It used to be great but unfortunately the new owners are not interested in making their ice cream allergy friendly.

I was craving soft serve and this place definitely fulfilled my craving! Nothing better than ice cream on a cold winter day when you don't have to worry about anything melting so quickly. I came on a Saturday night and was so excited to try their soft serve with cotton candy blast, but unfortunately, they are no longer serving cotton candy :(, so instead, I got birthday cake blast. This soft serve is an upgrade of McDonald's and they packed so much the lid didn't even close properly. It's smooth, it's tasty, not too creamy, but has a perfect consistency. The birthday cake blast was good, a bit sweet, but not the same expectation I had since I wanted to try their cotton candy flavor. It looks like the blast flavor is mixed it well on the outside, but the flavor dissipates as you eat towards the middle. They were also out of their raspberry sorbet, so instead tried their lemon sorbet which was tart and tasted like Italian ice. I'll definitely be back one day to try out their other flavors of ice cream! read more

Update: Prices have DEFINITELY risen and portions have shrunk. One of the things folks have loved about Truly's over many years is how generous the portions always were (the previous owner even stated that fact in one of the articles about the place that used to hang on the wall in there). Now, you literally have to order a large to get what used to be a small - and pay a good percentage more for that amount. Owners, maybe a price hike should have come first and then, down the line, you could start shrinking the sizes, but both at once is bewildering. read more

Truly's is TRULY FANTASTIC!! Its ice cream is incredibly delicious! You are always greeted by a friendly, smiling server as you enter the store--often by the owner or one of his dedicated managers! Its soft serve yogurt has at least three daily flavors, plus a special Flavor of the Day. Its hard ice cream is rich and creamy with a wide variety of flavors and its hard yogurt is very tasty, too, yet is lower in calories! I really enjoyed my experience here. The ice cream was very good. The line was a bit long but the service was nice and the area was cheery.

The ice cream is the same as it's been but the portions are smaller and the vibe has completely changed since Gary sold the place. They are more of a JP-Licks now, and less of a family store. Very good ice cream! Definitely recommend trying it out! This place is probably in my top 5 for vanilla soft serve! I wanted to try the Cookie D Lite soft serve but they were all out which kind of sucked. However, when you check in for the first time you get free sprinkles with you purchase and I love sprinkles! A downside to this business is the smell outside of the shop. The shop is too small for people to eat inside so you are forced to eat outside or in your car. However, when you go outside, there is a rancid fish sauce smell that is super super strong and I'm pretty sure it's from the Thai restaurant next door. I had to walk down the street to eat my ice cream because the smell was so strong and I just couldn't enjoy my ice cream surrounded by it. Look no further. This is the ice cream, frozen yogurt, soft serve shop to go to! Cash or check only, but the variety of flavors is extensive for both ice cream and frozen yogurt. Each day has a different soft serve flavor like caramel latte or coffee oreo in addition to the regular soft serve flavors. Truly's is VERY generous with their portions - a small elsewhere is equivalent to (if not smaller than) a kiddie size here!! Kiddie only costs $3. My Son and I went yesterday..the new place is nice but wished they kept it the way it was originally. Now it looks like a coffee shop. I don't know if my taste buds are off but their soft serve frozen yogurt is pretty flavorless. I could barely taste the chocolate or vanilla..very watery! Their prices have gone up and their check out time is longer with those new credit card machines. We definitely miss the old Truly's and it was more flavor packed! Truly Yogurt is a wonderful ice cream place. It sells Robertson's ice cream which is possibly the most delicious commercially available ice cream of which I am aware. Their portions are huge, which gives a sense of generosity. The staff are extremely helpful and courteous - something which I cannot take for granted at similar establishments. Their chocolate fudge is rich and delicious. They add a large amount and as a chocolate connoisseur I very much appreciate it. The staff were quite patient with me as I had many questions because it was my first time. They have so many flavors including unusual soft serve flavors that they rotate each day. They are the only place I have ever seen that sells black raspberry swift serve. They have multiple version of some flavours with and without brownie bits for example. They unfortunately only accept cash. And beware of hitting your legs on a piece of painted wood next yo the high top chairs. The clientele was respectful and well behaved - again something I would not expect on a Saturday night. If you don't want to go to a mass market place and want a one of a kind experience that gives you a taste of the town, you will probably love Truly Yogurt. read more

