While I'm asking the waitress questions, another staff member comes up and takes the dirty plates from her hands so sly. Now onto the food....words don't do the pictures justice. Everything I ate was amazing. I would absolutely visit again, again, and again! I'm still thinking about the insane flavors each item brought. I've been hearing about this place for a while now and decided to finally check it out. The sushi was packed, I really liked all the flavors together, it was done very well. The spinach artichoke dip was probably the best I've ever had, the housemaid chips really added to the experience, and we finished the whole thing clean. The star of the show was definitely the French dip sandwich, alone it was very good, but with the horseradish sauce and the au jus... it was just perfect, the flavors were melting in my mouth. Definitely a fun place to take your family or friends, the service was quick and I'm sure the food is consistent. Hillstone never disappoints. The ribs are absolutely off the charts and, without a doubt, our favorite thing on the menu every single time. We also had the spicy tuna roll, which was fresh and delicious. From start to finish Hillstone is amazing! It is busy and you should have a reservation before you go. They offer indoor and outdoor seating and a bar. Hillstone has figured out the perfect restaurant lighting so it is not too dark but dim enough so the feel is tranquil and calming. Although we had a reservation we did wait about 10 minutes to be seated. The host that seated us apologized for this inconvenience as did our server and the manager who came by to check on us. They also comped our appetizer because of this delay (so nice). The service was impeccable. We started out with the Osaka Style Pressed Sushi. I can't imagine going to Hillstone and not ordering this dish. It is beautifully plated and delectable. For our mains we had the Crispy Chicken Sandwich and the French Dip. Both were perfection! And both are a generous size and include a side so we took lots of leftovers home. But we still wanted dessert so we ordered the Key Lime Pie and it was fresh and tasty. Hillstone really shines with their sushi. The rest of their menu is underwhelming and not what I would expect from a fancier restaurant that requires a dress code. The presentation of my steak was lacking and I felt like I was being served a dish at a hospital. However, the sushi. The sushi is innovative, delicious, and beautifully presented. I'm allergic to shellfish which typically really limits my ability to eat sushi. There are still multiple items on the menu for me to order from. I finally visited Hillstone after living right across the street for several years. The wait was always so long that I eventually gave up trying but I finally made it in. One thing to note right away: every time I've gone inside, it's been extremely loud. The energy is high, but it can definitely make conversation harder if you're looking for a quieter dining experience. For appetizers, we ordered the Spinach & Artichoke Dip and the Smoked Salmon. They were good, but honestly just okay. Tasty, but nothing particularly memorable. The wood-fired rotisserie chicken was amazing ! The dish was flavorful, chicken was perfectly cooked. The prime French dip was also excellent and very satisfying. Cocktail-wise, the selection is fairly limited, and they don't make custom cocktails upon request. That can be a downside if you're craving something specific or more creative. Overall, the experience was good. While it's loud and the appetizers didn't wow me, the entrées were strong enough that I'd return to try different menu items and drinks at another time. read more

I visited Hillstone in Phoenix, Arizona around noon on October 16th for lunch with a friend. We were promptly greeted and seated at a two-top near the bar. Our beverages were delivered, and our server, Ann, who appeared to be training another team member, began to assist us. From the start, the level of service did not reflect the standard I have consistently experienced with Hillstone Group restaurants across different states. The interaction felt cold and transactional, with no warmth, menu guidance, or recommendations offered. The energy was notably standoffish. My guest and I ordered sushi. I requested a simple modification to the cucumber and avocado roll by removing the avocado -- a request I've made before at Hillstone without issue. Ann stated she would confirm with the chef. She did arrive back speaking against it as the roll would be smaller. I told her I was fine with the portion. When the plate arrived, the roll presented looked noticeably different than the menu description: it contained cream-based sauce and fish roe, neither of which was listed on the menu. Initially, I believed it was the wrong order. Ann confirmed that this was correct and that only the avocado had been removed. However, the tone and expression made me feel as though I was being dismissed, as if, "this is what you always get." I asked for the item to be removed from the table and later from the bill, as I did not consume it. Despite this, it still appeared on the check. When I asked again, Ann stated she would speak to the manager. Instead of her returning, Manager Luke approached the table and in a scolding tone informed us that in the future, if any modifications are made to an order, it cannot be removed from the bill. He stated he would "do it this one time," as though it was a favor. Additionally, when my guest pointed out that the extra toppings were not listed anywhere on the menu, Luke responded saying, "there wasn't enough space on the menu." That reasoning is