Best customer service hands down. Josh helped me unload two yards of gravel, was very kind and patient by not just dropping the gravel in my driveway. Josh actually shoveled the gravel from the work truck into the wheel barrel. Alex dropped off cinderblock with his personal truck after the store was closed at 7:15 pm. Alex helped move my boat and backed his truck into my backyard and helped hand stack the block. I would never give business to home depot or Lowe's after receiving this kind of service. I left this store over 2 hours ago and I am still insulted and furious. While trying to find some parts , I hear the two older employees talking loudly, teasing the young female employee at the register about the beaches and other areas being closed because of the PROTESTERS . I scratch my head and continue. Then I hear cracks about eating WATERMELON. The next subject is is about how these protesters are not as bad as the Viet Nam war protesters... of which I was one. I stormed outta of the place raising my objection, vowing never to return. I may have dropped an F- bomb and I apologize to the young lady. Went In here to buy some parts for a washer and dryer, the first guy was extremely nice and helpful. I had to come back a second time for more parts, and the lady helping me was extremely rude and condescending. Then she says she owns the store, which blew me away because her attitude is terrible. Don't go in there expecting help from her, she will just insult you. She even insulted one of her employees right in front of me who asked her if she needed help with anything and she said " no I need someone who knows more than you". I try to shop local, but I will never come back here. Not everyone is going to be an expert when walking into a hardware store, so having friendly helpful people really makes a difference to those of us who are out of our comfort zone. read more

I have given Best Lumber several good shakes. The cute girl that is almost always at the counter has a TERRIBLE attitude. EVERYTIME I check out with her, she has a very bad attitude. Today, I walked in to return something; she didn't respond to me when I said "hi, I'd like to return this". She literally threw my receipt back down on the counter instead of handing it to me, no "have a good day". The first couple times I thought she may just be having a bad day and I always make sure to be as friendly as possible but it's been habitual and after today I'll drive the extra 1/4 mile to ACE. I visited Best Lumber for the first time earlier today. I had a vision to create a pegboard workstation in my craft room/office. Upon entering the store, I was immediately greeted by an employee who took me around the store helping me select items for my project. He called an employee to cut the wood and pegboard I had selected. Another employee was called to mix the paint. I took a quick lap around the store and headed to the register. As I approached, the cashier already had my woodworking items on a ticket to start ringing me up. Simultaneously, my paint was delivered to the register. Then the gentleman who cut my peg board carried my items out to the car and loaded it up for me. I was in and out of the store in 20 minutes! I had excellent customer service and I felt as if every employee was helping me simultaneously! read more

Pretty disappointed with customer service.....none.... not even greeted when coming in door. Not one word upon checking out. No "thank you " or any greeting. Might as well have self checkout. The prices were shocking. 30.00 for two tile bits. Normally $15.00.....have never heard a word back from store, or any response on Yelp. First the good, they have what you're looking for. Convenient location with plenty of parking. Now the bad. They are more expensive than Home Depot and Lowe's, but quite honestly for the convenience and the fact that it is a small mom and pop store, I am happy to pay the extra. The real reason why I gave them only two stars is because of their customer service. I must say that the younger girls that work the front registers are very sweet. But the rest of the staff is grouchy and miserable. Just by going in there and asking them for help absolutely ruins their day. I have tried very hard to be polite and kind and friendly to them and they still act pissy. I don't think they really get it. The reason why people are willing to pay extra to go to a store like this as opposed to a big box store is for the customer service. They lack so badly in this area it's pathetic. I don't know why they are all so pissed off and grouchy, or why they direct it at their customers who are employing them, but it is inexcusable. If you hate your job, quit! Don't take it out on your customers. I have been here probably 20 times in the last six months. Every time, without fail, I have been meted with the same attitudes. I just cannot in good faith continue to give my business to them. Hopefully this review will change their attitudes. If for some reason someone in management is reading this, try asking your employees to smile, that goes a long ways. There are lots of little shops like this that are going out of business. Pissing customers off and having them leave with a bad taste in their mouth certainly does nothing to increase sales. They have lost me as a customer. read more

Horrible customer service. I called and talked to manager about a return and was told needed receipt & pay restock fee. Went in the next day and was letting the cashier know why I was there when someone started yelling at me from the middle of the store. Fred continued yelling at me and said returns can only be done 2 days after purchasing. Told him what manager said and there policy, he said he didn't care, he was the head honcho today and no returns. I was shocked with how rude I was treated. I have lived in Yucaipa for 30 years and shop locally. I will never shop at Best again. read more

