I'm not sure what the negative reviews are talking about, I have yet to have a poor experience with Truly Sichuan. Since moving out of NYC and all the amazing food options we were accustomed to, I was happy to find this local gem that makes authentic, quality Sichuan food! I've commented to my hubby how this is the kind of food I'd expect to find in Flushing, Queens. They also offer dishes that we would eat regularly at our favorite Shanghainese restaurant in Flushing. The restaurant was always squeaky-clean on our visits and delivery is consistently reliable in time frame. The food quality is never compromised from delivery (something I can not tolerate with many restaurants). Simply the best in the area for authentic food! read more

Tried to give this place another try because my husband likes it. We ordered delivery and it took an hour. Again. I ordered the spicy pot which $20. It has a whole bunch of interesting things like lotus, chili's, mushrooms, tripe (big fan), beef, ham (actually spam which is a big difference), potatoes and other herby overpowering stuff. My biggest complain is that I would have probably enjoyed it but it was so salty that I couldn't eat it! How much salt did the chef put in there? In a word, I found the food at Truly Sichuan underwhelming. Craving Chinese food, I went here with a family member for dinner. The spring rolls we ordered as an appetizer were good/decent, but nothing to write home about. The wrapping was golden and crunchy, but the filling was somewhat bland and mushy. That, it turns out, was a sign of things to come. We both ordered chicken dishes for entrees; the Sichuan chicken for me and the cow fun chicken for my family member. To be fair, the chicken in both dishes was very tender. Sadly, that's where the compliments end. Both dishes lacked any flavor whatsoever. My family member even asked for soy sauce to add even a bit of taste to her dish. The Sichuan chicken was spicy (to be expected and what I hoped for), but not in a good way. It was nothing more than hot spice (and not even that hot) versus a rich, flavorful spice. As for service, that can also be summed up in a word: lackluster. I wouldn't go so far as to say this place is terrible, but there are, I'm sure, much better options if you're looking for tasty Chinese fare locally. read more

Went here recently with my family (party of four). Food used to be better with larger portion but it's somewhat subpar now especially with its price points. Also make sure to double check your bill as our waitress scammed us, tackling on a "service fee" for our party of four. I don't mind the automatic 20% on a party of 6+ but cmon this is not Miami. Called her out on it and she said it's mandatory for a party of 4? Sure, take it cause that's what I was going to tip you anyways but don't deceive your customers. read more

I ordered via Yelp/Delivery.com to the hotel I was staying in on business. Let's start with the $20 minimum for delivery. After figuring out 3 dishes to get to that amount, it took 70mins to arrive on a Monday night. I had to pay the $4 delivery charge and of course these apps ask you to provide a tip ahead of time. I kept the standard 15% which was another $4. When the driver arrived, literally the first words out of his mouth were, "there's a $4 delivery charge." I agreed with him and stated it was paid via the app. His next words were, "but you gave a cheap tip- only $4, and the restaurant is far away" A cheap tip!? Obviously every restaurant has delivery limitations but this anecdote isn't one of them as the app allowed me to place the order and set their own expectation of 45min delivery. It would have ended there if it weren't for the fact that the food itself arrived barely warm, not hot, and the dan dan noodles weren't pre-tossed before being placed in the container so they were petrified on arrival. Perhaps if I'd tried the restaurant, it would have been a different experience food-wise, but first impressions are everything and the people who deliver your food are an extension of you, so 0-2. read more

So this place used to be amazing but I'm pretty sure switched owners a bit ago! I was recently informed by the girl answering the phones there that their General Tso's chicken is pre-made so they don't make it fresh there! You wonder what else isn't freshly made but being charged at the same amount as freshly made food. They used to have the ability to make gluten free dumplings and chicken dishes but informed me because it's bought already pre-made they cannot substitute anything at this point. Not great! We went to Truly Sichuan after a reservation at a near by restaurant didn't work out. We did not read any reviews, and just popped in. We love Chinese food so figured we'd give it a shot. We couldn't have been more amazed by Renee, the owner and her authentic and delicious dishes. All of the food was homemade and fresh. No frozen dumplings here. Everything was insanely flavorful and not remotely greasy- which is a pet peeve of mine. The other staff members were all helpful and friendly as well. When Renee found out we were celebrating my husbands birthday, she had the the man playing piano play happy birthday for him. Very sweet. Added bonus is that they have amazing desserts that were unexpected. We had lava cake and tartufo! Both were the perfect end to our meal! We can't wait to go back!!!! read more

