My Wife and I have been visiting Tsunami (Downtown & Highland Locations) for years. When this place is at its best, it's great. We typically start with an order of the Gyoza, both preparations are very good. The Eggplant Miso is also very good but very rich. I only suggest ordering this if you have at one or two people to split it with. Just recently we started our meal with the Baked Salmon. While flavorful we were a bit disappointed. It was 80% snow crab mix and not very much salmon at all. We have tried at least 12 different rolls. The cooked and raw varieties are always great and the fish seems to be fresh. As far as drinks go the Haiku is one of their signature cocktails and is typically very good. Just recently, 6-27-2026, we had our first underwhelming experience at the location on Highland. It was the first bad experience in a decade or longer, so I won't hold it against them, most restaurants have an off night. The sushi was mostly rice, the fish was a tad off and the service was not the best. My rating will reflect how most of our experiences have been, which is really good. The most recent experience will not count unless it becomes a pattern. read more

Wow! I was completely blown away at everything! I was not expecting for this Tsumani to be as beautiful as the one in downtown Baton Rouge because the one downtown has that amazing view of the Mississippi River bridge, but this Tsumani was equally as beautiful. I like how it is tucked away and not noticeable. It is in a huge modern business building on the bottom floor. There is a sign when you get closer to the entrance, but you do have to know it is there to see it. I went for a Friday happy hour. Right when I walked it, I was instantly impressed. It was very clean and sleek with a mixture of bar seating and window seating. There isn't a ton of space, but it has enough tables. The decor was perfect...I loved the pieces hanging down from the wall. You also get wet hand towels when you are seated at your table, I've never had this before and I loved it! I felt so fancy. For our happy hour, I got the pear apple martini for $6. It was the best martini I've ever had. It is a pretty green color with a cherry at the bottom. This is my new favorite drink! To eat, we got edname and French fries. I don't like edname so I just ate the frie. These are so beyond spicy!! They are good, but make sure you have a glass of water near by. I went alone to enjoy happy hour specials. I was so glad to learn this location was open on a Monday. I was off due to the holiday. I started with $5 Hot sake and immediately put in my happy hour go to favorites. Truffle salmon, Smoked Salt Escolar, & Yuzu Albacore Tuna. I decided to add a miso soup. I called in my order close to closing time and the staff was kind and very professional over the phone. This was the night before Thanksgiving and my little one kept asking for sushi and he's very picky and his verbal communication is limited. So when he asked I was amazed and was like immediately yes! The downtown location was the first place I had eaten sushi from and I'm not at the point where I'm brave enough to eat raw sushi so I really appreciate that there are a lot of cooked options to select from. When I went to pick up my order the hostess was really nice and my order was ready. The inside is pretty and really nice at night. I'll definitely be back to dine inside. Only difference from this location than the other is the noticeable better service, view abs FRIED RICE is on the menu. This locations was absolutely wonderful to visit before the dinner rush. It helped that my date was charming! If you're on a date ask to sit in the back room to really make the evening elevated. I love hearing the kitchen, seeing the colorful dishes coming to tables and the bartending show that came with our experience. You may be missing the skyline and bridge view but this is nothing compared to downtown. read more

For a restaurant that opened just a few weeks ago, I'm very impressed! I haven't been to other Tsunami locations, but this place is gorgeous inside with a few tables outside on the patio. Having a sushi place in this location where there are many take-out/fast food options along Bluebonnet really adds to the mix of options if you're not in the mood for something overly heavy. Everything we ordered was great! The Haiku is a great twist on a margarita that is well-balanced and not very sweet (more on the sour side, which I prefer). The Gyoza Umami is a great appetizer; the pork dumplings are tender and very light, not greasy at all, which can happen. The funny thing about the sushi rolls we ordered was that our amazing waiter (Logan) accidentally brought us another table's rolls...so that was remedied by ALSO making sure we received our original order. We were left with a LOT of sushi to eat between two people...most of which we did! If you're into trying new things, the Munchies roll is like a twist on a Philly roll as it's dusted with Doritos crumbs. Weird, yes, but also very tasty! This is a great place to check out for an upscale feel with fair prices! I did overhear that their take-out system isn't up and running yet, but it sounds like that is coming soon! Honestly can't even tell you what rolls we got, however they were mediocre. The eggplant miso got a bit too soggy and sweet which was disappointing as I love eggplant. Very cool look and feel, and the location is fantastic! Finally, a nice full service restaurant in the Highland/Bluebonnet area- and an old favorite, to boot. The crab salad was the best in town, the sushi (Green Monster Roll & Black and Gold Roll) matched the high expectations set at the famous downtown location, and the cocktails were delicious. Tsunami is my favorite restaurant and has been for a while but the location that I used to frequent is off of Lafayette Street in Down Town Baton Rouge. I have gone to the new location off of Smart Wy a few times and gave it a while to see if they would improve but it just isn't doing it for me. The seasoning and flavor hasn't matched the downtown location and the proportion size has been so disappointing. I paid $18 for 6 small bites of sushi when I can pay the same price and get quality sushi from a restaurant close by and in larger portions with additional protein. It's just disappointing because the new venue is really beautiful but I want them to succeed. I want to give at least 3 stars but the portion size almost feels like a scam read more

