Prices are reasonable, especially when you consider the high quality of the plants that are more reasonable that other locations in the area and the extensive supply of hard to find variety. Their rockstar of a resource is Pierce- a brilliant, pleasant, patient, and hard working gentleman- who will go all out to make sure you have a great experience. He will help you source a particular plant if he can find it in the many fantastic stock nurseries where they obtain their plants and trees, and follow it along to let you know when it has arrived. If you have a gardening project you know there are many places where you feel like just another number but you don't feel that way with Pierce. There are so many poor & negative reviews about quality, customer service, and taking ownership at Troy's Landscape that this review could pretty much be a copy of others. If you expect plants with quality, go to Faddegon's. If you expect customer service go to Faddegon's or Hewitts. If you expect a 100% warranty go to Faddegon's or Hewitts or some big box. In fact, if you want a positive experience go to any other greenery store in the Capital District. I think that says it all, but here is my experience at Troy's Landscape. I have a green thumb and have been successfully caring for indoor & outdoor plants for decades. Two years ago we purchased three blue point juniper from Troy's Landscape. Each 5-6' tall and $650 total. Planted them in a new bed of virgin topsoil also purchased from Troy's Landscape. Thoroughly watered thru summer and fall as required. After the winter, last spring they had about 20-30% browning and death. I trimmed them out and continued to care. They kind of recovered last summer but obviously were sparse and didn't grow back. This spring - all three died by April. Contacted Troy's and after two emails and five calls finally got someone interested in talking. They say since my $650 investment is more than two yrs old they won't honor anything even a store credit. Basically, tough crap customer, have a nice day as we rob you of your hard earned cash. I dug out the three juniper. Their roots were dead with less growth than expected due to size. The root balls were full of rocks and clay. No wonder - they starved to death. Faulty product. Buyer beware. if you want a positive experience, quality products, warranty, or customer service go to any other greenery store in the Capital District. Avoid Troy's Landscape and their customer service like the plague. read more

First time going to Troy Landscape Supply today to buy perrenials for a two-tier retaining wall. I asked the lady there at the register if there was someone that could assist me in finding the right kind of plantings for my retaining wall. She called George over. I showed him the picture and asked him to give me ideas. He was very good explaining the different plants and how big they would get, flowering length, etc. So he went and got the truck and loaded what I wanted (want he suggested) and loaded all into my car. This was my fourth and last time ordering materials. On one of my previous orders, they missed the delivery date that they agreed to. They were able to deliver the next day, which I was annoyed about but it did not affect my plans. Placed an order this past Tuesday for a Friday delivery. No show. They told me on the phone that I was scheduled for the following Tuesday. They then realized their mistake and tried to offer Monday. Told them I needed it for the weekend, so forget it and refund me. If you're going to offer me dates that you can't stick to, I will take my business elsewhere. read more

We came here today to get our Christmas tree something we have done as a family for many years and they have not let us yet. They are so friendly here and help you through the process from beginning to end. They even cut a fresh bottom and tie it to your car for you. This year things have changed a little bit though, they moved the store part more in the back of the building which was hard to find at first but once we found it it was fine. Also they now have a goat on the premises that you can pet along with hot chocolate and hot apple cider that is free for you to enjoy along with cookies and candy canes. They are going to also have pictures with Santa at some point soon as well. This is a great place to support and come to get your tree and your Christmas needs and I really do recommend it to anyone that can come here and be a part of this experience. First, I would like to say I have been a customer of Troys landscaping since The early 90's. This past winter, Troy retired and sold his business. In August, I visited Troys Landscaping and I bought over $100 worth of perennials. I planted them right away and watered them religiously. Within two weeks they had died. I took pictures of them and went back to Troys to find out what happened and to see if they would warranty them. I talked to "Mike" one of the new co-owners, he told me I did not water them enough (which is not true) and he DOES NOT WARRANTY ANY OF THEIR PLANTS OR FLOWERS . Needless to say, he just lost a long time customer. This is the thanks I get for buying from a local business. I could have easily stopped At Lowe's or Home Depot and saved time and $ but instead I drove past them on the way to Troys. Not going back. $100 down the drain. #missyouTroy read more

