I've been meaning to try Tsukimi since I moved to Austin as the reviews looked great as well as the sushi. That being said I kept putting it off, but being the big eater that I am when I saw they started a new all you can eat menu I had to try it out! I've been to all the AYCE sushi places in the area but this definitely takes first place for me. Extremely reasonable price for the quality of fish being served. Not only is the all you can eat menu very extensive with options, but they provide a paper menu when you sit down to mark off what you'd like to order. This makes ordering much easier to take your time and decide rather than trying to rattle off everything you had in mind when the server comes by. The fish tasted fresh and of great quality, and the sushi rice was perfect which was something I wasn't a fan of at a different AYCE place in the area. Everything I had was amazing. Even the salad! A fresh spring mix garden salad with what tasted like homemade dressing rather than a bowl of iceburg lettuce and a dressing that is most certainly from a bottle. The staff was attentive and a really great atmosphere. Not too dark and quite but also not too open and loud feeling like you're in a bar rather than a sushi restaurant as many places are. All in all I highly recommend trying this place out! They have a great regular menu but if you want AYCE sushi in Austin this is definitely the best place to go! read more

I give 5 stars for the quality of food! Very fresh sushi. The fish melts in your mouth. The place is still new and on the outside it doesn't look like much but the inside decor is very nice and tasteful. It is small though. I thought maybe a bit cold inside, another couple thought so too and asked to be moved. The waitress although there was a bit of difficulty understanding what I was trying to order or when I asked questions maybe because she didn't understand English very well, was very patient and sweet. I ordered the miso soup and my boyfriend ordered edamame for us to split ( really fresh). Miso soup was your typical miso but that's what I wanted. I got the Udon sushi which I didn't understand what I really ordered because the waitress when I asked what it was I thought told me something totally different and when it came I was like "oh ok". The Udon soup was ok, I'm not a fan of the noodles. Honestly the thing to get here is the sushi. Next time I'm here I'm gonna ask my boyfriend to split a sushi boat. Those things are HUGE!! So much food and so decked out with lights and everything. It's hilarious. If the quality of the sushi wasn't as good as it was I probably would give this place a 3 star review but seriously... high quality sushi. This is just what we needed in this plaza! It's really hard to find decent sushi close enough to where I live that's a good price and that also has good service. I'm more of a traditionalist when it comes to sushi just because I'm not trying to slather everything in spicy mayo like most restaurants do. The fish is as fresh as you can get for Texas sushi and the service is light hearted and fun! Our servers name was Joann which is probably her "American" name. She joked around with us and told us what she recommended. I didn't end up taking any pictures of our food since I was about 2 beers in and a bit tipsy since I'm a light weight. We started dinner off with some miso soup, gyoza, Idako, and some jalapeño poppers (this was not my idea I assure you). For my meal I had a salmon roll and a piece of uni (prettiest uni I've seen thus far in Austin), the uni was super fresh and also had some bits of salmon roe which enhanced the nigiri! Everything was courses out at a good pace and everyone at the table left happy. I'd go back since it's conveniently located next to the 24 hour fitness I go to, the bentos for lunch and happy hour menus have some really good deals on food and drinks! I have been wanting to check out Tsukimi for a while now and since I was in this area I came by for lunch. They have great lunch prices and offer sushi rolls with miso soup, bento boxes, etc. I opted to order the 2 rolls and soup lunch special. The soup was great. It's made with vegetable and fish broth. I ordered the Bonsai Roll and Crunch roll. Even before eating it, I knew I would love it. The presentation was great and it adds to the experience. The service was great and it wasn't busy around 11:30am when I went so that was a plus. I plan to go again and try out some more rolls! Oh and I ordered a roll to go for my husband - Tex-mex roll. Wow. I tried a piece and it was great. Spicy too. There was cilantro on top and jalapeño in the rol ----- Update: I ordered 2 rolls for delivery and the taste/presentation was the best I've ever received for sushi delivery. Everything was so fresh. One star. Let me start by explaining. The place looked ok, the issue was def the service. First off the waitress that took care of us (idk if it was the owner or manager??) was