Terrible Service - Avoid This Company I prepaid $1,650 for a 12-month package that included lawn seeding and mosquito treatment for both the front and back yard. From the start, the service was disappointing. The seeding was only done on half of the front yard, even though I paid for the entire front yard. Every time the mosquito service came, they only sprayed the front yard. I had to call them every time to come back and do the back yard, which they were supposed to do in the first place. One time, I called to follow up, and they claimed the technician was "in front of my house"--but I was on the front porch with my kids and no one was there. Completely dishonest. We contracted and pre-paid for seven treatments plus an aeration and over-seeding of our 42K sq ft lawn in early 2025. During all of the visits, technicians missed large swaths of the lawn. It was clear looking at the weeds that half the lawn was untreated. The next technician to visit for a subsequent treatment, or to handle a call back complaint agreed the lawn wasn't treated, apologized, and said he'd make a note. But with a new technician coming for nearly every treatment, there was no continuity among the staff. Email, text, and phone calls all route to different people, none of whom are local to our area. Customer support would make a promise, but the tech that arrived knew nothing about it. The worst part is the $1600 aeration and over-seeding only reached about half of the yard. We contacted TruGreen to complain and TruGreen sent someone to finish the job, but it was too dry. The tech said they would return when the weather was better. We requested a fall 2026 aeration and over-seeding, not a spring 2026 one. In April 2026 we found out that TruGreen closed the account and had no intention of returning here. They have stolen $1600 from us. Other Yelp reviews suggest we are not alone suffering from poor service, terrible customer support, and shoddy work. This used to be a good company, but not any more. Though I threatened to cancel my TruGreen service in the past, I never did. Just lazy and also wish I didn't have to deal with this nonsense. So I spend $88 a treatment for whatever it is....weed control, fertilizer, etc. If it works, which it does for the most part, I have no problem with this amount of money. My most recent visit was 7/18/24 for fertilizer via spreader. I was shocked that he spent all of 5 minutes performing the service, Then back to his truck where he spent more time sitting there than in my yard. I walked the yard after he left and found that clearly a third of my front lawn wasn't done. And NONE of the back. What the hell!? Then on his service ticket, it's stated that he did the 'Entire area' and used 25 lbs of material. Oh please. I bet he used more like 5 lbs and how can he do the 'entire area' when he never set foot in my back yard!? TruGreen is a habit I need to quit. I signed up for the TruComplete plan last year. The TruComplete package is supposed to come with Aeration/Overseeding, Grub Prevention, and Pre-Emergent/Targeted Weed Control. All of their service invoices said the same thing. "Today, I applied potash fertilizer to strengthen the root system of your lawn and improve its health and vigor." That's it. My last service was 3/5/2020 to put down slow-releasing fertilizer. Nothing in April. My lawn is now easily the worst on our street. There are patches of nothing, small patch of dead grass on the front lawn where the grub larvae "live" and crabgrass growing on the side/back of my property. I just cancelled my service/had to fight for a partial refund of prepayment for the year and will be trying either Lawn Doctor or Sunday. I am keeping their mosquito service because it seems to be working. read more

I called TruGreen to get two lawn treatments to knock down the weeds.Of course they want to do the whole year. I understand but two treatments is all I wanted for weed control. I have used TG for 20 years. This wasn't for my property but just wanted them in for two treatments. They said you have to either get the year or a minimum of 4 lawn treatments at $660.00 that was way higher than my initial quote from two days ago. I did two treatments before and I wouldn't expect to get the same results as 4 or 6 and was just requesting two for a reason. The only reason I've stayed a customer is the product is good but my experience with them has been they are inconsistent and sometimes unprofessional and I had to constantly chase after them to get them to service my house. We have a monthly contract for mosquito control. I work from home and was home when they came out yesterday. He sprayed the front yard but did not get back in his vehicle, drive through our alley, and spray the back. When I called to report an incomplete service, I was not helped and instead was challenged that I was "calling their technician a liar". I never saw anyone, and the only way I know they came through at all for a few minutes because they would leave signs in the yard and