    Lunch Chirashi
    Doreen T.

We visited for lunch on a recent Sunday, and the restaurant was surprisingly quiet. We were seated right away. I ordered the chirashi bowl, while my husband chose the Okhotsk Don. The presentation of both bowls was beautiful and very aesthetically pleasing, but unfortunately, we felt the quality of the fish was below average. We also shared three hand rolls: negi toro, shrimp tempura, and blue crab. I liked that they included cucumber and avocado in the rolls, but the seaweed was soggy and overly chewy. As for the Okhotsk Don, the scallop-to-fish ratio felt off. It came with only one scallop, while the rest of the bowl was mostly filled with random pieces of fish and topped with an overwhelming amount of roe. The service was good overall, but we left a bit confused by all the glowing reviews regarding the food.

Lunch Chirashi Bowl- a combination of various sashimi over rice. Toro Don- salmon, tuna and other sashimi over rice. Everything was pretty fresh.

Friday Sushi Lunch at Koto Sushi Koto used to be our favorite sushi spot in OC, but this visit felt different. Tony's Ohtani Don was just okay, and the chirashi Camille and I had was disappointing. The restaurant was unusually empty for a Friday, and the familiar Japanese clientele was missing. The sushi chefs we remembered were gone too--replaced by new faces behind the bar. Something has changed here--maybe new ownership. After so many years, it felt a little sad.

Fresh sashimi and sushi?! Yes please! Went to the once a month AYCE buffet and they did not disappoint. The only thing, as others have mentioned, was that they did not replenish the pickled and side dishes. The buffet line is short and long but you will be full with delicious sushi for sure. They have scallop, tuna, hamachi, amaebi and salmon sushi along with some hand roll offerings. They also have shrimp and vegetable tempura, chicken karage, chicken yakitori, sushi rolls and other side offerings. The AYCE was $69 pp and worth it based on the quality and the taste of the food. The price also includes drinks. I will definitely go back for the AYCE but their lunch specials looked good as well from the menu.

Been coming here for years and it's still one of my favorite sushi spots. The quality is always fresh and consistent, whether dining in or taking it to go. I always order the Hakodate bowl, chef's choice sashimi over perfectly seasoned sushi rice. The fish is thick, buttery, and super satisfying, and the rice has just the right touch of sweetness. Service is always friendly and welcoming, and the cozy, relaxed ambiance makes it an easy place to sit back and enjoy your meal. Bowls range $30 to $50 and the Hakodate is totally worth it. Always a solid, comforting meal. Highly recommend.

The food was really good as per usual, however, I did find a big fish bone in my bone that I was not expecting. Luckily it was big enough for me to spot it before I ate it. Other than that I would say the quality of all the different types of fish and the fish roe were all really good! I really the like the variety of fish they have in their bowls!

I love the close knit service and ambiance in the restaurant. It just feels cozy. We dined here Friday night and there was bar and table seating available. We ordered negi toro and salmon skin handroll. The negi toro was straightforward flavors and it wasn't too fatty. But the salmon skin handroll can use some citrus and a better cut of skin for more flavor. The best nigiri item is the eel, it has sauce for flavor and perfectly tender. We also had a spider roll and that was decent too. I think a couple of the dishes would taste better if seasoned or salted a little bit more. Maybe their chirashi bowls are a better option to order.

Sushi Koto is a gem for fresh chirashi tucked away in Fountain Valley. My friend introduced me to this spot, and I'm actually surprised I never heard of it before then. I heard this place can be pretty busy, but I guess I must have been lucky because the two times I've been here, I had little to no wait. There's also a decent amount of seating, so they are capable of accommodating large parties, but I recommend calling and reserving ahead of time for that. FOOD: Gosh, it's hard to choose what to get off the menu. I did giggle a bit at the homage paid to beloved baseball players with their menu items, such as the "Ohtani Don." Okhotsk Don (5/5) - I got this because I love big Japanese scallops. This bowl was so delicious and filling, and I thought it was worth the price. The fish tasted super fresh and topped a hefty portion of imitation crab and vinegared rice. This meal also came with a bowl of miso soup and an interesting dessert. I am not sure of the dessert's official name, but it was a thin layer of mandarin jelly topped with red bean paste, whipped cream, and some fruit. It was not too sweet and inoffensive. No strong feelings about it. SERVICE: Service was standard and attentive. Overall, a welcoming atmosphere.

