Me and a couple of friends came to celebrate and we did not get our moneys worth the food was dry and basically got the left overs of the food not only that it got much worse so I asked "hey are y'all going to have anymore chow mein " our server said no we're not and guess what the cooks came out with a fresh tray of chow mein oh no it got even worse after I got up to go get it they kept throwing the checks everywhere to me and my friends after that they were hovering over my food like how rude and it was on 0810 they close at 9 it used to be my favorite and I have brought so many people to this buffet but now I will never come back here literally disgusting and the service was horrible. read more

My husband I come here every so often because they have fairly good sushi and it's pretty cheap. After today, I will never go there again. I was getting sushi and saw a cockroach walking along the metal part where the put the ice. I don't know what to do at that point, so I just get food that's not from sushi area. I go back later to see if it's still there, and it's stuck on its back in the ice right next to a tray of sushi. I decide go get my phone to take a picture of it so I can demand a refund and have proof. But then, we're sitting at our table and the sushi chef, I kid you not, takes the tongs people use to pick up sushi, picks up the ice and cockroach, dumps it, and PUTS THE TONGS BACK FOR PEOPLE TO USE. All the employees were looking at us and acting nervous, and we got a check that had the price whited out and a lower price written on it. Ok, I get it. It's eastern Carolina and there are cockroaches everywhere. I'll forgive one out of the many times we've eaten here. But to witness the chef use the tongs to throw it away and put them right back for patrons to use? You bet I'm notifying the health inspector about this. Completely unacceptable. read more

Not sure what folks really expect, I agree that it could be better...but it's also not that bad. I visit this place about once a month in the Spring/Summer season and enjoy it. For the area, it's a great place to take a LARGE group that could be picky about what they eat. For the healthier eaters, the Hibachi grill is perfect. If Asian flare isn't on your mind, there's plenty of options for more American fare. Desserts are all over the place and they even have individual ice cream cups. Their sushi is pretty decent, sure I've had better...but I've also paid a lot more for it. read more

Walked in and as soon as we realized what we were in-store for, we bailed. The place was muggy, staff seemed uninformative and distracted. There was no "table service" and it was pretty much a buffet. After seeing all these horrible reviews, I am so glad me and my date both agreed this place was NOT for us. Tsunami has succeeded in one regard: combining all the worst elements of various psuedo-Asian food stylings into one building that I can cleanly avoid. The "chinese" buffet is lacking and dismal, the sushi is "edible" at best, and the Hibachi grill is a hit or miss situation where the cook likely has no idea what you're saying and mixes your plate selection up with everyone elses. Put a lot of rice and meat on your plate, because you might end up unlucky and get dealt a much smaller portion because the chef didn't remember that you had more on your plate... et cetera. It's generally mediocre on the whole. The eatery succeeds, however, in pointing out the real decline of amazing Chinese food in the Carteret county area. read more

I made my way through the various dishes on offer, sampling such as Korean chicken, salt & pepper squid, sushi and delicious green beans done in garlic & soy But the best part was the hibachi grill...were you choose your own raw ingredients and the chef cooks it to your own preference I chose spicy..made to perfection! We stop here every time we pass through town. They have sushi, hibachi, and the standard fried foods on their buffet. I agree that none of it is particularly excellent. The hibachi is hit or miss. Sometimes they overcook the meat and mix up the orders. Other times they are perfect. You will definitely find better sushi at a more expensive restaurants. However, Tsunamis offer a wide variety and it is freshly rolled. The staff is family oriented and always helps accommodate our infant. We enjoy the buffet and think the food is very good, especially for the price! read more