a completely rote notice of recommendations on the door. The quality of the lawn and amount of weeds was utterly unchanged from previous years, so they added ZERO VALUE. I prepaid for my season's lawn care and they aren't showing up. I saw a guy outside one day and he parked but never came onto the property. I got a message he was coming back. Nobody came. Nothing was treated and then I got a message saying they hope I'm happy with the service that was done. This is ridiculous. You can't contact them once they get your money. Nobody picks up at your local branch. There is nothing you can do once you've paid them. I guess I have to dispute it on my credit card because this is ridiculous. We just started with their lawn service this year to knock down the weed population. No complaints there. Add-on Mosquito Service? no, no, no, no, no. Just no. Mid-summer, my wife wanted to try their mosquito service. There seemed to be a slight improvement for a month or so, but the mosquitos were back to being as bad as ever. My wife registered a complaint, they gave a complementary extra treatment (fine, but not really what we wanted. We really wanted the mosquito problem solved.) They also then gave her a list of issues to check on the yard: standing water (flower pots?) bad drainage (not obviously), etc. CLEARLY: If they wanted to solve the mosquito problem, this would have been their first step. Before starting, they might've said, "we'll provide the service, buy you need to ensure X, Y, Z... on your property. At this point, I'm completely unimpressed. I'd researched mosquito control last year and learned how mosquitos are a very hard problem to solve. There is no single silver bullet. When these guys offered the mosquito service to my wife, it made no obvious sense: How they could spray the grass with a relatively safe (kids/pets) concoction, and it would make the mosquitos from around the neighborhood decide to avoid crossing our property line Lesson learned: TruGreen has no Secret Skeeter Sauce. No apologies for the error and was told the only thing they could do was have someone come back out. It's so random and months can pass before they show up again. Even when I emailed customer care about the weeds in my lawn, they said someone will be out next week. That someone didn't show up until 3 weeks later. When he did come, he walked the perimeter of my front lawn with his spreader and then left. My ring camera caught it all. Ive been using TruGreen for a few years. No real problems except for fertilizing my neighbors lawn twice. Fast forward to this year. Against my better judgment I signed up for a cheap tree and shrubbery plan. By August two of my ten year old bushes were dying. I called the Woodfield Rd office and was assured that an inspector would be out "Monday or Tuesday" to check. Of course no one showed up. Another call and was told that he was coming "next week". I almost never write a negative review but this is a WARNING TO THE PUBLIC. TruGreen has been used in our for THREE SEPARATE OF OUR FAMILIES' HOMES so you cannot say it was a single time or that we didn't give it a chance or that we didn't follow through on their recommendations (by season - summer, spring, fall and obviously not in the winter). We signed up expecting our lawn to be treated well for weeds, etc, we did all their recommendations by season, we paid, we followed up to discuss how it was going with our lawns (paid so much for barely any difference - weeds still grew rampant, grass was brown and unhealthy with patches). On some occasions, they would "supposedly" have shown up and had not left ANY NOTICE on the door but would CHARGE US ANYWAY and our cameras showed NO ONE that day. We even finally cut off the service after a YEAR of this and THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS later. They still CHARGED US for the "alleged" visit and after multiple calls to TruGreen to explain that we don't want to pay for a service we never got especially after we already canceled - they just kept resending the bills and we'd call call call again and again to be reassured it was "handled" and today we got notice from COLLECTIONS! UGH! ARE YOU SERIOUS, TRUGREEN? I don't have time to make a federal case out of this nor do I want my credit score affected so we paid. What fake BS service are you supposedly doing for people? I was getting home around 5-6pm Gentleman (older retirement age asian man) followed me into my yard. He said 29.95 and you can quit anytime you want. He was very aggressive. He said you will get a call from someone in 10 minutes. He said you can quit any time. i never signed a contract but I gave him my credit card number. The call was from India. They quoted a completely different program price and I said never mind, I don' want your service. By the way, we paid the 29.95. So Trugreen came and applied chemical. We called and cancelled. They came again. My wife told them - please leave we quit. I had already treated my yard and thought I was done with