderdale so I am not in this area very often but last Sunday (27JUL14), of all days, I was in Boynton Beach and decided to take the slow road back South and just as I got on Federal Highway to a remote, older section, I stumbled upon one of the greatest Bar-B-Que places I have ever been to, I couldn't believe they were open on a Sunday but I'm sure glad they were. Troy's is a homey, good old fashioned, southern hospitality style take-out restaurant with picnic tables out front, under a big shade tree attended by nice friendly staff. Great food as well - needless to say. I met a couple of workers and the owner and everyone was very proud of what they serve. The owner, who's name I can't remember had that "twinkle" in his eye as though he knew his food was special, prepared with love - and his customers can taste it!! As I was getting ready to leave with my order of chopped pork, mac an cheese and collards, I just had to have a quick taste before getting back on the road. Everything was so unusually good that I went back inside to compliment the folks who work there. I met the owner who is a very genuine person and he offered me some free ribs to take along and try as well. Super great folks with super great food!! I travel the US quite often and I'm always on the prowl for good BBQ, especially secret places like Troy's. You gotta try this place! This review comes from a very fussy eater, especially when it comes to BBQ and if this stuff wasn't awesome, I would have probably tossed it in the nearest dumpster or out the window on the way back home. In fact, do me a favor, please go back there again, try the ribs and re-rate this place as I am sure you will give the ribs five stars. I am not from Florida and wherever I travel I always like to try BBQ as that is really my favorite meat and potatoes meal. I initially went to Troy's on a Thursday to get some brisket as that is my favorite BBQ to eat. I got there around 1PM and was surprised that they were closed. They had a sign saying that Troy's will open on Sunday and I wasn't sure if that meant that they will reopen the following Sunday or if they were only open on Sundays, it was rather confusing. Friday came around and I again got an itch for BBQ brisket. I called Troy's and a person answered and told me that they will be open at 3:30 so I decided to give it a shot. I got there around 5:30 and was disappointed that they don't have any brisket. I went ahead and ordered a chicken sandwich, brother wanted a slab of ribs to share and a side order of candied yams. When I got the chicken sandwich, I was extremely disappointed as I had assumed it was shredded like I had in other BBQ places, but it wasn't, it was just huge chunks of chicken. The first bite into the sandwich I bit into a whole wing, bones and all, and I got really disgusted. I tried pushing on because I am not big on ribs, but there was no way I can as the chicken was so dry. I cut my losses, threw out the chicken and got started on the ribs. Now I am not a big fan of ribs. Had them in several places, but never was a big fan. In fact, whenever I would go somewhere, I would order my trusted brisket and just a couple of ribs to try, but I would never order ribs as a main dish and I never really liked the couple of ribs I got with my brisket anyway. With that said, the ribs at Troy's are ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! So tender, they just fall off the bone and are just perfectly spiced. Dip them in Troy's spicy BBQ sauce and you will be in heaven. These are by far the BEST ribs I have ever had anywhere. The candied yams were also unbelievable and I couldn't make up my mind which one I wanted to finish the meal with as both left this incredible taste in your mouth. Troy's is a tiny little shack and I'm not sure if it is a real business or just a hobby; when I got there, there was a guy eating inside and another guy making the food, that's it. They had no seating inside and only a picnic table outside that is not that great as it is right next to the trash, so don't go there expecting to sit down and eat. You are either going to eat on the hood of your car or you are going to take it home and eat there. I want to be clear that I am not giving this place 5 stars as its a little shack with no seating, neither am I giving it 5 stars for the food as I agree with David that the chicken was awful, however I am giving this place 5 stars for the ribs and candied yams and if they had a rating higher than 5 stars here I would give it to them again specifically for the ribs. For those of you who like BBQ ribs and looking for a place, there is no question that Troy's is the place for you, just make sure to call them to see if they are open. read more

My husband and I have traveled the US for the best BBQ. Now I know when it is said "You find your happiness in your own back yard". Troy's BBQ by far the best barbecue I have ever eaten. I've been all over the world and this is BY FAR the worst experience and food I've ever tasted! Just want to warn you. I ordered the BBQ chicken and BBQ pork sandwich with a side of fries... The chicken was breast plate and wings/bones between toasted white bread. The pork tasted like lighter fluid and my first bite was a shard of bone. Not to mention there was very little pork and a lot of fat.... I hate wasting food but this immediately hit the trash can and ruined my appetite for the rest of the night :( read more

Troys BBQ is amazing, one of my favorites in the palm beach area! No indoor seating, just a pick up window but that shouldn't stop anyone. Hands down, best baked beans and collards I've had to date. My boyfriend got the pulled pork sandwich and I got the chicken sandwich. A little disappointed with my sandwich because it was literally hacked right off a chicken, bone in all. I spent about ten minutes picking all the chicken off the bone to put back onto my sandwich. Kind of annoying, I've never had a chicken sandwich full of bone before, can't understand the reasoning behind that - but hey, it was still awesome! read more

They were out of collard greens unfortunately so will have to rate them next visit. Not an elegant dining experience by any means. No inside seating, well, no seating at all actually.
