Anywho, decided to drop in for H/H. $6 daquiris hit the spot, oysters were cool, looking back at my 2019 review of the burger, i was spot on, nothing special, i didnt even finish it. I am not a fan of automatic gratuity, even worse when the is auto gratuity is for H/H, you have to be kidding me. I have never seen that before. read more

True Chesapeake is the perfect date spot! I made reservations for here about a week in advance for Saturday at 5:15 pm. It was about a 20 minute drive from us, kind of in a weird location to get to. They have a parking lot, more parking further down the lot once you get into the entrance. Parking does kind of fill up the later It gets as well. We were seated immediately when we told them our reservations. I love all the dark wood and lighting, giving it a casual yet classy vibe. The waiter came to greet us quickly, offering us distilled or sparkling water. We went with distilled and also got a glass of sparkling wine (for me) and a bourbon cocktail (for my husband). We also decided on the blue crab Mac and cheese side as an app, along with the oyster stew and 2 oysters (for my husband). The drinks were good and the oysters came quickly. The oysters came with a little dripper bottle of hot sauce that my husband loved! I didn't try the oysters, just not a fan of raw oysters. We decided to get the Chef, the Shucker, and the Farmer plate with a mix of their shellfish. Hands down, the Mac and cheese is the star of the show. It's incredibly creamy with chunks of crab meat. It's just so flavorful and addicting, my husband and I couldn't stop fighting over it. The oyster stew was fine, more of an acquired taste with all the tarragon they put in it. With how good the Mac and cheese is, we honestly barely touched the stew. The shellfish platter came out with slices of bread. It was absolutely delicious and very worth the price. The oysters Rockefeller and the roasted oysters it came with were done so well. Buttery, cheesy, and delicious. The mussels and clams were good as well, but the oysters definitely stood out to us. The potatoes it came with were a tad undercooked and we ended up not really finishing any of those. It also came with melted butter and cocktail sauce. Afterwards, even though we were full, we decided to get dessert. We chose the berger cookie bread pudding. Dessert took longer to get to us then our main entree items, and it wasn't bad. The vanilla ice cream it came with had a different taste to it? That I guess went well with the cookie bread pudding. It was a bit of a miss for me. I'd probably stick with the other desserts next time. Our waiter was super friendly, although towards the end of the meal, it got a little busier, and he kind of forgot about us a little. Paying the check took a long time too. I would definitely come back here though, even if it was just for the Mac and cheese that I'm still dreaming of. read more