Excellent. I've been here twice now. This it be best Szechuan Chinese around. The food is fresher than at most Chinese restaurants around and while I haven't been to Chengdu, my impression is that this is more authentic than most places around. I thought the Szechuan lamb was fabulous as was the Ma Po Tofu (both of those are spicy which was what I wanted!!) and the soup dumplings are the best I have had. We had scallion pancake, soup dumplings & beef chow fun. The pancakes was light & thin. The soup dumplings was ok but the skin a little thick for my taste. The chow fun was not good. They had cabbage in it! Normally you get bean sprouts & other veggies in it! It was a filler to the dish. The chow fun noodles tasted rubbery. It's like they put it into the microwave & you have to eat it fast before it gets chewy! A real rice noodle is soft & tender. Too me this dish was not authentic at all. The twice cooked pork was phenomenal on portion, ingredient quality, and flavor. I would order two to go for a night of Netflix. The xiaolongbao or soup dumplings were solid. Do not eat here. The food here was terrible and very expensive - very poor combination. The prices are exorbitant at $25 a dish. Our dumplings came and there weee obviously frozen because the inside was icey. The orange chicken was very over sauced with overly thick sauce. We had a wonderful Chinese New Year dinner here. Im actually a bit sad we didn't even think to take any photos! It's located in a very cute and picturesque downtown area of Ridgewood. That area certainly looks very wealthy. Now on to the restaurant! We ordered a variety of dishes. Compared to other Szechuan restaurants, I would say the selection is a bit smaller. That's not exactly a bad thing because it gives them an opportunity to perfect the items on the menu which is the case here. Some Szechuan restaurants is all spice and oil which I also love, but at Truly Sichuan, they strike a wonderful balance between flavors, oil and spice without one overpowering the other. I would certainly recommend this restaurant for newcomers to Szechuan cuisine because it's not overly spicy. My only gripe was the $10 pot of tea that didn't even have enough leaves for one cup, let alone an entire pot. It just felt like I was drinking hot water the entire time. If I were to choose one stand out dish, that would be their smoked duck. That dish was truly fantastic and was told that it takes over 5 days to make it. A must order. read more

I really appreciate the restaurant labeling everything that is either vegan or vegetarian as well! My one piece of feedback is I wish the meals were more balanced. The tofu was JUST tofu. The food was authentic and exquisite - we enjoyed every. single. dish. Good portion sizes, too! What we ordered: - Eggplant (魚香茄子): One of our favorites. Not too sweet and not too salty. Loved that there were woodear mushrooms, too. - Beef Noodle Soup: Soup was unexpectedly rich. Meat was tender and the texture of the noodles was just right. If I could change anything, a little more bok choy would be nice. - Sichuan Boiled Fish (水煮魚): Wonderful flavor. Beansprouts and woodear mushrooms were a good touch. - Shredded Potato: I'm not usually a fan of this, but their rendition made me understand why people like this. - Sauteed Stringbeans: Good flavor, not too salty. - Double-cooked Pork: Plenty of meat. My personal preference is to have bean curd & cabbage in this dish, too. - 夫妻肺片 appetizer: cuts had good thickness Service was also very friendly and accommodating, which was the icing on the cake. Updated their menu on 2/22. They no longer have duck, dry hotpot and some other items. We came in on Sunday night and it there were about 50 people dining and 1 waitress attempting to serve all of them. Not her fault, I know, but why is management having 1 person serve the entire restaurant? Also updated in their menu was that there will be a 4% extra charge on your bill if you use a card to pay for your meal. We sat there ready to order for about 10-15 minutes and we were not even spoken to once or given water. The one waitress was picking up phone calls while tables were asking her for service. This place is really good, the owner is so nice too. We had the soup dumplings and the shrimp and veggies in brown sauce, my wife had the mung noodles since she is gluten free. I feel the food is healthier than most chinese places. The dark windows on the outside do not make the place look like some place you want to go in. The AC was not working when we first got in but it was about half way through the meal. I was interested in dessert but got too full on the yummies. Fantastic. Being Chinese, my husband and I were skeptical about this restaurant.... was it really going to be truly Chinese... let alone truly Sichuan. Well, we LOVED it. This restaurant has exceeded our expectations and has become my new favorite place. Although it's been opened for 7 months, I had only just heard about it yesterday. We decided to give it a try and I'm so glad we did. The owner herself is from the Sichuan and she is very friendly and eager to explain things and help you choose dishes to suit your taste. They use high quality fresh ingredients and the food is flavorful and authentic. Even the tea was noticeably different.... so fragrant and delicious. We had the Smoked Tea Duck which is the best duck I have had in ages (Reminded me of childhood), Ma Poa Tofu (wonderful Sichuan peppers and numbing spiciness for us), Chong Qing Spicy Dices chicken was perfectly crisp with the right amount of spiciness, steamed dumplings with Sichuan pepper sauce (I loved this sauce-- poured the extra on my rice), soup buns (my sons favorite) and believe it or not.... chocolate molten cake for dessert... strange? Well, who cares because we devoured it! Absolutely the best. If you eat here you need to understand this is not your typical Americanized Chinese food, this is the real deal. This type of cooking is what real Chinese people eat. It's not the greasy, saucey things you get at the local Chinese place. Come here to experience true Chinese cooking. This restaurant has elevated the bar... and I am actually willing to bring my non-Chinese friends here to eat. The only other place that you can go to for something similar is Flushing, NY.