I first visited Sushi Koto a long time ago for their chirashi bowl. The experience was not bad back then, but since it's a bit far from where I live, I hadn't made the trip again for years. However, the restaurant has always stayed on my list, especially after I heard they started offering a Sunday AYCE Champagne Brunch. At first, the price seemed high (around $80 per person I think), but when I saw it was $59 per person recently, I decided to give it a try. Be sure to make a reservation through their website, due to the restaurant space is limited, and walkins for Sunday brunch are nearly impossible. When we arrived, we were seated promptly, and people were already lining up for food. The buffet is set up along the sushi bar area, and while it doesn't look overwhelming in size, the variety and quality are impressive. They offer a great selection of traditional Japanese hot and cold dishes, sushi rolls, and sashimi. One of the highlights is that they bring in whole fresh tuna and cut it right in the restaurant, I think it's on the same day in early morning. The tuna sushi and sashimi, including both maguro and toro, are incredibly fresh, tender, and melt in your mouth. Other seafood items like small ikura bowl, salmon sushi, yellowtail sushi, sweet shrimp sushi, blue crab hand roll, and scallop sushi are all so tasty, better than all the other buffet restaurants. You can also order sushi or hand rolls directly from the chef if you don't see your favorite items on the plates. Although I spent most of my appetite on raw fish items, I recommend saving some room for their Japanese cooked dishes. The flavors are authentic and reminded me of the breakfast buffets I had at hotels in Japan. The AYCE price also includes house champagne, cold sake, and bottled beer, which is a great bonus for those who enjoy drinks. The champagne was smooth and easy to drink, while the sake was on the dry side but still pleasant. Overall, if you love sushi and sashimi, this is a must try dining experience. The seafood quality is exceptional, the service is fast and attentive, everything was great and makes for a satisfying Sunday brunch.

Pretty good sushi place in Fountain valley. I think I have been here many years ago, but I came here recently and really enjoyed the experience. Sushi Koto is located inside a strip mall, it's small and cozy. I would say it's not the fanciest, but if you're looking for something casual, this place is perfect. I opted for the lunch chirashi, which was about $22. I thought it was a really good deal. There was plenty of fish, which was really fresh, in the bowl. I also really enjoyed the few surprises I found in the rice, like bamboo and asparagus. Definitely thought it was worth it. I didn't get to try anything else because I was pretty stuffed by the time I was done, but next time I would like to try a few more things. They also had pretty good set menus. I will definitely try Sushi Koto next time I am in the area for a casual dining experience.

Ohtani Don with wasabi shaped "baseball", a radish "bat "and a cute little shaped "home plate"
    Christy V.

We've been wanting to come to this restaurant for a while now. We were in the area and decided to stop by for a quick lunch. They weren't too busy since they were wrapping up their lunch hours. The staff was very friendly and even offered us to try their lemon ponzu sauce for free. It was delicious. We got the Ohtani Don and Yamamoto Uni Don. Both were surprisingly filling and the quality of the ingredients were fresh and top notch. Loved the little details in the Ohtani Don with the wasabi shaped "baseball", a radish "bat "and a cute little shaped "home plate". Both bowls came with miso soup for lunch. The Ohtani don came with a dessert in the end. Pretty sure they use real wasabi here as it didn't have that artificial kick/punch you get with the tube wasabi. We also got their spider crab roll and it was great! Definitely will be coming back soon due to their amazing quality and the friendly service. Definitely a no frills, mom and pop restaurant vibes. Loved everything about our visit here!

Very generous ikura portions and good quality fish. Fantastic food, kind staff, and easy parking!

    Gloria A.