Absolutely fabulous! The ultimate farm to table/dock to dine experience! The restaurant owns and operates a local Chesapeake oyster farm. The only way to get fresher prime oysters is to work an oyster farm yourself and shuck them while standing in the bay. The True Chesapeake has to be one of the top Oyster spots in The Country! We Had a wonderful experience here from the moment we walked in the door. Service was excellent! we were seated right away by a very professional hostess who gave us a quick tour and gave brief mission statement of the restaurant. She took the time to explain that the displayed cages with oyster shells is how the restaurant farms their own oysters. What a way to interest and give "buy in" to new customers. Bravo, well done! The place is inside a old converted mill and has a slight steampunk feel. True Chesapeake is wonderfully designed, modernized, and comfortable. It is pretty clear that alot of time, thought, money, and effort went into designing this place. There is also outdoor seating and an out door bar. The outdoor space creates an nice outdoor dining experience. As you walk inside, one of the first things that you notice is a beautiful modernized stained wooden bar with plump juicy oysters on ice behind glass. What a visual! We were seated in the main dining area. The comfortable and welcoming dining area is beautifully and tastefully decorated. There are huge ceilings giving the place a much larger feeling. There are some giant exposed timber beams that appear to have been preserved from the original mill. It makes you wonder what was made in this reclaimed space decades ago. The dining area is quiet and comfortable, a perfect setting to enjoy a delicious meal. From our table we could see directly into the kitchen from a giant open bay. The area is extremely neat, clean, orderly, and efficient. Probably cleaner and more efficient than some operating rooms! I really like having a peek inside kitchens. There is nothing to hide! A big plus! Our server was Matt, he was super. He helped us with our selections and made some great paring recommendations. Shout out to Matt for helping to make this a fantastic meal and exceptional experience. Well done! We had the crab mac n cheese app, w 10plus wonderful mildly rich combination of delicate Chesapeake blue claw crabs, mac, and wonderfully blended cheese. Delicious, like lobster mac n cheese, only better! Get this! We followed with a mixture of small medium snd large oysters on the half shell from the True Chesapeake's own oyster farm. I can not say enough good things about these oysters, They were perfect! Plump, juicy, flavorful, with a perfectly formed cup full of the savory briney oyster liquor. The oysters were tender, plump and full of the delicious subtle fresh flavors of the brackish Chesapeake. They have a buttery flavor and a slightly nutty earthy finish. The near perfect oyster. We also had another dish, i think it was called the Chef's special or something like that. It was an oversized serving of clams, mussels, shrimp, corn on the cob, oysters Rockefeller, and baked oysters with old bay and a sprinkling of a melted cheese. The dish was in a tomato bases old bay seasoned broth with some toasted Portuguese style bread for dipping. Really really really delicious. The only suggestion i would have would be to throw in a few blue claw legs or bodies to put it way way way over the top! Oh by the way, one of the owners came over to our table. He explained his passion of raising the best possible oysters and offering top tier meals for his customers. Boy did They hit the nail on the head! Big plus for coming to the table and speaking with us. What a great product, what a great place. We also had amazing deserts. Dont skip this part of your meal! We had a local peach pie with bourbon brown sugar and a scoop of super premium high butter fat content vanilla ice cream. We also had fresh blackberry pie also with a scoop of ice cream. Both were a 10 plus! The True Chesapeake has gained a loyal repeat customer. I cannot wait to return. I cant say enough good things about this place. Fresh oysters that made available from their own farm! These oysters go for about $3.50 each and are more on the briny side but still has a hint of sweetness to them. In my opinion the large oysters were not as tasty as the medium and small ones but they were still good. They also have various entrees and drinks available to eat with the oysters such as the raviolo. Delicious and flavourful. Items are seasonal so check their menu ahead of time! Service was amazing, waiter was very attentive and gave very good recommendations for the oysters and entrées. If you're in the area please give this place a visit for their oysters! read more

