    shrimp and veggie tempura
    Vi N.

Tsukiyo is a cozy little spot with a few booth tables, regular chair tables, and bar seating. Service was pretty good, and all of the staff were friendly. We came because we were intrigued by Tsukiyo: we thought, "How does a restaurant have such a near-perfect rating?" Turns out, they definitely deserve the 4.9 stars. The ratings below are averaged between me and my bf. Fried Oysters 8/10 Crispy, fresh, and delicious. The sweet n sour sauce was a tad too sweet though, but maybe I'm just sensitive to sugar. Shrimp and Veggie Tempura 8/10 It's kind of hard to do tempura badly. This dish was satisfying, but we preferred the other options. Salmon Aburi Roll 10/10 We got this from the server's recommendation because my bf doesn't like raw sushi. The salmon is seared and the sauce is creamy. It's perfectly balanced, so you don't need to dip it in any soy sauce or anything (my bf always dips sushi but he didn't this time). Great rec! Mentaiko Pasta 9/10 We got the mentaiko pasta, which was creamy and finished with fish roe and onions. Would recommend! We would definitely come back and tell others to come here!

Great ambiance, very friendly staff, and warm atmosphere. Located in a strip mall right off of the major artery that is Beach Blvd and next to California's largest H-Mart is Tsukiyo. The restaurant is known for its sushi (which I have had on multiple occasions), but its other items deserve love as well. The seafood tomato pasta is well spiced, extremely garlicky, and delicious. It has that sweetness thats evocative of asian tomato pastas which I've come to love. Ample seafood, decent cook on everything but I would say the sauce is the best component. I have to deduct points because there was a little bit of mussel shell that broke off into my pasta that detracted from my experience and there was a bit too much sauce which left me wanting for some type of carb to either mop it up or just less sauce in the dish. I also would have liked the noodles themselves to be a bit more toothsome, but that is just my personal preference. At its current price point it is an incredible pasta you can get for under twenty dollars and the portion is quite reasonable. The uni pasta comes with sooo much uni, its also perfectly creamy and unctuous and delish. I am such a fan. Better noodle texture than my seafood pasta, probably because there was less piping hot sauce to continue cooking it, and the flavors are very well balanced. The uni is fresh, the noodles are great, and the flavor is on point. I think this is one of the best dishes at Tsukiyo! Loved the fried squid legs, I do not see enough people talking about this item. It really deserves rave reviews, the portion is almost unreasonable (look how big it is) for just seven dollars!! The squid is cooked well, great texture, delicate fry that just shatters in your mouth. Salty savory goodness that leaves you wanting for more. Dishonorable mention: The classic tuna cut roll that isn't even pictured: bland tuna, mushy rice. Very affordable but I honestly recommend skipping this one. Overall I had a great meal and will be returning in the near future.

Excellent restaurant with amazing services. We walked in with no reservations. Put our name on the list and we had our table ready in about 15 min. Ambiance was cool and mellow with open sushi bar where you can see chef cutting some delicious sashimi. Food was really good and we very satisfied with what we order and what they recommended: We tried couple appetizers with two different rolls along with their famous cream pasta and everything was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend this place. Will be coming back to try other dishes.

We arrived at the restaurant at 6:50 PM and were informed that our wait would be approximately 45 minutes for 8 people. However, after an hour, we continued to observe empty tables and were surprised when other diners were seated despite us being in front of the waitlist. The staff could have easily reserved the table we were waiting for and waited for the next one to clear, but instead, they chose to seat someone who arrived after us, thereby extending our wait. The restaurant's staff had made poor planning decisions, so we had to step in and plan the table for them (us) so we can be seated faster. We ended up waiting way longer than expected.

As my family & I were searching for sushi spots, we came across this place noticing it has a 4.9/5 star rating with almost 900 reviews. Crazy stats so we had to check for ourselves!! Honestly we had no game plan since we were still a bit full from lunch, so we ordered whatever looked appealing. ORDER: - Edamame - love that this comes as a complimentary or free appetizer - Rainbow roll - sometimes simple is best! - Salmon crunch roll - was a lil skeptical at first due to the amt of onions but they really added to the texture & flavor - Death valley roll - lives up to its name with a triple kill of spicy tuna, jalapeños, and spicy mayo! yummy but had to pick off the jalapeños to fully enjoy - Chirashu don - our fave! idk what they put in their rice but the seasoning was sooo good & blended well with the fish, great for sharing, didn't love the fatty tuna pc AMBIANCE: - Small restaurant with limited seating. We got lucky to be seated immediately for a group of 4 on a Saturday night at 6 pm. - Interior & service reminds me of Japan! The workers & chefs constantly greet and thank customers. Surprisingly pretty slow at serving food, waited around 30 minutes... - Reasonable prices & diverse menu! Based on their popularity, I would've expected higher tbh While we wouldn't necessarily reorder the same dishes, we would come back for the chirashu don and to try other items! We'll see if it's worth a 5 star rating next time :-)

I went about an hour before closing, and they were super busy, but the service was quick, and staff were really nice! I got something on the house, I don't remember what it's called, but it was really good and very nice that they gave it to us, not sure if it's because we ordered 16 pieces of salmon Nigiri, and salmon sashimi and a serving of spicy tuna crispy rice without much other variety hahahaha the fish was one of the freshest I've had compared to many other sushi places, I definitely recommend this spot and would 100% come back!