just some what at and rude. (I know sushi can have a strong order but this one was out their). Here is the kicker... as I was about mid way through I noticed something shiny in my food.... IT WAS WRAPPING PLASTIC THAT GOT STUCK IN MY FOOD!!!! Inside !!!!! I pulled it out and put it to the side and pushed my plate to the side. I'll start off by saying that this place doesn't have the best rolls I've ever had, but for the All You Can Eat lunch deal, I was more than happy with what I got. We went in a group of three and tackled 7 rolls, several appetizers/small bites, and dessert, which were all included in the set All You Can Eat price, just make sure you finish everything. My favorite rolls were the Parmer roll and the Tiger roll. The avocado bombs were nothing to rave about and we ended up forcing ourselves to finish them (you get charged for any uneaten food). It's very rare that I rate any restaurant 5 stars, much less a Japanese restaurant out in Austin. But this place really is that good. This is a Korean-run izakaya-style restaurant, so don't feel that you have to limit yourself to sushi. While the sushi here is indeed fantastic (especially compared to most of the competition) we ordered the Idako and the Stuffed Mushrooms on this trip, along with a selection of their rarer sake menu items. Just utterly fantastic. The stuffed mushrooms had a very slightly crunchy texture to match the meatiness of the mushroom, but was exploding with various flavors from sauce and garnishments. The idako, while a little odd to look at, were really tasty. They were both sweet and a little sour, with a chewy texture. Definitely an interesting menu item. Their sake selection is top notch here and I have not found a single Japanese joint in Austin that's comparable. While they have standards like Gekkeikan and Hakutsuru , additions such as Kinushiro and Suigei were fantastic and pair with seafood very well. They also have a house sake which is interesting. If you're looking for a new sushi joint there's no need to look any further because this is just the place! Honestly, I'm so amazed with this restaurant. From the most genuine, funny, and enthusiastic waitresses, the menu of items, sake on the house - I couldn't be more pleased with this experience. We ordered agedashi tofu, soft shell crab, a speciality roll (don't remember the name), salmon and tuna nigiri, and the special fresh fish they had that day which was otoro. Everything was just so good. I've never been a big fan of nigiri until I dined here. The fish I believe are infused with wasabi which I think adds a good kick to it. WOW! What a great night with friends and delicious food. Staff is courteous, timely, and very professional. The roll combinations and toppings are certainly not what I've experienced in any other sushi joint. Rock and Roll roll has creamy goat cheese and what a compliment to the shrimp tempura, asparagus and tuna! Out of Control roll has feta cheese. Highly recommend both. Saba sushi was great. Update: been back two more times and quality of ingredients has stayed consistently great. Chef Alex is awesome. This is still my favorite place to go in Austin for sushi because of my experience at the bar each time. No other place I go offers a better experience in terms of food and conversation. My wife and I stopped in tonight around 730-8pm on a spur of the moment and ate at the sushi bar. The staff was very friendly and the Omakase Nigiri and Cucumber Sunomono we tried were both great, as were some of the other things we tried (Miso, Maki, etc.). This place had a larger wine list than many places we've been, and of course plenty of Sake. The Tako Nigiri was fabulous, FYI, as was the (Sandfish or Monkfish?) Liver Pate Nigiri. We'll be back to check out the Tempura and Soba next, and there were some other nice bowls to try too. There is even a happy hour we'll have to investigate. One thing that stood out to me both times was the quality of the included salad. Often times at places that have lunch combos that include soup and salad, the salad is a paltry few pieces of iceberg lettuce with a couple carrot scrappings or bits of cabbage drowned in dressing. Here at Tsukimi the salad is a refreshing robust mix of leafy greens, a very good mark of the quality that eminates in all that this restaurant does. One lunch I had a bento box featuring cooked salmon, and the other lunch I had a sushi combo. I prefered the sushi combo. I fell in love with this hidden sushi gem ! Came here on Saturday night for dinner and got seated right away. We ordered two signature rolls and some Asahi beers. The Princess and Dragon roll were exceptional. Both flavor and presentation (see the attached picture). We saw some other dishes brought to people around us and everything looked delicious and beautiful. The service was so good I didn't want to use my Yelp discount on them, as I felt like they deserved the full price for this experience.