Last Fall I went to Troy's Landscape Supply to purchase the largest Star Magnolia and Rose of Sharon they had. A helpful person drove me in a golf cart to find the shrubs. He had trouble finding the Star Magnolia and called the office for the location. Eventually he found one in the back; it had a large root ball and was about 4' high. It was $250+ (as was the Rose of Sharon). Subsequently I opted to pay for delivery and placement in the holes that I dug. I looked forward to see the early Spring blooms of the Star Magnolia. This never happened. Later in the Spring, small white flowers appeared - but were clearly not Star Magnolia petals. I returned today with the intention of discussing the Star Magnolia issue and to purchase another (expensive) Rose of Sharon. I explained the problem with the Star Magnolia but was met with bemused indifference and "you picked the plant". I assured them that I did not pick the plant - a Troy's Landscaping person (the cart driver) took me to the Star Magnolia. This was followed by "I'm not sure what you want us to do about it." Surprised, I said "how about a discount on a Rose of Sharon purchase?" Not exactly rocket science but the clerk didn't seem to like my suggestion; he went into an office to discuss it with someone. A woman came out of the office and offered me a 10% discount - take it or leave it. Surprised and irritated, I left. There was never a "sorry there was a problem". I won't be back - apparently they don't value repeat customers who spend $600+ on 2 shrubs. I will write a separate review on problems with the delivery. read more

I've had all good experiences with Troy Landscape. Very friendly, helpful staff answered all of my questions about care of my plants and were very clear about return policy at time of purchase. My perennials I planted last year are doing great, and I just picked up more to plant this year and can't wait to see how good they look after I get them in the ground. All my plants look very healthy. I'm also very impressed with how organized they are for check-out and with getting your purchases loaded into your vehicle. My only problem is the selection is so good that it's hard for me to get out of there within my budget! So I have to keep disciplined! About a week ago my wife and I was impressed with the assistance and inventory of plants Troy Landscape Supply has available. We spent what we felt like was a lot of money ($300) on flowers and landscape materials. One day after bringing home the plants (New Guinea Impatiens) they started wilting!! We told the attendant exactly what we needed and where the plants would be so we were surprised how fast the plants went bad, not to mention it was only ONE DAY! Here's the kicker, my wife called them and spoke to a woman who said, "TAKE AND SEND PICTURES TO THE EMAIL ADDRESS AND SOMEONE WILL GET BACK TO YOU". Huh?! Really after ONE DAY?! My wife waits and waits, my wife is soo patient with people even after 3 combat tours and 22 years in the military, (a frigin' week!) then she emails them again and still nothing!!! It's been a FULL WEEK NOW and 4 out of the 7 plants are wilted. I would suggest everyone stay away from this place, their customer service is the worst!! THIS PLACE GETS ZERO STARS IN MY BOOK! **I know my family's Veteran status has nothing to do with our patience or how well we should get treated...but com'on all my wife wanted was a nice yard by the time her sister visited this Memorial Day weekend and these yahoos couldn't give her a call back..thats lame! read more

I went there a few weeks ago to get 20 bushes, I shopped around at multiple places and this was more expensive but they had almost everything is looking for. A few of the bushes I bought were a little spotty and not so perfect looking but that bush selection was very limited and the salesman said they were fine. Now 3 of those are diseased and dying. (There are 3 more that arent so great looking now but after planting them I didnt like their color but I didnt complain about those). I bought their moo mix to help them grow even better like the salesman said. I took care of them planted them immediately and watered them often. I called up, explained my story and asked if they can replace them and they basically said that all of their plants are perfect and I would have to pay 50% to replace them. $80 - $90 isnt much but its the principal... I paid for good quality and I guess its my fault for not going with my gut. If I gave my customers something that was broken I would replace it for free...but thats MY philosophy. I give this place an extra star for size and selection but I wouldnt shop here again. read more

Your store and employees are the BEST! My girlfriend and I went shopping for a replacement shrub Thursday morning. Eli, and Jordan went the extra mile to assist with our selections for new shrubs and annuals explaining why they recommended a particular plant. They showed us different options for a shady area and gave us a lot of choices to help us decide what arborvitae would be best for our needs. Got a christmas tree from here and it was hands down the best Christmas tree buying experience I have ever had. I realize that sounds ridiculous but I had more fun picking put the tree with their staff then we did drinking and decorating. They had a nice bonfire going and cider. Buyer Beware! Spent $400 at Troys last Spring (May 18) to add holly to my new home's front landscaping. Planted them correctly and watered appropriately through last year's hot summer. When I returned from Florida yesterday, they were all dead. Called this (6/2) morning to see what to do. Had hang tags from plants and VISA statement showing charges. Was told without their pink receipt they'd do nothing and since it was after a year they'd probably still do nothing even if had it. Well, that's a lousy approach to customer service....NEVER AGAIN. We been buying perennials from Troy's for a few years now. However we just had a very bad experience and we will never go back there again. Back in April we bought some annual flowers that were supposed to have red flowers. Now that the flowers are blooming they are not even close to red. We went back to the store and requested a store credit (we spent $85.00 on 13 plants). Not only did they refuse to offer even a small credit one of their low level workers began giving us an attitude while we were speaking to the manager. We will never shop at Troy's again. As for the low level worker, he can kiss my ass!!!!! read more