We used to frequent this location under a previous owner/iteration, and were happy to see it hasn't lost what made it great. Service was very quick and attentive. The rolls were super fresh and flavorful, and nearly all arrived at the same time. The restaurant remains quaint and small, although that does mean a larger/rowdier party can interrupt an otherwise quiet space (something we experienced during a World Cup match). Regardless, it's great to have a local non-commercialized sushi bar when so many others have become chains.

I love sushi, but to my surprise, I think I actually love their pasta a little more! Mentaiko Cream Pasta: Delish! Rich, creamy, comforting, and super umami. Paired with delicately crispy bread slices that we used to scrape the plate clean. Chirashi Don: Great variety of fresh seafood over a generous portion of seasoned rice. Filling and could easily feed two people. Gump Roll: A solid choice for anyone who doesn't eat fish or isn't into raw seafood. Golden Eye Snapper (Kinmedai) sashimi: Always stoked to see this on a sushi menu! The seared skin creates a firm textural contrast to the delicate, sweet meat. Would prefer a yuzu garnish. Seafood Cream Nabe: Rich, creamy broth packed with seafood. Definitely on the heavier side - best shared with the table. Beyond the food, the service was great. The restaurant has a quaint, local feel that makes it perfect for a casual hangout or a low-key date night.

Super quaint local spot, with a huge menu that has something for everyone. From small apps, noodles, soup, to an extensive list of sushi (rolls, nigiri, and more) you can definitely find something on the menu to satisfy your craving. I got the king shrimp Nanban, eggplant katsu, and lunch sushi set for $24.99, which comes with 10 nigiri, 2 slices of maki roll, salad, and miso soup. Talk about value! The fish was fresh and tasty, I would recommend for a little lunch date if you want to treat yourself. The service is super attentive and thorough, checking in on us throughout the meal to see how we are doing and clear out our plates. If you're in Huntington Beach or just want a solid sushi spot, this is the place!

    Nigiri

I was looking for nigiri that didn't look like it was taken out of a container from the grocery store. This place served beautiful and delicious nigiri. They also had dishes that I almost never see outside of Japan like chicken nanban and Japanese style potato salad. The sake selection was impressive and not the usual ones you see. Service was excellent and knowledgeable. If I lived anywhere close, I'd be at Tsukiyo almost every week.

Have not been here since it was called Dai Sushi. Decided to come in and try it out on a date night on a Friday evening, no reservations. We got there and got seated at the last available booth. Score! No wait. We ordered cocktails to start then our entrees. It was a no brainer I got the tiger roll, as I look for unagi and salmon anywhere I go to see if I can get a roll with both in it. Topped with tobiko was a nice touch, it would've been nice if all pieces had tobiko but oh well. We also got complimentary edamame, which was good but overly salted to make you order more lol Bf ordered the salmon skin roll, which came out topper with fried onions. There was an asterisk next to each of our rolls and we didn't know why but didn't ask about. Turns out our rolls came out spicy so I think that's what the asterisks meant. Didn't matter a whole lot because the rolls were both very good. For cocktails I asked our server which drink is sweeter, the plum based one at the top or the lime one below it. She said just depends on what taste you're going for but she said the lime one is popular and refreshing, so I went with that. Both were good but I preferred my lime cocktail more. Will definitely look forward to coming back!

Came here for a weekday lunch and it was packed! Scallop Crudo (5/5); included ikura and the scallop is ceviche style. The flavor was very tropical and flavorful. The ikura gave an extra flavor that made it feel luxurious. Sushi set lunch (5/5): For only $25, this was a steal! Comes with 10 pieces of nigiri and 2 pieces of futomaki. The fish tasted fresh and flavorful. This was basically an omakase! Overall, this is a great place if you want affordable sushi and Japanese food

