Sometimes the best of days grow from the most random of days. I had no plans to stop here, but I can never turn away the temptation of oysters and aperol. True Chesapeake is a beautiful restaurant with two outdoor spaces currently set up: their covered patio and a covered tent on the parking lot. They take your temperature before seating you at a table equipped with hand sanitizer. Staff have masks and gloves on (not many restaurants have the gloves on too). I normally avoid the bread they bring you at restaurants, but I was told I definitely should not do that here. Let me just say that this bread and butter combo was life-changing. I almost forgot about the oysters. Seriously, they need to package this stuff and send it to the every Whole Foods chain asap. I want to go back here for just this bread. Incredible. Now that I got that off my chest, the oysters were good, presentation was great. You don't have to buy by the half dozen or dozen either. Kitchen has a semi open concept, I liked being able to see the cooks and from what I could see the kitchen looked very clean. I like the oyster bar being in the front and you are able to see the oysters being shucked. Service: the only reason I gave 4 stars because some of our food and drink orders weren't placed causing a delay. Otherwise, bartenders were nice and attentive. The manager was visible throughout our visit and checked on all the patrons (I liked that). Drinks: I enjoyed the Black Pearl shooter, it went down very smoothly! We tried the Lu'au it was good but we preferred the original margarita made with Espolon Reposado tequila- made with a perfect mix of tequila. Meal: the menu is short and straight to the point. The raw oysters comes with an assortment of toppings-delicioussss. Caesar salad with fried oysters and smoked Caesar dressing- tasty but if you don't like a lot of dressing ask for it on the side or light dressing. Sirloin and rockfish entree- beautiful presentation, delicious and seasoned well. The sirloin came garnished with potato sticks that threw me off, I would order it again without the potato sticks. Portions are on the smaller side but perfect for me. Add a side of you would like more food-highly suggest the crab Mac and cheese-sooo gooddd. The smith island cake was a special dessert for the day and it was good! You can tell it was all made from scratch and the icings (two different chocolates) was amazing. So glad I picked this as the spot for a first date. Came here on Saturday night around 8pm. Was sat immediately. Our server was attentive and friendly. We started out with drinks. I got a 1904 which was delicious. She got a Laphroaig neat. We ordered 3 kinds of raw oysters (Huckleberry, Skinny Dippers, and Rocky Tops), all of which were delicious. We came across this place while checking out the pop up shop in the main area and was excited to see to new restaurant. It wasn't to busy for a Sunday afternoon. The atmosphere is nice, it's relaxing and yet sophisticated, this is a great place to meet friends or go on a date. It has a really great vibe! We ordered a few fun drinks, and they were all delicious! I especially liked the Wabbit Season (love a good smoky tequila!) For food we ordered lots of small plates to share, bone marrow, Muscles in garlic and wine sauces, the oyster Cesar salad (soooo good!), the roasted oysters (amazing), and the donuts (with cream, going to try the cinnamon sugar next time)! I made it my mission to visit True Chesapeake the moment the temps went past 60 and it did not disappoint! To start the establishment is absolutely beautiful and extremely spacious. At the end of the bar you can see the staff shucking fresh oysters and on warmer days they have the doors open to let in fresh air and yummy sunlight. Although the place feels very high end, I'd feel very comfortable dining in with casual clothes. The staff was incredibly friendly and checked on my party regularly. There was a small hiccup with the pricing of my happy hour oysters and they explained to me that the price wasn't adjusted because I got the bill after happy hour but they were kind enough to honor it. I ordered the roasted half shell and French onion oysters and they were incredibly tasty and fresh. The French onion was the perfect balance of sweet and salty, although I didn't taste much truffle. The roasted oysters are a cheesy and buttery heaven. Topped everything off with an Aeporal spritz that was perfect on a warm day. I've been meaning to check this spot out for a while and was delighted that another Whitehall Mill establishment exceeded my expectations. read more

