John Wayne lovers, this is your place! The walls are covered in John Wayne movie posters and paraphernalia, perfect for a stroll down movie memory lane. My dad was enthralled! The chicken fried steak was a MONSTER too. Easily could have been 2, or even three meals. Lighting fast service, in a charming atmosphere. And perfectly positioned in the town square of Ridgeway!

Looking over Ridgway's park, we stopped by the True Grit Cafe. Our party of four was greeted and seated by Kelly. She was very helpful with menu recommendations, and her service was kind and professional. The restaurant is nicely decorated and contains a lot of great photos of John Wayne and other cast from the movie, True Grit. The food was absolutely delicious! I had the burnt ends sandwich with a side cup of green chili.

I came in on a fall weekend and it was packed! I was lucky to get a spot at the bar. The bartender was friendly and helpful. I ordered the elk burger and thought it was good. It has quaint True Grit decor.

This is not all the food. More was waiting & we had turkey sandwiches driving back to Vegas

I ordered Thanksgiving dinner for my folks and us. Dinner was AMAZING! Turkey, stuffing, mashed potato's, full berry cranberry sauce, green beans, gravy, rolls, punk pie, & bread pudding. All of it was so good. I had 2 plates, but so did my Dad! Thanks to Tammy & crew! Everyone! Love this place! Love Tammy & crew!

Hiked blue lakes then came here for an elk burger and drinks. Great service, amazing food and perfect view! Perfect ending to a great day camping.

I just ordered a couple of draft IPAs and french fries. The customer service was lacking greatly; I had asked if there was a wild wing sauce for dipping the fries but there wasn't so I just asked for ketchup....when the waiter put down the fries he gave me no plates or ketchup and did not ask me if I wanted anything when he did give me the fries. I had to get up and get the ketchup bottle from another table and squeeze the ketchup on the fries since I had no plates or even napkins. The view was hard to beat so that was what helped me stay remotely content. I would recommend but would ask for a different server than the one I had.

"The Grit"! My husband finished the whole thing and it was impressive to watch!

We started out with the Gaucamole-Molcajete which consisted of R-house chips, fresh avocados, garlic, lime & cilantro in a big 'ol stone Molcajete. Yep, you gotta smash it up yourself! So fresh and YUM! For dinner we got a Cattleman's Steak Salad, a Smoked Meat Sandwich, and Seared Tuna Tataki. All so delicious...no to-go boxes for this group! If you want to get HAPPY! The bartender seemed confused I wanted to order liquor instead of a beer (though it was on the menu), and poured me the most surgically accurate 1 shot I've ever seen, never asking how I wanted the liquor (just served to me in a shot glass for $12!). We ate the pizza because we were hungry and we'd paid for it. It just wasn't good. To top it all off, I suspect heavy AI use in some of their art/menu. It demonstrates the lack of care and attention they have for the entire product. A real shame as they have a nice outdoor spot that could be a great place to hang out.

I took them 2 hams 2 shoulders 2 30-36" long backstraps and a bag of next meat and various meat I had cut off the carcass Out other buddy killed one on Friday and our outfitter called and asked could they have it ready Sunday morning and they said yes so they took it there in the same shape as the other 2 we took Wednesday. When we picked up out meat Sunday morning I only had 6 packs of steaks and 63 packs of burger. I called them and asked about my steaks in case they forgot a basket in the cooler which they didn't. They told me the steaks packed for 4 had 8 steaks in them which they didn't !! They also told me they trim a lot of neck meat off the back strap when brought in already cut out ! So I took let's just say at least 60" of backstraps and I got 24" of steaks from them. Thai was by far the worst part of my first elk hunt and I would not recommend them to anyone especially if you are from out of town. On the flip side the elk that our outfitter brought to them I feel like they treated him a lot better than they b did us because he got 3 baskets more meat than me and my buddy got. I read basically this same review about them from 2012 so it must be a thing with them ripping out of owners off. I hope God deals with their hearts and they quit doing people this way !!!!

I told them to cut back straps into steaks and grind up the rest and add beef fat. I didn't weigh my dropped off elk but it was around 130# (cow elk) deboned clean meat. I got back 6 packs of steaks and 38 one pound bags of ground meat. My buddy dropped off a bull the day before and we picked his up at same time and his meat situation was same as mine. When we questioned them they said they trim the meat. I can understand some trimming of meat but not losing half the meat. Total rip off.

Spotted El Agave Azul's food trailer in Montrose, so tried them out and it was a done deal! Since their flagship restaurant was in Ridgway, we decided to drive out and grab some lunch so we could personally meet the owners. Again the food was super good, flavorful and delish...not to mention the fresh and yummy margs! The owners, Jose and Lucia were an absolute pleasure to meet and work with for our party. They arrived early to set-up, were very professional, meticulous and took great care of our guests. We ordered street tacos (naturally the carne asada as well as grilled chicken), rice, refried beans, chips & salsa, and quesidillas. Everyone ranted and raved about the food and loved every bit of it...in fact there were very little leftovers which is always a good sign! ;-) I cannot say enough about El Agave Azul. I was surprised by some of the prices, so I checked my receipt against current average grocery prices in Colorado. It turns out our total was approximately 15% higher than the Colorado average. Of course, this is a mountain town, so you expect prices to be a bit higher. But some items were significantly more expensive. A few examples: Chobani yogurt: ($9.49 vs. $6.49 average) Cherub tomatoes: ($5.99 vs. $3.99 average) Fairlife milk: ($7.49 vs. $5.99 average) Havarti cheese: ($8.49 vs. $6.40 average) Looking back, there were definitely a few things I should have skipped. The shopping experience itself could have been better, too. They were restocking shelves while we were there, and there were boxes and merchandise that we had to maneuver our cart around. One item I wanted was behind a pile of things waiting to be stocked. I was trying to get to it, but the stocker completely ignored me. Not cool.
