I'm so happy I noticed True Food Kitchen was close to my hotel! We had a delicious dinner tonight... After reading the reviews raving about the edamame dumplings I had to try them. OMG good. We shared a mushroom, shaved Brussels Sprouts and taleggio cheese pizza to start. More OMG good. I had the potato, long bean and bok choy curry bowl - spicy! But still OMG good. My dining partner had the salmon entree with quinoa, brown rice and farro. The grains had a garlic and lemongrass sauce that was amazing. Service was prompt and friendly, and the ambiance was casual and comfortable. Noise level was acceptable. Dinner for two with two cocktails was $86.00. We're already planning our next dinner at True Food. Well, actually we'd like to try the Happy Hour next! We were kindly accommodated outside with our pup. We really appreciated TFK allowing us to have our dog outside, who fared well in the shade provided by the side of the building, the hanging canopies in the alleyway, the umbrella by our table, and the overhead misting. Adam was our server and he was so genuine and his presence was truly a delight. He answered all of our questions concerning the menu and when we were stuck between dishes, he gave us recommendations that did not disappoint! As it was our first time here, he explained the philosophy and seasonal schedule of the restaurant to us, which is right up our alleys. A changing menu is awesome because it gives incentive to keep you coming back to try more. We had guacamole as an appetizer which was fresh af on a hot September evening in the Valley. I ordered the chili noodles and my SO ordered some kind of grass-fed burger wrapped in lettuce. After we ate our meal, we didn't feel overly stuffed or uncomfortably filled with heavy food, as meals out often leave us feeling. We felt comfortable, light, and satiated, more than likely due to the fresh ingredients in our dinner. True Food is my go to place - brunch is excellent and so is dinner. True foods is a healthy fast place in the middle of the mall. For brunch - the quinoa cakes are AMAZING!!! This restaurant was amazing. Delicious food, amazing staff.......a phenomenal manager. I ate at the bar and watched the manager help all the employees and just go above and beyond. I have never been so impressed. I showed up maybe five minutes after they opened at 11 and by noon every table in the place was full including the outdoor seating. All of the servers are so nice and helpful and the menu options are not only healthy, but so delicious. True has become one of my favorite restaurants. At $13, don't try to break down the cost of what it is. It's a bucks worth of veggies for $13. I had Salmon for $23. Small portions again. We also had chicken and spaghetti squash. 3 drinks, Total $100. Everything was tasty, but as a non vegetarian, only the people who love to get by on 500 calories a day will fawn and splurge over this venue. Won't go back. Love this place so much. What great fresh innovative healthy options to choose from. I was down visiting my daughter in Arizona and my mom sister and I went to this location as well as the Scottsdale location and loved them both. The brussels sprouts on the appetizer menu are amazing, the immunity bowl is amazing, my fig and Gorgonzola flatbread was amazing, the grass fed steak tacos were amazing, we loved it all. We visited True Food for a birthday celebration and are pretty upset after waiting more than an hour for our food with no apologies and not even a complimentary round of drinks or desserts to make up for the long waiting time. The food was ok, except for one entrée which was cold. Food portions were small and overpriced. Because of the long waiting time we missed an appointment. Overall a very unpleasant dining experience. Edit: I got contacted by the owner after posting my review. He didn't apologize or offered me something as a compensation for my bad dining experience. I tried this place for the first time this past Thursday evening and it was amazing. I like the inside of the restaurant, it was really nice. Well, I ordered a pizza, but I couldn't decide between a traditional style pizza or the wild mushroom which had mushrooms, asparagus, and a garlic base. The waitress was nice enough to let me get a half and half with the two. After I got my food, my pizza looked so good, I couldn't wait to take a bite. It was heaven when I did. The crust is amazing! I have always loved coming to True Food since since u first discovered them. The food is always fresh, delicious and I can leave feeling good about myself because of the way they prepare everything. This last experience was one of the best I have had though. My server Mae took the time to help me and my indecisive and picky girlfriend navigate the menu to find something that she would absolutely love. While I understand that is the role of most servers, Mae went above and beyond to help figure out her mood, taste for the moment and helped to steer her to dining bliss. The hostess was extremely rude. We accidentally booked a reservation for the Scottsdale location instead of Phoenix. Everything was good, but for lunch the timing seemed off. In Phoenix for the weekend and wanted to try something we don't have in Tucson! First of all, I would not be writing this yelp review if our server wasn't so incredible. We probably asked Rory 40 questions and he knew the answer to every single one. He was super personable and kept us entertained the whole time. For me, this place is amazing! I have to say I don't think it's for everyone though, simply because the food is, well.... true and delicious! You can actually taste what you are eating, see the flavors on your plate and taste them on your tongue; your palate is not confused by an over abundance of sauce and seasonings like in so many other restaurants.... The menu is relatively limited, which means every plate is consistently good and made to order; having a fresh selection of food and none of that leftover "soup of the day" and frozen made-up dishes you get in restaurants with menus that are 3 pages long! They do have a soup of the day, but it's made, as the name says, with veggies available at that time of year at the market - same as I make at home and yes, I recognize what's in it Last time we dined at True we shared the Edamame Dumplings: I wish we had each ordered a plate they were sooo good!! they were made white truffle oil, dashi and asian herbs, the dumplings themselves were cooked perfectly and the puddle of sauce was delicious too.... we were all looking at the last lone dumpling on the plate: nobody making a move. I was determined to have it so I snaked my hand out to grab it - only to find my nephew's fingers doing the same! we split (tore!) that lil'dumpling in half and smacked our lips in satisfied happiness! The selection of drinks - both alcoholic and non-alcoholic is quite good; there are teas & smoothies, kombucha & juices, beer & cider, martinis margaritas & other cocktails. To follow I had the Wild Mushroom Pizza with roasted garlic, taleggio, asparagus: my favorite cheese and vegs on a perfect sized and baked pizza - delicious The others had a Steelhead salmon, yum! a Spicy Panang Curry Bowl, I think someone had the Tacos but not sure, I was too busy eating my pizza and drinking my Ginger Margarita to really notice, sorry....and a Spaghetti Squash Casserole that looked amazing. Everyone finished everything so that is absolutely a great sign !! I of course just had to have dessert, so ordered the Flourless Chocolate Cake, another of my faves, and oh my was it good I had to keep an eye on all those forks jabbing at it from around the table! All our food was cold except the pizza. Been there probably 5 times and this was the worst ever. My wife and another couple went Sunday around 4pm. We all order something different and 3 out of 4 meals were cold except the pizza. Our meal was right at $70 not including tip. Even the kale salad that we always looked forward to was not the same. I don't mind spending the $$ as long as the service is good and also the food. Sorry guys but it will be a long time before we come back. read more