My boss highly recommended this place so I decided to surprise Hubby with a date night filled with great food, drinks, and a movie. If you are an oyster lover, this place will not disappoint. They have a private parking lot so that's a plus for me because I hate parallel parking in the city lol. You have a choice of either outdoor or indoor seating. I chose the latter even though it was nice outside because I know hubby will be sweating lol. Our server, Echo, was fantastic! I loved her energy. She was so bubbly, very attentive, and provided us with recommendations. We started off with drinks- I ordered the purple rain (light & refreshing) and hubby ordered old foraged (bourbon). Round two included another old foraged for hubby and this scotch based drink called Smokestack that another server recommended. I love it when other servers ask if there is anything else we need when our server is busy. Shows excellent customer service. We ordered a dozen raw oysters (4) each of the Chunky Dunker, Skinny Dipper, and Huckleberry. Our favorite are the small huckleberries because although they were smaller, they were sweet. We decided to get their signature platter, "The Chef, The Shucker, The Farmer" so we could try a little bit of everything from old bay roasted oysters, clams, oysters Rockefeller, mussels, jumbo shrimp, potatoes and roasted, cute, little cipollini onions. We also ordered the crab Mac & cheese, and let me tell you, you will never want to eat ANY other mac & cheese but theirs! It was so creamy and addicting, I wish their portions were double!! We also tried the lightly battered soft shell crab that was beautifully plated and the Caesar salad with fried oysters that was just divine!! At this point we were STUFFED, but didn't stop us from sharing a dessert lol. We ordered the Baltimore Bomb - bread pudding with vanilla ice cream on top that was the perfect size giving us a couple bites each before we devoured the entire thing given that our stomachs had reached max capacity. My friend and I went to Woodberry Kitchen and once we discovered their "new concept" was to not offer table service at all, we left and went to True Chesapeake instead. OMG, talk about an upgrade! We LOVED our experience there! We didn't have a reservation -- all the outdoor seating was full which was a good sign -- but we were able to sit at the bar. I noticed that none of the staff wore masks, but the seats were socially distanced and my friend and I are both vaccinated. Ironically I'm not an oyster fan but my dinner companion is so he was in heaven. He got a half dozen of some kind of oysters as a starter and he was rolling his eyes at how good they were. I ordered the pan-seared sirloin with potato puree and onion strings and it was SO good. My friend had as his entrée the crab cake sandwich with homemade chips. My sirloin was prepared to perfection. I had a rosé to go with my dinner and my friend had a signature cocktail called Purple Rain that he raved about. We had a great bartender/server in Nick. We could have hung out with him all night! We had just come from WK and their lousy, impersonal service so to go here and everyone be so warm and friendly, it redeemed our dining experience. I knew we were in good hands when our hostess, whose name escapes me, said to me "I love your dress!" To end the evening, we each had their orange cornmeal cake with blueberries and whipped ricotta. I love the main restaurant, but I had some of their oyster shooters at a popup during oyfest in hampden. Came down with a decently bad case of norovirus food poisoning, which is only possible when the farmed oysters get exposed to raw human sewage. The company touts they farm their oysters themselves and that's why the risk of contamination is lower. I know there's always a risk but I did put a lot of trust in their marketing statement. Maybe they sourced the oysters differently for the popup at oyfest because I've never gotten sick at the main location. read more

My boyfriend and I decided to celebrate his birthday here last night and I'm so happy we did!! We started off with the Classic Rockefeller and 5 chunky dunkers oysters for an appetizer. For our entrees, we had the True Chesapeake caesar, chicken fried snakehead, and crispy blue catfish sandwich. The Caesar salad was so delicious! The salad was dressed perfectly with their homemade smoked oyster Caesar, and the fried oyster croutons added a nice crunch and extra burst of flavor! My boyfriend had the catfish sandwich and it was huge! The fish was perfectly seasoned and fried well! Now onto my dish, the chicken fried snakehead, the entire plate was so freaking good! It was my first time having snakehead and definitely won't be last! The fish was very meaty and had great flavor. The potato purée (whipped mashed potatoes) was a nice touch with the grilled ramps. If you're like me and didn't know what ramps are lol, then the taste was between French green beans and asparagus. The drink I order, lemon drop with reposado tequila, was also very good!