The six of us attended to Chesapeake on Saturday night and, while the food was very good, the service was very bad. We started out at happy hour enjoying three dozen oysters, but, when asked for hot sauce, it didn't arrive until the third dozen was being consumed. Drinks took a very long time to be delivered and one of the drink orders never arrived. We ordered a variety of appetizers and entrées and, without exception, all of the food was quite tasty. The problem came when we needed condiments, refills on drinks and something as simple as a refill on water. Kicking off the New Year with trying out a new restaurant and I was not disappointed at all with @truechesapeake. Let's of course start off with the decor which was giving old world industrial realness ! The Serivce was A1 which we love and the food was legit mouthwatering! True Chesapeake is of course known for their oysters which are sourced locally and from partnering farmers. The oysters are large and in charge over there. They have a great variety of oysters and also have great ways to select how you would like your oyster prepared. I personally do not love raw oysters so they were so kind to let me try one of a roasted oysters which was so delicious! We needed up going with the fried ( my usual go to ) but dont sleep on those roasted oysters! The flavors were amazing! We also had the blue crab and bone marrow dip which was amazing ! For entrees we did the burger and the rockfish with the fried Brussels and Mac and cheese as sides. Ohh em gee the collards that accompanied the rockfish were some of the best I have ever had! They also have a vast cocktail menu and zero proof drink options. It was so great to see this tucked away gem so active on a Friday night! My husband loves seafood, and we don't get oysters often so this was an easy choice for his birthday dinner. He started off with the happy hour oysters. I'm not a fan of oysters but he said they were great. For mains, I got the crab cake sandwich. This was delicious. Different from a traditional jumbo lump crab cake- this was more herby than old bay-y. Very flavorful; I really enjoyed it, but if you're expecting a G&M's or Michael's Cafe type crab cake, this is not that. They do have a jumbo lump crab cake on their menu, so I might try that next time. My husband got the snakehead, an invasive fish, that was also delicious. Very buttery, not too fishy tasting. True Chesapeake's ambiance is perfect. From the exposed beams and brick to the giant buoy-looking lights, it feels like it's honoring both the mill and the bay. We went on a Saturday night and it was busy! We sat at the bar, and our bartender was both very busy and attentive! Overall, highly recommend. Pretty reasonable pricing for good seafood. We enjoyed a fantastic meal at True Chesapeake Oyster Co. this past weekend with a couple of friends. We had a reservation (through Resy), and they offered us inside or outside eating when we arrived. It was easy to pick their outside seating, because their patio is covered (under a tent) so there was no risk of rain ruining our meal (in fact, it did rain which made the meal that much better - the smell and the sound of rain, while we and our food were protected by the tent!). The outside patio was beautiful, and I'm glad we ate outside! Due to COVID, they took our temperatures upon arrival. They also had hand sanitizer at the hostess stand and on each table. Servers were masked throughout the meal; we were masked when not seated. We started with oysters (duh) - three different kinds (Skinny Dippers and Huckleberries representing MD oysters), one for each of the four of us. They were served with peach mignonette, horseradish, cocktail sauce, and hot sauce. Great way to start a meal. My husband and I shared the True Chesapeake Caesar (fried oyster croutons and smoked oyster Caesar dressing), 'The Local' crab cake (sweet corn succotash and roasted tomato beurre blanc), and the hand-cut bow tie pasta (with clams, bacon, and lemon bread crumbs). I loved every dish except the pasta which was a bit muddled (saucier than I expected and the sauce was almost gravy-like and took over the dish for me). The Caesar was a special take on the classic, and the crab cake (jumbo lump) was exceptional. Our friends enjoyed their dishes as well, and we shared a funnel cake (with local sweet cherries, strawberries, and powdered sugar) to end the meal. Our drinks were good as well. I stuck with wine (an Old Westminister they had on tap), but the rest of the group had both cocktails and beers. Overall, it was a great meal: delicious food, great service, and a great atmosphere. I go to White Hall Mill often and have never stepped foot in True Chesapeake until recently. I just assumed by the name that this wasn't the restaurant for me, but when it was chosen as a brunch location I went along. I am so glad I did! There are a lot of good options and everything was delicious! I had pancakes and a fun dessert sent to us by the lovely men of the kitchen. I also had some really well balanced drinks made by their very talented bartender. He was even able to make me something fun when I just gave notes. We had brunch at True Chesapeake this afternoon. We got to the restaurant and were greeted by a very friendly hostess who immediately sat us at our table. Our server Alissa was very friendly too, she had a smile every time she checked on us and was very attentive. We had the Oysters Rockefeller, blue crab & bone marrow dip, burger, and blue crab benedict. Everything was perfectly proportioned and delicious. Our favorite were the oysters and the blue crab benedict, although I would definitely have everything we had again. It was a lovely ambiance, the place was not full but had a number of people there. I went to True Chesapeake Oyster a few weeks ago located at Whitehall Mill out in Hampden. Just popped in for a quick cocktail and to grab a bite. Much to my surprise, they had a future new menu item running as a special so I decided to try it out. To get started, I ordered the Aviation cocktail since I'm a gin guy. It was made using crème de violette, luxardo, and lemon. I was told it was a bit different from a regular version of an Aviation because of the crème de violette liqueur. That being said I really enjoyed it. Was nice and light and not an overpowering sweetness. Back to food. The dish I ordered was the new steamed squash blossoms. While they are not easy to neatly cut up, I really liked this unique dish. It has a goat cheese from firefly farms (inside the market) and zucchini filling, tomato-fennel purée, and preserved lemon. I had never had squash blossoms before but all the ingredients worked in harmony quite well. As you see in the picture, 3 blossoms come per order for $13. My favorite part was the purée mixing with the goat cheese! I thought the presentation was nice too, as I always eat with my eyes first. I am planning on revisiting True Chesapeake again soon to try some other menu items. I definitely recommend trying them out. Friendly service and great quality food and drinks. read more

The food was delicious...The place was gorgeous The service I hate to say was mediocre at best... our server attention was every where else but our table starting with a table set up for two but was set up for 4 too many glasses and plates another server removed the xtra and followed by an apology.. the food was delicious but I ordered a steak and recieved a butter knife with my meal before I had to give attention to the matter to a server who was different one but again another apology. the third and last apology came with our drink order which we didn't receive our drinks till mid into our meal.. the manager made a sincere apology and credited us our drinks for the wait.. towards the end of our meal our server returned asking "if that was it". Not suggesting if we wanted dessert or more drinks is when I suggested that we leave.. we started the night at the bar for happy hour we had a great time and our service was well better than the service we recieved at a table.. whether a bar or table i believe we would have had a great time if the service was consistent... i felt like we recieved a snub once we sat at a table.. 3 stars is being generous read more