Came here for a quick sushi lunch. We purchased one appetizer and two rolls and the bill with the tip was about $100. Bring your checkbook. Lol as far as sushi goes, the rules were compared to other ones I have eaten far less expensive places. I think you're paying more for the atmosphere and the name. Sushi wasn't terrible but it's not something I would have to make another trip to come back for. The ambience of the restaurant is very nice and our waitress was extremely nice. I think it's necessary to hold companies accountable for all of their business/services. While I have generally had decent experiences at Tsunami, their New Year buffet which cost me over $100 per person felt like a total ripoff. I think for the cost it was pretty reasonable to expect some semblance of comfort and quality of food. With it being a cold evening, they were completely unprepared. No heaters, no level of service whatsoever. Paying $70 extra for the food (regular rooftop ticket was like $30) while having to sit outside in the freezing cold eating stale sushi, while watching people indoors who paid for normal priced rolls sitting indoors in comfort was a complete slap in the face as a patron. The sushi was clearly made well ahead of time as it was dried out, so again had to watch other people pay less and eat BETTER food in the HEATED restaurant. Based on the ticket price, it was reasonable to think the restaurant was going to be closed and it be a private event for the evening. Completely unacceptable for what the tickets cost. Never again would I attend this event, and it has actually tarnished my image of Tsunami in general. read more

Excited to have a tsunami near me. Went for date night. It is beautiful inside and feels just as intimate as the other location. Love the open kitchen. Took over 10 minutes for the server to greet us. Ordered an appetizer as she got there and took about 20 minutes for that to come out. Tried the shrimp and shishito. Was good but needed to have more salt on the tempura batter. Ordered two rolls and the sunflower that took another 20 minutes to come out but tasted great. It was busy but they have some kinks to work out for sure. Will be back in a couple of months once they have a good groove. read more

I have never felt the need to complain about a meal. However, the fish here was by far the worst I have ever had. I couldn't finish a plate of the food. I ordered and tried 9+ options on the menu. The fish had a very strong smell to it and was beyond dry. My martini had a nearly rotten strawberry on it aswell. Would absolutely never recommend anyone coming here. If you see this review absolutely do not come here. On the bright side server was very very nice! The presentation looked great, but food was just god awful. I am honestly not the kind of person who normally writes bad reviews on restaurants as I am someone who has worked in the service industry for about six years. But unfortunately, my experience at tsunami on Highland deserves my first bad yelp review. My boyfriend and I decided to go on a date to tsunami as he has just moved to Baton Rouge and had never tried the sushi before. Our reservation was for 730 and we arrived about 10 minutes early. The host told us that the table was not ready, which was understandable because we were a couple minutes early so we sat down and waited. 8 o'clock rolled around and we still have not been sat. I sent my boyfriend up to ask how long until the table will be ready because the restaurant was nearly empty so I was very confused how we had still not been sat. Once he went up and asked the host promptly seated us. it was obvious that they had forgotten about us. Once we sat down, we ordered drinks and appetizers. We ordered edamame and the paper salad as appetizers. My drink came out in about 5 to 10 minutes, but the appetizers took 35 minutes to come out??? Honestly insane, considering the fact that we were only one of four tables left in the restaurant. The server never came to take our regular sushi order until after the appetizers had came out. So we had already been seated at the table for approximately 45 minutes BEFORE Our main entrée order got taken. Once we placed the entrée orders, I decided to order another drink, which took another 20 minutes to come out, even though there were no tickets at the bar and nobody else ordering in the restaurant. We then waited about another 25 minutes for our food to come and by this time we were one of only two tables left in the restaurant. At this point, we were both extremely frustrated so I asked for our food to be boxed up. When we asked for that, our server told us that he would be right out with it because the food is ready. Then another 20 minutes goes by and it's still no food. Finally, our server brings us our boxed up food as well as the check and told us that he gave us one complementary drink for the slow service. One complementary drink??? We had been there for 2 hours and we're not even able to enjoy our meal at the restaurant and that's all they offered? I hate to leave a bad review on a restaurant, but honestly, the surface was horrible and the lack of communication was even worse. There was no one in the restaurant and I could see the staff behind the sushi bar chitchatting the whole time so there's no reason that they should've taken that long and had that poor of an experience when the pill was still over $160. I was always a fan of tsunami downtown and had always wanted to take my boyfriend there but now that we had such a poor experience here he doesn't even want to go to the downtown location. Atmosphere is amazing and really wanted this place to Win for BR. However we have tried 3 times and couldn't finish the meal. It's just not good. Twice my daughter has gotten the crunchy roll and the "crunchies" have been like soggy bread. The edamame has zero salt and were dry. I couldn't eat my other rolls. I was their biggest fan but they have to make a change or it will never survive :/ read more