I hate to badmouth a local shop, especially one I hold so near to my heart, but something must be said! Do not come here unless you are willing to risk your health! Ever since Gary left, things have been going downhill fast. Where do I even begin? I visited the shop for the first time this week since the COVID outbreak and it is clear that the new manager has no idea what is going on. The service was slower than it ever has been, and it seemed this woman knew less than the kids did. Then, this morning a friend of the family told me he tested positive for COVID after having visited the shop on opening day, and said that when he called and told the manager that he tested positive she did not reassure him in any regard that she would take extra precautions! She did not even express sympathy! I'm taking my grandkids elsewhere from now on. Although it's delicious ice cream, it's just not worth the risk! read more

Yeah, I don't get it. This place is all kinds of nothing special. I was craving FroYo so I typed the word "yogurt" in to my GPS and was directed to Truly Yogurt. "Yay!" I thought. It was sort of on my way. I'm sorry, but if you're going to put "Yogurt" in your name, you'd think your feature item would be, well, yogurt. Nope. So here I was craving vanilla soft serve FroYo with some sort of delightful fruit topping and I would up with Rasberry Chip hard scoop. I didn't know hard serve Frozen Yogurt existed! Yet it does..... I thought frozen yogurt was frozen yogurt, and there weren't different types. Also the cones, (as pictured in our of the pictures), are HUGE. I got a cup, but the person in front of me got a huge cone. I wonder how they do that......... must be difficult. This place has the BEST ice cream (hard and soft). Every day they have a "special" soft serve flavor daily (in addition to their typical vanilla/chocolate/twist), ranging from hazelnut to coffee to coconut to black raspberry. Their hard ice cream flavor are also yummy; personal favorites include black raspberry with chunks of fudge and chocolate chips, peppermint, cake batter, and strawberry. Employees are friendly (almost everyone appears to be a local high school student). There isn't a lot of seating inside, but there are more benches outside. Hours are GREAT, even in the winter. Employee (looking beyond my friend to someone else): "Oh my god Jen, you're here again...blah,blah,blah.." Friend (to me): "Is she even taking my order anymore?" Employee: "We're out of mocha chip." Friend (after a slight sigh and pause to reassess the flavors): "I'll take chocolate with chocolate sprinkles in a sugar cone" Employee reaches for a cup. Friend: "In a sugar cone." So, that aside, the prices were good even if the service was lacking. The flavors were limited, but a good balance within the choices they had. Yuummmmmmmmmy. I will admit that I've only ever ventured through the soft serves, but I have no problem with that since I'm a sucker for soft serve. I've never had anything there that I've been disappointed with and I can be annoyingly picky since the influx of froyo in my Boston life. I usually go with the flavor of the day (check the website) but I have done the old school chocolate/vanilla swirl as well. I believe a small runs you about 2.75 but it's HUGE. I like to relive childhood nostalgia when I'm here so I always order a small in a cone and try not to make a total mess of myself as we eat icecream on the swings. Nostalgia = success. It is a tradition to come here after a sushi dinner at Yama (yay, Yama, yay!!) and it's usually really packed because there are maybe 8 seats and many froyo-hungry patrons (even in October when it's snowing...or December when it's snowing...or in May when it's..still snowing). I always order the cookie de-lite soft serve with chocolate chips followed by a serious conversation with myself congratulating my most excellent choice...it's that good. Once they were cleaning up and ready to close and my friend (who's got smokin' lady humps) begged them to give us some froyo. The broom-in-hand, pimple-faced, metal-mouth teen willingly obliged. We all ordered the "kiddie" size and walked out of there with the kiddie cup OVERFLOWING with cookie de-lite, encrusted in more chocolate chips than diamonds/sparkly things on Snoop Dogg. I walked out face down and bent over my little styrofoam cup gushing over with frozen yogurt trying to frantically slurp up as much chocolate-y goodness. Second best part? It was $1.25. I stopped by here today and had the coffee and health bar yogurt. I usually think of yogurt as healthy but I'm guessing from the taste that this was far from the realm of healthy. Not that I'm a health freak and need my frozen treat to be healthy....I just expect "yogurt" to be guilt free and the name "Truly Yogurt" suggests that there will be a predominance of yogurt on the menu. There is actually more ice cream offered than yogurt! Despite the misleading name, the news is good because the yogurt tasted great and I suggest everyone give it a try (if you happen to be in Wellsley....don't go out of your way). I award Truly Yogurt a couragous 3 stars for tasting great but not offering the healthy stuff I feel a yogurt shop should.