We have a number of rental properties in Yucaipa, so the two major hardware stores are go-to places when we do repairs. Sure, Home Depot is cheaper, but factor in the drive time and gas to go down there and back, and it evens out for small purchases. We usually go to Best Lumber as it's closer to our units, but we have found the customer service to be very lacking as of late. They seem to have a knack for hiring kids who don't have a clue about hardware or customer service. We were there a few days ago looking for a fitting to connect a 3/8" dryer line to a 1/2" flange gas valve. I would have been better off finding it myself. The helper fished out an adapter, then said something like "I need to check to see if it's a flange or not," then proclaimed it was. As we were in a hurry we just bought it and scrammed. Arriving at our unit... no go. The fitting he assured us was flange was pipe thread! Back to Best, and an older gentleman looked for some time before finding us the right one. It wasn't even in the area one would expect! While he was looking I told the kid I needed some ABS drain pipe cement. He pretty much brushed me off, probably because he didn't have any idea what ABS cement was. The older fellow, after seeing me resort to looking it for myself, showed me where it was, but they were out of the small sized cans! (I only needed a small amount, and it goes bad after some time if you don't use it all.) So, to do our job I had to buy a more expensive can of stuff that will likely go bad before I use it. Overall, not overly impressed with this place. They are pricey, often out of certain things, and the help at times is worse than finding stuff yourself. Also, that smarmy "free ride in a police car if you break the law" sign prominently affixed to the main door doesn't add positively to the place. I think most everyone who frequents a store knows the possible consequences of committing a crime. 2/5:This home improvement store needs some improvement of its own! read more

This place carries a lot of stuff but it's overpriced. I never ask for any help since I know more than anyone working there. Went to pay. Cashier was sorta rude. She was flirting with some random co worker when I came to check out my items. She didn't greet me or say anything at all while I was being rung up, just stared (guess they don't get many attractive people in Yucaipa) anyways the guy just kept glaring at me the whole time. Avoid all Home Depot's and Lowes!!! This Best has everything. Excellent customer service and staff that is so attentive. I needed a sander for automotive detailing. They carry the usual amount but I fell in love with a floor model. They gave to me at a discount and even threw in extra savings for sign up for the store customers rewards program. I love supporting local businesses. Best is part of a chain but not a corporation. It has hometown vibes. It strives to keep it a Mom and Pop hardware store. I went in on Saturday to get some sprinkler parts. When I checked out I thought my bill was high. I checked the receipt and noticed the scanner charged me for 3 items instead of one. When I asked the clerk he said their computer was doing this quite often. Seriously??? I wonder how many customers fail to check their receipts. Please, Best Home Center, get your system in order. First of all its. This is called Best Lumber. True Value name is no where to be found. Please note that this pace have higher prices that corporate store. This is a mom and pop kind of shop. The people are helpful and friendly. It was really dark and intimidating because the aisles were so tight and I felt claustrophobic so I had to leave. Went there today to buy some nylon cord. First off, I walk in and the manager just stares at me. Guess they don't get to many men with a walker come in. I go pay for my cord and my card comes up denied. I knew this couldn't be possible and I told that to the clerk. He became incensed, and with a raised angry voice pushed the screen toward me and said; "See it's right here", and wanted to end the sale right then. I told him to run it again, and grudgingly he ran it again with it passing this time. That clerk must be used to carrying manure bags and not dealing with customers. I'll never return to that store again, and instead take my business to the real True Value on 5th St. read more

I have been shopping here for many years. I know the old owner, Margie and have met the new owner. I am always helped within a timely manner and all the associates are always very friendly and helpful! :) 99.999% of the time they have what I need, and if they don't, they will order it or recommend to me where I can get it! I do not go anywhere else for my hardware / lumber needs! They also have all the "by the piece" screws, nuts and bolts that most hardware stores don't carry anymore! I love this store. If you need a strange screw, bolt, or want to fix your lamp they have the best supply of small screws, washers, bolts, small hardwre and electrical parts to be found in any hardware store. Lowes and Home Depot won't even come close. As some have noted the prices are a bit more than Lowes or Home Depot but if you drive into Redlands you'll spend an extra $5 or $10 on gas plus your time has to be worth something. And sometimes the prices are definitely less so check here before you spend your time and gas driving into Redlands. read more

Read an article in the local paper that Best Lumber had been purchased about a year ago. I wasn't happy with the service sometimes at Ace. The people seem friendly and they always seem to have the part I need in stock. Prices are fair. I especially like the monthly sale paper that they send out. With Home Depot and Lowe's being a 25 mile round trip to either Redlands or Beaumont its nice to have a Hardware store nearby. I looked for a Yucaipa lock smith and found out he retired. Best lumber has a large key dept. even for those electronic keys for our cars. read more

They have some decent stuff (for example, very large selection of nuts, bolts and fasteners). Prices are ok. Service, however, is questionable. I never feel like anyone is trying to help me. I've seen employees ignore questions from customers, and answer other questions rudely. I will still go here on occasion because it is so close for me. read more
