Our retired womens group members gather for monthly Happy Hours at area restaurants. This month we met at True Food Kitchen. I made a reservation for ten, but people tend to come and go at different times, so we all need separate checks. They have a nice row of tables with stools in the bar area, and a great happy hour menu. The street tacos (very good) are only $6.00. People tried the pair of dips (hummus and guacamole) and a couple of people ordered the meatball sliders, which they raved about. We arrived at 3:00 when they were doing a shift change, but Lo took over and she managed all of our separate orders like a pro. I have eaten at True Food for lunch before, but never for happy hour. First time eating here. Wait staff was pleasant. The restaurant area is huge. The menu changes frequently and the concept seems to be focused on fresh ingredients and air fried goodness. It's a vibe that some may not like. We ordered Brussel sprouts for an appetizer and they were great. Most meals come with a very small side salad but you can upgrade to fries or something else. My wife got a huge salad with protein as an extra. I ordered Chicken Parm. Only complaint was that the pasta was overcooked. Try the desserts. Amazing food, great choices. I had the Korean noodle bowl, my daughter had the pesto pasta, Alex had the margarita pizza, and Gordon had the salmon. We started off with some just amazing cocktails. I highly recommend the watermelon Mojito. I followed that with the bourbon and peaches cocktail. One of us ordered the mezcal Maricar it's, which is the amazing pink color! Just amazing attention to detail, true mixology. We ended the dinner with a Blueberry Compote Sundae, which was one of the best desserts I've ever had. Amazing. The food was delicious and the staff was wonderful. There were 4 of us dining and nobody was disappointed. For starters we got the roasted Brussel sprouts. There were enough for us all to have a few of them. Everyone loved them. The vegetarian with us had the plant based double cheeseburger with a kale salad. She truly enjoyed it and the next to us came over as we were being served and told her how much they enjoyed theirs and that they eat here very often. The other 3 dishes order were the jambalaya, the ancient grains bowl, and the spaghetti squash casserole. None of us had anything negative to say. The restaurant is very clean and fresh looking. I like the fact that there was only a glass wall separating the kitchen from the dining room so you can see they aren't trying to hide anything and can see them preparing your food. Our server was very friendly and attentive and answered any questions we had as well as offering suggestions. Parking wise there are a few free spots on the road but there is a free parking garage just across the street. I highly recommend you give them a try. I most certainly will be returning to try something else. They are currently serving the fall season menu but will be changing to the spring season menu very soon. I shared the spaghetti squash casserole and the bbq ranch chicken wrap + small kale salad with a friend, and we couldn't pick a favorite between the three. Another friend ordered and enjoyed the smoked Gouda turkey burger. I also recommend the avo-rita, which comes with two housemade tortilla chips topped with guacamole!
