Maybe my mistake was ordering a veg sandwich at a deli.... I will have to go back to try one of their meat options to find out! I stopped by Family Delicatessen on a Saturday and ordered the Green Goddess, a vegetarian option with hummus, avocado, apple, and lots of veggies. I will give them credit: they did not skimp on the veggies! However, there was not a whole lot of hummus or avocado so it kind of just tasted like eating veggies on a piece of baguette. A very good piece of baguette, to be fair, but I just wish there had been a little more flavor. The deli itself is very cute with lots of imported Italian foods, like unique pastas and sauces. Came here for lunch after an event at the library.. It's a really cozy take out place, a genuine corner deli. This is a full take-out place, so keep that in mind. I had the large meatball sub. This was recommended and it had some heft to it. This was a big, messy, delicious sandwich! No pic of the sandwich since I ate it in my car. It was all prepared fresh and promptly. This deli deserves the hype! We were in the area and just wanted to grab sandwiches quick on the way to the next destination and we are really glad we stopped in. Staff (the owner! And her friend) were both super friendly and obviously very proud of the shop. There was a slight snafu with our order and it was corrected quickly. I ordered catering from here for lunch via Relish. Because of this I can't speak to the ambiance of the deli itself. However, I can speak on the food. I ordered a Greek salad with grilled chicken, which was great! The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because the chicken was plain and cold. After work drive, looking for more than the usual leftovers, and same old places for dinner. Location for me was super easy, very quiet on a Friday night, menu screamed deliciousness. Boars head products are featured, and I love their products. Getting to know the help and nice and inviting conversation. Sampling a homemade meatball, sold! If you are expecting true Jewish deli corned beef like Michael's in Brookline, go back to Michael's. Boars Head isn't true corned beef New York Style. Just like BostonTex Mex isn't real Mexican food you'd find in Southern California. If you don't know flavorful real corned beef with a little fat, you'll probably like it. read more

A hidden gem in the hood. We live around this place and NOW we discover this sub place and its a game changer! Each of their sandwiches come in different types of bread and i love tasting each subs. The pastrami sandwich comes in rye, mayflower sandwich comes in a roll, some come in french baguette and the bread is really a game changer! I love trying out their signature subs (esp the mayflower) but their classic subs are also super delicious. The owners are also the sweetest people and my toddler sons both LOVE visiting this spot! Really good deli shop! I'm not usually into cold sandwiches (they do offer hot ones), but I was committed to trying the "Family Italian" after I had seen the sandwich! It was phenomenal and filling. I got a small and the small is really a large and I had to finish the rest later in the day. Service was prompt. I ordered in store. I am used to going to Waltham for authentic and stacked Italian subs that I neglected to give other places a try- boy am I happy that I explored this delicatessen. Their subs are generously sized and delicious! The family Italian sub was packed with meat, cheese, and hots. Also got the firehouse which was also very, very humongous and delicious. We will definitely be back. The staff working there are super attentive and amazing as well. The deli is also very clean and spacey enough for customers to wait in. Love the decor and ambiance. Awesome family owned and operated business! I had to cater a hiring event on short notice and they were able to fulfill the order in just over an hour. On such short notice this was super caring and facilitating of them. One of the staff there even helped me carry my order to my car. She went above and beyond and was a pleasure to deal with. The ingredients are fresh and local. The flavours in the sand which are pleasant and well catered but not overpowering. I was excited to hear about the opening of this business and Maynard has no good options for Take out, subs etc. Family Deli does not disappoint! The food is amazing. Big sandwiches, priced right at under $10.00. Great bread, stuffed full of tasty filling. Two different sandwiches and a very large salad to date and very very satisfied. They also sell soups, breads coffee and pastry. There is clearly many years of serving up great food behind those counters. No seating here to take it home or to work. Plentiful street parking and a friendly family working hard to put out great food are a plus. Run don't walk. You will not be disappointed. read more

Heard there was a new deli in Maynard so I had to visit, We don't have any proper delis so I was excited to see one open. First week so some things I can let slide like ordering counter confusion and speed. I think a couple signs like "Order here", "pickup here" may solve the confusion part. Now to the good stuff *Metered parking both sides so that is simple *Staff was super friendly and even offer a sample of the soup they had on. *Boars Head- so they are doing things right *Sandwiches are proper size - I got a large Italian on scali bread *Bread to meat to condiment ratio was spot on I'll be back to try other offerings soon! read more

We love this restaurant! We've been in Maynard long enough to see good restaurants come and go. When they set up shop we were curious to see how they would do, especially considering there's sub shop a couple of blocks away on the same street. The family Italian is by far best sandwich I have ever had and I have had many many sandwiches in the city of Boston and this sandwich is LIGHTS OUT 10/10 Compared to any sandwich you get in the North End!