Tsunami Buffet may be suffering from multiple personality disorder. It thinks it's a Chinese Buffet, Sushi Bar, Japanese Steakhouse, and Mongolian Grill. Don't let the full parking lot fool you - Tsunami doesn't do any of it particularly well. The Chinese Buffet has the all too typical offering of over-sauced bits of deep-fried chicken, pork or beef mixed with soggy overcooked vegetables. The usual suspects are all here: sweet and sour pork, general tso chicken, beef and broccoli, coagulated hot and sour and egg drop soups that have been sitting out too long. The sushi is pedestrian at best. The quality is about the same as you will find in your local grocery store. The night my fiancee and I went, they had tuna and salmon nigiri, and some underwhelming spicy tuna and california rolls. The hibachi/mongolian grill looked promising, and I was really looking forward to it. They had raw beef, chicken, shrimp and squid available when we were there. A very limited selection of vegetables were offered as well for you to add to your custom combination, along with lo mein noodles and rice. I was disappointed to learn that they did not allow customers to add preminced garlic, cooking wine or other options to add flavor to the raw ingredients before they cooked it for you. This resulted in a uninspired, flavorless dish. I cannot say that I am looking forward to ever visiting Tsunami again. There are places in town that do each of the things Tsunami attempts to combine, much better. One thing this restaurant has going for it is the low price of the buffet. You can walk after eating all the above (and more - there's a salad bar and also a fruit bar) with a drink and tip (a cheap tip) for $10. Isn't as bad as all the reviews say. It's your typical Asian buffet fare, with better quality during higher turnover eating times (weekends and dinner), otherwise the food just sits out and cooks itself to mush. One perk, Paleo/Primal Friendly if you stick to the grill. They even cook with REAL BUTTER. More Mongolian grill then "through whatever vegetables and meats we have on hand at the time". Bottom line: I don't feel bad about what I eat here if I stick to the grill. Still have the opportunity to overeat, but you went to an all-you-can-eat buffet (so shut it). read more

We were a little tired of eating super expensive meals on vacation that didn't fill us up. I came to this restaurant last year and took the family back this year. They have a full buffet of the standard food. They also have a sushi station and a man that does hibachi grilling for you. You can pick your food to be cooked and hand it to him to be cooked. I think we spent as much on the whole family here as we did for one meal at the other places. For a buffet, you'd never get a better deal for decent food and selection that Tsunami. read more

The selections were large indeed. One of the few buffets in the area besides Golden Corral and the Mongolian Beef is delicious. Here's the issue: the staff. They are extremely unfriendly and unpleasant. I witnessed (and experienced) the Hibachi cooks screaming at customers. The wait staff in unattentive to say the least. It took at least five minutes to get two sodas. My guest and I got a good laugh out of the entire evening here and listening to other patrons say they were "disturbed and scared" of the Hibachi cooks and their aggressive attitudes, it is safe to say never again will I be back. read more

I agree...the sanitation of this place is pretty disgusting but I'll admit...the ONLY time I sacrifice sanitation for food is when I eat at Chinese buffets...and this is the buffet that started it all for me. They have everything your standard Chinese buffet would have. All you can eat sushi, noodles, fried rice, and the two best things: SHRIMP SAUCE & ICE CREAM...although not together of course. My little brother and I have a tradition where whenever we go home, we fast for a whole day, then go stuff our faces at tsunami. This is not a hibachi grill. Don't expect it to be. This place actually surprised me. I was actually heading elsewhere but ended up in this shopping center and figured, give it a try. The buffet is big and plentiful with all the items you'd expect and more, but there is also a Mongolian grill which I wasn't expecting and tons of sushi and nigiri options. As buffet go it's not bad. Lots of choices and most of the food was hot. They had salmon but it was like warm.. wasn't to sure about it. The selection of sushi was very good. My two boys liked the mongolian grill. My only complaint about the grill is it was small and we had to wait a bit to get our food cooked. But it was good. Price 11.99 each.. the place was clean and the food was kept freshly rotated. There's so much food no one would leave hungry. I would go again. read more

Below average, run-of-the-mill buffet. I mean, I've had worse, but I wouldn't really constitute that as a compliment. Everything up at the bar was old and room temperature. Someone decided 7:30pm was a good time to mop the entire floor, leaving it quite slippery. My drink was never refilled. The egg drop soup smelled fishy. Yep, Tsunami is cheap and that is why it is full. It certanily isn't very good. Still, you have to consider your options. IF you want asian food (and Tsunami is a mix (fusion being too big city) of a variety of flavors) AND you are in the area, where to go? Well, a buffet can be nice - you are in and out quickly and everyone will get something that they can eat and the price is cheap. I mean, seriously, what do you expect from a buffet? (The one exception is Indian, which generally offers good buffets. I wish others would do the same, but they are the exception, not the standard.) In my opinion, if you going to a buffet in the first place, and it ends up better than Golden Coral, well, then you succeeded. You're at a buffet - don't expect anything else. read more

My wife and I went because of the shops around it and to be honest it wasn't that bad at all...we took a look at the food first and then decided to eat there, the food was actually good. We love going to tsunami for the variety types of food. We love the hibachi grill. However, I am reluctant of returning to the establishment because during our visit there last week. We saw a cockroach crawling from the crack of the booth onto our table. And as we left the restaurant, we saw their sanitation grade was only 90. Despite the love for the food and low food price, I don't think we will return to the place until they get their sanitation grade up. read more
