I did not try grits at True grits so no comment on that haha. However, I tried their home fries. OMG good and give me the whole tub of this. I can eat this all day long!!! I can reheat the leftovers in the oven and tastes even better!!! Their BLT is amazing to eat!!! We had takeout from there and the food they pack to travel really well so if you are planning on being on the road to get to somewhere from Gainesville, it would be such a great idea to get something to go from here:)) Have the biscuit with gravy or sausage with biscuit and your kids will sleep in the car and will never ask when you are going there yet a million times!!! You do taste pepper very gently in the gravy but not too spicy at all. When we look around, the inflation is everywhere and a thing of fancy coffee with flavoring costs just about $10. Their BLT with less than a $10 price tag is one of the best things you could eat on this earth for that price. I mean it feels like they put the entire package of bacon into one BLT!!!!! Might as well eat there if you want anything that has bacon in it!!! First of all, there is something different about the bread. Is it potato bread or what not and it is not greasy at all. Just crisp and toasted well and layers of iceberg lettuce so crunchy and refreshing, and multiple layers with bacon stacks!! It is not one of those places with a few strips of bacon in a single layer, this thing is really stacked up!!! It is very filling without an overwhelming amount of grease and fat. My fingers were still clean and dry eating this BLT sandwich but my belly was full and trust me that I could eat like a truck driver who has been on the road for 12 hours. Better deal, quality and tasting food here than at Chick Filet for the price to beat that!!! Think about that!!! Sausage and biscuit: better than any of the main breakfast restaurants!!! Their biscuits and gravy: no words necessary. Any attempt to describe it would be a superfluous use of words! Just go try it! You will see!!! I love me some good old southern cooking. I almost never drink sweet tea even though I do love sweet tea since it is a slippery slope if I add sweet tea to my routine. This is the one of a very few places that I would order that sweetened ice tea up. It has a really nice tea taste with just the right amount of sugar. It is not overwhelmingly sweet that spikes up your blood sugar putting you on keto coma and sending your pancreas and kidneys on downwards spiral. Just enough to appreciate the tea. It seems to be the very thing about this restaurant. The cleanness...Everything feels and tastes clean like walking into a nice starched up linen store. Bacon strips cooked to perfection and drained the fat off properly. Let the ingredients, the way the food is prepared shine instead of masking it with fat and sugar. I am very satisfied with the food here and cannot wait to try again!!! read more

Bless this place. BLESS THEM. I wanted to love it. I did. We walked in to get a quick breakfast and the ceiling was leaking with a trash bin below it catching the drip. We stayed anyway, after we were seated by a non communicative hostess or wait dress wasn't much better. I would say they were shy, but they communication and friendliness wasn't really there. We were not locals, maybe that has something to do with it. Took 25 minutes to get our food , we got a chicken friend steak with bacon and eggs and a breakfast bowl with home fries sausage and eggs, we asked for eggs over medium, what we got was runny, oily, mush. The chicken fried steak was decent. Small, but okay. Eggs were not good. Very very runny. Under done. Cheese covered. This is a new restaurant. The food is very good and the menu has a good variety. This is becoming our most visited restaurant because of that. Very disappointing and a bit disgusting. Visited Interlachen for the day, Sept. 30, and a local recommended True Grits for lunch. My husband and I ordered Southern cooking type meals, my mom ordered soup and salad. We waited almost an hour for the food, while noticing parties that arrived after we did were being served. My and husband's dishes were okay. Mom's salad was the saddest iceberg lettuce topped with dismal amounts of tomato and onion. The soup (ground beef and veggie) was not a soup but a glob of ground beef with some peas tossed in, and a hair!!! I should have gone with my gut feeling and walked out immediately when I noticed how filthy the floors were. read more

If you want some really good food for a great price, this is it. I've been here twice now and both times the food was excellent. I stop here to eat on the way home from the Gainsville VA Hospital. Service is very good and fast. Everyone is down to earth, friendly and courteous. I for one, love John Wayne so I love the decor. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. Updating my previous review. I am all for supporting local businesses, but this place needs some serious help! Don't get me wrong the food is good. We go for the food, so much better than the other place in town. But let's be clear, when you have people at the door waiting and dirty tables and it's not busy and employees standing around then we have an issue. Everyone seems to have one job and can't help anyone else. The host just seat and take Togo orders and tally server orders, which servers should be doing their own check totals and dropping checks at table for the customer convenience. I haven't seen a host help clean a table. Servers standing around don't seem to help seat the door and take their time cleaning their own tables. We have come here 5 or 6 times now and have yet to see a manager or owner out in the dining room. I really hope they get this fixed. They need to hire a front of house manager to fix the issues. read more

Their biscuits and gravy are to die for. The staff is extremely friendly and the American Wild West decor is cute.

fun spot for breakfast or lunch. Great chili here, and I love the meatloaf too. Try the desert, if you get there early enough and it is not all gone! The set up from an old bank is quite cute and well done. I was impressed with the nice menus and the atmosphere. We were there for breakfast, which had a nice selection. The service was pretty prompt and the waitress very nice. Food arrived quickly and was good. It isn't anything fancy, just good old fashioned food. The potatoes were a little cold, but that was the only fault I had. Didn't bother mentioning it to the waitress, I wasn't going to eat them anyway. Delicious food. We were there on a Friday night. We got a table right away. We ordered an appetizer and our main dishes. I had the grilled shrimp and my husband ordered the grilled flounder. Both dishes were good. The waitress asked if we needed tarter or red sauce and we said we did. They never brought it. We also never received our appetizer. Now, let me back up and say there was a table of four across the aisle. They were already seated when we got there. In fact, they were ordering when we got there. About 30 minutes later two of their four places came out then about ten minutes later our two plates came out, 15 minutes later one of their four plates came out and another 15 minutes later their four plate arrived to the table. I was amazed that it took almost an hour for all four of them to eat their dinner together! Their plates should have come out together. They, fortunately, were very kind people and did not complain; however, that is a bit much. I think this place will be successful once they get a system in place and the newness wears off. They have a small cafe in Orange Springs that serves fantastic food, called Ivies Cafe. I wish True Grits much success and plan on checking them out again after a few months. read more

1/23/2021 --- 4 pm. Very clean and nice, service was adequate, but minimal. Price competitive, menu basic. Problem is food very plain,nothing special or tasty. everything except salad ( fresh and good ) tasted like it came straight out of the can, package, or freezer. Non ADA compliant, Owner clueless as to federal law. Was told by the owner I needed an ID card for my service dog. First she came into the room I was sitting in and said " I just wanted to check and see if anyone was being bothered" My service animal was lying down UNDER the table. I tried politely at first to inform her of the law. She continued, leaning into me and demanding an ID card for my animal. I'd had enough, I asked for a to go box and my bill. The owner would provide neither and asked me to leave for being "Rude". She says and I quote " I have run restaurants and I know the law". Negative on that.. Well this was a major dissapointment, ordered country fried steak, it was the size of a small hamburger patty with gravy that tasted like it was from a packet. the restaurant is apparently staffed by loud obnoxious teenagers rather than adults who care about the food they're serving. my wife ordered beef tips which are usually served with mushrooms but this establishment uses green peppers which are barely cooked. all in all a major disappointment I would not waste my money on this place it'll be out of business soon read more
