I always come here for acai it's honestly the best acai I have yet tried. It always so tasteful and can never go wrong! I really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately, after giving this place a try twice, it missed the mark on just about every level. First off, the customer service was beyond disappointing, especially the second time I visited which was on Sunday 6/29/25 at around 2:45pm. The guy making my bowl barely acknowledged me, acted like I was inconveniencing him by ordering/adding my toppings to my customizable bowl and made zero effort to be friendly or welcoming. No greeting, no smile-- just bad vibes all around. Then came the bowl that he made me...and wow, what a letdown. It was maybe 3/4 full at best. Açaí is not cheap, so when you're paying a premium bowl at $12-$14, you expect to get what you paid for. Instead, it felt like he was rationing ingredients (when it clearly states toppings are unlimited!) On top of that, the bases were so minimal it was almost comical -- the lightest layer of chia pudding you could barely see, same for the blue base,. For the toppings, a couple of strawberry and kiwi slices at best and a sad little sprinkle of everything else. When I was adding the toppings, I had to ask twice for a couple of things because he was just rushing through the stations as if he didn't want to add anything else. I think at one point he even rolled his eyes when I asked for a drizzle of agave which I even said "sorry" for because he made it so uncomfortable. Again at $12-1$14 bucks, that's not an açaí bowl, that's a sample they're trying reluctantly to give you. The first time I visited, I also got a customizable bowl and asked for bananas as the girl who was making my bowl was moving on to the next station of toppings, mind you, she had not started adding anything yet and she had the audacity to say to me "you have to let me know what fruit you want ahead of time" as if she was scolding me for asking for the 3 slices of bananas she proceeded to add. I told her it was fine and she didn't have to add them if I had broken the rules, and she just ignored me and added the bananas reluctantly. I was dumbfounded that this was the type of customer service I was receiving the first couple of weeks that they were open! Once again, I don't mind paying for quality, but I do expect decent service and a full bowl. Unfortunately, I got neither on both occasions. After having these two negative experiences with their staff, I won't be returning, and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone unless you enjoy overpaying for underwhelming portions and rude attitudes. Do yourself a favor and head to Pur Bowls a few miles away or even Jamba Juice. I truly hope the owner/manager takes this feedback and works on better training their staff to be kind and courteous and to give customers what they are paying for instead of rationing ingredients. If you read this review and see a defensive manager/owner respond...well, that tells you everything you need to know about this business and proves the point of my entire review. read more

Had TRU Bowl - Downey location for the first time today after eyeing this place up for a WHILE. All of their items look beautiful, the appeal and marketing are top tier. I finally decided to take the plunge and went with my husband. To say the least, we were totally disappointed with the quality of the product. In both of our items - "Buttah Lovah" ($17 for a LG) signature bowl and "High Tide" ($10 for M) smoothie it lacked flavor - completely. To describe the taste of the high tide it was like, watered down blended coconut water, with the essence of pineapple. Similar in review, the açaí bowl lacked flavor. If anything the toppings - peanut butter, granola, almonds, chocolate and blueberries were delicious but the main component was a let down. I'm not sure I'll ever give them a go again to see if it's an off day bc $30 for what we got is CRAZY & if I ever spent that much again just for me to get the same shieet again, I'd be HOT! Safest bet is save your money or go to the cafe at the end of the strip mall where you can find better quality items at a fraction of the cost. Gave it a 2 star bc the staff was nice. read more

It's a cute little spot and you really can't go wrong with an açai bowl. The food was good, but the customer service felt a bit mid. The girl who helped me seemed kind of nonchalant, and when l asked for a little extra peanut butter drizzle, I was told the boss doesn't allow it because they get upset-- which was disappointing. What made the experience worse was that I found a hair in my bowl shortly after. I'm hoping it was just a one-time slip, but it's definitely something that needs attention. read more

Mainly writing this review because of customer service. I work in the food industry and i know how difficult it can be but at least try...everything was half a**ed and they don't even acknowledge you or try suggesting things. They just stand there and stare at you like they were forced into that job. Anyway i got a spirulina lemonade or something and it was mostly ice, finished it in about 4 sips, it was fresh though, lemonade was good and more on the sour side cus it was made from actual lemons which i appreciated instead of it being artificial. I didn't try their acai bowls which i wanted to but felt like i was bothering them so i probably wont go back just because of the service and will find another place to try. I was excited to have a Tru Bowl located closer to my home, but unfortunately it's not as good as the tru bowl in whittier. The pitaya base tastes very artificial and has a gummy texture. I also wanted to add chia pudding as a side to my bowl, but I was told that I couldn't add any because I had already added their pitaya and cold oats (cold oats were a bit salty) Disappointed because I asked them to add it anyway and I'd pay the extra cost. The bowl was flavorless, and had a bad taste. This location really pales in comparison to the one in up town Whittier. I got the Açaí and Thai coconut, two thumbs down, and to top that off they have a crappy fruit selection, kiwis were sour, blueberries were smashed and the strawberries were old. The quality of these açaí bowls is so good! The fruit is always fresh. My favorite aspect is how *not too sweet* the bases are. They are perfectly so slightly sweetened. What a lag, if you're in a rush or in need for good service don't come. Been here 3 times to try to give it a chance. Clearly under staffed but mostly the order of operations is backwards. They take on way more orders then they have to while being under staffed, you have to wait to be called to do you custom order instead of attending first come first serve as you order it like an assembly line. Instead they take your order and do not have sufficient space to sit. The ingredients are good and fresh but I can't stand how the place operates. Should not be waiting 20 mins for a shake. This establishment should be in and out I would rather wait in line but know by the time I get to the front of the line I am being helped and served, everything is already prepped instead they are catching up on orders for all kinds of directions.