We loved the food! Went here for date night and had a great meal but were a bit rushed for sure when we first arrived. I love love oysters so was excited to try this place. We got there at 8:40pm and we didn't make reservations but apparently the kitchen closes at 9:00 so the hostess said she had to check to see if we could get a table. It was not at all busy by the way. Some folks at the bar but then only one other group seated of 5 people. While she was checking a male hostess came up and just asked the two guys behind us if they wanted a table or to order from the bar but didn't mention that he needed to check with the kitchen. It wasn't great but nevertheless we waited for the hostess to come back to let us know if we could have a seat in the restaurant area. Service didn't start great which is the reason for 4 stars. Food: This was a win across the board! I had two dozen oysters. The home grown oysters we had were Skinny Dippers. They were pretty good. Flavorful and very meaty. Snakehead was amazing!! It's fish with chicken batter and sits on a bed of oh so yummy mashed potatoes. Just mouthwatering and whatever that brown sauce was .. I basically ate it off the plate with my fingers. Caesar Salad was delish! Oyster dressing and it was so good I didn't even need pepper. The croutons were fried oysters. Just hands down terrific. The food was good. Kim was our waitress. She delivered fantastic service and recommended the snakehead and the salad. Glad we listened! She never missed a beat...checking on us and refilling drinks. There are reserved parking spaces just for True Oyster patrons. We snagged a spot right in front. Decor was very cool and classy yet laid back and comfortable. I have been here multiple times for events, dinner, and brunch. There are always fun specials and they farm their own oyster! Zack Mills is a fantastic chef and very dedicated to his craft. You can tell that he's really creating things that he loves. I highly recommend their crab mac & cheese, it is some of the best I've had in the area. Came here from looking at IG and stumbled upon this spot. Lets start with the venue. Outside it is kinda hard to find, especially in the dark. We passed by the place twice and it wasnt in the best lighting and it was also towards the back of a warehouse looking building. But we finally found it! Next, the interior and ambiance in general was very cute. I do like the "rustic" look inside which is really nice. I do want to come back when it is daytime. Because of the large windows they have, I'm sure the venue lights up really nice. They do have a bar area. And of course the food - ordered the mac and cheese, spaghetti from the small plates menu, roasted oysters, and ordered numerous raw oysters from their farm (meaning nothing too far from a different state or outside further in MD). Mac and cheese was mixed with crab and it was very saucy and delicious! Didnt really like the Spaghetti with clams because it was salty. I would avoid that. The roasted oysters was really really good. But the raw oysters is definitely really what you want to order. We ordered 2 dozen and all tasted really fresh. They have this vinegar/sweet sauce next to the tartar and horse radish sauce and it actually made the oysters taste better! Will definitely be going back again. This is the best restaurant in Baltimore, by a landslide. The location is gorgeous, the vibe is upscale without being pretentious, the staff (specifically the bar staff) are extremely knowledgeable and friendly, and the food is incredible. Every single dish is a 12/10. And the oysters are super fresh bc they come from their own sustainable oyster farm!! They simply do not miss. Getting here was a little sketchy and I wasn't sure if I was headed in the right direction. The sign posted is covered with graffiti so it's hard to read, unfortunately. Once you arrive, the restaurant looks very welcoming and is tucked away in a hidden area. The outside patio and bar area were very clean and fans were going to circulate air for the customers. The inside was decorated very nice. Restrooms was very clean. Now food & drink... delicious! Our host was great, very helpful, and knowledgeable about the items on the menu. My partner started off with a Blue & True Oyster Shooter, which comes with their house skinny dipper oyster, Green Machine IPA, and I had a Bijou cocktail. These were all delicious. For an appetizer, we ordered oysters on the half shell to try from the surrounding area and really enjoyed the Toms Cove Salt, to us this had the most brine. For the main course we shared the French onion oysters, seared scallops, and a 5 oz blue crab cake. The French onion oysters were different and yummy! They're a little soupy but not messy, very mindful, very demure. You have to try them. Risotto on scallop dish needed a little salt, however, the scallops added just a hint of salt. I could have used a tad more though. The crab cake was tasty and we enjoyed this. Wouldn't change a thing. This is a great date night spot and a perfect location for a group dinner. read more