I was lucky enough to stumble across this gem of the center of OC when they first opened - and I am proud to be a regular here. I don't know how to go somewhere else - because I feel like the staff are giant gems in this jewel of a spot. Winters is a curator of boozy information that has helped me learn about "gin" and "root beer whiskey" so I can sound like an adult-ish purveyor, when really I know close to nothing except being a willing student to his creations. Dan the Man and Jacob always see me raise my hand in the corner of the bar, like the student I am, and have been willing to fill in the blanks for me when I know I am of thirst, but do not have the words for what to order. Every person working in the well has treated me with kindness - they have taken the time to get to know me, and I will be forever appreciative of how they have taken care of me over the years. But the real joy has been the transformation that this spot has for building a community of people in Santa Ana for real recognizing real. I have been bringing my Dad with me to play pool for the past few years. Sometimes people ask me if he plays professionally, I am terrible, and my skill incline is slow, he is patient and plays with the same level craftiness that the staff offer the cocktails. My Dad is always stoked when we have time to go have a few hours of games at 616 - especially now that there are regulars on 4th street that are excited to see that he is there playing - and they rush to write their names on the chalkboard to challenge him - or beat him in a game they really earned the W. On lazy Sundays, I watch couples sit with their drink, listening to Jazz, and watching my Dad whoop my ass while making amazing shots. I am forever grateful to Memo who sometimes takes a break from his shift behind the bar to give my dad an actual challenge - which allows me the chance to watch my Dad enjoy fellowship around the table. Knowing the table was a relic of the bars former self, and knowing the history that this spot has in Santa Ana is a reminder that so much around us can change - but it is those moments of the crack of the rack, the cheer of getting the combo shot, and the shake of hands when it's over that shows that it's not just about the pool table - but about the energy of a place that is welcoming and curated by people who care about what they do - and care about who comes through their doors. Thank you Jason and Mike B to bringing this to 4th St and supporting the community that was already here - and for building a community for the future. I love that there's a thrift store in the same plaza to keep me company when there is a wait though. It's a cute spot for a nice date but can also be a casual dinner with friends! Our server was so energetic and attentive the entire time. For our appetizer we started with the cheesy bread. Omfg I'm not even exaggerating, I inhale it EVERY SINGLE TIME. The cheese pull is incredible and the honey sauce drizzled all over adds such a nice accent to the truffle flavor! After my friend and I basically inhaled the entire thing, they brought out the crab roe pasta from their seasonal summer menu. The flavor was so creamy, crab-filled, and delicious!! Came to this spot for my wife's birthday dinner. I figured it should be pretty solid since it's owned by KEI (same company that owns Sup Noodle Bar). Overall, all the foods are pretty good, nothing stuck out as absolutely bad but I will say the pork tomahawk, seafood malfadine and mentaiko pizza were the most underwhelming, especially considering some of the hype behind some reviews. To be fair, I'm not a crazy seafood lover so take it with a grain of salt. My father in law loved the mentaiko pizza. The pork was cooked well and tender but the sweet potato puree just was not it for me. Good thing at least my kids liked it. Seafood malfadine was just honestly somewhat bland, especially when you have dishes like the spicy miso carbonara which was my favorite thing there by far. The burrata caprese appetizer was also a complete hit as everyone in my party loved it--my 5, 3, and 1 year old devoured it. Service is very attentive and they made sure to give a small chocolate birthday slice with candle as well to help us celebrate my wife so I appreciated that. There was this blueberry dessert we also ordered that was fire but I forgot to take a pic and don't remember the name Biggest con as to why it would not be a regular spot I would frequent is price-to-worth it ratio is not there for me. Our total for 6 adults, 2 toddlers, and 2 babies was over $500. Now granted we did order lemonade drinks and like 1 too many pastas (had gotten 3 seafood malfadine) but even if I conservatively subtract $100 that's still over $60/adult. So while the food is good, personally I would say it's not good enough at that price point. But nonetheless a good experience!

Came here on our way to Pacific Amphitheater, searched for small plates and Sonder came up…read more Walked in right around the opening time with no reservation on a weekday night. We were sat at a table to look over their Happy Hour & Dinner Menus. Ordered one of each of the skewers & the pate appetizer. Top plates were the pork belly & scallop skewers as well as the pate pastry with the side of mustard. The entire experience felt like the upscale neighborhood bar that has the vibe of great music to hand out and enjoy lovely bites

The decor is gorgeous and inviting - perfect if you're meeting friends or taking someone on a date. Cocktails are fire, order one. For their starters, I really like the bone marrow onigiri (2 for $20). This dish is constantly reincarnated so you never really know what you're gonna get. On my first visit, it included trout roe which is so decadently delicious paired with the marrow. The rice is proportionally small so each bite captures the decadence. The skewers are pricey, but if you order one, let it be the maitake mushrooms ($7). It's so meaty that you forget that it's not meat at all. Highly recommend. If you're sharing with a group or need some carbs, I recommend ordering the fried rice. I've had the prawn and pork versions and both are great. The fried rice is solid so any added protein is just a bonus. I've met some dishes I didn't love, but I really like that their menu is ever evolving. I'll definitely be back to try some of their specials.