concerning, especially considering potential food allergies or dietary restrictions. Full transparency of ingredients should never be optional in a restaurant of this caliber. I have a dairy allergy so I would have liked to know this. There was no thank you, no acknowledgment, no courtesy -- not even a smile. I left feeling unwelcome and singled out, which is disheartening given my longtime support of Hillstone locations in both Phoenix and Houston. This experience did not reflect the hospitality or professionalism typically associated with the Hillstone brand. The tone, lack of accountability, and dismissive demeanor from both the server and manager left a lasting negative impression. The staff was incredibly friendly from the moment I walked in, and the atmosphere was great--bright, open, and welcoming, with the doors open to the patio so you get a nice indoor/outdoor vibe. I've been wanting to visit as I love grilled artichokes and was told Hillstone has the best artichokes. The restaurant itself is large and roomy- very much a trendy steakhouse vibe with a large bar and casual patio seating area. We did have to wait about 15 minutes after our reservation time before being seated but we were able to grab a drink at the bar. The service was quick upon being seated and cordial. I prefer more personality with restaurant staff, at hillstone it seems they are all just super polite and monotone? We shared a few apps, the guac, artichokes, fries and spinach and artichoke dip. Truthfully the artichokes were good but they were as amazing as everyone told me they were- they were also super small... I personally didn't love the artichoke dip as I found it too creamy but the rest of our table really enjoyed it. The guac was delicious and a very large serving. The fries were so underwhelming- I don't think I've had such underwhelming fries in a while and I am self proclaimed french fry connoisseur. For mains I had the crispy salmon salad which was delicious (just with there was more salad on my salad), my partner enjoyed the Cobb and we also had the steak frites which came with even sadder looking very pale fries. Would I come back- yes if someone wanted to. Is it one of my top choices to dine at? Definitely not. read more

We had a longer wait for our table this visit, and they generously comped our appetizer, which was such a nice touch. Our waitress was incredibly helpful and friendly, and I love that they refresh your martini glass. We always start with the spinach dip. It is simple but done so well, and I especially love the addition of sour cream that comes with it. The ribeyes were cooked perfectly, and I added the miso vinaigrette to my kale panzanella for extra flavor, which really elevated the dish. The ambience and service - outstanding. I can't think of another time a server brought a fresh chilled martini glass halfway through the martini. The food we found to be less impressive. We started the spinach and artichoke dip that's really an odd combination with sometimes chewy tortilla chips, a dip that's more creamed spinach than dip, paired with sour cream and average salsa. The ribs were room temperature plus and under seasoned. Roasted chicken was also under seasoned. Fries were good and focaccia was light, airy, and delicious - and inexpensive. We couldn't decide between the pressed sushi and the coconut shrimp roll, so we decided to get both! The French dip blew my mind, but the wedge salad fell a little short for me as it had golden beets and pickled carrots that weren't my favorite. I use to absolutely love Hillstone, but it appears that things have changed including service and food quality. You will definitely have a rushed experience at Hillstone. The waiters will interrupt your conversations every 10 minutes it feels, which intern gives that hurry and place your order so we can hurry and give you the check so you can hurry and get the heck out of here so we can attend to our conveyer belt of people to get in and get out to make it about money rather than quality and experience. EXPERIENCE: We were asked by what was probably the manager to leave after 90 minutes. Which is fine if that is your policy. If you have said policy, you need to make that public and upfront so we the customer can decide if we want to feel rushed. Century Grand cocktail bars have this policy and are upfront with it, which is great. Honestly, I think the demeanor and look on the managers face was what did it for me. The body language was as if he was disgusted with us and we were some kind of free loaders or whatnot? The tone of voice was as snooty as it comes. FOOD: We always come for the shrimp macadamia sushi and coconut sushi, alongside with other items. My fiancé and I both noticed that it didn't taste the same as usual. SUMMARY: Not only are you constantly interrupted and rushed, but you will also be asked to leave after dropping nearly $200 bucks, for overpriced less than mediocre food. As a native of AZ, I am convinced Hillstone is only busy because there are a few hotels nearby. It's tourist season! Because of this treatment and lack of quality, I nor my friends and family will not be returning to Hillstone. My husband and I make it a point to go to Hillstone for dinner each and every time we are in Arizona. Why? Because the food, service and vibe are ALWAYS spot on! Last night, we had to wait a few minutes for our table (not uncommon since it's such a popular spot), and as we were hanging by the food prep areas, one of the chefs slid over some french fries and sauce to eat while we waited. Really nice touch! As always, Hillstone servers are absolute professionals. Ours was incredibly friendly and just 'on it.' Once