Nice touch, True Chesapeake. Next up food... This is an oyster place. If you're not an oyster lover, this probably isn't your place you'll be raving about for weeks like I've been. I loved the raw oysters on the half-shell... We had some with a signature mignonette and I think it may have been a bourbon hot sauce that I'm still dreaming about. I loved the roasted oysters with herb butter... We added fried oysters to the true chesapeake Caesar salad with smoked oyster caesar dressing and that was phenomenal, too. The fried softshell crab had one of the best cooks I've had on a softshell. The dish made me wish I had a second stomach, so I could eat two of them. I'm kidding about that extra tummy, Universe! Please don't send that my way!!! The orange cornmeal cake and Baltimore bomb (bread) pudding were both divine and writing this review is making me miss True Chesapeake and Echo, thee best bartender around, as we speak. TL:DR--if you love fresh oysters and great drinks, this is a great choice! Happy hour is the best! I found this restaurant by searching online as I was hunting for a spot to get fresh oysters for a decent price (possible a happy hour special) and a decent drink after the long Wednesday work day I'd had. Anytime you gamble on a random restaurant you are taking a chance. This is the BEST gamble I've made in a long time!! The happy hour started at 5 which is also when they opened. I pulled up just at 5 and there were already a couple of people getting out of their cars and making a beeline for this spot. I was greeted by a sweet hostess as soon as I walked in and I took a seat at the bar. I was immediately brought a dinner and happy hour menu. The Bar Manager (Chuck?) was attentive and funny and awesome. He explained their oyster selections, including the ones grown at this restaurants very own oyster farm nearby! I ordered some of the locally grown oysters along with some others they had available. He was able to tell me exactly when my oysters were pulled from the water! They value freshness that much and you can taste the difference. I also tried the roasted oysters (also on happy hour special) and they were so delicious that I ordered another round! I also had 2 drinks--both from the well curated cocktail menu, designed by the restaurant staff. The drinks were perfectly strong and well balanced. The lighting and ambiance of the restaurant are beautiful and Ideal for a solo happy hour date (like mine), a girls night out, or a romantic dinner. I can't say enough great things about this spot. This establishment is so special to me. I come here at my highest highs and lowest lows. The service is amazing, the food is always on point, and the drinks are 10/10. This place has, by far, the best espresso martini in Baltimore. Any season, this restaurant is a slam dunk! read more

Came here after work on a random Wednesday evening at a friend's recommendation and was blown away! We serendipitously stumbled on half off wine happy hour so we obviously got a bottle of white wine which paired extremely well with our food. We got one of each of the raw oysters (they have two types: huckleberries and skinny dippers) to sample, and ended up going back for more of each because both were so fresh and tasty. The roasted oysters were just as good, but I probably would have gotten fewer of those because they were quite filling. Other things we got off the main menu were amazing too, including the crab & bone marrow dip, mushroom tart, and scallop crudo. We were seated at the bar for the happy hour and promptly served. Food and drinks came out quickly. Overall vibe was very cozy and relaxed, server and bartender were very friendly. Will definitely be back! read more

Top shelf seafood with a modern flair. True Chesapeake Oyster is a new and unique twist on tradition. We ordered small plates and decided to stay the course. The mushroom bread was outstanding as well as the oysters! The chili Brussel sprouts were good the bone marrow crab meat while borderline genius was a bit salty. The Ceasar Salad needs to be chopped a little more finely but order it with a crab cake. Unfortunately we did not save room for desert. When I go back I'm going to try the Berger Cookie Bread Pudding. In short this place is very much worth a try! read more

Professional service in a beautiful and not too noisy setting with absolutely delicious food. The only thing our table of 5 did not like was the purée on the Snakehead fish. Too thick and sweet for us. We had every oyster dish except for the oyster stew (will try that next time!) had the pasta and the risotto, too. Desserts were tasty. Great wine selection. Owner was present and involved in all aspects of the restaurant which may account for the on point service. We will return! read more
