Just moved here last week; this is our new favorite go-to place. The food is surprisingly good for "just" a walk-up counter place. But then again this place has history. We've had the fish sandwich, fried shrimp, & corn fritters. But the best was the conch fritters. The guy standing next to us said they were great, and they are. I ordered takeout. 4 piece fried chicken dinner. It was very small pieces. I ordered 3 thighs & 1 leg. I received 4 thighs. They were the smallest thighs I have ever received from Bud's and were cold. The French Fries were cold as well. We have been eating at Bud's for years and never had such a bad experience. I know that Boynton Beach Blvd is under construction near this place. Maybe that was the problem. They hardly had any customers in the store. Maybe this location is closing down. So my wife and I really enjoy clam strips and we order 4 clam appetizers for take out. Upon opening the bag we realized that the portion sizes were ridiculously small. The sauce cup in the tray took the majority of the space and the fried clams were almost non existent. Also it was mostly small crunchy bit and barely any clam. I felt as if i was just eating fried breading. I also ordered the fried chicken thigh. the thigh pieces are well sized and the chicken was moist and crispy but unfortunately lacked seasoning and a bolder flavor. read more

There are a lot of chicken joints in my town. Even a new Cane's, though I have no idea why anyone would want to wait in line for it... But for my money, there's none better than Bud's. Harking back to the days when drive thru food was actually decent, Bud's gives you good portions, of really good food, at a pretty good price. Doesn't matter if you stay and eat inside or just drive thru, the service is always good and friendly, the food is always hot, and they've never messed up my order yet. Silly cartoon mascot? Check. I've had pretty much any member of my family that has ever encountered Bud's rave about the fish here. So I don't eat fish but they also have chicken in their name so this is what brought me in. Since it was my first visit, I went with the Quickie which consisted of three chicken fingers, a side (online you have more choices but drive-thru chick only mentioned cole slaw or fries) and two corn fritters. I added a small coleslaw on anyway, and for the sauces, bbq and tartar. This was REALLY good chicken. The tenders were generous in size which enabled me to also have dinner as well as lunch with the same meal. I did enjoy the cole slaw and my chosen side of crinkly fries. Although they offer plenty of different sauces, I stuck with what I know and devoured them both. Next time, I'll play my cards right and probably get the dinner version of this since it was that good, even the second time around! A bonus when in the Florida area. read more

Wow. My second time at Bud's was a BIG difference then the first. I ordered take out this time and what a greasy mess. The Clam Strips were all burnt ends. The scallops were overcooked. Oh and the "crab cake" looked like a hockey puck. The only edible item was the cod fillets. I ordered Mac & Cheese and got macaroni salad. The fries weren't cooked either. We came by here today and tried Buds Chicken and Seafood. We ordered the seafood combo's which included two sides . I had coleslaw and mashed potatoes as my sides . My husband also had seafood combo with coleslaw and fries . Combo consists of big shrimps, two corn fritters, some fried fish and scallops! All very good . Would like to say only bad is their coleslaw is bland to us . Not much flavor . Big fries and were good . We also ordered buffalo wings which were also good Would we order it again ?? Yes we would! First night in town and wanted fast casual seafood. I was a bit disappointed they didn't have catfish and chicken but what we had was fine, though greasy. The filets are small but they give you a bit extra to make up for it. The corn fritters were better than I expected. Their sides are traditional beans, potatoes, cold mayo based salads, or jello. I tried a crab cake which was ok. Very fishy. They did have hot sauce, malt vinegar, and tartar sauce as options. We were stuffed and a box full home with us. Bud's seafood and chicken is a Classic place! It's definitely stamped as one of the "Go To" restaurants in South Florida for locals and tourist. They revamped the outside of the building including the drive thru area as well as the entrance and it looks more modern which is a plus. The inside area has new display menus other than that it's decor is the same way it's been for years nothing changed. Buds typically hires high school students and children who just become of age to work from the community but the actual cooks and line mangers are all vets and have been with Buds for many years. Customer service is okay and could be better. A lot of the times when you come inside the staff is always laughing, giggling and playing around with each other. Which can be a little frustrating especially when they always forget some part of My order. Even the smallest things like ketchup, napkins, lemon for the seafood etc. The food is always hot and fresh but the prices have continued to rise over the years and now a small dinner has less food in it but the price has gone up tremendously. Whether it's still worth it to come to this restaurant is still to be determined lol. Only because I grow up in the area and grow up eating here often as a child, teenage and now an adult. Buds has great Vet's working there like Steve and ofc the owner Tim is still there working weekly as well. My first ever Bud's visit. Everything was adequate- had the 3 piece fish. I would have been satisfied with my meal, except that the young lady who checked me out said that the portions were small and she would bring me another piece. I thanked her and sat down- she proceeded to socialize and never produced. The meal- fish, beans, slaw - were passable, I would have been satisfied. The issue is unmet expectations, due to staff socialization. That's a management problem. read more