The woman at the counter doesn't know what she's talking about. Told me that any variety of fruit tree can be pollinated by a different variety...ie. we have a plum and she told me that an apple tree can pollinate a plum. "The birds and the bees baby". That was her answer when I questioned this. Totally incorrect. She told my wife that an evergreen that we bought there that isn't doing well needs to be trimmed because it's not getting enough sun at the base. Another total falsehood. The tree has insects that need to be killed. About 1/4 of the trees and shrubs we've bought there have died. Go somewhere else to buy. They have a good selection but their guarantee is awful. BEWARE OF ADDITIONAL FEES for delivery even though signs are clearly posted with prices. I was being charged 10 extra on top of delivery price and I live less than one mile away. So the prices they post for delivery is BS. NO ONE CAN GET IT DELVERED AT THEIR POSTED PRICES !! ... When I questioned their pricing the female clerk said "TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT "!! I buy my Christmas tree here every year because they have so many sizes and I always pick out the perfect one. I buy here because I know they will cut it perfectly for me and put it in the Treestand for me and they always carry it out and strap it to my car perfectly. All the staff has always been nice and professional to me and I never had a bad experience. Huge selection and lots of parking. Prices are reasonable because you're getting good quality. They have a nice shop inside with lots of cute stuff and gifts and seasonal items. read more

Do not purchase anything from this company. We purchased retaining wall blocks and they informed us that we should buy extra just in case we need them and we could bring back what we didn't use. Two days later when we returned 20 of them they charged us $15 to put them back which was ridiculous, then after waiting ten minutes for them to take them out of the truck we ended up doing it ourselves. read more

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY BY GOING TO TROY'S! My husband and I purchased several trees and bushes from Troy's mid to the end of May and choose Troy's because of good recommendations and although slightly more expensive than their competitors we wanted to get the best product. Unfortunately the Arborvitae's we purchased died within the first 2-3 weeks we received them and when I went to the store to discuss this situation, Mike (the manager) stated I received the wrong care instructions and he would "replace them". Although I was still upset about all the wasted time and actual labor went into planting these trees I felt satisfied that they were going to "replace them". Long story short... apparently "replacing" means at 50% as the receipt says, even though I received the wrong instructions, per Mike "It's a living, breathing thing" and "We both need to take ownership on what happened to the trees." I went back and received 50% of cost of trees for store credit and went to HEWITT'S where they have 100% refund. I'm so disappointed in Troy's and the only reason I'll be going back with my store credit is for mulch! read more

Troy's Landscape has only one severe, inexcusable, and unchanging blight associated with it, and that's Troy himself. Great location, plentiful inventory... (some not the best quality), ...for most part solid staff... But don't ever look for any kind of guarantee, or the slightest concern with any dissatisfaction you might have...cause it won't be there. All service and concern "END" ( and if you listen close you can almost hear it) at the moment of purchase...and that.. as with most companies, comes directly from it's owner. Troy's quick to make tax free, discounted- cash deals ... (plenty of markup there to work with)... but don't try to have that money move in the other direction if plants, shrubs, trees, etc are to die. I "DID" business there for 13 "years"... mostly with Monica, the co-owner, who sadly passed away last year. I have spent thousands of dollars there over that time, have met and dealt with Troy himself on decorative stone, trees, etc...seen him there and have said hello-exchanged small talk dozens of times...know some of the staff... yet after all that time, and money spent, I stop in for a half yard of topsoil, and 2 bags of cow manure last Friday...I go in, tell girl what I need, pay for it, and am instructed by her to get topsoil dumped in truck, and to stop on way out, to throw 2 $7 bags of manure in when leaving. As I stop, I see Troy standing there, I walk to pile, grab a bag and toss it in, I go grab the other, and as I do- Troy starts yelling to me .."hey--hey you, did you pay for that".... yeah, of course I did..." what did you just say" ...I said of course I did, I saw you standing there, I'm not going to steal 2 $7 bags of cow shit .... again "did you pay for that inside"...yeah, I just told you I did, I'm not stealing from you...(now getting more indignant), "I didn't say you did" ..no, your just implying it..."I don't know who comes and goes around here" ...do you know my name, do you recognize me, do I look familiar to you..."no"...I've come here 13 years, spent thousands here, come all summer long , every summer for 13 years....but that ended today. I'm in sales, I know and greet almost every customer that comes into our building, know the name of even seasonal once a year customers who return each year, as an owner, he should encourage his staff to do the same, stand behind what they sell, but like I said...all that comes from the top, beware of the crocodile smile you'll only see when his hand is extended to collect payment, those arms don't dial you back or give back when there's a problem, and unless "your face" happens to be on U.S. currency, don't expect to be greeted by your name. If a self serving, how can you help me, and "are you sure you paid for that" attitude is what your looking for..then I strongly recommend speaking with Troy. read more