seated, we ordered their smoked salmon appetizer, which is always a hit. It's a really generous portion; so much so, we had some to bring home. For dinner, I got my usual - the yellowtail sashimi (another generous portion) which comes with a small salad - and my husband got the Asian noodle salad. I finally had the chance to come to this location! I've been to Honor Bar in LA and it's their sister restaurant. The food here is the best. They literally have something for everyone. I love their sushi selection and ding's chicken sandwich (I think about this sandwich often). I tried the jackrabbit cocktail which was recommended by our server. Their service is ALWAYS top notch. I don't remember our servers name but she was attentive and great. The restaurant has a low light setting and chill vibes but business casual. There is also outdoor seating which is nice! Arrived at Hillstone around 6:30 PM and was told the wait for a table was 2-3 hours. This was my first time here, I've only ever been to Houston's in Florida so I was looking forward to trying it. I asked if we could sit at the bar instead and was told there was a wait for that as well, so I put my name down. The restaurant was busy, which I understand, but the seating process didn't seem fair or organized. I also noticed that online it states they have a dress code, but I saw one woman wearing leggings and a man wearing slides, which felt inconsistent with the rules. After about 30 minutes, we started noticing multiple people who arrived after us being seated before us. What made it more frustrating was that once people were seated, their food was coming out within about 10 minutes, so the bar was clearly turning over. At one point a man who had also been waiting for the bar was skipped when someone who arrived after him was greeted by the manager and seated immediately. When he questioned it, the host claimed she "wasn't aware," even though she had been standing right there the whole time. The whole experience felt disorganized and unfair. The food also wasn't anything special and definitely not worth such a long wait. I hope management reviews their seating process because the experience didn't match the reputation of the restaurant. In my opinion, this place isn't worth a 2 hour wait especially if people are being seated ahead of others because they know the manager. Save your time and make a reservation if you plan to go. Great drinks, good parking, and the service was excellent! The food was super yummy, and we really enjoyed sitting on their patio. A quick heads-up for future visitors: the patio is open seating and has a different menu than inside. They are very strict about not allowing inside food on the patio (and vice versa), and you can't pull extra chairs over to accommodate more people at a table outside. Overall, we had a great experience, just something to be aware of! Was given a gift card to this place over 15 years ago and decided it was time to give them a try. I made a reservation the night before for two with an early lunch. The reservation was easy to make. Upon arrival, the staff greeted and took us to our seat right away. The inside was very nice and the kitchen staff greeted us as well. As we sat down, the hostess promptly asked us what we'd like to drink and brought our waters very fast. We ordered the Rosemary Focaccia, Famous French Dip, Dings Crispy Chicken Sandwich and Deviled Eggs. Everything was really good with the French Dip being our favorite. The deviled eggs weren't anything to write home about and to only be served three was not worth the price. The French Dip was packed with flavor and heated up very nicely the next day. The Rosemary Focaccia was very savory. It had just the right amount of crisp to butter ratio. The slaw on the chicken sandwich was my favorite as it brought all of the other flavors together. All in all, we wouldn't be back as it's not our vibe. The patrons are much older and I could tell they were either Executives or Ex-Executives. This restaurant gives off an upscale feel and is perfect for catching up with the family, a dinner date, or a relaxing dinner with friends. We started off with some sushi rolls and artichokes, both were great but the Pressed Sushi was a new concept that I loved! The seafood they used on their sushi was very fresh and flavorful. For my main I got the Prime French Dip which was the best French Dip sandwich I have ever had! The Au Jus was delicious and the roasted prime rib melted in my mouth. Started with the spinach artichoke dip and I have to say this is definitely overhyped - it is good, but not the best you'll ever have, the salsa honestly tasted better than the dip. Now the stacked sushi lives up to the hype - melts in your mouth, so much flavor, spicy mayo is top tier, this was outstanding. The chicken sandwich was good but it is hard to eat because it is so big and the chicken is very thin, so really feels like you're eating a bunch of toppings with a little chicken that lacked flavor. I was ready to hate on the hyped French Dip, but it really is the best one I have ever had. I'm not even a "left overs" person but I had more than half to take home and it was great the next day. The creamy horseradish is so good so if you're inclined and are taking some of it home, don't forget to ask for some to go. We started with the grilled artichoke and it was awesome. If they have it and you even remotely like artichokes, just get it and don't hesitate. Finished with the key lime pie. Couldn't finish it, but well worth what we could finish. It was perfect - not too sweet and just right. Along side a cappuccino, it made for a great end to the meal. I could go on.