Bud's is a staple down here, and the quality of food they make had always been consistent. I typically get their finger quickie which includes 3 chicken fingers, crinkle fries and 2 corn fritters but their menu screen sold me on a fried oyster dinner instead. It includes fried to order oysters, 2 sides and 2 corn fritters. I'm sure it's not for most people but it was very good, size of the oysters were just right and overall portion was generous just like all of their meals. It's a fast food restaurant with fast food prices but without the fast food quality. You honestly can't go wrong with any of their menu items. read more

This was a surprise. We'd eaten at another Bud's in Lake Worth quite a while back and it was just okay. This particular Buds was head and shoulders above that one -- so much better. Really good. We wound up here cause I was telling my friend and fellow Elite Yelper Lisa H about some great clams I'd eaten in Fort Lauderdale. She suggested I try this Buds for their clam strips when next in the area. That being said, although I don't usually get clam strips now and I'd probably have tried their chicken, I wound up ordering an appetizer portion of fried clam strips and adding on a couple corn fritters (you can buy them individually for 50 cents each). The clams strips were pretty good. And at a very reasonable price. They reminded me of the ones I'd eaten as a kid at Howard Johnson's, but better. I even liked the fritters -- slightly sweet, mainly batter with a just few whole corn kernels in each. My husband got their lunch combo number 5 (we'd seen this one line) -- it was chicken tenders and fried shrimp. Instead of fries, he chose another side: potato salad. He really liked their chicken -- all white tender meat in a light crispy batter; and also liked their shrimp a lot too. He said he'd get this same combo again, next time, but with a different side (the potato salad was just okay). BTW, there is no inside dining now. You can either go through the drive through or order at the side door. The line for the drive through was insane -- really really long. You can also call your order in or order online. Either way, it's better to go to the side door than wait in the long car line for your food pickup. Ordering at the side door (and paying there too) was easy. They then call the number on your receipt when it's ready. There are a few benches and a bit of shade to wait (socially distanced) for your order. We ate in the car. A bit messy, but doable. The food at Buds is great. We had a couple of bumps yesterday. We ordered 2 dinners a fish and a fish/ shrimp dinner. Fish dinner the corn fritters were missing and the shrimp dinner was short 2 shrimp. Never have had a problem before. We will be back, hopefully just a one time occurrence. read more

This was my first experience was takeout from Bud's - I was pleased to say the least! The Fried Shrimp was 10/10. Southern comfort food at its finest. Fried shrimp was tasty with the house made cocktail sauce, it has a zing because of the horseradish. The hush puppies were the perfect combination of crunch on the outside and warm soft corn nugget inside. I don't eat coleslaw but my mother loves the coleslaw from Bud's. The shrimp and the fries were very fresh. I would return to Bud's for any fried southern comfort foods. read more

I remember the stapled-together cardboard plates we used to get on Friday nights in the 1970's and '80's after work--3 or 4 pieces of chicken, fries, etc. It was wonderful! Then, they moved to a spot in Delray between North and South US1. It was also wonderful. THEN, I think the city made them close, so they moved to Boynton Beach. Since I retired up state, I only get here when I have an appointment in the area. BUT, I still love their chicken. They do what they do better than anyone around. They're also very nice people.