Their fish was very fresh, and you can really taste the quality in every bite. The sushi was nicely prepared with good balance -- not too much rice, and the cuts of fish were generous. The menu has a good variety of bowls and traditional options, so there's something for everyone. Service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere felt clean and comfortable, perfect for a casual dinner without being too crowded or hectic. Overall, this is a solid sushi spot in Fountain Valley if you're looking for fresh fish, good portions, and reasonable prices. Definitely coming back again!

    Oh yes!

Do you offer Sunday Brunch now?

[Missing noodles, expensive ramen, bad customer service, and no reason to come back.]…read more I visited this restaurant to place a to-go order and picked up my food during a late lunch around 1:40 p.m. I ordered two items, including a bowl of tonkotsu ramen. When I got back to work in Santa Ana and opened my bag around 2:30 p.m., my ramen had NO NOODLES. It was literally just broth and toppings. I called the restaurant expecting a simple apology and a reasonable solution. Instead, the manager would not even speak to me directly and chose to communicate through a waiter the entire time, which made the situation even more frustrating. We went back and forth multiple times with the waiter acting as the middleman. First, they told me I could come back and pick up the missing noodles. That was not realistic. I was already back at work, and it takes me about 25 minutes to get from Fountain Valley to Santa Ana. Driving all the way back for a side of noodles made no sense. So I asked for what seemed like the easiest and most reasonable solution: a complimentary bowl of ramen on my next visit. Instead, I was told no, but they could give me "extra noodles" next time. Extra noodles next time? What exactly was that supposed to do for me when I was sitting there hungry with no actual ramen to eat that day? Then the manager, again through the waiter, said she would personally drive noodles to my job. I even told them that did not make sense because by the time she got there, it would be around 4:30 p.m. At that point, my lunch break would be long over, the ramen would be cold, and all of it would be a waste of my time, her time, restaurant resources, and gas. But I agreed, because at that point it was obvious they really did not want to simply offer me a free bowl of ramen on my next visit. And to be clear, I was not asking for some huge free meal. I was asking to be compensated for the ramen I already paid good money for and did not even receive correctly. For how expensive ramen is, that should not have been a difficult ask. About 10 minutes later, the waiter called back and said the manager would give me a free bowl of ramen next time I came in, which was the exact solution I had suggested from the start. I can only assume she realized how far the drive was and how unnecessary and impractical that solution would have been. Mistakes happen. Forgetting the noodles was one thing. But the way this was handled was unnecessarily difficult, inconvenient, and honestly kind of absurd. I did not ask for a refund. I was looking for an apology and some common-sense customer service. Instead, I got a lot of back-and-forth and a manager who would not even speak to me directly. Kudos to the waiter for doing their best to mediate the situation. Even they thought the situation could of been handled differently by the manager. Very disappointing experience. I will not be returning, and I would not recommend this place to others based on how this situation was handled.

Bao and Cal Shabu for the win, man. This is my new go-to for Shabu. Heard about this place, made…read morethe drive out from Echo Park... Worth every mile and cent. From the quality of the food to the taste to the service to the parking. All of it is A+. Bao and the young-lady that was on shift that day were all class and made the experience well worth it. We went with the King Kong order of the prime. Everything was super fresh and delicious. The sauces mixed takes everything to a 5 star rating for me. We will for sure be making the drive out here again. Thanks, Bao!!!

We stopped in here because we were going to a different place that we thought was closed and Shabu…read moresounded good and healthy enough. We found out this place is family owned for almost 30 years and one of the original in the area. The gentleman was very nice. Service was 100% excellent. We ordered two of the ribeye plates and had a dish of vegetable vegetables with some noodles on the side as part of our meal. This is a traditional Japanese style Shabu and if you want a different broth as an upgrade for it. The vegetable you get is what you get without refills and everything is all the cart. This place, reminds me a little bit of mojikiko Shabu except they actually give you unlimited vegetables. The meal I had was good. The service was excellent and the place is clean with individual table top seating. I'm not sure if I'll be back because the food is not really in line with what my boyfriend likes, but for me, it was good.
