I wish I had the 4.5 star experience that the rest of the Yelp community seems to enjoy here. Maybe I'm just not ordering the right items. Tonight I tried the Korean chicken sandwich and made the tragic mistake of getting a side of the Umami potatoes. The Korean chicken sandwich was well conceived for the most part. Really tasted good but the execution was terrible. I find this to be true a lot here. They put two chicken tenders on it and not a breast. They were super dry and tough. The sandwich won't stay together at all without a breast. It just had too much sauce and other ingredients. It was just a super mess. The potatoes were some of the worst I have ever had. Let's just make it the worst ok? Dry, hard and with the most unappetizing and disgusting sauce you could conceive. My wife tried it and we're just at a loss. You went from the worst sweet potato hash (now thankfully a distant memory) to this? Just terrible. I washed the sauce off, added salt, pepper and some olive oil so I could make them palatable but they were still hard and dry. They're a block away so that's why I have been back since my 2021 review several times. It's never more than 3 stars for me. read more

First time tried True Food Kitchen and now I am a fan! The space is absolutely beautiful with super friendly staff. Located in downtown Chicago this place is a must try for for healthy, fresh, and delicious food. I love that it has plenty of vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free options. True Food Kitchen is my new favorite restaurant as it uses wholesome, intentionally and sustainably sourced ingredients. Everything we tried was so flavorful and tasted fresh. The portions sizes were good and easily shareable. My favorites were the edamame dumpling , kimchi fried rice bowl, and bone broth chicken ramen. A special shout to our server for helping us make great choices since it was our first time there. I highly recommend checking this place out. I will definitely be back again soon . read more

Okay, this place ROCKS! First time trying True Food Kitchen and it absolutely did not disappoint. My 2 friends and I came here on a Saturday around 6:30; there was more than enough seating and we did not need a reservation. The space was very big, spacious, clean, and cute! They had some of their large windows wide open which added such a summery vibe and fresh air. Our server (I cannot remember his name for the life of me) was absolutely wonderful! Friendly, attentive, helpful, truly all the qualities you look for in good service. Edamame guacamole - 10/10. I could eat this every day. So fresh and delicious. Hummus - 9/10. Smooth, creamy, and different than your average hummus. Mediterranean salad - 8/10. I wish I added protein to it, it was a good salad. Korean noodle bowl - 10/10. The flavors were so robust and it was filling. Skinny Margarita - 10/10. Fresh mint and orange on top. I could have 5 of these! The service and food here was spectacular. I had a lovely dinner sitting outside at the downtown location. It was a bit more crowded and loud inside so I opted to enjoy the great weather. The staff was friendly, honored my reservation right away and the ancient grain bowl (with shrimp) was savory and refreshing (due to the fresh vegetables). Super cute place to eat at or sit and wait for take out like I did! Took me a while to find a place in Chicago that had good, sustainably sourced and organic ingredients for lunch but finally did. I ordered beef, chicken, a side of potatoes and a side of asparagus which totaled to about $35-40 which I thought was fine because of the quality. But when I opened my bag back at the hotel I was sort of appalled at the small servings... the steak was just under 2.5 oz and the chicken was about 2.8 oz (I track my macros so I did weigh this out). I'm used to about 3.5 - 4 oz portions when I order at places like this so I was indeed in shock. The quality was still there and good but wow I definitely expected a tad bit more for what I paid. Maybe they serve more when you dine in? Not sure! Would go back eventually because I'm all for supporting businesses that center their values around Earth. read more

The Hawaiian fried rice is a great mashup of breakfast and lunch all in one dish, and it totally satisfied. Coffee is freshly brewed, comes out piping hot, and is velvety rich. They tasted fresh and the portion size was just enough for one person. ve been a regular at this place, coming weekly for my usual hot matcha, which is always perfect. However, today I was disappointed with the drink I received--it barely tasted like matcha and more like milk. When I asked for it to be remade, it was done the same way, with staff insisting this was the standard. I even showed them pictures of how it's usually made. I'll give it one more try, but if consistency doesn't improve, I may have to find another spot. It's a shame because I've always enjoyed other items, like the squash pizza and soup. Absolutely terrible location! Came in for brunch. Literally less the 1/4 full of guests. Staff mostly younger, not professional and lazy. We were sat and ordered very basic dishes. Assumed with this type of establishment we'd have about a 15-20 min wait for food (reasonably). Food took 50 mins to arrive. Our server checked on us maybe 2 times at most and left our drinks empty the entire time. Tables next to us remained dirty and uncleaned for a while. They have no shortage of staff either. Some customers with parties of 4 and more actually got their food a bit before we did?! Seems like a lot of lazy "woke" staff with management that's not paying attention or caring about the business. As far as food it was nothing great. Wasn't terrible wasn't fantastic. Fast food quality with terrible service and wait time. Will never be back to this one! read more

The waitstaff was very chill and relaxed. While there weren't too many people in the restaurant for lunch, this place does get busy. I ordered the Roasted Butternut Squash soup along with the Chopped Salad with Grilled Chicken. Overall, my favorite items on the menu. The food came out really fast and both items were perfectly dressed. Gerard was our waiter and he was super attentive, polite, and overall down-to-earth. We had such a great experience here! The Farmers Market scramble was wonderful with creamy avocado, and we loved how the sweet potato and egg paired so nicely with red pepper that wasn't overpowering. The Mediterranean Bowl was fantastic, and the watermelon radish was such a fun surprise. All of the jammy eggs were cooked perfectly. The Double Patty Vegetarian Burger was tasty, though a little on the dry side, and the fries could have been crispier. The Refreshers were excellent--a definite must-try--and we loved that the code at the bottom explains how it benefits your body. Our server, Erin, was so kind and informative, offering great recommendations that really made our meal even better. Can't wait to come back! When in Chicago, eat here. Found this place because ChatGPT pointed it out to me as places in Chicago that might have less saturated fat on their menu. Just something I'm paying more attention to. Sounds like this place feels my vibe. They are cooking everything apparently in olive or avocado oil which turns out to have more saturated fat than a lot of other oils :) Well... thank you ChatGPT! We loved our meal here. I got a chicken sandwich which was delicious. And the Hawaiian fried rice Is also yummy. Would get that again. But the real call out is that my 9 year old got the pizza and is already telling us it's her 2nd favorite pizza place! That's some high praise. My wife was a little meh on the shrimp teriyaki bowl. And we got a chicken sausage gluten free pizza that is one of the better gluten free crusts I've ever had. But it was a little undercooked and doughy still. We finished with some gluten free chocolate chip cookies which were pretty good. All in all I'm psyched to find this joint. Will order again. (I wish they used another delivery service though.