trugreen. To ad insult to injury, I had treated my own grass so trugreen actually killed my lawn by applying product when we made it clear we our To top it off, we were ripped off by a scam artist andquit. We had our identity compromised (unrelated) so we were told to call the credit bureau to report it. We found out transcript with the bureau listed a negative from Tru Green ! Terrible and incredibly rude. I got a package for them to come 6 times a year and until a few days ago, they had only come 4 times, with barely a month left in the year and still 2 treatments left. Some random guy I'd never seen before (probably just someone standing in for my usual guy) rang the doorbell. I went to see who it was and saw him going back to the TruGreen truck. He said that he "didn't think anyone was home", and at THAT point he began to take out all his equipment and everything. In all the times I've stayed home while TruGreen did their thing, no one has EVER rang the doorbell prior to starting. They only ring it when they're done and leave the summary on my door. My conclusion? This guy wasn't even planning on giving a treatment if I hadn't chased him down out the door! I remember back when I first signed up that I only wanted 4 treatments a year but the insisted on 6, and yet here they are trying to skimp on the final 2 treatments. He finished in all of 5 minutes and gave me a bootleg-looking receipt which had another guy's name on it (my usual guy), with the wrong date, time, and totally inaccurate other information. Of course, this is some shady business so I called the office directly and the person who answered literally threw a fit. She was all, "Well, you got your treatment so what? Why are you complaining?" Why am I complaining? Because they're not sticking to their policy and the contract for the treatments (bi-monthly), and having inaccurate information on a receipt or summary of any sort is totally unethical (in terms of deception) and entirely shady in the event that I need to rely on that information later and they end up denying it. Their lawn and weed care service is generally okay. They have done a good job controlling the weeds. Unfortunately the seed and aeration service just didn't work out. Last year they came out in November, a little too late for watering the lawn. I had already put away the sprinkler and turned off the perimeter water. I asked them to come out earlier this year. Unfortunately, the aeration was performed very poorly. The tech pushed the machine at a fast pace turning it round and round in the yard and causing it to tear up the grass and leaving large clumps of dirt. I was watching from the window and couldn't believe how reckless his actions were. Another tech came out the next day to look at it. He said it was best to just leave the yard as is and let the dirt settle back into the ground when it rains. I agreed with that assessment, but I cancelled the aeration service. I will keep the weed control for another year and see how it goes. The tech came out yesterday and did the aeration service again. No charge. Had been a customer for about 1.5 year. Initially, I was pretty satisfied as they were keeping my new house's weed under control. But overtime, I notice my lawns health is not improving, especially when it has already gone through a year of fertilization, weed control, aeration and over-seeding. I noticed our front and backyard started to have more bare spots. Overall, the amount of healthy grass has gotten less. The nightmare starts about 2 months ago when TruGreen came and treated my lawn for weed. The chemical they used ended up killing a portion of my healthy tall fescue. I called their customer service and they issued a "rescue service" that's supposed to fix the problem. However, instead of fixing the problem they ended up applying ANOTHER round of weed control within 2 weeks of initial treatment! The rest of this story involves me calling TruGreen 5+ times about this. Every time, I would get a response about their service manager calling me back within 24-48 hours, but no one EVER called for resolution. Recently, I installed security cameras around our premises and I received an automated call from TruGreen about service. I thought, "Great, finally someone is coming to fix this". Turned out, they are out here to treat my lawn with weed control, AGAIN! For the 3rd time. What's worst? If you ever noticed your treatment detail mentioned they've used X amount of chemical to treat X amount of yard per sq feet on your (entire) lawn? Welp, my security cameras showed the technician drove by my front yard back/forth, take a guess, a total of 1 TIME and he didn't even bother to treat the backyard. In a way, I'm glad he didn't because my lawn is already having problems. But at the same time, I also realized I've been scammed for this type of poor service for the money they charged. After he left the company he got calls for months from customers he got to use the service because TruGreen has missed their appointment.
